(AllHipHop News) Jay-Z has confirmed that he has signed Will Smith’s daughter Willow to a new deal on his label, Roc Nation. It’s rare to find an artist with such innate talent and creativity at such a young age. Willow is about to embark on an incredible journey and we look forward to joining her as she grows in all aspects of her career.”Willow, 9, already has a career, having landed roles in I Am Legend and in Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. “After meeting with several record companies, it was clear that Jay-Z, Ty Ty, Jay Brown and the Roc Nation staff was the unquestionable choice,” Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “Their passion for Willow combined with their boundless vision and artistic integrity made Roc Nation the perfect home for our little girl.” According to Jay-Z, Willow’s advanced beyond her years and has a vision for her career in the music industry, despite only being nine. He noted that superstars like Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder started their careers off young. I believe on big records on superstars and I think she has both.”Rap runs in the family’s blood. In 1985, Will Smith started off as a rapper in known as The Fresh Prince, from the streets of Philadelphia, along with his partner DJ Jazzy Jeff. Willow’s 12-year-old brother Jaden also raps on a song called “Never Say Never” with teen idol, Justin Bieber. And their mother, Jada Pinkett-Smith, front a hard rock band, Wicked Wisdom. A release date for Willow Smith’s Roc Nation debut was not available as of press time.

Hip-Hop mogul Jermaine Dupri, Frank Ski, DJ Drama, Shawty Lo, Chilli from TLC, Bobby Valentino, executives Shanti Das and Kenny Burns, Kandi (Real Housewives of Atlanta/Xscape) and numerous others will launch the Give To Grady campaign tomorrow (September 10th) at 12:30PM. The group will start with mass messaging via Facebook and Twitter, to help raise funds for Grady Hospital, which is the only Level I Trauma Center in Atlanta. The facility relies on donations from the private sector in order to serve the community with state-of-the-art health care for burn and wound care, neurosciences, neonatal intensive care and other medical needs. Fans are being asked to support the G2G campaign by texting “Grady” to 50555 to donate $5 to Grady Hospital, which is one of Atlanta’s oldest healthcare facilities. “We are extraordinarily excited that Atlanta’s entertainment community will join Grady in what may be the only grassroots fund-raising campaign of this kind in the country,” said Grady Health Foundation’s President, Lisa Borders.”Public hospitals are woven into the fabric of our communities and yet rarely does the community come together in this way to support our important work,” Borders continued. “Atlanta is a special place, with special people who are genuinely concerned about each other and the city.”In addition to the viral messages and television ads, the G2G campaign will include a press reception in October, as well as promotional events around the city until the end of December.
AllHipHop.com caught up with one of Philadelphia’s most promising rappers, Reef The Lost Cauze. Those who follow Hip-Hop closely are familiar with Reef’s lengthy independent discography as a solo artist and as a member of Army of the Pharoahs. Reef’s new album Fight Music is his 6th and it features heavyweights like Kool G. Rap, Big Noyd. Reef is looking to take things up a notch in 2011. AllHipHop.com: So Phillys the area, and we took quite a few trips out there and we heard a lot of your stuff. We seen you up in Philly off of South Street perform, and it was incredible. Talk to the rest of the world about the Philly hip hop scene. Reef: Well, its interesting. The reason I say that is because there was a time where it was a lot more live, a lot more unified. Over the years, a lot of things changed, and the people that started off doing it in this area, in the underground scene with me (pauses) You know, real life catches up, so they arent really doing it anymore. But then again, there is a whole crop of people that are dedicated to the music that are still making great music. You got guys obviously like Black Thought [ The Roots], who is like the King to me out here; Beanie [Sigel], And Freeway doing they thing; Peedi Crakk just got released outta jail, and he been heating em up lately; you got the young brother Meek Mill whose signed to T.I. [Grand Hustle] that is doing his thing all over the radio and mixtape scene right now. You got JedI Mind Tricks, that is holding down the underground right now. Been doing so for 13 plus years; Chief Kamachi, Bahamadia; my man Hezekiah, and my girl F.O.C. New producer named Dumb High , thats working on a lot of new projects. So, its a lot of talent. My man Niko Da Beast. I can go on an on, but there is a lot dope emcees in Philadelphia that are just struggling to get they name out there. But as far as the game, we still trying to continue to put our stamp on it. You know , cause Philly tends to be still under the shadow of New York a little bit, so its kind of a glass ceiling here. AllHipHop.com: It seems like Philly has that raw hip hop, freestyle, go hard type of appeal to it, you know what I mean? Would you agree? Reef: Yeah, man! Absolutely. I mean, people dont really know this, but, Philly pretty much, as far as the arrival of battle rappers in the whole landscape of hip hop; Philly was a major part of it. You know, Pop Art Records, here in Philadelphia, they basically produced and put out The Bridge by MC Shan, which obviously, led to the Bridge Wars. They also put out Roxanne Shantes response to Roxanne, Roxanne, which started the Roxanne wars. So, historically, weve been a huge part of battle rapping from the very start of hip-hop. So, I think a lot