A Christmas classic will get a Hip-Hop makeover, thanks to a new Gap campaign featuring rapper Flo Rida and R&B vocalists Trey Songz and Janelle Monae.
The international specialty retailer cited the appeal of Hip-Hop artists among brand marketers as motivation fro recruiting Songz and Flo Rida to write what it calls a “street-smart rendition” of “Jingle Bells” for its Merry Mix It campaign.
Flo Rida’s role in the campaign is the latest achievement for the rapper, who made Hip-Hop history with his hit debut single “Low.”
The track, which is included on the rapper’s RIAA gold-certified first album Mail on Sunday, became the first ever debut single from a rap artist to top the Contemporary/Top 40 radio chart.
In addition, “Low” became an instant hit in the ringtone market as it received four times platinum certification from the RIAA for sales exceeding four million.
Flo Rida is currently enjoying the success of his latest single, the will.i.am-featured “In the Ayer.”
In store-video displays featuring the “Jingle Bells” remix are scheduled to broadcast in select Gap stores on November 13, the same day the Merry Mix It campaign debuts online, in movie theaters and Gap stores nationwide.
