AHH Stray News: T.I. Settles Lawyer Bill

Atlanta rapper T.I. has settled the matter of an overdue lawyer’s bill for the mother of his sons, in compliance with a Fulton County judge’s ruling. The 28-year-old star appeared visibly bothered by the situation while testifying in an Atlanta court room Tuesday (January 6). He told the judge that his failure to pay the $8,000 in legal fees in November as previously ordered was an oversight, explaining that the order to pay was lost when he changed assistants. The payment is part of an ongoing child support case between T.I., born Clifford Harris, and LaShon Dixon, the mother of his eight and seven-year-old sons.

Beastie Boys to Reissue Paul’s Boutique

The Beastie Boys have confirmed via their official website the reissue of one of Hip-Hop’s greatest and most creative albums in Paul’s Boutique.

Initially received as a commercial disappointment in 1989, Paul’s Boutique went on to amass a strong following due to the Dust Brother’s prodigious and intricate sampling techniques, and the savvy, pop culture heavy lyrics of the Beasties.

Ten years after its release, the album was certified double platinum.

The LP remains a masterpiece in the art of sampling, and due to the progression of clearance laws will likely never be duplicated.

The project preceded the genre altering copyright lawsuit of singer Gilbert O’Sullivan (Grand Upright Music) vs. Biz Markie (Warner Bros. Records).

Sullivan’s winning judgment required all Hip-Hop artists afterward to pay clearance fees and relinquish song publishing rights for samples, effectively diminishing Hip-Hop tracks featuring more than 2 samples.

Paul’s Boutique boasts over 100 samples throughout its 15 tracks.

The memorable final song, “B-Boy Bouillabaisse,” is a 9 section suite consisting of over 20 samples ranging from Bob Marley and Pink Floyd to Johnny Cash and Jimi Hendrix.

Jay-Z and producer Bigg D used “B-Boy Bouillabaisse” as the backbone for “Hello Brooklyn 2.0,” the bass-heavy, Lil Wayne assisted track off of 2007’s American Gangster.

Although Amazon lists the reissue for January 27, the Beastie Boys have not confirmed the release date, or what bonuses the reissue will contain.

The remastering of Paul Boutique’s will coincide with the album’s 20th anniversary.

The Last Word: Aubrey O’Day Paid $500k to Pose Nude, Voletta Wallace Talks Lil’ Kim, Amy Winehouse with a Clothing Line, Rihanna and Chris Brown Engaged?

What’s life like, world travelers? It’s the first official

This all brings me to…the Last Word for the week ending Jan.

1.  Mariah

Carey Celebrates New Year $1 Million Ways; Gets Made Up for Art

Ah, the New Year. That time where we make resolutions to

lose weight, quit whatever vice we have, pay our debts and make more money. And

the stars are no different. Look at Mariah Carey, who got a jump-start on

everybody as she got royally paid recently.

The Sun reports that

Carey collected $1 million for putting in a hard night’s work performing four

songs at a private New Year’s Eve party for the son of Libyan dictator Colonel

Gaddafi.

Not only did partygoers bring in the ‘09 with Mimi, but also

Jay-Z and Timbaland made cameos to make it a celebration to remember at the

Nikki Beach Club on Caribbean island St Barts. Even Beyoncé showed up for the

occasion, but she reportedly did not take the stage with Jigga.

And if that isn’t enough, Mariah made such an impression on

Jason Mecier that the mosaic portrait artist put his talent to use by creating

a portrait of Mrs. Cannon from various make-up products like lipstick, nail

varnish bottles and eyeliner. That makes perfect sense, considering we have

never seen Mariah Carey without make-up. Do we even want to?

2. Voletta Wallace Shares Notorious Memories of Angela

Bassett, Gravy and Lil’ Kim

With a week to go before the highly anticipated Biggie

Smalls biopic Notorious hits the big

screen, fans are counting down the days to see if the movie does justice to the

legend of Christopher Wallace. For the rapper’s mother, Voletta Wallace, there

was only one person she wanted to play her in the film.

“…If there was anyone who was going to play Voletta Wallace,

I wanted Angela Bassett,” she told Essence.com. “I read the script and sent it

out to her on tape to get my accent down pat. She was very gracious and humble,

and I was honored to have her.”

While Ms. Wallace adored Bassett, the real test came with

the actor who would play her son, Jamal “Gravy” Woodard. The concern instantly

became a moot point upon her first meeting with the entertainer.

“When he walked into the room, his whole demeanor was

Christopher and I knew. I was in the corner and he never saw me and I said,

‘That’s my son there,’” said Wallace who didn’t need to see anybody else for

the role. “There were days I had goose bumps just watching him. I was always

close to my son and now I’m close with Jamal for the respect that he had for my

son. Believe me, to fill Christopher’s shoes wasn’t easy. That’s a size 13.”

Judging by the previews and commercials, Notorious looks to be an interesting peek inside the world of

B.I.G. And while reports have surfaced of Lil’ Kim’s criticism of the project,

Ms. Wallace expressed a desire to chat with the rapstress about the

relationship she shared with Biggie.

“I would love to speak to Lil’ Kim, because I need to ask

more about this love relationship because I really didn’t like the way he

treated her and I’m praying that that’s not it,” said Wallace. “Only she can

answer those questions. She’s a sweet girl and I didn’t think she deserved to be

treated the way he treated her, if that’s the case.”

Judge for yourself how B.I.G. treated Lil’ Kim when Notorious hits theaters Jan. 16.

3. Amy Winehouse, fashion designer?

Let’s see. You’ve put out two critically acclaimed albums,

notched five Grammys and spent 2008 keeping drug dealers and tabloid

photographers and writers gainfully employed. What’s the next thing to conquer?

Fashion, of course.

