Bun B Shoots Video for “Ridin Slow” ft Play-N-Skillz, Helps End Beef Between Rick Ross & Slim Thug

(AllHipHop News) Last weekend, Houston rapper Bun B, gave AllHipHop.com exclusive access to his video shoot for the song “Ridin Slow” featuring Dallas, Texas production duo Play-N-Skillz.“The album [Trill OG] is out, it’s doing good, it debuted at the #4 on the Billboard 200, you know what I’m saying?” Bun B told AllHipHop.com in an exclusive interview. “With this album of course we want to sell records and we want to do numbers for yourself, the record company and everyone involved with the project, but at the same time you don’t want to compromise your integrity for that.””Ridin’ Slow” was shot onsite at eCarlink.com’s car lot within the Addison Airport and just outside of Dallas.Bun and Play-N-Skillz talked about the song and the success of Bun B’s Trill OG project.“Its actually our first record when we stay on the hook, usually we demo the records and then they take us off,” Play told AllHipHop.com. “Skillz stays on the hook, so in case yall didn’t know that’s Skillz singing on there. Bun granted us the honor to stay on the record, he said ‘it’s time,’ and there you go.”The video sheds light on Bun B and Play-N-Skillz expensive taste among other things, as the video’s first scene features Bentleys, Ferraris, 737 planes and a host of other exotic vehicles.“With Trill OG that one thing we really wanted to concentrate on, was just making sure we maintain the integrity for the project, but also for the legacy of UGK and in Pimp C’s honor,” Bun B told AllHipHop.com. “I think we did a good job with that, we were lucky enough to get rewarded with 5 Mics from Source Magazine, which is a blessing and overall just good reviews from everybody.”One the second scene of the video at Luxe Car Shop, Rick Ross, Slim Thug, Treal Lee and Prince Rick, Inertia and new G4 affiliated artist Trai D all make cameos in the video.Additionally, while on site for a cameo appearance, Rick Ross and Slim Thug shot portions of their video for “Paid tha Cost”.  Previously the two were in a war of words over Twitter, in what they now clearly both regard as a miscommunication. After the shoot, Bun B., Rick Ross and Slim Thug performed at the Palladium Ballroom in Dallas, TX.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Why Jay-Z Dissed Hammer & What Hammer’s Gonna Do!

“And Hammer went broke so you know I’m more focused. I lost 30 mil so I spent another 30, ’cause unlike Hammer 30 million can’t hurt me.” -Jay-Z on “So Appalled”

When Jay-Z sent this shot at Hammer, I didn’t understand. Now, I do. The only thing is, I can’t speak on it! This is the side of the job that sucks, because I KNOW. All I can say is that, that line wasn’t a slick rap line, it was definitely a diss and MC Hammer himself, via Twitter, said he saw the diss coming. So, there you go. On the same note, there’s word that Hammer is preparing an epic video about Jay-Z. As you all know, Hammer is a preacher of sorts. I don’t think he’s ordained but he’s Christian and even had songs like “Pray” back in the day. Hammer’s references to Jay-Z as “Hellboy” and his desire to do something on “Devil’s Night” aka Halloween speaks loudly. Rumors say Hammer is going to present an argument that Jay-Z is a disciple of Satan himself. As you know, Jay-Z has vehemently denied these claims, but the man that deems himself King Hammer is going forward. Jay hasn’t commented since. This is definitely a game of chess at this point. What do you think of this battle of the titans?QuestionsView ResultsHAMMER AND JAY, WE LOVE YOU! Nelly Speaks On The New Rap Movement vs Older Schools

Ten years have passed since Nelly signed a deal with Universal Motown, and it’s commonplace now to hear rappers like Drake, T-Pain, and many others blending singing with their spoken lyrics. They’re younger, perhaps even wiser than he was about how to capitalize on the sound over the past few years, but Nelly gives them respect. He says he understands that all things change, and that Hip-Hop is a youth-driven culture. He recently invited AllHipHop.com to his Apple Bottom offices in New York and he talked candidly about some of the discord between the generations. He also changes the conversation to how we can improve relations.

Nelly to AllHipHop.com: One thing I think is that we as the beginning rap fans, and I’ll say those over 30, we were some of the first fans. What we have to understand is what made us fans. What made us fans was the rebellious music…was not listening to what older people told us we should be listening to.

So now, why is it that when we became the older people, we forgot how hip-hop got started? We were rebelling. So when we go back and we try to tell people who are fans of certain people that we may not like, all that does is make them rebel, and it makes the s**t bigger. You see what I’m saying? As we get older, it gives us the right to contradict, and when we’re younger , we don’t have that right? No.

What we’ve got to understand is that hip-hop was made for the youth, by the youth. And it’s going to always be controlled by the youth. So we’ve got to understand that, and we’ve got to understand that it’s going to make mistakes. We have to allow it to make those mistakes. But you also have to give those same young people the respect, so that hopefully one day they can wake up, and we work with them and not against them.

