Kool G Rap has never had a public beef, but now he and his wife/rapper Ma Barker find themselves embroiled in a situation that momentarily shorted out the seedy gossip circuit. In the rap world nobody wanted it with the lyrical icon and his personal life was mostly shrouded in privacy. Until Karrine “Superhead” Steffans penned her “tell a lot” book, “Confessions of a Video Vixen.”
In the book, the hottie-turned-author exposed her version of her early relationship with G Rap, which she claims was chocked full of neglect, physical violence and abuse. G Rap and Barker vehemently and vigorously deny Steffans account and also charge that the sex kitten has lied on others in the streets and music game.
To verify these alleged falsehoods, Ma Barker, at her spouse’s urging, taped the majority of her conversation with Steffans. What these tapes hold is a mystery and Ma Barker isn’t revealing. Meanwhile, Kool G Rap is mounting a return to rap with the release of a new mixtape, Top 5 Dead Or Alive, but must first contend with what he deems is meant to “f**k up people and people’s characters.” By the way, the pair has a few contrite words for Big Tigger and Method Man, who were like innocent bystanders in a gunfight. Karrine “Superhead” Steffans is sticking by her story, but G Rap and Ma Barker are sticking it to her in this feature…
AllHipHop.com: It’s not good to talk to you about these things, but here we are with the Superhead stuff on the front page.
Kool G Rap: Nah, you ain’t take me out my mode or nothing, baby. Let’s go.
AllHipHop.com: I know you are pretty much a private person so to have this talk come out, can’t be the way you operate.
Kool G Rap: Basically, what homegirl is about is trying to smear people’s images and f**k up people and people’s characters – their image in the public. This is just for the simple fact that she ain’t get what she wanted out of f**kin’ with a hundred n***as, you know? She wanted somebody to scoop her up, wife her or whatever and that ain’t happen, and this is her payback for the industry.
AllHipHop.com: Some say otherwise – this is what rappers deserve.
Ma Barker: Her mother don’t f**k with her. Her father don’t mess with her. That tells you somebody got a problem. The only person I feel sorry for is that baby to have a mother like that. She want to dedicate the book to her son? What kind of mother is that? People believe her lies, because she puts herself in the lies. She told Wendy, “I slit my wrists” and Wendy was like, “Can I see your wrists?” And she was like, “I don’t have any marks on me.” Now, how can you slit your writs and not have any marks on you? Anybody that want to believe her is kind of stupid too. And homegirl don’t want to have a one on one with me.
AllHipHop.com: It seemed that she made that clear in some of her interviews that when she was at her lowest point and nobody helped her, she started to think “book.”
Kool G Rap: We played that audio tape on the Miss Jones [Hot 97] show and you seen there was no resentment and everything was a good communication – between me and her, as far as the kid. She just wanted to make it juicy for her book or whatever the f**k to make it look like I “Ike Turnered” her out and she got all this s**t against me when he ain’t even like that. And I was trying to deal with homegirl on a civil basis, but she is like one of those impossible people to deal with.
AllHipHop.com: How much audio is there?
Ma Barker: A lot. Almost every conversation we had. Everybody wants the audio.
AllHipHop.com: Because of what she said, a lot of people are now saying that Kool G Rap is a deadbeat dad.
Kool G Rap: Yeah, half of the people that are talking that deadbeat dad s**t, I took care of my kids and the motherf***ers that gave birth to the kids. Motherf***ers forget that s### when you ain’t with them no more. All that talk about the deadbeat dad – that that is is some spiteful s**t, you know what I’m saying? Basically, it’s like this: Nobody says nothing about the other kid when they are living with you. Nobody says, let’s move out of this nice s**t and downsize so that we can take care of the other kid. So, all that s### is some fake, phony s### to me.
AllHipHop.com: You also said that you don’t know for certain that the child is actually yours.
Kool G Rap: No, I don’t. Everything that I’ve done up to this point has been out of a good heart.
AllHipHop.com: Have you ever taken a paternity test or anything?
Kool G Rap: No, I haven’t and that’s what I’m saying. I did what I did just off the muscle. I wasn’t around homegirl 24/7. I had to make out of town trips and all that.
AllHipHop.com: Have you read the book at all?
Kool G Rap: Yeah, I read the book.
AllHipHop.com: What did you think?
Kool G Rap: Like I said, she fabricates a lot of s**t.
AllHipHop.com: She made a lot of sensational claims about you hitting her and physical abuse.