And Amy Winehouse knows it. Media sources report the

embattled songstress is in negotiations with Fred Perry to design clothes for

the clothing brand. Winehouse, who is known to wear Fred Perry shirts, seems to

be serious about this as she has a few designs already sketched and ready to

show.

The singer made her feelings known recently as she

reportedly told anyone who would listen about her fashion dreams in a hotel bar

in St Lucia. While no information on when the line will launch is available,

bets will placed on whether or not Winehouse even remembers having the

conversation about a potential clothing line when the time comes. Hey, if it

keeps her in rehab, let’s all buy a shirt!

4. Tyrese Invites Fans Into His “Love Circle”

With this summer’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen coming into theaters, it looks to be a nice 2009 for

one Tyrese Gibson, who returns to the big screen with the warring Autobots and

Decepticons. And why not add to the imminent success by lending a helping hand

to music and movie fans that have been in his corner?

WENN reports the entertainer is adding to his string of

accomplishments with a new telephone hotline. The new venture will allow fans

to call 818-287-8968 to register to receive words of wisdom from Gibson.

“It’s a free number. I’m not making any money off of it,”

admitted the former model, who called the new hotline the “love circle.” “When

I have advice and information and anything that’s going on in my life, I’m able

to call this number and verbally leave a message, which goes directly into my

fans’ in-box on their cell phones.”

Although he doesn’t know what his next message will be,

Gibson shared that what he says “always comes from a real place as he is quick

to point out that the love circle is his way of  “telling the fans thank you for the years of supporting me

and all my career moves.”

“I can’t cut a check and pay everybody’s bills, but I can

give people knowledge and information that I have that’s contributed to my

success,” the model/actor/musician stated. It’s a crapshoot though whether or

not you will be receiving messages from Tyrese or Black Ty on any given day.

5. Beyoncé Enlists YouTube for Obsessed Research

Playing an embattled and drug addicted singing icon in Cadillac

Records may have caught fans off guard, but

Beyoncé shows no signs of playing it safe as she portrays a the wife of a man

who is stalked by a woman he works with in the upcoming film Obsessed.

If the film’s trailer is any indication, then we’ll be

seeing another side of Bey when she takes on the stalk to protect what she has.

To tap into her inner hulk, Mrs. Carter prepped by watching videos of women

battling one another on YouTube.

“We did look at girl fights on YouTube,” the film’s director

Steve Shill told WENN. “There’s a lot of hair pulling, shouting, and rolling

around on the ground. We didn’t really want to do that.” I’m sure men

everywhere will disagree with that decision. Obsessed hits theaters this April.

6. Aubrey O’Day Gears Up for Rumored Playboy Close-Up

Not one to rest on her laurels, former Danity Kane member

Aubrey O’Day is already striking while the iron is hot with a rumored

appearance in Playboy magazine.

According to reports, the singer allegedly received $500,000

for doing a naked photo shoot for the publication. The offer to pose, which

came from Playboy founder Hugh Hefner,

seemed to be too good to refuse, a source told the New York Daily

News.

“Aubrey’s making about $500,000 to drop trou. For that kind

of money, she was like ‘Why not?’” the source said about the diva, who created

a buzz for her au natural self after posing sexy for Complex magazine. As it stands now, neither Playboy nor reps for O’Day are confirming the shoot, which

may feature several lion cubs. The cubs will be nicknamed D Woods, Aundrea,

Shannon, and Dawn.

In Other Words…

*  Make way for

India.Arie. The Grammy-winning singer is gearing up for the release of her new

upcoming album, Testimony: Vol. 2, Love & Politics. The follow-up to Arie’s 2006 opus Testimony: Vol.

1, Life and Relationship will feature the Musiq Soulchild-assisted “Chocolate

High” as well as “Therapy” with Gramps Morgan. Both singles are available now

on iTunes. Testimony: Vol. 2, Love & Politics is slated to hit stores Feb. 10.

* This year’s NAACP Image Awards looks to be wide open for

Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson and Alicia Keys. The women are nominated for

outstanding female music artist and for best music video as well as supporting

film actress. Bey could take the film award home for her work in Cadillac

Records while Keys and Hudson are in

contention for their respective work in The Secret Life of Bees. Best picture nominees include Cadillac

Records and The Secret Life of

Bees as well as Miracle at St.

Anna, Seven Pounds and Tyler Perry’s the Family That Preys.

* With a bunch of films to his credit, you would think that

Spike Lee is swimming in dough. But to hear the filmmaker tell it, he’s in

shallow water compared to other entertainers. “It’s not rich rich,” he told

Britain’s Observer. “Rich is Spielberg.

Lucas. Gates. Steve Jobs. Jay-Z. Bruce Springsteen. I’m not complaining. But

that’s money. Will Smith. Oprah Winfrey – that’s a ton of money. Compared

to them, I’m on welfare.”

* Will Chris Brown and Rihanna jump the broom? Things seem

to point in that direction as the rumor mills is in full swing over pictures of

Ri-Ri sporting a big diamond ring on her wedding finger. Rihanna was also seen

with said accessory at Elton John’s New Year’s Eve party at the O2 Arena in

London. Needless to say the rock commanded its own attention among the party

people.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Ne-Yo Ethers Haters! Lil’ Wayne Goes Rock!

DISCLAIMER:

All content within this section is pure rumor and generally have no factual info outside of what the streets have whispered in our ear. Read on.

TODAY’S RUMORS!NE-YO HAS THAT ETHER!I just got off the email with my kinfolk Lakia from Young Black and Fab and she gave me the Ne-Yo scoop, where he responds to the hate against him. Y’all gonna make him fight Yung Berg.

One rule of being a gentleman is

to keep your cool and composure at all cost, but right about now I

gotta loosen up this tie and take off this expensive suit jacket and

talk to the people for a minute. The haters especially.

