Dennis White: The Realest Thespian In Hollywood

Hip-Hop is no longer just DJ’s beats, rappers’s rhymes, b-boying, and graff. The culture has expanded so much that the participants and the culture has permeated into the main vein of popular society. Dennis L.A. White is one of the younger, innovative talents to branch off from the Hip-Hop tree into Hollywood for greener pastures. Most remember him for his portrayal of D-Roc, the best friend of The Notorious B.I.G., but nowadays White is moving into deeper waters. Starting this Thursday, he comes to the end of a two-week play in New York City as a man suffering from breast cancer. Additionally, this month White offers a compelling role in “The King of Paper Chasin’,” a gritty street flick with a sick twist. Read on about a man once known as “Dennis Da Menace” doing great things in a foreign land.

AllHipHop.com: Can you speak on your new play and the importance of the play?

Dennis White: The play is called, “Die Laughing”. It runs this Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 14-th-16th, 8pm, at the Roy Arias Theatre. 300 west 43rd street. I play Michael Laurence, A stand up Comedian, who finds out that he has breast cancer. Being that this is Breast Cancer Month, I think this play is extremely relevant to what’s going on. Breast cancer for men has been totally unpublicized. Did you know that Richard Roundtree, the dude that played Shaft, had breast cancer? It’s more prevalent than you realize.

AllHipHop.com: Is this a topic you feel is overlooked by Hip-Hop?

Dennis White: I do, With Hip Hop being predominately male driven, We tend to overlook little pains and problems that occur within our bodies. We’ve lost a lot of people due to sickness. Guru, J-Dilla, etc. We as Black men really need to pay more attention to our health to prevent such tragedies.

AllHipHop.com: The word on the street is this role is a game-changer for you since you have mostly played Hip-Hop or street roles mostly.

Dennis White: I hope so, I agreed to take this role because of the strength of the content and how it had the potential to stretch my acting muscle. I think people are really gonna be amazed when they come see me on stage. this is pretty much a one-man show. I am on the stage alone for about 95% of the whole show. I go from doing comedy to drama to experiencing extreme pain to poetry. It’s banana republic! Raqiyah Mays plays my wife as well.

AllHipHop.com: Changing gears, you played D-Roc, Biggie’s best friend, in Notorious. How has that affected you?

Dennis White: Man, the love has been incredible. Notorious has been a wonderful vehicle to show my talents and to secure other gigs. I’ve done 5 movies this year already. So workwise and financially it has been extremely lucrative. Being that I was a huge Biggie fan before the movie, my love and admiration for him has increased drastically since the movie. I feel like I am part of hip hop history. I think that Notorious with be one of the best hip hop movies of all time. In the same category as Beat Street, Electric Boogaloo and 8 Mile.

AllHipHop.com: Do people think you are D-Roc.

Dennis White: Hell yeah, I get people everywhere I go, coming up to me like, “Yo, D-roc, I put my socks on first, Motherf***er!” (laughs)I think that a lot of people can relate to someone like D-Roc because he was such a stand up dude. It’s funny, some of my people called me D-Roc before the movie so it just makes sense.

AllHipHop.com: For people that don’t known, what was D-Roc’s importance to Hip-Hop?

Dennis White: Damion “D-Roc” Butler is extremely importance to Hip Hop. He help the world experience Christopher Wallace. He protected Lil Kim in the whole Hot97 fiasco, He is holding Nicki Minaj down right now. I have nothing but love and respect for that man. We don’t look a lot alike though. LOL! he’s like 6’5, 280. That’s our running joke. He’s such a good dude and he represents what Hip Hop should be about.

Trailer: “King of Paper Chasin'”

AllHipHop.com: Can you speak on your new movie “King of Paper Chasin'” and your role in it?

Dennis White: King of Paper Chasin’ comes out in theaters Friday, Oct. 15th. It’s a great New York, Hip-Hop movie. I play “JB.” He’s a flashy hustler who is confronted with a situation that if he makes the wrong decision it could be very costly. Please support this project. The buzz is crazy!

AllHipHop.com: What’s your ideal role? Who would you like to play?

