(AllHipHop News) Dr. Dre is one of the most accomplished Hip Hop producers in history, but even a GOAT has his personal favorites. During his new Beats 1 radio show The Pharmacy, Dre showed loved to another legendary board master.

“There’s a lot of producers I like to listen to, a lot of producers out there that I respect, a lot of producers that I get inspiration from,” says Dre. “But you know what? I’m gonna write a prescription for just one. What I want right now is just the dopes of Dilla.”

Detroit producer J. Dilla crafted sounds for A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, The Roots, Common, Erykah Badu, Madlib, and many others. He also released his own projects. Dilla passed away in 2006 from cardiac arrest.

Watch Dr. Dre talk about J Dilla in the video below.

  • Dre knows the truth. Although Dr. Dre is a dope businessman, he couldn’t f*ck with Dilla when it came to production. I don’t care how many Eminem fans think Dr. Dre is the best (simply for producing Eminem of course). Jay Dilla was and currently is the best hip hop producer of all time. Nobody can duplicate his style. Dr. Dre, DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Kanye West, Pharrell, Timbaland… All of those styles could be duplicated. But NOBODY could duplicate Dilla’s sh*t. Dilla is the reigning champ and until someone comes along to knock him off, much respect is given to the Beat God.

Boy sit your fool ass down with that dumb s*it you just said. Dre is the best producer hands down and there is no one who can touch him period.

      • The troll arrives! Keep it moving son. This is a real hip hop discussion. Eminem d*ck riders not allowed. Hahahahaha….

      • El Jeff

why r u assuming every Dre fan must be an Eminem stan? u do know Dre been making classic shit since the 80s right? i agree with the homie- u need 2 sit ya ass down

      • El Jeff is it? Dr. Dre has made classic albums. True. But he isn’t the greatest. In fact he isn’t in the top 3. Bottom line, Dr. Dre has a team of producers that makes beats for him. There have been rumors for years about his thieving. Even THE CHRONIC (his greatest masterpiece) has been plagued with rumors that he didn’t do the beats and that Daz from The Dogg Pound did them. Hi-Tek, broke ass Scott Storch and others can also be linked to the “supposed” greatest producer of all time. I will give Dr. Dre credit where it is due. He is a good producer (when he actually produces) and without a doubt he is THE MOST COMMERCIALLY SUCCESSFUL PRODUCER. That can’t be denied. But the greatest????? Hell nah!!!! Even Dre admitted in this interview. Dilla produced from his f*cking deathbed. Not only when the money was right. What you need to be asking yourself is why a f*cking legend like Dr. Dre is giving it up to someone like Dilla if it wasn’t true. And it’s not just Dre. Kanye, Pharrell, Pete Rock, Timbaland, RZA, and DJ Premier admitted in interviews that Dilla’s sh*t was next level and couldn’t be touched. Those are facts and the videos of each giving Dilla props can be viewed online. Please…. Learn hip hop before you talk.

      • El Jeff

        u SALTY AF

      • Deal with it and move on.

      • O’s

Dude let the kid have his opinion, dilla is ur fav but he isn’t his and mine, does that make me dumb or lacking hip-hop knowledge? By the way, Dre basically praised dilla for his passion and dedication and never said he was Berra than him, preem etc or the GOAT. Dr Dre has used beatmakers, musicians and its public knowledge. It’s on his wikipedia page. Learn the diff bw beatmakers and producer, ghost producing and co producing youngsta.

      • I don’t think I said that Dre said he was the greatest in this particular interview. I said Dre spoke about Dilla producing from his deathbed. Pay attention! Please get your sh*t straight before you try to check someone. And I never said Dilla was my favorite. He isn’t. But the sh*t he could do with sound manipulation, you can’t understand if you have no involvement in music beyond what’s on the weak ass radio. Real recognize real and that’s why Dre gave props. Next….

      • TapiseriaSmiechu

Only stupid people could compare legendary people like these….

      • And only f*ck faces interrupt convo when clearly nobody even mentioned their name.

      • amusicianzmind

If you know anything about chopping and actually break down what Dilla did, you’d change your mind quickly.

  • meanygreene

    has dre ever mentioned premier?

If you’re only into Mike Will Made It and DJ Mustard beats and haven’t heard a Dilla produced song or checked out his albums, you have missed hip hop music at its artistic heights. Good look for one of the greats like Dre to acknowledge him for his work.
