Yesterday, the lawyer for 20-year old University of Virginia student, Martese Johnson, filed a motion to have Johnon’s charges against him dropped. According to The Washington Post, Johnson’s lawyer, Daniel Watkins, stated that the charges had “lack of reasonable suspicion to detain him.”

Johnson was beaten by Alcohol Beverage Control agents before being arrested on March 18th. The student was then slapped with charges of “public intoxication” and “obstruction without force” soon after. However, Watkins states that the defendants lack evidence of Johnson being intoxicated that night. The case went national after the news expanded through social media platforms.