Pardon my french, but what the f### is wrong with y’all!?! Are you

so desperate for an R&B bad guy that you gotta find a way to create

one in me??

Okay, the comment about light skinned babies…….an obvious joke, maybe not a good joke, but clearly a joke. Y’all REALLY took that serious!?!

I understand that a hater’s job is to hate, clearly. But it’s when

people start feeding in to what a hater is saying that something must

be addressed.

The whole gay thing. For goodness sake it’s been 4 years!!!! Y’all still on that huh?

The whole “boys” song, and the song “go over there”. See this is what

happens when people steal. These songs were clearly written for women.

Had you been patient, you would have heard them the way they were

supposed to be heard, with the voice of the intended artist on em’. But

noooo, someone gets a hold of these demos and suddenly everybody

forgets that I write songs for women. Riiight.

I tell People Magazine

that Young Jeezy’s crib is right next to mine and that once I saw him

in there from across the way. I then make a JOKE about him maybe not

wanting to walk around naked in his crib with the shades up cause the

buildings are THAT close to each other, and that AIN’T something I care

to see. Suddenly, everybody thinks I said I saw Young Jeezy in his crib

naked when, NEVER ONCE did I say anything like that.

I mean come on people. Is this really what you’re gonna spend time on??

Will you not be satisfied until I truly become this a###### you so desperately want me to look like??

Here’s my stand on the whole thing:

I’m NOT gay, I’m NOT prejudice to anyone, I DID NOT get stomped out by

Jim Jones or anyone else, I’m NOT engaged, I’M NOT STUPID. And to

anyone that INSISTS on thinking that any of these things are true……F**K

YOU. To the haters….find some new material please!!! It’s 2009, our

president is black!!! Time for change. To everyone else……I love you to

death, thanx for all your support. WE PLATINUM ROUND HERE!!!!!

Much love, and see you at the grammy’s. Check the suit…..it’s gonna be TROUBLE!!!

LIL’ WAYNE HAS A SURPRISE FOR YALL ON CARTER 4

How many of you are waiting for Carter 4? Well, here is a rumor that may or may not shock you. Rumor has it the Million CD Man is looking to recreate the magic. He’s already working on the Next Carter and its allegedly going to be a full rock CD. I mean, Wayne has strummed a guitar a few times even though the play has been suspect. He’s also gotten down with rock types like Kevin Rudolf. He even dresses like one. So, maybe the cipher will be complete on the next one.

NATURI NAUGHTON SPEAKS UP ABOUT LIL KIM’S COMMENTS

As you full well know, Lil’ Kim has not been pleased that Naturi Naughton was the choice to play her in Notorious. But, AllHipHop interviewed the on-screen version of Lil Kim and here is what she said:

Anyway, I have yet to see the movie, but most of the AHH staff has and they told me that the scenes with Naturi are hot! She does some straight up nude scenes and they get it in. Also, you may not remember but Lil Kim had nothing to do with the movie so that raises questions about some of the perceptions in the movie regarding her. Also, there is a scene where somebody beats somebody’s a$$ (*not trying to spoil it) and they say in real life that was Kim. In the movie, it was a random chick.

MS. WALLACE COMES CLEAN ON LIL’ KIM

Essence got the essence about Kim from Ms. Wallace:

“There were things about him that I never knew that I wanted to see for myself on film. I saw a side of my son that I heard of but I haven’t accepted … I’m angered by certain things, disappointed and shocked. So this film taught me tolerance and to be less critical … I would love to speak to Lil’ Kim, because I need to ask more about this love relationship because I really didn’t like the way he treated her and I’m praying that that’s not it. Only she can answer those questions. She’s a sweet girl and I didn’t think she deserved to be treated the way he treated her, if that’s the case.”

Its pretty odd they have Kim so fully represented in the movie but they didn’t talk to her at all.

MYA IS PREGNANT?

According to Atlanta Gossip, Mya might be pregnant with her first child! They received a call this morning from a reliable source. Now, I don’t know who that source could be, but they sure need to tip off who the father is. You might not recall, but I have love for Mya. Here is my dedication!

THE GAME IS ON THE WAY BACK?

You know what? The Game is one slick dude, man! Dr. Dre is arguably the best producer ever in Hip-Hop, but there are a couple others. There is DJ Premiere and then there is Timbaland. Yea…I said it. TIMBALAND. Here is the rumor. I am hearing the The Game will have Timbaland as the executive producer of his next CD, which he’s reportedly working on. The Game sort of got lukewarm reviews for LAX. Maybe that’s why he is allegedly calling his new CD “Global Warming.” I also heard that Cool and Dre are to be on the album very heavy with the beats. The Game remains one of my favorite rappers and I hope to see him come out stronger. To this day, I think Dr. Dre needs Game on Detox. Yes. I said NEEDS.

A MOMENT OF ZEN…50 CENT TO BUY DEATH ROW?

Man, I can’t keep up with the catalogue of Death Row. It’s kind of like Yung Berg’s chain! It just seems to be on tour or something. Anyway, I heard that 50 Cent might be looking to buy the whole thing. I don’t know why Interscope doesn’t own this, but if 50 did, how ill would that be? Anyway, I think I heard that Suge was out selling new “old” verses from Tupac.

A MOMENT OF ZEN…T.I., JEEZY AND LUDACRIS?

You know, the era of the super group is so over. I’m kinda old school. When I think of Super Group, I’m thinking Wu Tang, Death Row, The Hit Squad and whatever. But in 2008, the super group gets redefined. A source tells me that there may be a super group forming between T.I., Ludacris, and Young Jeezy. This comes from the inside of the Def Jam building, but I’m not sure I believe it. Including T.I. sort of invalidates everything. He’s about to go to jail so this would have to be after he gets out of the bing. IF there is some reality to this, I would be very hype to hear them do this. Each is on top of his game, but I definitely feel people are sleeping on the Luda CD. Get that!

