Fake Watches

Anonymous Instagram User Calls Out Rappers Wearing Fake Watches

(AllHipHop News) In the entertainment business, image is everything. That may explain why some rappers feel the need to present themselves with lavish items even if those products may not be the real thing.

One Instagram user has taken on the mission of calling out those rap stars that show up in public with inauthentic time pieces on their wrist. Noisey caught up with the anonymous creator of the FakeWatchBusta profile.

After first exposing non-celebrities with fake watches on Instagram, the European who goes by “The Horological Batman” started pointing out celebrities that attempted to pass off knock-offs as real. THB talked about busting Carmelo Anthony and receiving threats of legal action against him.

“I get a cease and desist letter almost once a week. Instagram shut down my first account after I busted Carmelo Anthony with a fake Audemars Piguet and a fake Panerai,” said the self-described “watch geek”. “He is clean now but there was a lot of drama with his sponsors after I exposed his replicas.”

FakeWatchBusta got back up on the site and started targeting rappers.

“On the new account I have busted a lot of people, everyone from Rick Ross to Soulja Boy and Sean Kingston,” he said. “I just busted Jadakiss and he responded that he didn’t buy no watch from that guy. But I found a video that I posted proving him to deal with him and he even had the fake watch on his wrist. It’s all on the account.”

When asked if he felt the rappers are being conned or if they knew the watches are fake, THB states he thinks some jewelers do take advantage of the performers, but he adds, in his opinion, many of them are only concerned about the jewels in the piece not the watch itself.

“I think it’s more jewelery than watches for most of them,” said THB. “I mean Soulja Boy’s watch is a bad Audemars Piguet quartz fake and the battery has run out so it shows the same time in all his pictures. It’s 10:25 all day, every day. It’s pretty funny.”

Besides calling out the rappers faking with false watches, The Horological Batman also gives props to Meek Mill, 50 Cent, Eminem, and Jay Z for sporting the real deals.

that’s what rich people do – they’re expected to have nice things but it’s absurd to spend that type of money on jewelry and what not. They look the part and still got that money in the bank.

Like athletes, the majority of rappers have short shelf life so why spend money like that. Chad Johnson during the height of his career admitted he wore fake shit because it was stupid to spend money on the real thing.

Not just rappers but all the so-called stars have been doing this for years. Hence the term “Costume Jewelry.” stars also are loaned dresses, suits, jewelry, etc. by designers.

Many entertainers, not just rappers wear replica jewelry. Allot of times it’s for insurance purposes. With allot of high price items, it’s a requirement that insurance companies have in place for expensive pieces. Not saying that’s the case for all these guys. But I know from my personal experience, it sometimes is a requirement to have replicas made for “High priced items” to be eligible for insurance.

Beautiful comments on here talking about the value of things, and what it really means regarding accessories like, “jewelry”. Most of these “celebrities” should have a firm grasp of this system, and how things are exploited, manipulated, defined, etc, and hence should be able to “circumnavigate” the BS, by doing some exploiting, manipulating, and defining of their own. If it’s all about perception, who cares if it’s “forged” sometimes, that is of course assuming one understands the true value of money, not to mention the mind, and how image can be used to control it. I’m a little disappointed at Jada for going to such lengths to prove the accusations otherwise, and would have rather seen him use the system(if he didn’t already), as I see him as a boss now. Hope this individual puts in the same work “exposing” other celebs doing the exact same thing, which actually started before, and outside the Hip-Hop genre, and is nothing new to the entertainment industry.

50 said years ago that allot of these dudes are wearing fake jewels. That’s why, if you guys remember, the Unit use to walk around with diamond testers to check different rappers jewels. This isn’t noting new, he been said Rick Ross, Fat Joe,Plies & few others had fake jewelry.

Hey,do you! As long as your happy with your purchase, I ain’t got no problem with you.

My guess is that a lot of millionaire celebs wear fake watches because people will usually give them the benefit of the doubt and they’ll save hundreds of thousands of dollars. If Carmelo Anthony walks around wearing a fake Rolex that looks real to 99% of people, then that’s good enough. Most people will assume its real because he’s rich — it has to be real. It’s easier for a millionaire to get away with wearing a fake high end watch than some kid off the street.

    • Phibes

      So true, perception is reality!
