CEO Of Top Dawg Entertainment Responds To Ab-Soul Threatening To Leak Album

(AllHipHop News) Top Dawg Entertainment has marketed themselves as a close knit group, grassroots-centric Hip Hop collective. However, today (May 2nd) proved to test that with TDE’s CEO responding to Ab-Soul’s threats of leaking his major label debut album.

Yesterday (May 1st), Ab-Soul released a message on his personal Twitter account stating that he may leak his debut album. Earlier today (May 2nd), TDE’s CEO Dangeroo Kipawaa went to his own personal Twitter account to squash the possibility of an album leak from Soul from happening:

Out of the last four projects released from Top Dawg Entertainment in the last year and a half (good kid, mAAd city, Cilvia Demo, Oxymoron, Z) Ab Soul is the only TDE artist to not be featured on any of those projects.

punked hjm quickly. if the album leaks, soul will be jumped on probably and sued

    • jacksjus

What you just said made the response from the CEO more surprising. Now if something does happen to Ab this Twitter post will be his legal crutch.

      • LaurynHernandex

    • Greg Gorham

      • YouKnowNothing

USUALLY, in journalism, you refer to someone by their REAL NAME and not a Twitter handle. Holy SH*T. KILL ME NOW. Atleast refer to him as Top Dawg. Christ…

      • Greg Gorham

Oh, I didn’t even notice that!! Read it too fast – good catch!

damn homie got smash at a gas station ..lol

    • Celz

Bubba Sparx beat the Sonic Rings out that nicca!

  • ghettogov

How was ab soul not on any of those projects though? This kinda smells like a publicity stunt but truthfully they should have dropped soul Shit before schoolboy. That dude had no buzz and his sales decline reflected that. I think soul has a shot at a gold plaque if they let him just be himself so his beef is legit. Niggas know how quick that window of opportunity closes

    • Myleage

Q had way more buzz (tours, singles with Asap and Macklemore and Mac Miller) than soul. Q is the next one up after Kendrick just like Ferg was after Rocky. they did it right.

      • ghettogov

But Q can’t even go gold…shit yg album probably brought in more bread than his and his team is way weaker Soul is considered one of the best by most of his fans schoolboy q fans wouldn’t say that…my point being he has probably peaked already…he won’t drop again for awhile..

      • Judah Nazayar

q was popping all that shet, thats y

      • Django 2Chainz

I dont think Q has peaked yet….I do think they’ve done a poor job of promoting his album single wise…But I heard Q say he didnt wanna put no radio songs on the album & the label forced him to & thats why it took so long to come out & I can respect that.

      • Myleage

i think Q can def go gold. way before yg

      • INNOCENT LIL NIGGA

Completely agree. Q was creeping into the mainstream at the time of his album release, Ab Soul is still a considerable distance from it.

    • Greg Gorham

Soul has even less buzz. My guess is he struggles with making singles as well. Maybe he can talk Top into letting him release something on iTunes in the hopes of building a buzz.

      • Django 2Chainz

Ab Could make Singles I just dont think he wanna or should do what the radio say is hot…He still argubly the best in TDE

      • INNOCENT LIL NIGGA

I feel like many of his songs on LT2 had a mainstream vibe to them (drift away, livin like, turn me up) so I wouldn’t say he’s entirely reluctant to create them. shit…..best he not be if he wants to grow to the extent that Kendrick has.

      • Django 2Chainz

Yeeaaa I Feel ya, LTM had some radio type hits on it too like Moscato, & Picture That…I just think Ab Soul subject matter(The Government,Conspiracy theories) I dont think Mainstream America ready for that

      • ghettogov

He can sell records though because nerds love him and those are the people who buy eminems album, Kendrick too. If they want a single all they have to do is get Kendrick on there and it will have a good chance of going gold. He won’t need a big budget. I just think it’s his subject matter really but a shift is coming whether the majors like it or not.

      • Greg Gorham

He can definitely sell, and I’m definitely buying it when it drops. I just think Top is trying to get the timing right. You don’t want your debut major label LP to flop.

      • Arrie Mental Woodard

more than nerds love him…. i hate when people act like you gotta have a law degree to listen to certain shit. gangbangers love soul shit too. he from carson and carson aint no clouch of a city. people with intelligence arent nerds man. you know how many street dudes have diplomas and some that have a degree… there are lots of them.