NE-YO HAS SEEN JEEZY NAKED?

I was checking out Hip-Hop chronicle and I came across this story:

R&B star Ne-Yo has admitted to catching Young Jeezy naked.

After moving into an exclusive Atlanta neighbourhood, Ne-Yo has discovered he lives next door to rapper Young Jeezy.

He lives so close that he admitted to have seen the rapper naked.

Speaking to America’s People Magazine, Ne-Yo said

“Just chillin’ one day, I was like, ‘Is that… Jeezy? “I hit him up: ‘Yo, you probably shouldn’t walk around naked – I can see you.”

Last year may have been the ’Year Of The Gentleman’ but it seems 2009 is the ‘year of the voyeur’ for Ne-Yo.

ILLSEED’S QUICKIES

Soooooo…The dude that’s beefing with Yung Berg is not only Master P’s nephew, but he’s C-Murder’s son, I heard. Why wouldn’t he call himself Young Murder or Young Miller. He’s from a legendary family already.

R. Kelly is officially divorced after 11 years of marriage. I wonder if she writes a Superhead book. I’d read it. Anyway, they have three kids together.

Click here to see the pics from the Notorious premiere and the afterparty.

Hearing Solange might try to whooryde on Janet for Janet saying she might whooryde on Beyonce.

Click here for the new Lil Wayne song!

Jay-Z and Live Nation are going to have a fat concert, but Obama has pleaded for them to NOT have it during the inaugural celebration. Uh…Jay is getting his money.

Can somebody pimp slap Anne Coulter for me? 5 stacks!

I don’t know what JD is up to, but I heard he is secretly still messing with Janet Jackson. Maybe they need some privacy?

Want to see a Black dude cyberbully a lil White kid? Click here!

Angela Simmons broke up with her man because she wasn’t giving up the goodies til marriage. Somebody thought they were going to get some of that, but I’m not mentioning the rapper’s names.

As EnVogue said, “Neva gonna get it.” But I’ma get my girl. I am about to announce my new baby boo for 09! Later Kelly!

LISA BONET GOES IN!

If you didn’t know, Lisa Bonet had her new baby. She named him: Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa. That’s a mouthful, Lisa! I didn’t know, but Lisa changed her name to Lilakoi Moon! Anyway, a fan explained the name of her new baby:

He was born on the stormest, rainy night.

so Nakoa(warrior)…Mana(strength/spirit) Kaua(rain) po(dark)…

The name was always going to be Nakoa-Wolf, but Jason did the research on first middle name, 2nd middle name as you know is Jason’s.

I know her daughter Zoe is like, “WHEW, I dodged that bullet!”

EPIC FAIL OF THE DAYStay away from drugs, kids.SIGNS THE WORLD IS COMING TO AND END

So a reader sends me to the San Francisco Chronicle site for article that tells the back history of Oscar Grant II: the person. Click here to read it. But we were there to look at the comments as it relates to the recent slaying of Oscar Grant III in Oakland. Now, here is what I have to say. Oscar Grant could have killed an infant on New Year’s morning and it would be wrong for the cops to shoot him in the back while he was unarmed, subdued and facedown on the ground. That’s real talk. In America, there’s something call due process (look that up if you are clueless). I thought I would share how the real people think, some of them.

“I guess it was inconvenient to mention that this guy was a violent repeat offender felon who’d just gotten out of prison for a gun and drug crime. Why does the paper spin him as a church going innocent?”

-dogpatchtruth

“While the officer should be held responsible for his actions, remember this never would have happend if these so called “men” weren’t acting like a bunch of rowdy Junior High kids, and picking fights on BART that night.”

-jeffconway

“He should have thought about his daughter before deciding to run wild on a train with other fools. it does not matter that he was shot intentionally or by accident the end result was the same. the protesters should protest all of the black on black murders instead of the rare white on black killing.”

-eastoak

“This guy dies in a thug-fest at 2:00 a.m. on a BART platform in Oakland that was serious enough that the police had to break it up. I did not see in the article what this guy did for a living….$25 million lawsuit to compensate the family for lost potential income???”

– beenderdundat

This is a comment that echoes how I feel on a very emotionless, removed level.

“This was a nice story, may Mr. Grant rest in peace. Also to his family and friends he was a good young man, wasn’t a saint but he didn’t deserve to die this way. As for you bloggers who only have negative things to say about a man who was shot in the back handcuffed and killed. There is a special place in hell for you cause it shows you have no heart probably not even a soul either!!!”

-Ladydee_97 (Thanks Lady Dee)

I picked the top 4 ones that I didn’t think were racist, but just very ignorant – indicative of what most people feel. What can you say? People are so self-righteous that he’s to blame for the bullet going through him, and then bouncing off the floor through his lung and killing him. Damn, you Oscar! Why’d you kill yourself like that and blame the cops? Idiots!

Kraftwerk Co-Founder Leaves Group

Florian Schneider, founding member of the seminal group Kraftwerk, has confirmed his departure from the band.

On their official website, Kraftwerk verified the news and acknowledged Schneider’s invaluable contributions to their sound.

“Florian Schneider leaves Kraftswerk after a 40 year partnership with Ralf Hutter,” the group stated in a prepared statement. “This partnership has generated an incredible music and huge advances in music technology.”

Kraftwerk holds a revered and lasting place in Hip-Hop culture through their classic songs “Trans-Europe Express” and “Numbers.”

The tracks were sampled and reworked by Afrika Bambaataa to create another classic in 1982’s “Planet Rock,” one of Hip-Hop’s first hits that brought the culture international recognition.