A lot of people want to work against them, as opposed to working with them. If you can get people to come in and work with them…if you can get Nelly and KRS-One to talk…whoa, lo and behold, you got Nelly and KRS on a song. And that’s what it’s about. We gotta bridge that.

I think we s**t on the young people for liking something so much that we look like haters to them. I don’t want to be a hater to my kid. I don’t know about y’all, but I don’t want to be a hater to my son. I want my son to think he’s got the coolest muthaf**kin’ dad on the planet. Because I wished that when I was young. I wanted my dad to be cool…like why couldn’t my dad have been more like Rev Run? You see Rev Run on TV and you’re like, damn, he’s cool. He likes hip-hop, he’s cool to everybody.

My dad used to s**t on rap. My uncles and them were like ‘that’s not real music,’ and they were talking about Run DMC and LL Cool J and Tupacs and Biggies, you know what I’m saying? Which now , we try to get people to listen to like ‘take it back to the old school.’ It’s crazy.

There are some bad rumors going on right now! I am hearing seriously that the iconic record company Slip-N-Slide is going to shut down in the near future. Somebody sent me this tip and said that about 70% of the company has been let go and they are regrouping with the rest. They are putting their efforts and energy in a new venture called THUG.com. So, go there and visit it for some fun in the Thug World. That used to be Trick Daddy’s site, didn’t it? Anyway, there’s an artist Mike Bless that they are looking to for the future too. I hope it works out.

Mistrial Declared In Buju Banton Case; Singer Seeks Bail

(AllHipHop News) A mistrial has been declared in the drug case of Jamaican reggae singer Buju Banton, who alleged attempted to purchase five kilos of cocaine from an FBI informant last year. According to reports, the 12 jurors could not reach a verdict after four days of deliberating Buju Banton’s guilty, prompting U.S. District Judge James Moody declare a mistrial. The reggae singer, born Mark Myrie, was arrested in December of 2009, after surveillance camera allegedly caught the singer and associates making a drug transaction with an undercover officer. Buju allegedly inspected the shipment, resulting in multiple charges, including conspiracy to posses and intent to distribute in addition to possession of a firearm during the course of illegal activity.Buju Banton’s lawyers claims the government entrapped the singer because they used a government informant who pressured him to purchase the cocaine. Lawyers for Buju Banton are attempting to have the reggae star bonded out of a federal prison in Tampa, where was transferred after his initial arrest in Miami. Buju Banton is facing life in prison if he is convicted of the charges, which include conspiracy to possess and distribute cocaine, as well as possession of a firearm during the course of a felony.

BEST IN TEXAS BREEDING GROUND: Tha Centop – The New Houston Order

[Editor’s Note: I already knew he was an ill MC before I met him. He sounds like this Philly/NY rapper transposed in Houston over these ill beats but he’s from the H for sure. Then I saw how musical he was in the studio, from audio mixing and breaking down elements of a track and verse. His music knowledge is crazy and his flow is fierce, this kid is NICE. -Steve Raze]Tha Centop, who is lovingly referred to as the Remix

King by fans, is about making movement not only for himself but others. I

experienced this first hand after texting Tha Centop manager to schedule an

interview. At the bottom of her e-mail it said, “Tha Centop we’re going to GET

IT and highly motivated to get YOU there.” Not only is he trying to help other

people in the industry get some shine, his main goal is to bring some

positivity to Houston rap. That’s refreshing to say the least.

Tha

Centop’s sound is a mixture of those deep soulful country beats laced with

lyrics that contain content. Tha Centop is reminiscent of Scarface, as cliché

as it may sound, the comparison is there. Working to build a better environment

not only for Houston but Hip-Hop as a whole, this Texas lyricist is making his

mark one showcase at a time. He’s a pleasant surprise to a scene and sound that

is generally overlooked by mainstream recently.

Music:Tha Centop – “Tha (Cy)pher” Tha Centop Ft. Alicia James – “Morality Music”

AllHipHop.com: Explain your name Tha Centop.

Tha Centop: Basically “centi” is one hundredth of a

measurement. Then there is top, which is the peak. Therefore my name stands for

one out of hundred.

AllHipHop.com: Describe your take on the Houston music

scene.

Tha Centop: As far as the sounds of the music, or the

environment?

AllHipHop.com: I’ll take both.

Tha Centop: As far as the music goes, most people would

notice the style as being DJ Screw, Bun B, Scarface and Pimp C. It would be

that kind of country rap where they would talk about their cars and stuff like

that. What is beginning to happen is its starting to change over to newer

artists being more lyrical. You’ll notice more sampling. There is a stronger,

well rounded sound. As far as the environment, I would have to say it is very

click oriented. You have the small circles and what not. There are so many

different artists that have talent that it gives that “crabs in a bucket”

mentality. That’s why we started to put together these different shows to try

and bring these artists together. This way it can get back to where we were mainstreaming

in ’04 and ’05.AllHipHop.com: Tell me more about these shows you put

together.