Dennis White: I wanna play someone that is paralyzed. I think that is a humongous challenge, to not be able to rely on your physical capacities and pull it off. I would love to play Big Meech, Paul Robeson, Kevin Liles and Dame Dash.

AllHipHop.com: How hard is it for an African American in Hollywood?

Dennis White: It’s very hard, especially if you aren’t related to someone, sleeping with someone or paying someone. I am none of the above. (laughs) The industry isn’t constructed for us to win. There are only a few avenues available for us and those avenues are either flooded or extremely narrow to get through. It’s even harder as a Black man because we are stereotypically threatening to others. The opportunities that are available to us often go to the top 8 Black male Actors. So you have to get in where you fit in. I go HAM with everything I do, so I’m uber determined.

AllHipHop.com: Does the Hollywood scene ever weird you out?

Dennis White: It does. It’s surprising to know how many dudes are homosexuals in the game. Celebrities that you would never even think would be that way. It’s baffling. some are just like that and some became that way to help their careers. It’s sad. I try to surround myself with people that I trust and have a strong and grounded mindframe.

AllHipHop.com: Who are your favorite actors and why?

Dennis White: Joaquin Phoenix, Jeffrey Wright, Ben Kingsley, Danny Aiello, Giancarlo Esposito, Wesley Snipes, Laurence Fishburne, Robert Downey, Jr. I appreciate actors that melt themselves into their roles and not vice versa. Those actors that take their craft seriously.

AllHipHop.com: What’s next for you?

Dennis White: I’m super stoked about a film I have coming out at the top of the year, “Changing The Game”. There are 3 films I have coming out in the 1st half of 2011. I’m in the process of filming at least 2 more projects before the year is out and I’m working on my music again. I have a new group that I formed, TFT. Look out for the song, “Rich Girl”.

AllHipHop.com: Any final words?

Dennis White: Yup! Please, Please, Please, if you are in the New York area come support, “Die Laughing” – Oct.14th-17th. 8pm. This is the last week of shows. 212-352-3101 or TheaterMania.com for tickets. Come see me live and direct. Also, I really appreciate the love that AllHipHop has giving me throughout the years. Thank You!

Miss Jones, Husband Plead Guilty To Disorderly Conduct After Spat

(AllHipHop News) Philadelphia radio personality “Jonsey” aka Miss Jones, recently pleaded guilty to a count of disorderly conduct, after an altercation with her ex-husband in June. Jonesy, born Tarsha Jones, shot to fame as a singer, on classic tracks like “Where I Wanna Be Boy” and AZ and Nas’ song “Sugar Hill.”Additionally, she has remained in the public spotlight as a radio personality, first on Hot 97 in New York and at her current gig as morning host on Power 99FM. According to reports, Jonesy was involved in physical altercation with her former husband Kolon Patrick in which she punched him and attempted to strike him with her Mercedes. Patrick was also arrested in the incident and also pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct. Both were hit with small fines for the incident. “This was more of a misunderstanding and a disagreement over something minor,” Kevin Hexstall, Jones’ attorney, told The Philadelphia Daily News. Kolon and Jones finalized their divorce last April.

RZA Snags Wrestler Batista For ‘The Man with the Iron Fist’