The continued influence of Kraftwerk’s innovation and experimentation with synthesizers, robotized vocals, and machine-derived drum rhythms heavily contributed to the birth of electro and house music.

“Florian is a great musician, always seeking the perfect sound through technology,” Kraftwerk stated. “[He] Refined and perfected sounds and vocoders to impossible levels of perfection.”

Other Hip-Hop artist who have found inspiration from Kraftwerk’s style include: Jay-Z (“It’s Alright,” “Sunshine”), De La Soul (“Ghetto Thang”), Kool G. Rap & DJ Polo (“Rhymes I Express”), Mc Lyte (“Cha Cha Cha”), and JJ Fad (“Supersonic”).

Kraftwerk closed out 2008 with a tour featuring remaining members Ralf Hutter, Fritz Hilpert, Henning Schmitz, and Stefan Pfaffe.

Queen Pen Appeals for Tougher Domestic Violence Laws

Grammy winner and domestic violence survivor Queen Pen will host a press conference/rally on Friday January 16 to advocate tougher domestic violence legislation in New York.

Last year, the state’s Criminal Justice division released statistics supporting evidence that 55% of female homicides are due to a domestic issue.

Last January Queen Pen, born Lynise Walters, was severely beaten and rendered unconscious in a home invasion incident with an ex-boyfriend.

The brutal beating resulted in the rapper nearly being killed and required reconstructive surgery.

The ex-boyfriend and father of two of Queen Pen’s children remains at large. Before the last attack, Queen Pen had secured five orders of protections since 2005.

“It took 31 minutes for police to respond to a 911 call,” Queen Pen told AllhipHop.com of the incident. “If my life is taken away or I can’t provide for my children, who’s going to take care of them?”

Also joining Queen Pen for the rally is Persia of VH1’s White Rapper Show, who has a court date pending for carrying an unregistered firearm, allegedly for protection against a violent ex.

“I was involved in an abusive relationship which led to him trying to kill me,” Persia explained. “I felt I had no choice but to protect myself. I’m advocating in hopes that the laws can be in favor to the abused and we won’t have to fear for our lives any longer.”

Supporters that will be present for the rally include NY Senator Eric Adams, Assembly Member Hakeem Jeffries, Executive VP of the NY Board of Rabbis-Rabbi Joseph Potasnik, and retired Knick/activist John Starks.

New Hip-Hop artist Lil Mama and Greg King (father of the late Julian King, nephew of Jennifer Hudson, and representing the Hudson-King Foundation) will serve as special invited guests.

The event commences January 16 at 4Pm at the Denim Lounge, located on 1223 Bedford Ave in Brooklyn.

Attack Of The Attention W#####: YouTubing Rapper Slappers

So the goon patrol has gone digital, huh?  Taking

a cue from MC Bin Ladin they have dialed up the world

wide web and taken responsibility for every crime that has occurred in

the last fifty years.  I’m sure sooner or later

some dude holding a .22 and wearing a full face stocking cap in front

of his auntie’s house, mean mugging through the monitor is going to

lead us to Jimmy Hoffa.  As insipid as it is

horrifying, the trend has grown to the point where folks who haven’t

committed a crime more serious than jay-walking want to get on the

bandwagon. I’m sure this isn’t what they had in mind when they invented the internet.

Chain

snatching, home invading and car jacking masked marauders are tired of

standing in the shadows and behind the bushes not getting their just

due.  Rappers have been taking responsibility for

all sorts of horrendous behavior recently to the sublime delight of

those who actually did it.  I guess the YouTube

bandits can’t rap, but still long to be part of the most recent and

fastest growing Hip-Hop trend since skinny pants.  And we all know the dregs of the Hip-Hop Nation are not about to stuff into some cherry-red nut-huggers.

I thought about this as I surfed YouTube the other night looking for footage of Katt Williams getting slapped up in Detroit.  I

didn’t find any, but what I did find was someone taking responsibility

for slapping Katt Williams up in Detroit. I had seen the picture of the

dude who really did it, so I knew this wasn’t him. His presentation was

more pathetic theater than confession.  However, just the fact that he thought it would be cool to take responsibility for an assault he didn’t commit was troubling.

So what do we do about this?  It’s true that the more the site visitors respond to this nonsense, the more the wave will grow.  Wanting to be part of a respected group, the need to belong is a serious human craving.  It’s within that desire that a choice must be made.  These dudes are simply making the wrong choice.  Will pulling the plug make it go away?  No.  You simply won’t be watching the bad behavior unfold.

For some, infamy is way better than positive fame.  And

in a genre where being notorious is way sweeter than being an

upstanding citizen, I don’t think we could have expected anything

different. You see, this has very little to do with Hip Hop.  We are simply the most obvious recipients.  In

a world where plenty of young men are forced to travel the path to

manhood alone or without a helpful support system, they scratch and

grab at any opportunity to demonstrate their sense of right of passage.  For some that’s getting an education, being a decent father or a law abiding citizen.  For others, it’s robbing, stealing and mugging. Yup; buggin.

Then to take it down yet another notch, every once in a while one of these numbskulls is telling the truth.  Yes, folks have actually been prosecuted with their Myspace page or Youtube account.   So I say let ’em get their digital confessions on.  At the very least it will make for an interesting addition to one of those stupidest criminal shows.

There are a million and one places to point the finger of blame for this; society, parents, the media, the schools, etc.  Is it that serious?  I believe so.  People are massively impressionable whether they wish to admit it or not.  Their

choice to follow the bad behavior, even in their two dimensional

e-lives speaks volumes to their three dimensional lives and how

they choose to live them.  I mean, can you

imagine someone with some common sense and a decent head on their

shoulders wanting to create a theivin’ ass alter ego to garner attention

from a gang of folks they will never meet?  Not I.