of people forget that, but thats engrained in our blood. You know, I spent my life, battling, and being in ciphers with dudes, trying to outshine people. So, I think that’s something real in Philadelphia, the battle circuit, because thats something that I came up in. But a lot of people got caught up in just doing that. Its a lot of dudes you see on these DVDs and Youtube videos with like 1 million hits, that never put out a record. Its kind of frustrating because I want those brothers to shine as well, you know. AllHipHop.com: So, do people style battle on the corner. Cause I remember back in the day it used to be a big community type thing to see people battling. Do they still battle on the corners like that? Reef: In Philly, you had different breeding grounds for that. Places like Bobbito Footworks, and the 5 Spot that had battles. So the competition was at the time more easier to find. Those places are not around like that anymore, but you still have organized battles that happen. AllHipHop.com: Now, you come up on the street rapping that hard, you might get blasted. I know that statistically, the Philadelphia area has more killings than any other area in the country right now. I mean the murder rate numbers are up there especially over the bridge in Camden! Reef: Were the murder capital per capita. What that basically means is that our area for our size, we usually average about between the top 3. Places like Baltimore and D.C. are within those close numbers as well. Camden, N.J., which is right across the bridge, is probably one of the worst places in the world as far as violence goes. Its really sad. Its such a beautiful city, and I love it so much, but theres a part of me where it really breaks my heart that its so much violence and loss through death. Young kids in communities being raped and killed by other 18-year-old kids. AllHipHop.com: Talk to me about your recent project. Who are some of the producers? Who are some of the people featured? And, whats your vision for it? Reef: Word. The new album is called Fight Music. Its produced by Stu Benson and J.Scrilla, also known as Guns and Butter; A production team, based out of Washington D.C., by way of Boston. Stu is in Boston now, Scrilla still in D.C. But, I met Stu a few years back, and we just connected. I liked his music, and he liked mine, and we started making joints together. This album has been recorded over a two, to three year period. Because we didnt even know if it was going to be an album. We just locked in and started making songs. Since then, it has turned into a really big project. Its got Kool G Rap on there; R.A. the Rugged Man; it has my brother Big Noyd, and K.Betta. I.K.M.; Fierce Lee, a respectable individual; my man Flames, who is coming up in the game; My dude King Magnetic, whom I been working with closely with for the last 3 years. You know, most of it was written to and recorded on the spot. Its just a very aggressive, abrasive album, but it also has a lot of fun moments to it. It has a lot of effective moments to it. I can easily say that its the album, that out of all my work, the music can just speak for itself. AllHipHop.com: What are some of your favorite songs on this project?Reef: 3 Greats” which is produced by Stu as well. Its just phenomenal because it has me, Kool G Rap, and RA the Rugged Man. I cant express my gratitude enough to having them be a apart of this project. The What We Rep joint produced by J. Scrilla, with my man Big Noyd. You know, thats another honor, just to rock with him. The vibe of that record is just crazy. Its been getting a lot of response. And, Imma G, which is the first single that we put out, and I think Stu did that one as well. Theres a lot of dope records and I could never just pinpoint just one.AllHipHop.com: How did you get your start in the Philly area?Reef: Yeah, basically I was bitten by the hip-hop bug at a very early age. Started making demos with my crew as early as age 10 or 11. We were making demos and performing and things like that. And its something that I always did and always loved. At the same time, I was in school and it wasnt like I thought that I would ever make a living out of it. But, around 17-18, I was graduating high school and I was heading off to college; not really sure why. Probably just to keep my mom happy. I dropped out of school and dove into music head first. And its been my life every since. Its been my everything. You know, I pushed my first record, The High Life in 2001, which was produced by my man Sleep B. I started doing local shows, and from there doing the battles. I got a lot of love locally, and took it nationally, and now internationally; but it happened slowly but surely. I put out 5 solo singles; they say 3 because thats the amount that I had in stores, but altogether its 5. Part of the crew Ju-Ju-Ma, which is a crew my man Chief Hama chi started; Army Of Pharaohs, which is a super group my man Benny Harold put together, and I been doing shows since 2001-2002, so Im almost up on a decade, man. AllHipHop.com featured me years ago, but they always show love. AllHipHop.com: What independent record shops and stores carry you CDs, and where can new fans go to get your material? Reef: Honestly, you may be able to find them in the major stores. But our market is mainly the mom and pop record stores. So, if you look at your local stores that usually carry Independent CDs, Im up in there. We are in your Best Buys and FYE. But the best place is obviously the internet. iTunes. As far as getting physicals [copies for distribution], undergroundhiphop.com is always a great spot to holler at, and Amazon.com. Limewire. I understand that people steal, and thats fine. You can also come to a show and watch me rock. I just want the people to get and gravitate to the music.