      • ghettogov

Why so defensive? I didn’t mean nerds in a derogatory way…I consider myself to be a nerd actually even though I used to live that trap life…nothing wrong with being a nerd. Soul is a nerd so of course mostly nerds relate…but not all his fans are like you said

      • Arrie Mental Woodard

not really defensive its just that a lot of street are super inteligent but made bad choices. they can decipher Soulo’s rhymes with the best of us. and no nothing is wrong with being a nerd at all. its not like back in the day nerds. im pushing my son to be a nerd. get the money first then everything else will fall in line!

Idk why ninja don’t stay indie….

    • Arrie Mental Woodard

TDE was indie…. they are signed to TDE…. TDE signed with a major… Ab had no choice since he is signed as an artist to tde

      • Tx_Vandal187

        No shit well damn…

      • Arrie Mental Woodard

i read an article where schoolboy q said he wish they would not have signed with a major, especially when it came to picking singles

they couldnt clear the sample for it

  • Eric Cartman

Ab is probably the best rapper in the game besides Blu

  • The_Good_Life

The label will soon fail. Publicly threatening your artist who has been as patient as possible in a bad situation. Ceo’s realy trying to be Suge…

    • i get that; but it is a slap in the face to the label to say eff how y’all do business iIm gonna do whatever i want, especially when they have had nothing but success doing it they’re way all this time…artist gotta understand that its about timing.

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

was schoolboy q timing lol ijs now had his project been @least half as successfull as kendrick then you might be saying something but it isnt … so whats the hold up with letting q drop his music … this is where labels fail @ sometimes with thsi whole timing thing …. thing is with timing … you can never predict the perfect time … ALL YOU CAN DO IS PREPARE FOR IT …!!!!!!! and setting ish back isnt preparing thats them trying to PREDICT ….FORECAST …. etc… just drop the project we are in another era … it aint like ab is on some dr dre jaye ish …. he will follow up … and thats what will prepare and build the artist … dont runaway from your original formula …….. q’s last project prob got the suits scared over there lol or either just leaning real hard on kendrick right now to bring another bag of $$$$$$ in …

      • anemia716

your point would be a little more coherent if you actually know how to form a sentence, or grammar.

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

lol thanks i guess lol its the comment section on the net tho lol no time for proof reading and correcting just shooting the sh*t and k.i.m … 🙂 …..

      • can’t say that it wasn’t, Q had as big as a buzz as he was gonna get when they dropped his album, i think Q is gonna be like Redman where people knows that he’s dope but he has a core following and isn’t expected to do massive numbers…still doesn’t justify saying i’m gonna leak my album as if the label ain’t doing nothing with you at all, they were just talking about doing the Black Hippies album like last week.

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

tru but you never know whats going on behind the scenes man … alot of stuff happens day to day that we just dont see that starts to hurt these relatinoships … sadily with twitter and other social networks its looks like its helping these issues rise to the public alot faster ….

      • i agree…TDE winning right now though…personally i wouldn’t wanna be the one going against the grain right now if i’m on the TDE roster.

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

tru but i say learn from the past dont end up like the rocafella artist … speak up now …. dont wait till its too late ….

      • Yeah But They can also end up like ex g unit artist young buck, where you really can’t put nothing out because you went against the boss lol

      • ItGoesDownINtheDM

young buck was on drugs and put the label in debt due to his addiction problems … different story … if the prob is real … especially something that deals with the BUSINESS … imo deal with it NOW …. or get treated like a hoe the rest of ya career ……

  • Bryan Strive Bradley

wanna hear some original hiphop, google my name “whoisstrive”

I think the problem is TDE think they are bigger than they really are. I’m a fan of all Black Hippy Members, together and individually, but they were a great underground Label. Kendrick raised the bar, but it was kind of a gift and a curse. It showed with Schoolboy numbers. His numbers were pretty normal, but when compared to Kendrick it was a “flop”. Half Oxymoron was good in my opinion, you could tell when Q got to express his art vs someone picking watered down songs. how the f, do you water down SBQ!! That being said, Soul will do worse than Q. Soul is the lyrist and the conscious mc, and these days those artist are overlooked. Only hip hop, and Soul fans will cop.
