Richard Sherman: Donald Sterling Would Not Have Been Banned For Life If He Was In The NFL

(AllHipHop News) Yesterday (May 7th), Richard Sherman signed a four year contract extension with the Seattle Seahawks for $57 million with $40 million guaranteed.

During a recent interview with TIME magazine, the verbose Seahawks cornerback stated that the racist comments from Los Angeles Clippers’ owner Donald Sterling did not surprise him. According to Sherman, the racist comments about his post-game interview after the 2014 NFC Championship game helped him understand that “that America still had some progress to make. “

Sherman also stated that given the NFL’s acceptance of a team with name Redskins (derogatory term for Native Americans), he did not believe Sterling would be banned for life if he was an owner in the NFL:

No I don’t. Because we have an NFL team called the Redskins. I don’t think the NFL really is as concerned as they show. The NFL is more of a bottom line league. If it doesn’t affect their bottom line, they’re not as concerned.

I think the NBA is 10+yrs ahead of the NFL when it comes to race relations. At least 50% of the coaches are African American which is closer in line with the make up of the league. Less than 12% of NFL coaches are non-white, while the league is 2/3rds black. The pressure to reprimand Sterling was drawn mostly by the general public, which is why Silver responded so quickly to not tarnish the brand image. The plantation mentality seems to be more prevalent in the NFL, perhaps due to the fact that most of the league is comprised of kids from the South. The NBA also holds on to the youngest demo at 50% of viewers are 35yrs old or less, who are more likely to take up a cause with the likes of Sterling.

Never. It’s a real billionaire boys club and the colored, and I mean any color, besides the color of Caucasian is not allowed to have a team even if he had a trillion dollars.

LOL bruh its all the same. Don’t fool yourself. They know young black men watch more of basketball than they do NFL. Everything marketed by the NBA always has a “hip hop, we are down with the brown” feel to it. Because they know us niggas watch basketball more.

Calling them the Washington Redskins and having an Indian head as the logo, is the equivalent of let’s say a New York team having a logo of a black man and calling the team the New York Darkies.