So

yes, we could easily roll our eyes and dismiss all these YouTubin’

folks who aren’t really criminals, but just playing one on the internet.  But

then we would probably have to dismiss all of our favorite

snow-blowing, cap-popping, cookie-stealing studio thug monster rappers.  We would also have to shut down all the ISP accounts of the e-thugs who feel the keyboard is mightier than the video.  After we do all that my friends, I’m not sure who will be left.

Timbaland Denies 1st Quarter Shock Value 2 Release

Timbaland has confirmed that while there will be a follow-up to the platinum 2007 album Shock Value, fans should not expect the super producer’s third studio offering anytime soon.

In recent weeks, tracklistings and alleged song collaborations have littered the internet, prompting Timbaland to clarify the anticipated album’s current status.

“Man, I’m so in demand that people are making up albums just to try and keep up with me,” Timbaland joked. “What people are reading out there is nonsense. I’m only just starting to think about Shock Value 2, just recording and putting some ideas together, so there are definitely no song titles, release date, or any other news related to the album.”

The album’s delay is largely due to the massive amount of work the producer completed in 2008.

In just 12 months, Timbaland has worked extensively with Madonna, Keri Hilson, Brandy, Flo Rida, Jennifer Hudson, Pussycat Dolls, and various other acts spanning all genres of music.

The Virginia native has also mapped out much of 2009 with upcoming collaborations with former protégé Ginuwine, 50 Cent, Sean Paul, Missy Elliott, Busta Rhymes, and Letoya Luckett.

Even with his demanding workload, Timbaland promises fans to expect the album when the time is right.

“When Shock Value 2 finally does finally exist in the real world, everybody’s gonna hear it from me,” he added.

To date, the first Shock Value album has sold 3.5 million copies worldwide on the strength of the #1 singles “The Way I Are” and “Apologize.”

Timbaland’s latest project is production for Chris Cornell’s forthcoming Scream album, due out in the Spring.

Shontelle: More than the Next Rihanna

Barbados has proven to the music industry that it is more than the typical island scene, dancing natives and the amazing Grass Skirt Posse. Your favorite deejay most likely played Alison Hind’s version of “Roll” in their Caribbean set which has been a grand success since it hit the airwaves. What’s more amazing is that the songwriter behind “Roll” is the same talent singing “T-Shirt” that has gained popularity as of late.

Meet SRC Records’ newest protégé, Shontelle. She’s intelligent, driven and inspired by Ariel from The Little Mermaid. It’s even been said that she told Rihanna to drop and give her ten in Cadet Camp during their childhood. The Bajan sensation had an interesting journey between family and education, but her calling into music helped her overcome her dilemma. With her new album Shontelligence in stores now, the songstress showcases her versatility in Pop, R&B and Caribbean flavor, but don’t worry. She’s not another Rihanna.

AllHipHop.com Alternatives: How excited are you about your album being out?

Shontelle: Super excited! My album is out now and I am ecstatic!

AHHA: Let’s talk about your background for a minute. Who were some of the artists that you were influenced by coming up?

Shontelle: Oh man, so many! From local Soca and Calypso artists from home, Bob Marley, my parents listened to Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway and a lot of Motown [music]. I grew up on that stuff too. I really loved The Fugees, Missy Elliot and Timbaland when I was growing up. I was into a lot of Hip-Hop when I was younger, but then I also love artists like Prince and Sting. I remember when I went through this real heavy Biggie phase. I moved on from that to Jay-Z. I listen to so many different styles of music. I’ve been influenced by a lot of different genres.

AHHA: So you have an Aunt that’s actually a famous singer in your hometown?

Shontelle: Yeah! [laughs] My aunt is Kim Derrick!

“Gimme Some” – Kim Derrick

AHHA: How influential was she in your career?

Shontelle: Very. She used to have me practicing Michael Jackson songs when I was younger and practicing the moves and everything! She was pretty much the only person in my family when I was growing up who was encouraging me to do music. My parents and the rest of my family, for the most part, were old fashioned. They didn’t think that music was a viable career and it was too risky. They were scared of all the things that I might be exposed to. They weren’t that keen on it, but [my aunt] would be the one to push me. She was really crucial as far as keeping me motivated and keeping me wanting to do music.

AHHA: How supportive is your family now that you’re signed and have an album out?

Shontelle: My parents are very excited and very supportive for sure. This started even before I got signed. Before all this happened, I wrote a song called “Roll.” I was really doing well at home and at that time I had proven to them that I could still balance school and still do music. They were worried that I would drop out of school or that I wouldn’t care about school anymore, so I think they started to feel more comfortable by then. Now they understand that I made up my mind that this is what I wanted to do. They’re 200% supportive now.

AHHA: What was it about music as an artist that was so appealing to you than you staying at the University of the West Indies studying Entertainment Law and taking it somewhere?

Shontelle: I just had this thing. I had to watch Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock and anything that was musical and that had singing into it.

Then I remember watching The Little Mermaid and … I could relate to how in the movie she always has to try to go against her father and it reminded me so much of my situation, or your family wanting you to do one thing and you want to do something else.

It didn’t help that she had Sebastian the Crab and he was West Indian. [laughs] I could really relate to all the songs and that’s when I really started to tell myself, “You know what? I think I want to do this. I can’t do anything else. I just can’t.”

I would find ways no matter what it took. Even all the way when I was still in school I would lie to my parents all the time. I was the opposite of other kids. Where kids would say, “I’m going to the studio” or “I’m going to study” so they could go to the club, I would tell my parents, “I’m going to the club” or “I’m going to a sleepover” and I’d be in the studio. I didn’t want them to know I was working on music because they would tell me, “No.” I just did anything, anything that I had to do. I couldn’t help it.