Kool G Rap: I didn’t break her ribs. That’s another f**kin’ exaggeration. Homegirl forgot to mention that she threw some big s**t and almost hit me in my face. People leave s**t out like that. Like when she left the baby off with me, she left the baby out into the f***in’ street. This is real s**t. It was in the parking lot and cars drive by in the parking lot. She sat the baby in front of the van, backed out of the complex and drove off. That’s crazy right there, but she got all this love for her son. So f**k everybody talking all that I beat on her, deadbeat dad s**t – what about that s**t? You can tell she ain’t got no love for her kid by even dedicating the book to him. She’s dropping him off in the street like that and n***as want to give this b***h sympathy like that? Man, f**k outta here. If we was still together, she wouldn’t be talking none of this stupid s**t. [Laughs]
Ma Barker: I been with G for six years and he ain’t never put his hands on me. Once an abuser, always an abuser. Me and him done had some crazy arguments. You would think just once – if he had a history of whupping somebody’s as like that – he would have slapped me. He ain’t never put his hands on me. And I don’t like the way she tried to take his character and stomp on it like that after he did so much s**t for her.
AllHipHop.com: The book, the audio and the radio seem to reflect different things.
Kool G Rap: She’s contradicting herself. Which one is it? Was we good or was we enemies? She only said we was on good terms when I got on the radio. All before that, Wendy Williams Show, the Star [and Bucwild morning show] she wasn’t talking that. When I f**kin’ called there and put her on the spot, she can’t lie so good. You know what I’m saying?
Ma Barker: They had like two altercations. It wasn’t like she was running to the hospital and she couldn’t go to school. He paid for her modeling school. How he don’t want her to go to school? That’s why she couldn’t address none of that stuff. He paid for it. In that book, she is lying about a lot of dudes. She tracked G down when we were in Long Island and she said, “Oh G I want to see you.” But this is the person that beat you down? G moved her into an apartment. She moved out of that apartment into another one just to be closer to him. She got arrested for prostitution. She was w###### heavy. Ain’t nobody want that chick. And she was a video groupie so she got to take a lot of pics with people, but a lot of people she wasn’t with. A lot of dude probably let her suck them off and then left her…she’s bitter about a lot of that.
AllHipHop.com: A lot of people in the mainstream know your name more now. Do you think there is anyway to capitalize off of this even though it’s clearly not a good look?
Kool G Rap: I’m going to try to capitalize the best way possible. And we are doing the other thing [“Top Five Dead or Alive” mixtape and upcoming album] but she’s not going to slander my character like that and make me look like this f**kin’ monster to the public. And everybody that knows me knows that G Rap is a good-hearted motherf**ker.
AllHipHop.com: She said when she met you, she used a different name that she made up.
Kool G Rap: She lied to me about her name, her age, every f**kin’ thing. So come on. Her name wasn’t Karrine…it was Yizette to me.
AllHipHop.com: People don’t want you to pass judgment her, but want you to pass it on you.
Kool G Rap: Exactly. That’s how people do. Regular n***as be like “deadbeat dad,” because b****es don’t f**k with them like that. It’s only when your face is like a public figure face or something like that – music or sports- do they f**k with you like that. They don’t f**k with n***as that they know they can’t get nothing out of.
AllHipHop.com: What about Method Man and Big Tigger? They were victims in the crossfire…
Kool G Rap: Some names got out, but [Ma] ain’t do it on purpose. It was in the midst of her being angry. We tried to apologized to Method Man. I know we semi-did it over the air, but we want him to know that it’s not no disrespect. I tried to do it on a one-on-one basis, but I never got a reply. I would like to do the same thing to Tigger too, because homegirl is such a liar. Ma Barker was just relying what the b***h had told her. It’s a shame, because this business got people looking at me off of her word. Just the mention of their names got them looking in crazy way. Their names shouldn’t have gotten mentioned just for that reason alone.
Ma Barker: That’s another thing I’m not feeling. Dude with Meth, we weren’t trying to put him on the spot, but it was more like this chick is saying she got a baby by you. She’s got a problem. I can understand [Meth being mad]. And that’s why I didn’t send all the other audio to Hot 97, because there is a lotta other people she is naming in there. I don’t want people saying, “Man, G’s wife let it all out.”
AllHipHop.com: You heard from Tigger yet?
Ma Barker: Nah, we ain’t heard from him, but he can only be mad at her, because that is what she is saying about dude. Me and Tigger was cool. I ain’t know if that was in the book or not. [Ma Barker admitted that she had not read the book yet.] She named some street dudes too. Somebody’s gonna hurt her. I ain’t think he deserved to be spread rumors about him like that.
