Philly Legend Cool C Gets Execution Date

(AllHipHop News) Philly rap legend Cool C has received a date for his execution.

The 44-year-old rapper has been on death row for the murder of a Philadelphia police officer on January 2, 1996. C along with another legendary rapper Steady B, and another local rapper, Mark Canty, attempted a bank robbery that left Lauretha Vaird dead. Vaird represented the first Black female officer killed in the line of duty.

Cool C’s date of execution is January 8th, AllHipHop has confirmed. Gov. Corbett signed the execution warrant on Friday.

The rapper, real name Christopher Roney, has always maintained his innocence in the case.

He had a hit record in the 80’s called “The Glamorous Life.”

This is what happens when rappers are really bout that shit they rap about…

    • makuwalkbowlegg .

Or rappers who rap about that “GLAMOROUS”life really not living it and resort too stuff like this.

      • They lived it & but through resorting to this kind of stuff, not record sales.

      • makuwalkbowlegg .

Dude it came and went soon as it touch their hands,no way they was living the life and still trying to rob banks

      • They were trying to maintain that life after it went!

    • Ryan Cole

Cool C and Steady B never rapped about that hard shit, though. At least not the songs I’ve heard by them.

      • King Kredible

Hilltop Hustlers were real gangsters but their songs weren’t. Back then the game was still only to be sold not told.

      • poppie

        True that

      • The Notorious GUNS

Well, the name of their litle crew was called Hilltop Hustlers…and later CEB (Countin’ Endless Bank).

In West Philadelphia born and raised,I was there. Philly legends, the original beard crew(hilltop hustlers)from philly. I dont condone any of this but if you lived in Westphilly in the 80’s early 90’s you’ll know why they went down that path. Westphilly quiet as kept is the epicenter for black culture. We had the first black astronaut, first bomb dropped on american soil(Move),first athlete to score 100 points(wilt b ball)kobe lived very close, will smith(the biggest entertainer, brought hiphop in americas living room),Schooly d(first gangster hiphop record(ice t ask him for career advice),Jazzy jeff(taught the world how to really scratch),cornbread(first graffiti artist),Lex street massacre(13 shot 8 dead in crack house),Teddy pendergrass, patti labelle, herman wrice(started hard hat neighborhood drug watch) the list goes on(and thats just west philly)!!!! West philly is no longer the same but the culture lives on, it was a rough place to be but thats what made you strong and love harder. God bless the officer and her family and also coolc steady, mark in Jesus name

    • Side note : Philly native Grand Wizard Rasheen taught Jazzy Jeff & Dj Cash money how to scratch!

      • drac215

No doubt bro you got it, like I said I was there. Just naming the familiar. Got waaay more in store if need be.

      • No doubt!

        Rasheen do his thing!

He’s rolling with my man Mikey D now!
        “Elements Of Hip Hop?”

Either way, no one is touching Rasheen on the wheels of steel.

        Philly definitely got that one!

    • Downin469

1st bomb dropped on American soil wasn’t on MOVE it was dropped on the “Black Wall Street” in Tulsa, OK.

      • scullyson

Yessir and it also inspired the Gap band to put out that track “You drop the Bomb On Me “.

      • Downin469

Oh and by the way, although a good actor and rapper Will Smith wasn’t the first to bring hip hop mainstream it was there long before he was on the scene

      • scullyson

Right…And dont forget Skoolly D was doing his thing too. Although Ice-T was doing that gangsters rap well before skoolly….D Ice T started rapping in 82 and skoolly started in 84.

      • drac215

        Americas living rooms every week?

      • Greenwood St, Archer St, Pine St = GAP = BWS

      • drac215

My bad bro and thanks for the info!!!

    • Downin469

Drac everything you said I agree with except the two I commented in. Keep in mind Rapper Delight was mainstream late 70’s. I remember the bombs dropped on MOVE. Sad deal. Black Wall Street is little known slaughter of blacks in Tulsa because…stop me if you’ve heard this one…a black male alleged raping a white which turned out to be a lie but thousands of blacks in Tulsa lost their lives white marauding the black section killing and looting.

      • drac215

Thanks for the info(black wall street), thats deep. God bless

  • Markus

I saw his video on an old school rap show a few months back. I heard of him and Steady B but never really cared for their music. Apparently no one else cared for them either since they went out the way they did. Damn shame that woman lost her life and good riddance to these disgraces to the culture.

  • J Burn

Ooooh ooooh you got it, the glamorous life!

  • Jason Mazur

The Glamorous Life is a classic.I still remember call and response with my homies going down the hall in high school.

    • It’s not double fat….it’s TRIPLE FAT!