AHHA: Let’s talk about Shontelligence. You have your hit single “T-Shirt” which is a Pop song. It shows your diversity since you have that Caribbean element. Was that a conscious decision?

Shontelle: That was a very conscious decision. When I first met SRC, they originally wanted me because I was a songwriter. They kind of put me on the spot one day, brought out a guitar and said, “We really think you’re one talented artist.” First we couldn’t make up our minds what direction we were going. At first I was going to be a female Sean Paul or maybe be a female Collie Buddz or a female Damian Marley. It was going to be a lot more Reggae and songs from the islands, but then I started telling them, “I have more than that. Why don’t you give me a chance to just showcase everything that I can do?”

They were actually cool and they let me do it. We started working on different songs and that’s when everyone started to get really excited that I was so versatile. It made me think of some of my favorite artists that I look up to like Wyclef and Lauryn Hill where they could do the mainstream sound and they could also flip it and give you a little West Indian flavor here or there. I thought if they could do it, I could definitely do it, so why not give it a shot.

AHHA: How hands on were you on your project?

Shontelle: Oh yeah! I was really hands on with my album. Actually, there are only three songs on the album that I did not write. All the others I either wrote or co-wrote. I was very hands on for sure.

“Roll It” – Shontelle

AHHA: What do you want your audience to get out of your music?

Shontelle: What I would love for everyone to get is that my music is very real and I put a lot into it. It’s a “feel good” album. You can bet that everything you hear on the album is all my thoughts. It’s everything I’m feeling, it’s my experiences, it’s all me. I think it’s an album that’s really enjoyable because different age groups can relate to it.

There are songs on there for the club, there are songs on there for when you feel bad and you just want to mope about something, there’s feel good songs like “Battle Cry” and songs that empower women like “Superwoman” and “Roll” also. Those are the things that are real important to me and I’m glad I got the chance that I got to do all of that on my album. It’s such a versatile and dynamic album that I think it will appeal to so many people. I just know people are going to enjoy it. It’s very edgy.

AHHA: Has anyone ever told you that your style is similar to Rihanna’s?

Shontelle: I’ve heard people say that they think that our style of music is similar, but I don’t really know how to respond to that. There are so many Pop artists, R&B artists and Hip-Hop artists and you can make all the comparisons that you want. I think our music is very different. I think we are two very different artists. Our styles of delivery are very different. I think if people actually take the time to explore my music then they’ll be able to see that there’s a difference.

Both of our styles are really great—no, I don’t think that there are that many similarities. Maybe it’s our accent and the way we pronounce words. Pop is Pop. R&B is R&B. There’s always going to be comparisons. I guess when you’re new that’s what happens. There will always be comparisons until you solidify yourself and establish yourself. So hopefully one of these days some new artists are going to be compared to me.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Superhead and Big Tigger go AT IT. Joe Budden Mad at Vlad!

DISCLAIMER:

All content within this section is pure rumor and generally have no factual info outside of what the streets have whispered in our ear. Read on.

TODAY’S RUMORS!

THE DAILY TWO CENTS!

I have crazy rumors today! I am starting off slow though and am going to update more in a few! You have to peep the audio on Big Tig and Superhead! MAN…crazy!

IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHINGallhiphoprumors@gmail.com.UPDATE! ASHER ROTH REFUTES PUBLICITY CLAIMS!From what I understand, Asher Roth has completely dismissed the notion that he had anything to do with the Bomb Scare on the ATL plane to Los Angeles. In fact, I have been told that he says: “Wow, so much exaggerated information – I had NOTHING to do with the bomb scare – Chris Llewellyn is a good man.” That very much supports the notion that I had on there before about his band mate being the person that actually did the heroic deed. Asher wasn’t on the same plane, I heard. So, maybe he would do something, but we’ll never know. He wasn’t there. Shout out to Chris! And shout “in” to publicity for this one. Thanks for the realness, Ashy! UPDATE: AKON AND YOUNG JEEZY ALBUM ON THE WAY!The best of both worlds? I think soooooooooo! Yep. These two are looking to do a Best of Both World’s type of album. Now, this isn’t something that’s new.  In fact, its pretty old. Many years ago, when they first started working together it all started. If my memory serves me correctly, AHH talked to Jeezy an he said it too. But now…Bu (Akon’s Brother) has confirmed that Akon and Young Jeezy working on Best of Both Worlds Album Together. Stay tuned for more on this one. I wonder when T-Wayne is coming? Pause. [:bazooka]UPDATE: FAITH HAS MAD LOVE FOR BIGGIEI might have to go and get Faith’s book! I was getting my twitter updates and I heard Faith was showing a whole bunch of love for Biggie last night at the afterparty of the movie premier. I heard the movie was great, but the after-jam was the true spectacle. There were all sorts of celebs in the house like Jadakiss, Duck Down’s Buckshot, Angela Bassett, Monie Love, Melle Mel, D-Nice, Monie Love, Diddy, Iidris Elba, Michael K. Williams and a bunch of others. But, when Faith took the stage, everything was taken to the next level. I never even met Faith, but I heard she could have been on that T-Pain song – “So Hood!” Who knew? Anyway, she was on the mic and really got it poppin’ for Big at the afterparty. It was very, very clear that she had and STILL HAS a lot of love for Mr. Biggie Smalls. UPDATE: WAS ASHER EVEN ON THAT PLANE?Asher Roth might have some questions to answer if my intel serves me right! I am hearing that Mr. Roth wasn’t even on the plane at the time of the bomb threat! Somebody specifically told me that it was the guitarist Chris Llewellyn from Asher’s band that was there at the actual time of the threat. Apparently some dude got up and started bugging out, Chris hears the Flight Attendant yelling “Help me,” so he got up and tackled the dude. The suspect who has been identified as Lawrence Johnson begins yelling “GET OFF ME, I GOT A BOMB! Now, I am not sure if Asher was supposed to be on that flight or not. Not sure. Hmmm…well, far be it from me to rain on anybody’s publicity parade. Apparently, Asher may not be able to formally talk about this, due to some FBI code of silence. But, reports say he WAS interviewed by the Feds. He’s gonna have to talk about this! I wanna know! Is he a hero or not!? [;)]

JD IS LEAVING DEF JAM TODAY…? (OH, I’M LATE!)

