Rapper T.I. Appears In Court; Officially Sentenced To Prison

Hip-Hop star T.I. appeared in federal court today (March 27), where he was sentenced to one year in prison for buying illegal machine guns and silencers in October of 2007.

T.I., born Clifford Harris Jr. was caught purchasing the weapons in an Atlanta parking lot, just moments before he was scheduled to take the stage at the BET Awards on October 13, 2007.

He was arrested and released on $3 million dollars bond, after one of his former bodyguards helped arrange the purchase with an undercover agent.

In March of 2007, T. I. pleaded guilty to illegal firearms possession and being a convicted felon with a firearm.

T.I.’s defense team of Dwight Thomas and Steve Sadow worked out a plea deal with prosecutors, which allowed the rapper to avoid the federally mandated 4 and a half years for his crime.

He was ordered to complete at least 1,000 hours of community service and serve the one-year prison term.

U.S. District Court Judge Charles Pannell approved the plea deal today under the terms and sentenced T.I. to one year in prison.

He must also pay an $100,000 fine and perform another 500 hours worth of community service.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, T.I. could be freed from the feds’ custody in as little as ten months, for good behavior credits.

Today’s hearing was attended by friend and former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young, as well as Ex-DeKalb Count CEO, Vernon Jones.

Jones acknowledged T.I.’s impact in pop culture and believes the rapper has made a positive difference since his arrest.

While under house arrest, he completed his sixth solo album Paper Trail, which moved over 568,000 copies during its first week in stores.

The album produce several hit singles including “Whatever You Like,” “Live Your Live” featuring Rihanna and his most recent, “Dead and Gone” featuring Justin Timberlake.

He also won a Grammy Award for his verse on the “Swagga Like Us” remix, featuring Jay-Z, Kanye West and Lil’ Wayne.

T.I. also managed to find the time to visit 25 states where he attended more than 260 events, spoke at 58 schools, 12 Boys and Girls Clubs, nine churches and the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice.

Mack Maine: Lil Wayne’s Presidential Homey

“Music can steer you in the wrong way or the right way, and hopefully I steer people in the right way at the end.” – Mack Maine

As a long-standing fixture on the underground scene, Mack Maine has steadily garnered attention in the mainstream, a presidential campaign years in the making. A choice feature on Lil Wayne’s number 1 single, “Got Money,” and fresh off of the first of two rounds on a huge tour with Weezy F, Keyshia Cole, Keri Hilson and Gym Class Heroes, Mack Maine’s is quickly becoming a force in Hip-Hop. He’s the president of Wayne’s Young Money. He helps manage the career of Wayne. A master multi-tasker, Mack’s responsibilities runeth over. Here’s how he runs his administration.

AllHipHop.com: You just came off the widely successful “I Am Music” tour with Lil Wayne, and you performed every night in your own set. What was that like for you?

Mack Maine: It was like a dream come true. Something like a little kid that plays basketball right, and he in his backyard and always dreamed of making that last shot of the game and making the fans go crazy. It felt like that. The way everyone screamed when you come out, it was just some s**t you always dreamed of. To be able to have this opportunity, it’s just unreal. We had fun the whole time, the chemistry was great between all the artists, all the Young Money artists got their shine…it was a beautiful thing.

AllHipHop.com: You were actually the only Young Money artist that performed every night right?

Mack Maine: Yep.

AllHipHop.com: Why’s that?

Mack Maine: Well we didn’t want to have everybody rocking every night because it’s like, Young Money artists, different ones is poppin’ in different regions. So we were switching it up every night and that worked a lot better. Me, I’m kind of like the team captain so, I’d go and do my thing and then I’d bring everybody out.

AllHipHop.com: Young Money has a nice roster going. Who’s everyone on there?

Mack Maine: Young Money is myself, Nicki Minaj, Jae Millz, Gudda Gudda, Drake, T Streets, Tyga, Lil Chuckee and Twist. Chuckee and Twist [is] young too, 13 and 15.

AllHipHop.com: The rapper Curren$y was once upon a time on the label, but he left due to frustration that he was never going to come out. Did you ever have the same fears?