Tha Centop: Basically we started a show circuit called

Tha Four Horsemen Circuit. It’s based off the group that has Rock Show,

Kriktal, Mr. PKT and myself. We put out a couple songs. One of them got posted

called “For Introduction” and we got a lot of good feedback and we also got a

lot of backlash. We got it because of the original Four Horsemen that put out

music about 10 years ago. People felt like we were riding off of that name. We

feel like there was never a project so it was never really a group. Yet we put

together a circuit that gets a bunch of artists together. It has everything

from homosexual artists to conscious rappers to gangster rappers. We put them all

together in one show. It does pretty good as far as selling it out, promoting

and what not. We have some good footage. Those are the types of things we’re

doing now. We have R&B shows, comedy shows and stuff like that to get the

entertainment life back to where it was.

AllHipHop.com: What’s the response like for the

homosexual rappers in your shows?

Tha Centop: There are a lot of male and female homosexual

rappers. Some of them have huge followings. We took a female rapper by the name

of Rome, she has a good following. We put her in the show because the artists

we put in have fan bases. They weren’t able to book shows because they were not

running around in those circles. We gave them an opportunity to get to perform

for their fans and people who may not know who they are.

 “I can’t say that I’m a gangster rapper or I’m a conscious rapper or

I’m a party rapper because my music it’s just how I’m feeling at the time.”

AllHipHop.com: What was meeting 8Ball & MJG like for

you?

Tha Centop: When I was in 8th grade, he came

to my school and talked with us. He came and gave us music to some unreleased

songs at the time and videos. He was around us and freestyling and talking to

us. At the time no one was doing that really. He was the first person to tell

me that rap is good for rhythm and poetry. I wasn’t really enthused by Hip-Hop.

Basically taking those words three years later, I was playing football and once

I couldn’t play football anymore, that’s when I really got into writing. A few

years later I got into recording my own stuff. I didn’t record my first song

until about 2005. Whenever I write I think about what 8 Ball told me.

AllHipHop.com: Have you had any other star encounters

since? How about working with other artists?

Tha Centop: I’ve met with a lot of different people. I’ve

done some engineering work for people. I have sat around and met with people or

sat in on conferences talking about the trade. I am around artists mostly from

the Houston area and I just listen to what they say. Everybody has a story.

Everyone has a reason for doing it. Everybody might try and say what to do and

what not to do. I would rather spend time listening to these artists then

actually talking to them. I would like to hear what they had to say. What they

would offer up.

AllHipHop.com: Have you performed outside of Texas?

Tha Centop: We’ve done some things in Oklahoma. We have

done some things in Louisiana. Personally I like it because I have a pretty

decent MySpace buzz when MySpace was the thing to do. I would go places and

people would notice me from my MySpace. That was cool to me to be in New

Orleans and have people come up to me saying I’m one of their MySpace friends.

For me not to have a record on the radio was a big deal. People would ask for

autographs, mixtapes and things like that. To me that was great. To get that

buzz was cool. To have people tell me, I saw your face on AllHipHop.com, I

liked the type of freestyles you did. Then I would have some people want to

battle me. To have things like that happening was cool. I would like to excel

so I can get into more touring in the earlier part of 2011.

AllHipHop.com: What do you want people to take away from

your work?

Tha Centop: What I want people to take away from my music

is the fact that it’s my music. It’s what and how I feel at the time. It’s very

scattered. I can’t say that I’m a gangster rapper or I’m a conscious rapper or

I’m a party rapper because my music it’s just how I’m feeling at the time. Even

when I do the fun music, I try to present it in a clever enough way so that

it’s not considered bubblegum music. For people o really get my stuff, you have

to listen a couple times. I have said stuff before and after the actual punch

line. People can see they have something before and after to take things

further. That’s my thing, to have something to make people think.

AllHipHop.com: Have you been compared to any other

artists? What artists would you like to work with?

Tha Centop: Probably the Gift and the Curse, mostly because I have a lot people tell me I

sound similar to him. Which I don’t really hear myself, but I get that a lot. I’m

a big Jay-Z fan. I like J.Cole, I like what he’s doing. I would like to do some

type of cipher with Cassidy or Joe Budden; somebone like that.

AllHipHop.com: What Southern rap trend would you like to

bring back?

Tha Centop: I think to bring back more of that late 90’s

sound. Not even just the Southern rap, just the way that you felt and believed

what rappers are talking about. It just seems like a lot of rappers are just

image because that’s what they’re told to do. There’s no realism to it. I would

like to see that realism come back. I think it would help record sells. If

everyone is gangsters and selling keys and what not then it seems unbelievable.