(AllHipHop News) Wu-Tang Clan producer The RZA has snagged WWE star Batista for his upcoming new movie The Man with the Iron Fist. The movie, which is being directed by RZA and also stars Academy Award winning actor Russell Crowe, centers around a blacksmith, who forges weapons for the inhabitants of a village in feudal China when they are forced to defend themselves. In an interview with movie site ComingSoon.net, RZA revealed that the wrestler born Dave Batista, will star in The Man with the Iron fist a character named Glass Body. “I would love to bring these worlds together. That’s what I’m striving to do. My budget is not as big as some of these movies, so I’ve got to pull a lot of favors," RZA said. "Another buddy who is on board is Dave Batista, the world wrestling champion who left and now he’s into Strikeforce and he’s going to be doing mixed martial arts. To have him come on as ‘Glass Body,’ when I talked to him about it, he was like, ‘I always wanted to be The Toad in Five Deadly Venoms, and I said, ‘this isn’t The Toad but the character is very similar,’ and he said it would be his honor to do it. So to have him and Russell Crowe standing beside each other, two men, real men, is exciting. But I’m looking to make this an international thing that brings both worlds under one umbrella and get out a good piece of art.”While The RZA’s "budget might not be as big" as other movies, sources stated that The Man with the Iron Fist is being shot on a budget of about $20 million. In addition to The RZA writing the movie with producer Eli Roth, the flick is also being produced by Quentin Tarantino, Eric Newman and Marc Abraham.RZA will also star in the movie as the "weapons-making village blacksmith" that provides the weapons for the village to defend themselves. The Man with the Iron Fist will reunite RZA and Russell Crowe, who starred opposite each other in the flick American Gangster, which also co-starred Denzel Washington, as well as rappers Common and T.I.Additionally, RZA and Russell Crowe will star together in The Next Three Days, which is being directed by Paul Haggis. The Man with the Iron Fist is in pre-production. According to reports, the movie is due in movie theaters in 2011.

Animal Rights Group Seeks Out 50 Cent To Adopt Rhinoceros

(AllHipHop News) Rap star 50 Cent may have the title of “Godfather” bestowed upon him, should he take up a South African Community group’s offer to adopt a rhinoceros. A community policing group called eBlockwatch is calling upon 50 Cent to become “Godfather” to a black rhino that was shot nine times by poachers. The black rhino, named Phila, had already survived two poaching attacks earlier in the year, prompting the organization to make the bizarre offer to 50 Cent. “We want to ask him if he wants to become the godfather of our rhino so that he can create awareness worldwide about rhino poaching,” said Andre Snyman of eBlockwatch.According to Snyman, he hopes that 50 Cent will adopt the rhino, which will be renamed “One Pound.”50 Cent is not one who allows businesses to exploit his image or likeness. In July of 2007, the rapper successfully sued a company called Traffix for $1 million, after the company created a “shoot the rapper” banner advertisement game featuring an image with characteristics similar to 50 Cent. In November of 2009, 50 Cent and Taco Bell settled a dispute, after the fast-food chain illegally exploited his name in the media, by connecting him to a nationwide promotional campaign that asked him to change his name to .79, .89 or .99 cent.

This is Vashtie.

Isn’t she pretty? More than pretty, she is super talented. She recently made history as the first female to design some Air Jordans. She’s the darling of the hipster world and even was in the rumors a ways back over some Pharrell stuff. Anyway, She had a party the other night and guess who she brought out? Both Dame Dash and Jay-Z came to a party she had last night. There aren’t too many details yet, but they were both in the house. I will keep you posted. Dame Dash was also as a recent concert with Curren$y and Big KIRT. Nothing to report from that either thought.

LUPE’S FAN PLANNING ANOTHER PROTEST?

Did you read the news?

(AllHipHop News) After rapper Lupe Fiasco made peace with Atlantic Records yesterday – just a week before his fans’ scheduled protest – the label has finally announced a spring release date for the much anticipated Lasers album.

The album, which stands for “Love Always Shines Every Time Remember 2 Smile,” is slated to be released on March 8th.

That’s good news, but not good enough according to what I am hearing. I am hearing that Lupe’s fans are actually gearing up to mount another protest to get the album pushed UP. The new single is coming in about two weeks. I don’t know if they are going to get their wishes on this one.

T.I.’s Probation Officer Recommends Prison; Lawyers Seek Lesser Sentence

(AllHipHop News) Prison time for T.I. is inevitable, although prosecutors and defense lawyers representing the rap star are arguing in court over how much time he should spend in prison for violating his probation. According to reports, T.I.’s probation officer has recommended a sentence of eight to 14 months in prison, while lawyers for the rapper countered that at most, T.I. should be sent to prison for 5 to 11 months. At 2:00 PM on October 15th, T.I. will find out just how much time he will spend behind bars, for violating the terms of his probation on September 1st in Los Angeles. Police stopped the rapper around 10:45PM on the Sunset Strip, after he made an illegal U-turn in his Maybach. A search of the occupants revealed that T.I. and his wife Tameka “Tiny” Cottle were carrying a controlled substance, later identified as ecstasy. Additionally, T.I. tested positive for drugs during a test conducted after the traffic stop.T.I. was on probation after being released from prison last March, after serving a year for attempting to purchase machine guns and silencers in October of 2007, just before the BET Awards.