Mack Maine: Not at all.

AllHipHop.com: Did you guys stay cool?

Mack Maine: We haven’t spoke in a little minute, but I got love for him. I wish him much success.

“I’m one of the realest to do it. I want to make an impact on peoples’ lives more than anything… After people hear a song, hopefully they go on smiling with their day. Sometimes they may cry…”

AllHipHop.com: You and Wayne have a very close bond. How did that relationship come about, and how did it end up with you being on Young Money?

Mack Maine: That started before music. We started in the neighborhood, we both from Hollygrove [New Orleans]. We been close since Baby and Slim in the Cash Money days, so it’s beyond music. That’s my brother. We had kind of both did our own thing with the music after the Hot Boyz days. I ventured off, had a couple moves that never really went through. He thought I was signed to somebody. Then I eventually had a video that played on BET called Unsigned Hype and Wayne actually happened to see it. He hit me after that like, “Man what you doing? I thought you were signed to somebody! You supposed to be over here!” He got me a flight the very next day, and I been Young Money ever since.

AllHipHop.com: With the release of the new Young Money single, “Every Girl,” should we be expecting a Young Money album?

Mack Maine: Yep! It’s dropping the same day as Rebirth, Wayne’s album. Right now it’s looking like June. So look out for that. The video for “Every Girl” coming soon too…it’ll be out in about two weeks. We shot it in L.A. the same weekend we shot the video for Prom Queen.

AllHipHop.com: You also just recently dropped a mixtape with Don Cannon, “This is Just a Mixtape.”

Mack Maine: Yeah, shout out to Cannon. It’s a great mixtape. It’s better than some people’s albums. I got some nice features on there. Wayne on there, Mistah Fab, Gorilla Zoe, Pleasure P, Rick Ross, I got a track with Mystikal and Soulja Slim, rest in peace. It’s all original beats. Things of all that nature and whatnot. It’s a beast. I’m a beast. Free download so check that out.

AllHipHop.com: The “single” so to speak, was actually released as an experiment on Twitter and it was really successful.

Mack Maine: Yea, it got like 14,000 hits in two nights. It was crazy. Shout out to my dude Moe Arora from Rockstar Branded on that one. Check me out on Twitter too. Www.twitter.com/mackmaine.

AllHipHop.com: Also on that mixtape…you have a song, “Soldiers,” dedicated to the soldiers fighting in the war right now. What inspired you to write that?

Mack Maine: Well as you know I don’t write any of my songs, everything is just off the top. So it’s not like I sat back and heard the beat and was like this one gonna be for all the soldiers. I can’t even lie and say I did that. I think it was something I felt in my spirit, you know? I heard the beat, you know me and the beat…we had a good chemistry, and that’s just what came of it. It actually made me respect the soldiers more after I did it, just listening to it. I think they really get overlooked and I don’t know nobody in hip-hop that ever did a song for the soldiers. You got to let them dudes know we appreciate them. They put they lives on the line for our freedom, so how could you not appreciate somebody that’s basically willing to die for you?

AllHipHop.com: Absolutely. So, you don’t write any of your songs though? They’re all off the top?

Mack Maine: Yep all of them. All of my last mixtapes, “Freestyle 101,” “G-Series (with Curren$y),” “B#### I’m Mack Maine” and “This is Just a Mixtape”…all off the top. I’m about to start writing again though. I just kind of want to do everything. Some will be written; some will just be written in my head, depends on how I’m feeling at the time.

AllHipHop.com: Well besides your freestyling capabilities, what defines Mack Maine as an artist? What are you about?

Mack Maine: I’m one of the realest to do it. I want to make an impact on peoples’ lives more than anything, you know? Music is supposed to be about feelings, emotions, stuff like that. After people hear a song, hopefully they go on smiling with their day. Sometimes they may cry, some might reminisce, some people may change their lives after hearing a certain song. Music can steer you in the wrong way or the right way, and hopefully I steer people in the right way at the end.

“Every Girl” Lil Wayne Ft. Drake, Gudda, Mack Maine, & Jae Millz

AllHipHop.com: Aside from rap, you actually have a lot of other ventures going on as well. You’re the President of Young Money now.

