Killer Mike: In Schools Kids Aren't Taught About Dr. Martin Luther King's Radical Nature (Video)

(AllHipHop News) Yesterday (Jan. 17), Michael “Killer Mike” Render joined Bernie Sanders (who is currently campaigning for the presidency), Senator Nina Turner, and Dr. Colonel West at Charleston, South Carolina. They came together for a panel discussion to collectively share their perspective on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

As the discussion progressed Killer Mike would speak on a variety of topics. The wise wordsmith spoke on how it wasn’t until later in his life that he learned about Dr. King’s radical nature. He also challenged a skewed historic view which has tried to compartmentalize Dr. King’s actions.

“I have been mentored directly by Andrew Young, Joseph Lowery, Ralph David Abernathy III, and others that were directly involved with Dr. King…We have been sold a load of crock,” he expressed. “We have been given a pretty, little compartment to put Dr. King in that says ‘No matter how much you hurt. No matter how much we stigmatize you. No matter how much we traumatize you, we beat you. As radical as you could go is nonviolence.’ And that’s about where it is. It never talks about the social justice aspect of Dr. King.”

As Killer Mike began to run his jewels of wisdom he acknowledged that a white woman taught him about Dr. King’s radical nature. “Alice Johnson was a white woman and my mentor, from Chicago,” said the respected lyricist. “She was the first person to introduce me to the radically different ideas of King that directly challenged establishment. They challenged the military-industrial complex. They challenged this country to feed and take care of its poor and mentally ill in a different way…And I had never heard of that. I just heard in school ‘Be nonviolent.’ It was all about desegregation. It absolutely was not only about desegregation.”

As the conversation continued Killer Mike would make a startling comparison. He claimed that the same issues for which Bernie Sanders is campaigning are the same ones’s that prompted the civil rights activist’s death. “He was killed for many of the same reasons this man [Bernie Sanders] is campaigning for. He was killed because he spoke against the military-industrial complex,”

Why does history choose to only champion parts of Dr. King’s legacy?

  • MLK later in life realized that desegregation was adding to the problem not fixing.. Desegregation ultimately taught blacks to be completely Dependant on whites for education, jobs, food and housing.. While this would have been a good option for blacks to be able to shop at whites stores and attend their schools. MLKs intentions were never to be for blacks to be codependent on their enemy.. Malcolm X always preached indepedence, self reliance, black group economics and owin businessees to black people.. But a lot of people thought he was being too radical and were too busy trying to get accepted by white people instead of building their own economy.. The truth is, black people did not integrate with white people, only their money and ability to spend money at white estalishments integrated. Black people hardly owns any wealth and resources in America as a whole.. Black people don’t even have their own economy. The main reasons why so many black people are unemployed is because they don’t own many businesses to employ their own people.. We should have listened to Malcolm X now the future generations of our kids will have to start with nothing because most blacks will not have any wealth to past down to their kids..

      Deeeeeep Brotha………. Deeeeeep……….

    • W.E.B. Du Bois

wrong – we fought for our rights to our country , not being around you , – for what ? – see , you cant name one reason we wud want to be around you , cuz it is a very stupid lieing comment

      • Q.

I HAVE A DREAM…I wish we could’ve redirected James Earl Ray’s Remington round into your pregnant mom’s belly. Dr. King might still be here kicking it and your weird azz wouldn’t. FOH

      • Some people will never want to hear the truth.. The truth is black people are not really that much better off today than they were 50 years ago… If white people decided to stop giving black people jobs, housing, food and education.. Black People would have nothing to fall back on..

      • 3rdEye_Sharp

We would, brother! We always have and always will have something to fall back on…it’s called ingenuity. Massa gave us scraps and we made soul food. The White man said Jim Crow, we made Black Wall Streets ALL over the country. We will always survive…that’s why they hate us, so much…because we can endure and they can’t!

      • SBRon

Facts!! White dudes are killing themselves, directly and indirectly, all over the country over “economic uncertainty” and fear of being in the “minority”…WEAK BASTIDS!!

      • W.E.B. Du Bois

wrong again – white people own and give out Nothing , its our government that does . if our government stop giving out the same to white people , you would haved nothing to fall back on

      • Which group of people do you think own and run the government?

      • W.E.B. Du Bois

us americans own the government , us americans run it by allowing who we want to be in their spots every term – next weezil race question

      • Ignorance is a disease. I can’t debate with someone who is purposely being disingenious just so they can divert from telling the truth to prevent themselves from looking like an idiot.. Rich White Men control the government sir.. Every black enterntainer, black scholar or any black person of high status in america has a White Man over them..

      • W.E.B. Du Bois

wrong again – ignorance is not a disease , lts people – you cant debate because like every white person held to the Truth , you cant think of nothing to say , and disingerious or whatever ? – that’s just another weezil race failed attempt to deflect from you talking bout the Truth , and rich white men control nothing but theirs , just like everyone else does , want proof shithead? – send a rich white man to walk in my house and watch I shoot his face off , and every black has a white over them ? wrong again , only our laws are over Us – only thing you whites over is the millions of babys you post in your sites , showing yourself get away with molesting them

