P. Diddy Explains How He Discovered His Father's Real Cause of Death During Howard University Commencement Speech(VIDEO)

(AllHipHop News) P. Diddy is a self-made man multimillionaire whom dropped out of Howard University in 1990 to intern for Andre Harrell at Motown. This past Saturday (May 10th), Diddy gave an emotionally stirring speech that included the first time he ever revealed how his father was murdered.

Diddy’s father, Melvin Combs was shot and killed at the age of 33 while sitting in his car. At the time, Diddy was only three years old and apparently his mother had informed him that his father had died due to a car accident. Once Diddy arrived at Howard University in the late 80s, he dug deeper to discover the truth:

I don’t talk about this often. I was raised by a single mother in Harlem. My dad Mr. Melvin Combs died when I was three years old. My mother lways told me he died in a car accident. Something about that just didn’t feel right. Something was in my soul that was telling me otherwise. So, as soon as a I got [to Howard University] I went to the library and did some reseach. I used the microfilm at Founders to search through all the newspapers. When I type in my father’s name and the day he died I read in The Amsterdam News that he had been murdered in a drug deal gone bad.

Mary J Blige, French Montana and many other celebrities attended the event:

who cares your father was a rat and so is his bastard son. may he rot in his grave. 2pac and Biggie Killer

    • Twonpass

      whole other argument

  • ZUBU

No Hate on Puff, but WTF is this dude doing being the keynote speaker at a university graduation? IMO it does not do much to add to the way HBCU’s are deemed as inferior schools when compared to many white schools. Select a tenured academic member, or maybe a promising young research assistant.

    • W.E.B. Du Bois

deemed inferior? – by who? – there’s nothing inferior about that college, they have all the nessscary facilities needed to teach their courses – your trained by the whites to degrade yourself , while they quietly respect – I can have a degree from there and do , go, anywhere any other graduate can – not like you

      • ZUBU

Brotha unless you are from another country you know HBCU’s are deemed inferior by the masses!
As far as what education I have brotha I have the best of both worlds. I never said the black schools are inferior, in fact most of my family members have attended HBCU’s and several of them have gone on to complete their graduate work at white schools and they were well prepared by the profs at the HBCU’s.

    • chippc

Bruh some school had Snookie from Jersey Shore speak at their college. Puffy is at least inspirational to a degree.

      • ZUBU

        Snookie… SMH….. Exactly……..

      • W.E.B. Du Bois

you try’na talk about 2 things you know Nothing about — rich people and education

      • ZUBU

Well son, I will put my degree and my academic record against anything you bring to the table. In the process of becoming well educated I have learned quite a bit about the elites.
But you are certainly entitled to your opinion. Once again it is a clown move on the part of Howard to select this dude as the commencement speaker. Any serious student or staff would be a little insulted by his presence.

      • Twonpass

like you and grammar, please , take a second to regroup
lets keep the conversation intelligent, grammar included.

      • W.E.B. Du Bois

you ain’t nobody respectable to type correctly too – you thinking you are – Proves your stupid

      • ranfan

        they booed snookie though lmao.

    • RichFromBX

and I race bait??? you up in here talking about black colleges being inferior to white schools when it lends absolutely nothing to the conversation.

like it or not Puff is beyond successful and has built revenue streams throughs multiple sources. As a successful businessman and graduate he’s a fine selection to give this speech.

      • Twonpass

problem is he never graduated. If he went back to finish that argument would hold more merit.
Not downplaying his accomplishments, i am merely stating that he is the key note speaker at a graduation, something he never experienced., basically sounds like his money allowed him to be put in this scenrio ,
        not his merit.

      • ZUBU

Thank you brotha that is essentially my point, he did not graduate. How can you tell the students about something you did not complete. Graduation day is not about money its about hard work studying your tail off and not quitting.
Give me Kool Moe Dee, Young MC, etc. brothas who all completed their degrees. A college degree is such an accomplishment that generally no amount of money in the world can buy it, you earn it!

      • ZUBU

Puff did not graduate from the university, did you read the article?

    • IceBergSlim

No matter how you slice it..It is hate. Hater

      • ZUBU

Hater??? LOL brotha you sound like a middle school girl calling me names because my opinion differs from your’s… SMH…..

    • scullyson

  • tra mo

I remember one interview frank Lucas said Melvin was just as rich as him r.i.p Harlem og

  • Executive

  • TheAkademik

French got a suit on. Lol

  • Sgt. H. Jennings

Bill Gates (Microsoft), Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook), Paul Allen (Microsoft), Larry Ellison, (Oracle), Steve Jobs (Apple), Michael Dell (Dell), David Geffen, Geffen Records, Co-Founder of Dreamworks). Each and every last one of them dropped out of college. They’ve given commencement speeches for years at several Colleges/Univ many of them being Ivy League status and no one has anything to say about them. Diddy is afforded the opportunity to inspire young minds in a similar fashion and it’s a foul on the play. He’s a business man with a brilliant mind that deserves to be acknowledged. He’s worked hard to get to where he is today and deserves this calling from Howard Univ. You don’t have to get a degree to be considered smart, intelligent or innovative. All the guys I just mentioned has made that very clear. Not knocking education because it is power but you don’t always have to sit in a classroom to be educated. That’s a “dumb” thought.. Proud of Diddy. Very inspriring..

  • Bryan Strive Bradley

im proud of diddy, take that!!!