Mack Maine: Yeah, it’s been my long time goal to be an executive. Just in general. So it was kind of a natural fit for me. And I feel as though, who could represent artists better than an artist? I know the game…I know how it is, how it feels. So I can use that knowledge on the other side of the table now, and have Young Money do its thing.

AllHipHop.com: You also co-manage Wayne, right?

Mack Maine: Yea, it’s like Tez, he the primary manager. And then I come in and I help with different business ventures too. Like I might take a few meetings, and I handle a lot of day-to-day business with him too. Like right now we’re about to take a trip out of the country real quick to handle something, stuff like that. So that’s my little j.o. as far as that go.

AllHipHop.com: What’s the future looking like for you?

Mack Maine: Bright! I’m about to start my first movie this summer. I was supposed to start after the tour was over, but we going out for another round. So after this one, I’ll be in there by the summer. It’s a gangsta flick. Kush DVD, my DVD series where we do behind the scenes footage and all that…we’ll be back at it soon. Free T-Hilly…that’s my business partner. Make sure you check out my MySpace, www.myspace.com/maine4president…you can download the mixtape there. Young Money coming soon. We about to take over. Mack Maine for president!

Saigon & Statik Selektah: All In A Day’s Work (Album Review)

7/10

Tired of standing around in the shadows waiting for Just Blaze to get off his ass to release his loooong overdue debut disc, The Greatest Story Never Told (Amalgam Digital) Brooklyn emcee Saigon has spent his time beefing with Joe Budden, punching Prodigy in the face, appearing as himself on Entourage and pushing an album out in 24 hours with the help of producer Statik Selektah.

Taking only one day to produce an album seems like a short period of time considering Rap fans have been waiting since 2002 for Saigon to drop a debut, however while All In A Day’s Work shows signs of a rushed job at times, for the most part it proves to be the hype piece that Saigon needed to keep heads interested in what he has to say.

Saigon starts off nice on “To Be Told” where Statik laces him with a melancholy yet soulful soundscape where Sai smoothly takes aim at internet haters and bloggers: “Bang, upside your head / E-thug / I Control / Alt Delete you dead”.

Other standouts include throwback joint “The Rules” that comes complete with Saigon’s personal set of Rap rules that the game should abide by and a stuttering Busta Rhymes sample, as well as the synth, flute and scratch-driven “Spit” that showcases the hungry emcee’s battle skills.

The duo starts showing wear on tracks like“Prepare For Wear”. While the beat is a nice nod to greats like Preemo, Saigon just doesn’t do the track justice with his elementary school style lyrics, “I ain’t Blood / But still will *uck a Crip up / I ain’t Crip / but still will *uck a Blood up / So shut the *uck up!” Also on “My Crew”, Saigon falters over a cheesy female croon sample where he brags about how dope his crew is and how good he is in the sack.

No album is perfect, let alone one that was apparently pieced together in a day, and if All In A Day’s Work is any indication, then we should all expect to hear quite an intriguing “story” once Saigon’s official debut finally sees the light of day.

The Last Word: Farrakhan Makes Death Threats On Behalf of Michael Jackson, Timbaland Files a “Jealousy” Lawsuit, and a New Kardashian P###?

Happy Friday, young world. It’s been a whole five days and

things still keep keeping on. Whether it’s flood waters seriously threatening

residents of Fargo, North Dakota, Obama fighting critics while revealing his

plans to overcome the financial crisis or the continued saga surrounding that

damn Octomom, we made it through in one piece.

R.I.P. to Motown Records drummer Uriel Jones, who died

Tuesday (March 24) after complications from heart disease. Congratulations to

Bruce Willis, who married his girlfriend, model/actress Emma Heming on Saturday

(March 21). Shout out to Harrison Ford, who finally popped the question to

longtime girlfriend Calista Flockhart, legendary Motown singing group The

Miracles, who recently received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the

sounding boards for taking life one day at a time.

Here’s the lowdown…the Last Word for the week ending March

27, 2009

1. Timbaland Files Jealous Lawsuit Against Record Label

When it comes to achieving success, jealousy is a mother.