Chip tha Ripper: Gift Raps

While many people from around the world are more familiar with Kid Cudi and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony when it comes to Cleveland hip-hop, many fans are starting to take note of one of Cleveland’s finest, Chip tha Ripper. Chip who recently finished up a nationwide tour, is currently working on a new project called Gift Raps, set to be released as a Slab Ent and Cake Recordings project. The project will officially feature songs with Chuck Inglish and Mikey Rocks of the Cool Kids, Tennille and Boldy James, but other features are also in the works as well. In addition to his own work, Chip is featured on Kid Cudi’s upcoming new album, as the two have formed a duo they call, “The AlMighty GloryUs”. But how did he get his start, how did he persevere through the times in Cleveland when people were mostly only listening to down south raps? “Disguising the lyrics in different music,” Chip says. Take a look at this AllHipHop.com exclusive interview with the up and coming Midwest rapper and one is regarded as one of raps most intriguing new artists. AllHipHop.com: So what kind of projects you working on now?Chip tha Ripper: I’m doing this Gift Raps album that me and Chuck are doing now. So we are just throwing it everywhere, on iTunes and in stores everywhere. We doing it independent though.AllHipHop.com: So Chuck from the Cool Kids produced the whole thing?Chip tha Ripper: Yea man, me and Chuck doing the whole thing, its crazy.AllHipHop.com: That’s a good look.Chip tha Ripper: We just putting the last finishing touches on it bro but its going down. AllHipHop.com: So who you go lined up on there?Chip tha Ripper: Man its hard to say because I don’t want to leave anyone out, I don’t really wanna say though, but its some people and couple of names on there, but its going down! (Laughs)I don’t really like to look for features, I f### wit my fam, I just like to vibe out with my homies…. we weren’t even planning anything, we were just chillin’. Like there’s a record from me and Mikey (of the Cool Kids) where we were just hanging and chillin‘ and vibin’ out. If I collab with someone, that’s usually how it happens.AllHipHop.com: I can tell the buzz is getting stronger in Cleveland for artists, I remember seeing emails from Mick Boogie and Terry Urban, Ray Cash has been in stores and online for a few years now, Kid Cudi. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony are legends. It’s good to see artists making it out there, some artists felt they had to leave Cleveland to make it. Its cool to see you have stayed at home and you’re staying true to that area.Chip tha Ripper: Its crazy for a time its like… when I first came on the scene it was a whole another like…… that Texas music was in out here, if you wasn’t playing screw [Chopped and Screwed music], it wasn’t nothing. That down south Texas s### was it…. If you weren’t rapping like them, you really weren’t getting any play out here at hip-hop shows and in the streets or whatever out here.I had to keep my, you know…. I came up being a lyricist, but had to mix that in with whatever they wanted, that, that, whatever, I don’t know what you call it, but we called it “cappin music” up here. Like cappin’ is a word we had for showing off, like stuntin’ or what we call it cappin. We had switched it like cause cappin’ also meant like showing off or stuntin’ like lying, so it was like if its something that so unbelievable, like you lying, but you ain’t lying, so its like you cappin’AllHipHop.com: [Laughs] that’s crazy bro. That’s funny man. That Cleveland lingo…Chip tha Ripper: Laughs, know what I’m saying? So that whole movement took over and it was inspired by cappin’ and the down south movements like DSR, Swisha House, Fat Pat, Lil’ Keke, and Chamillionaire, he was like the man…. The names go on forever. All that was real heavy in Cleveland. So all that was around the time when me and Cudi was coming up. Cudi was like f### this s###; I’m outta here. Me, I said I’m gonna give it a try, ain’t got nothing to lose so, I stayed. I kind of switched it up a little bit to the point they couldn’t realize they were getting real raps. I kind of disguised my lyrics into another form of music that was hot and rode that out until it got back to reality where it’s at now and its perfect.AllHipHop.com: So now when you do a show in Cleveland its crazy.Chip tha Ripper: Its perfect now, when I do a show in Cleveland its crazy. I just had a show in New York at Santos, I brought Cudi out and it sold out. I had performed there with Cudi, but it was like it was my show and that mothaf**ka sold out beyond capacity. Mothaf**kas couldn’t get in.AllHipHop.com: I was talking to Bone Thugs about Cleveland artists backstage and they mentioned you as an up and coming artist.Chip tha Ripper: That’s dope man
Chip Tha Ripper & KiD CuDi – All Talk (Live At Santos) from illRoots.com on Vimeo.
<d##>Chip tha Ripper: Well it was like 4 years and when we were just coming up I met Cudi four years ago, and I heard his music and I didn’t know he was hip to my music, but one thing let to another, we both knew a mutual friend and we came out to the show in Chicago at the Metro on the North Side and ever since then its been going down. </d##><d##>We kind of recognized what we had to do. It was one of the first raps I owned on tape. It had the cardboard that was open on both sides. That was the s### tho.AllHipHop.com: Talk to me about some of the influences man.Chip tha Ripper: Instead of the artists I like the songs. I like a lot of 50 Cent songs, Nas, Canibus, Redman, man just like certain songs that were crazy. The Too Short songs, Pimp C was real consistent in his songs, and Bun B they were raising me.AllHipHop.com: It’s crazy how much the Texas sound really resonated in Cleveland.

