UPDATE: Ashanti To Perform At #DontStealPossible Education Rally In New York

THE SINGER WILL JOIN LISA LESLIE & 8,000 OTHERS IN BRINGING AWARENESS TO THE NY EDUCATION CRISIS

(AllHipHop News) Grammy nominated singer Janelle Monáe is lending her voice to help bring awareness to the education crisis in New York state. On March 4, Monáe will perform at the #DontStealPossible rally in Albany. The event is a call to action for 8,000 parents, students, and teachers with the goal of pushing state leaders to make bold, structural changes to the education system.

“It’s heartbreaking to know that there are 800,000 New York kids falling through the cracks every year,” said Monáe. “I am honored to stand with families demanding an end to this crisis.”

The #DontStealPossible rally is scheduled to begin at 11:30 at the steps of the State Capitol. It will be followed by a press conference at 1:15. More than 80 schools are expected to participate along with WNBA star Lisa Leslie.

UPDATE:

Due to bad weather, Janelle Monae had to pull out of the performance. R&B singer Ashanti will be replacing her at the rally.

“As a New York native, I’m proud to stand with 10,000 parents, students, and educators to demand an end to a failing schools crisis that hurts children of color the most,” said Ashanti. “Every child deserves access to an excellent education.”