Even the most loyal friends can turn on each other if one blows up quicker than

those he or she came up with. But getting it from a record label is just…well,

here’s the story:

TMZ reports Timbaland is suing his label, Blackground

Records, amid claims that the label is jealous of his success as a producer. So

much so that Timbaland believes Blackground is intentionally making moves to

blackball him by contacting various labels and giving them a gang of reason as

to why they shouldn’t hire Mr. Mosley to construct beats for whatever project

they want him for.

Prior to producing for everybody from Duran Duran to Madonna

to Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake, Timbaland says he never heard anything negative

from Blackground when he initially decided to go from “performer” to “producer.”

The lawsuit, which was filed Wednesday (March 25) in Federal District Court,

further accuses Blackground of shorting Timbaland out of lots of money.

The beatmaker is seeking a release from his contract with

the label as well as unspecified damages. And we wonder why our legal system is

so messed up. But then again, stranger things have caused people to bring their

business to a courtroom near you. It truly makes you wonder…

2. Kim Kardashian Makes Hustler’s P### Spoof List

Looks like the ghost of Kim Kardashian’s p### past is coming

back to bite her. TMZ.com reports that the former Dancing With the Stars contestant and her family are very upset about a new

Kardashian-inspired p### video that’s coming out. The film, titled Keeping

it Up For the KardASSians, is a XXX spoof

of the clan’s#### E! reality show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

As a result, the Kardashians are “taking legal action”

against Hustler Entertainment and E! Entertainment is also considering taking

the company to task in light of the “whistly theme song” sounding similarly to

the one used on the reality show.

And if you’re still looking for more on Kim, she’s speaking

out about pictures of her from Complex

magazine. The photos, which came from a cover shoot for the publication, show

the future Mrs. Reggie Bush before the Photoshop revisions and after.

According to Kardashian, the pics are not that big of a

deal.

“So what: I have a little cellulite. What curvy girl

doesn’t?” the celebutante wrote on a blog on her official website, adding that

she was preparing for her fitness DVD at the time of the Complex photo shoot. “How many people do you think are

Photoshopped? It happens all the time!”

All the talk about the photos has inspired Kim to work out

even harder at the gym, which she sees as a good thing.

“I’m proud of my body and my curves and this picture coming

out is probably helpful for everyone to see that just because I am on the cover

of a magazine doesn’t mean I’m perfect.”

We know you’re not perfect Kim. You got flaws like everybody

else. How else could you explain grabbing a few headlines for doing nothing but

hanging out and being beautiful? So be proud of your curves and be proud that Hustler thought enough of you to do a freaky parody. After

all, it’s not easy perfecting the art of not being perfect.

3. Isaiah Washington Takes Delinquent Steps Towards

Homelessness

It’s one thing to get kicked off a hit TV show. It’s another

to get kicked out of your home. But leave it to Isaiah Washington to find

common ground between the two.

Media sources report that the former Grey’s Anatomy star and his wife, Jenisa, are facing the real

possibility of being homeless. The couple was served with a three-day notice

that was posted on their Venice, Calif. home by their landlord.

At the heart of all of this are allegations that the

Washingtons owe $100,000 in rent. Court documents filed Tuesday (March 24) in

Los Angeles Superior Court by Sandalwood Properties state the Washingtons

haven’t paid rent on their $20,000 a month residence since November. The couple

entered into a leasing agreement with the company on April 1, 2008 to purchase

the canal front property for $3,650,000. According to TMZ, Isaiah was having a

dispute with his financial guy and told his landlord he was in the process of

getting his money back so he could pay his rent.

The notice, which was posted Tuesday, stated the couple has

three days to pay what they owe or move out of the home. A hearing on the

matter is set for May 13. E! News reports that Sandalwood Properties is seeking

attorney’s fees and damages at a rate of $3,333.33 per day for each day after

April 1 that the family remains in the residence.