Lupe Fiasco’s Lasers to Be Released in the Spring

(AllHipHop News) After rapper Lupe Fiasco made peace with Atlantic Records yesterday – just a week before his fans’ scheduled protest – the label has finally announced a spring release date for the much anticipated Lasers album. The album, which stands for “Love Always Shines Every Time Remember 2 Smile,” is slated to be released on March 8th. After the success of his two previous albums Food & Liquor and The Cool, the public has been anxiously awaiting a set release date for the Grammy-award winning artists’ new compilation. The Chicago-bred MC will release the lead single on Tuesday October 26th via his new website www.lupefiasco.com. Last month, fans of the rapper announced that were planning a protest of Atlantic Records on October 15th, to force the label to release Lasers. Over 30,000 signed a petition requesting Atlantic Records to simply release the rapper’s highly anticipated album.

Jeezy at Prime Time in Atlanta, BET Hip-Hop Awards Weekend.

During the hustle of the BET Hip Hop Awards, AllHipHop.com got all access to and exclusive listening session and behind the scenes look at Young Jeezy and the CTE camp. Much what was witnessed will never been told…but here is what can be shared with the public.

Amidst the darkness of the club and bright strobe lights, maneuvering our way around the Lamborghinis, Escalades and the clouds of smoke, we captured rare footage of the man behind the myth. Getting exclusive glimpses of the rapper that has inspired so many not only in the rap game, but also in the streets, on playing fields and across the globe, AllHipHop was able to partake in what was a legendary night in hip hop.

Maybe every night is epic or inspirational with the CTE, but with the delay of TM-103 (Jeezy’s next full length album) many fans were left wondering about what happened to the album. Jeezy also didn’t make an appearance at the BET Hip-Hop Awards.

But judging by the response he got from the crowd, and if history is correct, fans shouldn’t worry, nor should they question the method to Jeezy’s calculations of when TM-103 should drop.

The Recession was timed perfectly when you think about the concept that he was able to carry throughout the project. The attention that the album garnered from fans, and the industry as a whole is astounding. When looking at how many people were humbled by the financial crisis, the title still resonates today.

The Last Laugh mixtape plays straight through like an album, and seems to take fans back to his legendary days of TM101 quality album work. Emphasizing his consistent ability to resonate throughout the streets and across the globe, Jeezy again is giving the fans work in a drought.

The Last Laugh is a solid project with epic, arena sounding songs, which will likely prove to be enough to hold fans over until TM-103 comes out. Until then, Jeezy will be performing at select dates across the U.S.

In the words of Young Jeezy, “Dont go for the BS, TM-103 will be here this year.”
