Retailer Dr. Jay’s has pulled various clothing lines that a New York lawmaker said could be associated with gangs.
According to The New York Daily News, representatives for Councilman Leroy Comrie office entered the store and bought T-shirts with slogans like “Never Snitch Ever” and “Respect the Shooter.”
Representatives for Comrie’s office said the slogans, as well as the colors on the various T-shirts could end up getting those who wear them into trouble with gangs.
“Dr. Jay’s retail stores do not have any of the products in question,” said a company vice president. “We have contacted our buyers of the Dr. Jays.com Web site, and they are removing or already have removed all of the inappropriate merchandise from this company.”
Dr. Jay’s opened its first store in 1975 in the South Bronx.
The company now has 19 stores throughout the New York metropolitan area.