Apparently Isaiah has lived up to his namesake and has only

a pocket full of Washingtons for his troubles. What he needs to do is make

friends with Uncle Benjamin or find out whose face is on the G-note. Let’s hope

Mr. Washington doesn’t resort to standing on corner with a sign saying “I Will

Act for Shelter.” Or at least a value meal at the local eatery.

4. Michael Jackson Reps Bring Farrakhan into Auction

Drama

Despite being one of the most influential singers ever,

Michael Jackson doesn’t strike most people as someone who can make good on a

physical beatdown.

Unless, of course, you’re trying to auction off  “priceless and irreplaceable” items he

still has a soft spot for.

According to The Associated Press, the King of Pop sent his reps to persuade Julien’s

Auctions to cancel a planned sale of the crooner’s most prized possessions.

Items on the auction block include one of Jackson’s signature black fedoras,

two of his MTV Video Music Awards, costumes he wore on tour in the 1980s and

several crystal-encrusted gloves.

Although Jackson hired Julien’s to sell the items, he seems

to have had a change of heart.  In

short, Michael wants his stuff back. By any means necessary.

Which explains why Jackson filed a lawsuit this moth,

claiming he never gave permission to sell any of the items being auctioned off.

Julien’s filed their own court documents as the company argues that until last

month, Jackson gave them permission to sell his stuff. In a sworn statement,

Julien’s president Darren Julien detailed a Feb. 9 encounter at a LA based fast

food restaurant where he says MJ’s reps warned that if he didn’t cancel the event,

the auctioneers would be in danger “from Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam.”

Julien maintains that Jackson and his business manager

“wanted to give the message to us ‘that our lives are at stake and there will

be bloodshed,’” An attorney for Jackson’s MJJ Productions countered Julien’s

statement, as he labeled the efforts as “scurrilous attacks.” The case is

scheduled to go to court on April 3, while the auction is slated to take place

April 21.

Am I crazy or does Michael really have enough pull to drag

Min. Farrakhan into this personal drama, let alone utilize the Nation to issue

a threat on his behalf? That’s like the majority of beef between rappers. Just

wanna be startin’ something.

5. Jamie Foxx Plays the Opie Card for “Blame It” Video;

Plots Return to Stand Up

With his latest hit, “Blame It,” Jamie Foxx has a

certifiable way of getting people in the mood to have a good time. So what

better way to get that point across than to have an all-star line up of cameos

for the song’s video?

And while Foxx has his share of clout, it wasn’t the Oscar

winner who ultimately lured Forest Whitaker, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Samuel L.

Jackson to join T-Pain and Quincy Jones for the video. It was none other than

Ron Howard. In fact, the actor/director’s inclusion was so significant that

Jamie made sure any potential co-stars knew that Opie was down

“I was telling Mr. Howard, ‘Listen, how about you do a music

video?’ He’s like, ‘What?’ (I said), ‘Do this music video. I got a song coming

out, I think it’s going to be the song of the year and if you do it man, I

would appreciate it.’ And he said, ‘I’ll give you my number and call me,’” Foxx

told the AP as he revealed how the

cameos came through during Barack Obama’s inauguration in January.

“I said I’m going to ask Forest Whitaker and let him know

that you’re in, so I walked over and asked Forest and I asked Samuel and Samuel

was like, ‘What! Want me to do what?’ And I was like man it would be something

fun. And then I called Jake Gyllenhaal who’s my friend, I said, ‘Man, please

come down, Ron Howard’s going to be here.’” He said, “Listen Jamie, you don’t

have to lie to me, I’ll come down. You know I don’t come out and do things but

I’ll do it for you.”

Take note if you want a big name in your music video. Play

the Opie card. It really does work. And if you’re missing Jamie the comedian,

fear not.

The entertainer is gearing up to hit the stand up circuit

again as he’s writing jokes on Obama and other items making news. “I’m working

on all of my stuff with everything that’s going on in the news, so 2010 I’ll be

ready to get out there and get them jokes cracking.”

Looks like Happy Days really are here again.

In Other Words…

* Mary J. Blige has jumped on the Tyler Perry express. The

Hip-Hop Soul queen will star alongside Oscar nominated actress Taraji P. Henson

and Stomp the Yard’s Brian White in

Perry’s upcoming film I Can Do Bad All By Myself. The feature, which hits theaters September 11, will

is based on the hit stage play of the same name and includes the ever-present

Madea.