Who knows if Lauryn Hill will ever officially return to Hip-Hop as a rapper. To be honest, Lauryns so talented, most of us would be happy to have her in any way. This is why her recent duet with Ronald Isley is such a joy. The pair remake the classic Burt Bacharach-written record Close To You and give it a modern twist. Not one once of the legendary song is lost on Lauryn and Mr. Bigg. Even though the Hip-Hop Nation could use the emcee talents of Lauryn Hill, this will do for now. As for Ronald Mr. Bigg Iseley glad to have you back too after that lil’ bid.
Burt Bacharach and Barbra Streisand sing “Close To You” – nearly 40 years ago!
PAYING RESPECT
You ever heard of Big KRIT? Dude is on the come up! Here is a song of his a lot of people like, including myself. I know this isnt new, but I thought I would take a moment to pay my respects to a young dude on the come up. I really appreciate this dude.
KELLY ROWLAND AND KENYON MARTIN NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
You know my girl Kelly has a rumor on her. You know this is bogus, but I will do my job and write about it. Basically, people are saying that Kelly is dating Kenyon Martin, a has-been ballplayer. Well, I dont believe it, but here is the rest of it. You may remember this video with Kelly and Trina.
Apparently, Trina and Kelly are good friends. Now, Kelly is getting some bad rumor talk! Well, we know its not true. Anyway, Kelly is supposedly very interested in dude, but hes not into her. Now, you KNOW that means its false. The supposedly had three dates or something stupid.
HELP, DIDDY!
Joaquin Phoenix is trying to rap and boy is his a faker! So, as a fraud would, he goes to Diddy for advice. On the rumor side, I heard this is all a big hoax but the hoax is running a lil long if it is. Below is from a documentary.
Here he is rapping and getting booed and getting in a fight.
CAN T.I. BEAT THE CASE?
I am hearing very little about the T.I. and Tiny case, but one think I am hearing is that its not the best of scenes for Tip. Tell you something you dont already know, right? Well basically, when you are on probation, I am told the parole officer doesnt have to prove all that much to violate you. Basically, they dont have to go all into court to put you back in jail. At least the burden of proof is way lower. So, if the cops found drugs on Tip, hes probably screwed, but if they found it on Tiny, hes got a better chance. I guess thats pretty common sense. I heard hes got a 50/50 shot.
ILLSEEDS QUICKIES
Jay-Z had a birthday dinner for Beyonce and was joined by Alicia Keys, Kanye West, Serena Williams,Sean Diddy Combs and both of their mothers.
When you get a chance, peep Maino on The World Of Jenks! He chokes this white dude for questioning him as a responsible person. Some say it was staged, but Im not so sure.
Shout out to Mike Tyson, whos ‘biggest regret’ is not smoking weed with Tupac. RIP PAC.
Since Kanye and Raekwon did a song with Justin Bieber, hes now a part of the Hip-Hop Nation. Grand Master Bieb recently passed out due to exhaustion associated with too much touring.
Chris Browns mother apologized for saying Michael Jackson died so Chris Brown could live. Good call Momma Brown.
Jay-Zs Roc Nation is now managing Willow Snith, Will and Jadas daughter. Shes got that song Whip My Hair and Rihanna needs to watch her back.
I think I said this yesterday, but Mike Tyson is expecting his 8th child.
If you didnt see it in the news. FABOLOUS and SOULJA BOY ended their pressed stunt I mean, beef yesterday!
Lauryn Hill inches forward. Shes working on a new song for Ronald Isleys new album.
EPIC FAIL OF THE DAY
I really tried not to do this, but I had to. Nivea tried to remake a Sade classic. She did the remake, but honestly she failed. Now, if your reference point starts here, it may not be so bad. But, the general rule is you dont remake Sade. How many are there out there? I dont think I never saw one.
