(AllHipHop News) Hip Hop veteran Keith Murray is preparing to face-off in a rap battle against Onyx’s Fredro Starr at an upcoming MC World event, but the Def Squad member recently spoke about real life battles he has had with Prodigy, Dame Dash, and Tupac Shakur.
Murray was a guest on Power 105’s The Breakfast Club. During the interview, he was asked about past physical altercations with other members of the Hip Hop community. He talked about fighting Mobb Deep’s Prodigy outside The Tunnel nightclub over lyrics he felt were directed at him.
“I seen them one day, and Havoc said, ‘Nah, we ain’t talking about you. We can go up to Hot 97 and clear it up.’ I said, ‘Nah, it’s cool,’ but then Prodigy is the one that kept talking, talking,” said Murray. “So when I seen him at The Tunnel… We went outside. They happened to be outside. Then he was like, ‘Yeah, it’s time. It’s time.’ I was like, ‘Time? Time?’ They started crossing the street, so I’m thinking it’s time to get busy. So ‘bang,’ ‘pow,’ ‘pow,’ ‘boom.’ He hit the ground, jumped up, started running. I’m chasing him. Then my cousins and them beat his mans and them up.”
The two New York rappers later spoke and were able to move past the incident. But that was not the only time Murray had a confrontation that started at a club. He also got into a fight with Roc-A-Fella’s Dame Dash at another location.
Murray was performing at Sweetwaters, and the DJ at the location kept messing up. Keith told the crowd to yell, “F**k the DJ.” The DJ happened to be connected to Dame.
“I didn’t know Dame Dash was in the house. I didn’t know he was associated with the DJ. I’m walking through, and somebody punches me in the eye – plow! I don’t know who did it. Come out to find out me and 50 Grand was in there. 50 Grand hits [Dame] in the eye with a bottle,” explained Murray. “Then I hear [Dame] goes to Jive [Records], demanding 10 gs for the stitches in his eye.”
Murray said the problems with Dame eventually “fizzled out,” thanks it part to the Erick Serman and Jay Z’s close relationship. He then spoke on meeting 2pac at The House of Blues. At first, it was all peace between the two, but someone in Pac’s crew confronted Murray over the song “I Shot Ya.”
“I was like, ‘I just seen 2Pac. He didn’t say anything to me.’ Rest in peace to 2Pac. I love and respect 2Pac to death,” said Murray. “[2Pac] walked up like, ‘I just wanted to know, because I got shot five times in New York, so I thought n***as was talking about me.’ – It was, ‘I Shot You’. I was like, ‘Nah, I Love you Pac.”
2Pac and Murray were able to settle the situation before it got physical.
