The 2-year deal guarantees the cable network will have first-look rights to develop any project through Common’s Freedom Road Productions. HBO signed a similar agreement with fellow Hip Hop mogul Russell Simmons earlier this year.

Common has been involved in acting/filmmaking for over a decade. He has appeared in movies such as American Gangster, Just WrightLUV, and Selma. His filmography also includes a stint on the AMC television show Hell On Wheels.