This is why Nivea is a fail.
ILL BE BACK!
Im going to take it easy for a few…on my private island…my mind.
Lupe Fiasco has gone on record and suggested that his anticipated album Lasers may never see the light of day due to a creative dispute with his label.
The rapper and Atlantic Records have reportedly been at odds over the artistic direction of the album.
The situation with me and my record company has gotten to the point where its just like were really at our final straws. People could say its me, that Lupe doesnt want to make popular music or The label has got to have records that they can sell and Lupe is not giving them the records they want to sell, he told complex.com. Ill meet a fan on the street and well have a full conversation about it. Theres maybe six or seven people walking around who know the whole story with their mouths wide open and their jaws to the floor as to why Lasers has been held up to this point and why its not coming out. I cant tell you that. Were in a space where were still negotiating and some stuff isnt meant for the public.
Fiasco said that the present finished but unreleased – album is an accurate statement of his vision for Lasers.
Continuing, he said, I literally put it in Gods hands. You know what, Lasers is a record I poured my heart into. I was actually making my own music, in the studio making the songs, and rapping on them. And at the same time, making the music more acceptable. Not making it more poppy, but making it more popular. Putting it in the position where more people can understand it but at the same time still satisfy my hardcore fanbase.
Open Letter to
Hiphop America
September 2010
Peace to all of
you. I am writing this letter from Brooklyn, New York, where I am currently a
Democratic candidate for Congress. For those who do not know, there are 435
United States Congresspersons in America, and 100 United States Senators, all
based in Washington, D.C. when not in their home districts, and all of them
together represent the 300 million Americans living in our nation. That is
power. The power to provide resources, services, information, jobs, and loans
for small businesses. The power to help people to help themselves.
That is why I
am running for Congress. I come from a single-mother led household, I had no
father figure whatsoever, and grew up in the kind of poverty, violence, and
confusion I would not wish on anyone. But a few things definitely saved and
empowered my life. One was a belief in God, instilled by mother. Second was
definitely my moms and her giving me a love of education, in spite of she
herself only having a grade school education. And finally it was definitely
music and culture, especially hiphop as I came of age in the 1970s and through
the 1980s.
I was a dancer
and I tagged my nicknamekepo1any and everywhere in my native Jersey City. I
was at all the famous hiphop clubs of the 1980s, like Union Square, Funhouse,
and The Rooftop. I helped to produce, along with youth activists like Sister
Souljah, those big outdoor rap concerts on 125th Street in Harlem in
the late 1980s. A writer since I was a child, I was a founding staff member at
Vibe, and interviewed Tupac Shakur more than any other journalist when he was
alive. And I was the curator of the very first exhibit on hiphop culture, at
the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999.
I am hiphop. And
I am also a public servant and activist for people, all people. For the past 25
years, in fact, since I was a youth.
That is why I
am running for Congress. Not only would I be the first true hiphop head in
Congress, but I also would be bringing a fresh take on leadership, blending the
best of grassroots politics with Washington, D.C. maneuvering, all to that
boom-bap beat.
And, as dead prez once famously said, this is actually bigger than hiphop. This is about my
being a leader, a bridge-builder, and all of us weaned on hiphop music and
culture understanding the power of this, the most dominant art form of the past
30 years.
If not us, then
who?
Respectfully,
Kevin Powelll

A brief feud between Fabolous and Soulja Boy, which started on Twitter, has been resolved on the radio waves of New York City.
DJ Clue of Power 105 in New York conducted a brief interview where the two men settled their differences.
The entire incident started after Soulja Boy was allegedly caught in a tryst with Kat Stack, who said the young rapper was snorting cocaine. The vixen also showed a plate of what seemed to be the illegal drug in an online video.
After the video went viral, Fabolous took to his Twitter with commentary that used humorous lingo #stupidboyswag, a play off Soulja Boys#### Pretty Boy Swag.
I thought that he was taking shots at me, when it was just jokes. It was a misunderstanding, a mis-communication, Soulja Boy said on the radio on Wednesday night. I’m about making money.”
Fabolous was brief and agreed with his younger counterpart.
We’re not trying to make a LeBron special…we smoothed it out and back to the money, he said. I know people thought it was going to be a [Manny] Pacquiao fight, but we sat down like bosses.
During the interview, DJ Clue said that the pair had exchanged information so that there would be no more misunderstandings.