* Congratulations to gospel artist Canton Jones, who got his

first Dove Award nomination for Urban Album of the Year. The entertainer will

have some stiff competition as he competes against fellow nominees Kierra Sheard,

Kirk Franklin, Damita, and Deitrick Haddon.

* Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow, nor an alleged stalker

could keep Erykah Badu away from her fans at this year’s SXSW conference in

Texas. The songstress even took time out to let the public know that police

arrested the stalker last week via Twitter.

According to reports, the stalker had visited the

entertainer’s home with items such as blue shutters, a rabbit, a toucan (?!)

and a sketchbook sprawled on the grass outside the home.

Fortunately, authorities “pepper sprayed and cuffed” the

woman before anything stranger could happen. Badu ended up being late for her

show as she took time out to fill out a police report on the incident. I guess

Erykah should call Tyrone the next time somebody strange is hanging around her

neighborhood.**To get the latest AllHipHop Alternatives Features, follow us on Twitter @ www.twitter.com/AHHalternatives**

TODAY’S RUMORS!

THE DAILY TWO SENSE

What’s going on!? Friday is here and I am happy…oh so happy! I hope you had a safe and prosperous week and hope you get some time to chill over the weekend. I’m going to try to add some of the rumors going around, but I have some real interesting stuff right now.

I was looking at the news and I was appalled at what happened with NFL player Ryan Moats. The whole thing is below, but I just want to say that the police have got to be stopped. They are the biggest gangs in the nation. It is time for reform and change. The abuse of power and the brutality is just grossly out of control. Its really tiring.

On that note, think about the less fortunate. Think about this recession and what it really means. And think about this in a world perspective – not just ours. Click here for a song about the children.

GUCCI MANE BACK IN JAIL?

Gucci Mane is back in jail already? I don’t know, but I am getting word that Gucci Mane might already be in jail. Apparently he was supposed to be performing in Greenville, SC. Then everything got al messed up. I am hearing that last night there were text messages being forwarded around saying he got locked up this morning for domestic violence. Now, I don’t know what he did, but I hope that a certain video didn’t come back to haunt Gucci.

Ain’t No N***a Like…Dame Dash

Sitting in the audience last night inside the crowded 37 Street Arts Theater in Manhattan Off Broadway, I witnessed another great Damon Dash contribution, one that takes hip-hop culture to another significant level of accomplishment.        Sony Entertainment and Damon Dash produced, “Hip-Hop Monologues: the Life and the Mind of Jim Jones.” It was a fantastic show that portrays the evolution of hip-hop through the life Jim Jones.    I have to say, Damon Dash is a hip-hop genius who should never be underestimated. I have watched Dame’s growth, development and entrepreneurship over the years–not from a distance but from first hand observation. He was one of the creative forces behind Roc-a-fella Records, the architect of Rocawear Fashions, he’s made significant culturally relevant films with Dash Films and made other creative cultural installments through Dash Enterprises.  On another great note… He’s the only husband beside one other that I know, who spent a small fortune developing a major talent and women’s brand by supporting his women to the hilt!!       In our early days, Lyor Cohen and I used to shout at Damon and he would shout back. Then we would hug and go handle our business. That was our way of communicating.  Eventually, Lyor got old and I did more yoga and we both stopped shouting so much. Dame eventually made a few bad choices and a few things went sour.  We know haters love a man who’s been hot to catch a lil cold. Hate spreads. But like Tony Montana in “Scarface” said, “two qualudes ….. And they gonna love him again.”         So haters, it really doesn’t matter about your blogs from the sidelines.   Dame’s gonna help heat the economy again!! If he got hit by a truck today remember this, Dame’s a giver by nature. That’s why he has already received so much. He was the biz leader,  architect and one of the creative forces that built Rocafella Records into an empire. I remember that it was Damon who came on my office after we signed Jay-Z to be on the “Nutty Professor” soundtrack with a bag of cash ready to put his money where his mouth was :-).  But the record “Ain’t No n*gga” didn’t need his cash. It was a masterpiece and so was his artist, Jay-Z the greatest rapper of all time.  I saw countless displays of vision and faith all the way up to and beyond his struggle to convince everyone (no one believed) of the artistry in Kanye West. In this business, in order to be successful you have to have both business sense and great creative instincts (The latter is intuitive and cannot be learned).  Damon has once again proven that he is a great innovator with amazing vision.       Now, he is helping Jim Jones in a powerful manner that combines their collective experiences–from being born and raised in Harlem. They’ve taken that culture to Broadway theaters with a live hip-hop band, dance routines, multimedia use and the dynamics of theatrical stage presentation to show the struggles of life through the lens of hip-hop. I have 2 responses:1) Respect Dame’s gangster. 2) Go see the play immediately.