      • Have you ever looked for a job? If so, who was your employer you were being interviewed by? Do you currently have a Job? If so, who is your boss and who is the person who signs your paychecks? Do you rent house, apartment or stay with any of your relatives? If so, who are the property owners? Do you shop at stores such as walmart, kmart etc.. If so who are the owners of these stores? Do you have an open checking account at any one of these branches such as chase, bank of america, usbank, usaa etc.. If so, who own and control these establishments? Do you watch televison or listen to the radio? If so, who owns and controls these media outlets? Have you ever purchased a car from a dealership such as chryler, ford, dodge, bmw, chevrolet, buick, cadillac etc.. If so, who are the owners these companies sir? I’m pretty sure you know by now where I’m going with this.. I think you’re purposely being disingenious because of you letting you emotions get the best of you.. Instead of thinking logically and replying with facts to back up your useless claims, you reply with only insulting comments that to divert away from the truth.. You’re in denial but eventually you will have to face the reality.. That’s when black people will start having to depend on themselves for survival andwill have no choice but to pull their money and resources together and start practicing group economics like all other races of people in this world. One day white people will stop providing jobs, education, housing and food for black people.. If blacks want white people to stop being racist towards them.. They need to build their own economy, own their own business and govern themselves.. All longs as black people go to white people and expect them to provide.. they will have to deal with racism, discrimination and injustices that all come with it.. Listen to Malcolm X talk about black empowerment and group economics.. He explains how those are the only ways black people can escape from poverty and racsim.. One day this will all make sense..

I would encourage all supporters of the movement to read the book From N!ggers to Gods by brother Akil, it’s a good read regardless of your religious background.

      • Ibn Mahmood

No human being can be a God. There is only 1 God. Do you see an elephant suddenly claiming it went from elephant to a human being?? No it doesn’t because it understands it is an elephant and plays its part.

  • Q.

Good post. Hip-Hop at it’s best is used as a vehicle to spread truth. Year after year we engage in the ritual pussification of Dr. King’s legacy as that of a mere non-violent “dreamer,” and not his rightful role as a revolutionary martyr. A dreamer is person engaged in wishful slumber, a sleeper. A person who’s asleep is ignorant to their surroundings. Dr. King was not asleep! Not long before he was assassinated, Dr. King confided to civil rights activist/singer-actor Harry Belafonte:

“I’ve come upon something that disturbs me deeply…We have fought hard and long for integration, as I believe we should have, and I know that we will win. But I’ve come to believe we’re integrating into a burning house.…I’m afraid that America may be losing what moral vision she may have had…And I’m afraid that even as we integrate, we are walking into a place that does not understand that this nation needs to be deeply concerned with the plight of the poor and disenfranchised. Until we commit ourselves to ensuring that the underclass is given justice and opportunity, we will continue to perpetuate the anger and violence that tears at the soul of this nation…I fear, I am integrating my people into a burning house.”

And here we are 50 years later, his words still holding true. Why? ‘Cause like Mike said, “We have been sold a load of crock.” Millennials are getting their heads cracked open by these wicked-azz crooked cops and they’re on the streets screaming “Why?” Why? Because we fail to study history and learn our lessons. This is why we’re stuck in a quantum redundancy, i.e. a time loop, repeating the same ol’ same ol’. I’ll leave you with this,

Q.: Can a system founded on hypocrisy and corruption be truly reformed? …Or must it be dismantled and replaced?

P.S. Nice low-key endorsement of Bernie Sanders. He don’t have my vote quite yet. And oh yeah, fvck Hillary.

    • W.E.B. Du Bois

didn’t read that – but We gotta get you located from hiding so we can split your face open for having Us in your mouth

      • Q.

LOL There you are, coon. I knew it was a matter of time before you gave me your first troll of the new year. You must’ve forgot, n!gga…2016 is gonna be a hard year for you. You coming out the closet this year, n!gga. LOL

Given, Dr. King didn’t have the resources available to him, that we have nowadays. I respect the Ancestor, however…you can’t be free, until you cast aside the God of your oppressors. 85% of Black people around the world identify with being either Muslim or Christian…Who facilitated the Middle Passage??? Muslims and Christians!!! Our children need to learn about Toussaint L’ouveture. Why do you think that slaves had to go through a process called “seasoning?” That’s where they learned Christianity. As far as Bernie Sanders go…I’m not voting for anyone that wants to do something for “the poor.” I’ll vote, when we have a candidate that’s willing to do something for Black people! These White people are so retarded…they’re giving benefits and privileges to “Native Americans”, not knowing that the “Native Americans” were AFRICAN!!!! Mensa Musa sent 300 ships to the “New World” in 1125 A.D….and guess where they landed??? Canada, America, Mexico, and South America. Ancient African people’s stamp was pyramids….You can’t find ONE continent on this planet, that doesn’t have pyramids on it! Where’s the science to replicate what our ancestors created??? There isn’t any, anymore…Thanks to Theodosius, who ordered the Kemetic libraries and temples that held this information, to be destroyed. Now, these idiots are spending money trying to figure out the quantum mathematics and science involved in building them, but to no avail..These wicked people destroy everything that they come in contact with…then find someone else to blame it on! Smh

Martin Luther King is still doing more for Blacks than Obama has in the last 8 years but no one has the balls say it. Obama has no effect at all.

  • Isa Ibn Maryam

The fact of the matter is we will never fully understand the depth and ungodly mental illness that the white supremacist mindset is capable of to truly launch a winnable defense. We’re simply not the type of people to get entrenched in such primitive behavior. We’re scholars and intellectuals with a desire for prosperity and progressive innovation. These Cavemen know this that’s why they’ll do whatever necessary to sabotage the plight of a united movement towards racial equality.

    • 3rdEye_Sharp

      Say that!!!!