You know I had told yall that JD was gone a few weeks ago, but I heard today is the day for JD – his last day at Def Jam. I mean, that was a pretty safe run with some highs and some lows (think Janet and Mariah). Anyway, you know there has been no official confirmation that I know of, but I heard it’s a wrap. Here is one for the road!

Anyway…the news dept of AHH scooped me on my own rumor! Read their story…!!!

ASHER ROTH HELPS STOP BOMB MAN

The new section burned me again! Click here for the full story!

Asher Roth allegedly helped make a citizen’s arrest of a man that made a bomb threat in ATL. He was headed to Los Angeles from the A for an appearance on the Carson Daly show. The LA Times kicked the facts like this:

“The unidentified man was aboard Delta Airlines Flight 110, which was approaching Los Angeles, when he got up and stated he had a bomb, FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said.

“There was an altercation with multiple passengers, who ultimately subdued the man with plastic ties. At one point he tried to exit through one of the aircraft doors after the flight landed at LAX.”

I commend Asher’s people shamelessly promoting his do-gooding the way other rapper’s shamelessly promote BS. I put this in the rumors, because I want to know WHAT he did…publicists are always looking to spin something…hmmmmmm, Asher?!

SUPERHEAD VS BIG TIGGER

OH MY GOD. Tigger called in! Tigger said she would give her a million if she could find a dude that ran up in him and Superhead said Tyson Beckford hit.

JOE BUDDEN IS NOT HAPPY WITH DJ VLAD

Budden didn’t like Vlad taping his man’s brother getting slapped and Vlad just taping the drama. He’s got a point.

SIGNS THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END

Here is the raw video of the execution-style slaying of Oscar Grant. I wonder if he is in Heaven talking to Sean Bell about how foul the cops are.

A home video has surfaced showing the events surrounding the shooting death of 22-year-old man Oscar Grant by police at a Bay Area Rapid Transit station in Oakland early New Year’s day.

BART officials have said Grant was unarmed and implied the shooting was an accident, saying the officer’s gun discharged while he and four other officers responded to reports that two groups of young men were fighting on a train that had come from San Francisco and was en route to the Dublin/Pleasanton station.

EPIC FAIL OF THE DAY – P### WANTS TO BE BAILED OUT!

The p### industry feels they need a bailout to help them get it up in these tough financial times. Check out what CNN is stating.

Another major American industry is asking for assistance as the global financial crisis continues: Hustler publisher Larry Flynt and Girls Gone Wild CEO Joe Francis said Wednesday they will request that Congress allocate $5 billion for a bailout of the adult entertainment industry.

“The take here is that everyone and their mother want to be bailed out from the banks to the big three,” said Owen Moogan, spokesman for Larry Flynt. “The p### industry has been hurt by the downturn like everyone else and they are going to ask for the $5 billion. Is it the most serious thing in the world? Is it going to make the lives of Americans better if it happens? It is not for them to determine.”

Francis said in a statement that “the US government should actively support the adult industry’s survival and growth, just as it feels the need to support any other industry cherished by the American people.”

The Fail is…the p### industry isn’t suffering at all. DVD sales are down – DUH! But the internet has picked that slack up! Congress isn’t even going to pay this bailout any mind…now them getting a good flick is a different story. What a PR stinker that was.

Oakland Protest Of Police Shooting Becomes Mini Riot (Video)

A peaceful rally in protest of the New Year’s day shooting of Oscar Grant III at the hand of a Bay Area Rapid Transit officer turned violent yesterday (January 7).

A small group of protesters started rioting in the streets of Oakland, lighting a dumpster on fire and even attacking a police car.

According to community activist Charles Johnson, the rally started in the late afternoon and drew over 250 individuals to the transit station where the shooting occurred, all wanting to express their outrage over the way authorities have dealt with Grant’s death in the week since the incident.

Local sources told AllHipHop.com that by 5:30pm, several protesters had begun to march through the city’s streets.

An hour later, a small group broke off from the larger gathering and proceeded to light the dumpster fire and surround a police vehicle, rocking the car violently.

Police responded in riot gear. At press time there has been no official word of any arrests or injuries.

A group of close to 100 people continued to march peacefully, despite the commotion.

“People are fed up,” Oakland rapper Mistah F.A.B., told AllHipHop.com F.A.B. also spoke at the rally and witnessed the rioting. “Why the officers [involved in the shooting] on paid leave? Why aren’t they being prosecuted as murderers? “I mean, we’re talking about a police officer who has five murders on his hands,” he added, referring to the officer who shot Grant.

A video of the incident has brought the shooting to the nation’s attention.

It shows Grant and other individuals sitting on the platform following an altercation on the train.

Dozens of passengers witnessed an exchange between Grant and one officer turn surprisingly physical.

Moments later, as some say Grant was pleading for his life in the name of his daughter, he was shot once in the back.

He died hours later.

According to the medical examiner’s report upon exiting the victim’s body, the bullet ricocheted off the ground and re-entered, puncturing his lung.

Sources told AllHipHop.com that Grant’s family is now preparing a $25 million dollar lawsit against BART and the city of Oakland.  (shooting occurs at 3:03…exclusive video with the young lady who taped this angle included)