So sad…live by the sword…die by the sword #oohoohtheglamoriouslife

  • InTheNightKitchen

All of the above crazy. Damn to sit in jail, knowing you’re gonna die one day, then to get the news years later that you’re date has been scheduled. Heavy!

    • So was killing that sister!

      • InTheNightKitchen

That’s what “all of the above crazy” meant.

      • Yeah, they bugged out, did what they had to do after setting a chain of events in motion.

    • Dark Matters

We all know we’re going to die someday.

      • InTheNightKitchen

I was not aware of that.

      • Dark Matters

I produced a couple of his records and toured on a few dates with him and Cool C was the nicest guy I have ever worked with. I remember when people would ask him to sign their shirts, he would always ask them if they were sure he wanted to ruin their clothes with his signature.

I personally have a hard time believing this guy robbed a bank and killed a police officer unless he was talked into it by Steady B. I also did some production and dealt with Steady B on tour and I never really liked Steady B. He seemed like an egotistical asshole. If Cool C really did it, he was persuaded hard by Steady B.

It’s a shame because Cool C was a really nice guy and I just really cannot believe he actually shot and killed someone. I hope the evidence is super strong and there is no doubt he did it because I would hate to see an innocent guy killed. To this day I still cannot believe he did it.

    • EL_BARK

      my man he did it.

that wssnt the first time they hit a bank just the first time they got caught and i am sure him shooting the cop was s panic move…
he wasnt no stone cold killer

      • Shot the cop & shot at the rest arriving to cover the getaway, with Steady B driving.

      • ll3acdafukup

Man I was just looking through my cassette tapes and I got that tape “Whats my name” Use Me was the sheet

      • ll3acdafukup

LOL yea I said cassette tapes you youngins!!!

      • ** Bootleg cassette, clear plastic, with white, faded, smudged writing **

    • Papi Peligro

Nice people go along with the crowd. Don’t have back bone to say I’m not doing it. They just roll with it. You have to teach your kids not only to follow the rules but to not be afraid to say I’m not doing that. I know I got caught up in Dumb stuff towing the line. Nothing as bad as that though. But it was because I couldn’t say no.

    • NotUpForDebate

Baffles me how people can say some one is a nice guy and you can’t believe they did such a thing…You can be an angel to friends & family but behind closed doors be living a very devilish life. Greed and the lust that people have for money can do that to a person. Let this man deal with his consequences because you reap what you sow. Yea it’s easy to pass the burden off to Steady B because of his personality but ultimately records show Cool C pulled that trigger. Follower or Leader he chose his fate that day. This needs to be taught to all of our children because they are out here making the same mistakes due to lacking the understanding of consequences.

    smh…Thats Crazy

  • i knew Cool c when we were both in the Industry and I agree he was certainly a very nice person. I am sad to hear that he is going to be executed on January 8th. I feel for his family. However.. i also met the family of Lauretha Vaird. her two children has had to endure so much pain in these last two decades. It’s an American tragedy on both sides. I’m really feeling for both families at this time. I also feel for Cool c. who was a totally different person back then as opposed to the man he is now. May God bless him. But we all have consequences to our actions. may this be a strong lesson for our youth.

It’s a shame another life is being taken one that was special in his right. Im sorry to see him executed I think it’s a brutal act that needs to be abolished we kill people an eye for an eye and believe that’s just. I don’t know how cool c would shoot and kill a officer yet alone a female you have to be a cold person able to kill and nobody knows what goes on in a persons mind when they are under pressure in that situation. Most men would not hurt a female yet alone shoot them. It takes a special type of person to kill. So if he did shoot her that means he was a sick person and should be locked away I think it’s the later!

Rip to the lady and hopefully bruh has a peaceful journey also. Sad all the way around.

Good riddance…..cost us taxpayers already enough money keeping that scum locked up in prison and giving him a better life than many of us have on the outside. I don’t feel sorry for him for a second, he got what he truly deserved. Okay, you all can start hating now 🙂

  • Chueyson

I was a fan of both Cool C and Steady B growing up in Mt. Airy/Germantown section of Philly. They were hip hop without question. For a reason why they (1) attempted to rob a bank at 8 am in the morning and (2) shot and killed a police officer (NOTE her son was also a fan) and glorified it during that murder, just set the young black community back for at least a couple of years in the 1990’s. Everyone in hip hop (fan or established artist) was dumbfounded, etc. Granted, all of hip hop back then had a shady contract, but when you have certain negative people, that are your “boys” and got your back, are NOT in jail, facing death row, unless few already passed. The point is you reap what you sew. God bless the officer’s son and family. Cool C, you and Steady B, you messed up.