Chick Fill-Aye: The Ass or The Class?

Hip Hop and sex have always gone hand in hand.  However, the

carnal endeavors our culture has attached itself to have definitely become more

and more salacious over the years.  Like anything else, the more

you see it, more commonplace it becomes. With this in mind, could the image

of the Hip-Hop female as an insatiable, lolli-pop-licking, half-naked, open-legged hot pocket be affecting the careers of, or even the need

for femcees?  Ask yourself does anyone paying

attention to what she’s saying when she’s bent at the waist showing

you her assets?  Seriously.

I started thinking about this after I had the unfortunate

experience of Miss Brooke(Rick’s baby momma #2) and her homemade sex tape. It was a bit unremarkable

and lime green panties don’t look good on anyone, but I digress  While playing

voyeur, I found myself wincing in pain a few times.  Not at all the super-duper, hot XXX action going on, but at thinking how incredibly painful

taking a tat on the t## would have to be. In other words, I was

totally numb to the presentation in general. I checked some comments here and

there on sites that hosted the pleather pleasure minute and I found echoes of

my own disinterest.

Now, I’m not going to joke ole girl because I don’t know

where that video came from.  If she comes with that stolen, dusty shoe box-in the-closet story as most do, I feel bad for her.  This isn’t

really about adding insult to injury. But what I noticed is that we have become

so desensitized to the sexual presentation of women that even the act of

sex itself is no longer sexy enough. With sex being the premier

presentation of women in Hip-Hop, it is feasible to think that listening to a

woman rhyme as opposed to watching her strip is going to resurface as the

valuable commodity in the business of music?  I can’t say I’m

hopeful.

Women got caught up in the spirit of sexual independence and

empowerment, but knew not what road to travel to find that Nirvana.  In

our haste to be accepted on our own terms and be our own women and set our own rules,

we have exploited ourselves to the Nth degree. We didn’t walk that road

without help.  The folks in charge understand the power of a woman’s

sexuality probably more than the average woman does. If it were her voice that

made the money, women would be heard, rather than seen.  But

it’s not.  It is the span of her hips and the curl of her lips.

And in this construct, it’s not all that phenomenal. Word to Maya

Angelou.

There are thousands of these young women who believe

their ticket to a life of fame and fortune or at least their ticket to a life

without the burden of the financial aid office is tramp-stamped firmly on their a####. The competition is stiff and the number of competitors has never been

as large.  What do you do to make yourself stand out?  More than the

girl next to you will. Hence, the vixen mores in time will bottom out.

That’s the reason those Candy Girls will pull more views and book more

gigs than Rece Steel and company did. Folks will be tuning in religiously to see

if the downward spiral will take place on their watch.  I’ll give you odds on that one.

So what’s a rapping woman to do?  How can she be heard? I

really don’t know.  The noise emanating from all that T&A is

deafening and that depthless, blow up doll character is the one being allowed

to speak for us right now.  So if you are not willing to take 10 for the

top and 20 for the bottom, you probably won’t be seeing too much success.

But stick to your guns. Sometimes the good fight comes with great sacrifice.

Besides ole girl wearing the butt floss and pasties has a short

shelf-life.  Once that first dimple pops up on her thigh, she’s on

her way out.  Your voice however, is timeless.
