As one of Hip-Hop’s best live performers, Doug E. Fresh can rest assured that his place in rap history is secured.

Nevertheless, that hasn’t stopped the rhyme veteran from educating current rap fans on the essence of the culture through his new cartoon series Ultra Five.

“It’s about the five different elements of Hip-Hop. I’m also building a film studio in Harlem,” Doug E. Fresh told AllHipHop.com. “I should hopefully be dropping an album too.”

The rapper revealed his plans during a recent trip to London, where he and fellow rap legend Big Daddy Kane were on hand to perform at an exclusive party thrown by footwear giant Puma.

The company celebrated its decision to bring back its Puma States shoes at the event, which took place last week at Canvas, Kings Cross.

In addition to Ultra Five, Doug E. Fresh will be seen on the small screen with Sean “Diddy” Combs in January as host of HBO and Sean Combs’ Bad Boys of Comedy.

The rapper also expressed his feelings about Hip-Hop being dead, the lyricist feels different.

“The current state of Hip-Hop is good to me. I mean, everybody’s making money, people are enjoying themselves, songs are coming out, records are being produced and there’s an independent line now where artist’s have the ability to make independent deals and songs and still get a lot of exposure,” Fresh said. “You’ve got the Internet, over 400 channels, publications, radio, underground radio, all kinds of communication devices like chat rooms and you can sell your songs at the shows. It’s an opportunity for anybody to come out with great music and work it.”

As a pioneer and elder statesman in Hip-Hop, Doug E. Fresh noted the key to success was a long, fruitful career.

“As far as the songs coming out, some of them are good and some are wack. But that’s been going on for a minute!” he continued. “There’s so much room for the upcoming artists, like the new Big Daddy Kane’s, the new Doug E Fresh’s and that’s what I wanna see. But I want them to be there with longevity. A lot of them out right now don’t perform as well as they should.”
