Robin Thicke, T.I. and Pharrell Fighting Marvin Gaye Estate Over “Blurred Lines”

(AllHipHop News) The estate of one of Robin Thicke’s musical influences is threatening to take legal action against his most successful single, “Blurred Lines”.

According to The Hollywood Reporter,  T.I. (Clifford Harris), Pharrell (Pharrell Williams) and Robin Thicke filed a lawsuit yesterday (August 15th) against the estate of Marvin Gaye who have claimed that “Blurred Lines” bare copy songs they have rights over. According to the suit, the Gaye estate is claiming “Blurred Lines” copies elements of Gaye’s “Got To Give It Up”

But there are no similarities between plaintiffs’ composition and those the claimants allege they own, other than commonplace musical elements. Plaintiffs created a hit and did it without copying anyone else’s composition.

The three artists are looking admission that “Blurred Lines” does not copy from Gaye’s “Got To Give It Up” and that the Gaye estate not pursue any further legal action on the grounds of copyright infringment.

The estate, which also owns The Funkadelics catalog, has alleged that the song also borrows from The Funkadelic’s “Sexy Ways”. Funkadelic frontman and funk legend George Clinton took to his personal Twitter account to voice his support for Robin Thicke in the ongoing legal dispute:
