Hammer Ordered to Pay for Breaking Marketing Contract

(AllHipHop News) MC Hammer has been ordered by pay on a 7-year old default judgment after failing to convince a judge of a court error.

Hammer, real name Stanley Burrell, was sued by the owners of PacketSwitch.com for defaulting on a contract to market the company.

The Oakland rapper fought the claim on the grounds that his role was never more than a shareholder. He testified to U.S. District Judge Jeremy Fogel that his one appearance at a shareholder meeting resulted in one of the plaintiffs, Robert Icho, allegedly flashing a gun.

Although the plaintiffs originally won a judgment in June 2003, Hammer was never made aware of the court decree because of a typo in his name.

Instead of being listed as “MC Hammer aka Stanley Burrell,” the legal documents recorded him as “MC Hammer aka Stanley Berrell.”

On these grounds, Hammer requested a dismissal since he was never served notice, which would have allowed the opportunity to contest the lawsuit.

Judge Fogel denied the request, stating the defendant “obviously had the ability to consult with counsel if he had any questions as to his legal situation.”

PacketSwith.com was also dogged by suspicion of unethical business practices. Before going out of business, the company was subjected to an investigative audit by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The amount of the default judgment against the rapper was not disclosed.

At press time, MC Hammer could not be reached for comment.

The Last Word: R.Kelly’s New Closet, Mel B’s Lollipops, Jamie Foxx Helps Kids!

Greetings everybody! (I see you Jill). The week has come and gone with the cold weather continuing to smother the East coast with snow, former President Bill Clinton being in good spirits after entering the hospital Thursday for chest pain and all eyes are on Lidnsey Vonn and her bruised right shin as the Winter Olympics kick off tonight in Vancouver.

Shout out to the New Orleans Saints for making history with coming out on top after making their first appearance at the Super Bowl and the sounding boards for making sure that Valentine’s Day is everyday for the people they love.

Enough of all that. Let’s get to…the Last Word for the week ending Feb. 12, 2010.

1.       Kelly Price Reveals Fear of Revisiting Homeless Past

With a successful solo career that includes collaborations with Mariah Carey, P. Diddy, Whitney Houston, Deborah Cox and Tamia, Kelly Price has done well for herself.

And while many stars get big headed from all the accolades and fan adoration, Price remains down to earth by remembering a time where things were much different from the nice lifestyle she currently lives. A time that involved not having a place to live during her childhood.

“I remember being homeless and sleeping in my mother’s car when I was four years old, Price shared with Elev8.com. “ I remember my mother would go to family members on my dad’s side and ask can my sisters and I stay with them. I remember my mother bundling us up in coats with tears in her eyes and taking us to sleep in the car.”

Fortunately for us, Price’s singing voice provided a way out of her homeless surroundings as she found success with her hit single “Friend of Mine.” But despite being in a better situation and living much better, the fear of being homeless remained present  and prevented her from enjoying the fruits of her labor.

“As an adult, I have to be honest and say that there’s not much that I’m afraid of. But I work the way that I do because I have a bit of fear of homelessness.  I have to believe God to deliver me from that,” the songstress said.  “I have such a vivid memory of being homeless.  I remember I would not get my nails or hair done unless I had a show because I felt like it was money that did not need to be spent,” says Price.  “I’m talking about Kelly Price, The Soul of a Woman record.  I would have to give myself a reason to go to the mall and shop.  I don’t splurge shop.  I have too much in my closet to spend money on clothes.”

Thank goodness for being able to rise above her plight. Price is currently working with Tamia and Cox on their album, The Queen Project. Look for that project to hit stores this year.

2.       Jamie Foxx Keeps Musical Dreams Alive With Donated Instruments

He may  be able to blame things on the alcohol, but let it be said that Jamie Foxx will not let the youth of today blame their lack of musical skill on a lack of instruments.

The singer/actor was able to bring a bit of harmony to 16 high schools around the country as he helped presented a  variety of new instruments to students on Tuesday (Feb. 9) at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Valued at $500,000, the instruments included violins, flutes, saxophones, clarinets, French horns, trumpets and drums.

The presentation stuck a personal nerve for Foxx, who confessed to students that he started his entertainment career as a classical pianist. The stint ultimately netted the actor/singer a scholarship to study the instrument in college.

“That allowed me to come to L.A. and work on my craft,” Foxx said as he retraced his evolution from   acting and comedy to his Oscar winning role as Ray Charles in the critically-acclaimed biopic Ray.

According to the Associated Press, the presentation was part of the Fidelity FutureStage program, an effort by the investment firm to enrich arts education in public schools by providing instruments, specialized training by professional musicians, and a chance for aspiring artists to perform with renowned orchestras such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Boston Pops.

Seeing the impact of Fidelity’s efforts, Foxx hopes other companies will follow the firms lead in keeping the dreams of aspiring musicians alive.

“Even if a kid is not going to be the greatest musician in the world, just the fact that you gave him something, the fact that you said, ‘Hey, I care about you,’ that’s what it’s about,” the entertainer said.

3.       Jordin Sparks and Estelle Enter the Jewelry Business

Fresh off of sharing studio time with musical all-stars in the “We Are the World” remake, Jordin Sparks is continuing her charitable ways by making a fashion statement in the name of a good cause. Hollyscoop.com reports the former American Idol winner has collaborated with Pennyroyal Silver creator and designer Tim Foster to create her own necklace deign for the company. Included in the jewelry will be the Japanese inscription “Suki Desu,” which means “I love.”

The necklace, which is available on  pennyroyalsilver.com, is priced at $125. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the jewelry will fund mobile medical units in Haiti.

“I am so excited to be working with Pennyroyal Silver on this project! Suki Desu means ‘I like’ or the more casual form of ‘I love’ in Japanese. I really like this phrase and it inspired the drawing,” said Sparks, who revealed another message that appears on her creation.  “On the back it says, ‘I’m M.A.D., Are You?’ Just my way of encouraging you to do something positive to help someone else. 30% of the proceeds from the sale of this pendant will go to Sparks Charities to fund mobile medical clinics in Haiti. So technically, by purchasing this pendant you are M.A.D.!”

Sparks isn’t the only singer getting into the jewelry biz.  According to reports, London born singer/songwriter Estelle has aligned with Rachel Roy to create a capsule jewelry collection exclusively for the Rachel Rachel Roy brand, a division of Jones Apparel Group.

Look for the limited edition, limited quantity collection to include necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings. Price for the items will range from $34 to $195.The collection, which w will be available at Macys.com and Rachelroy.com, will be available for purchase beginning in March.

4.       Groove Theory Prepares to Get Its Groove Back

Looks like Sade’s isn’t the only music veteran making a return. The folks at SoulSummer.com state that ‘90s R&B duo Groove Theory is reuniting for another musical run.

The group’s return was confirmed by Czar Entertainment executive Jimmy “Henchmen” Rosemond, who revealed that members Amel Larrieux and Bryce Wilson are making their reemergence official with a new album.

“It’s going well,” Rosemond said. “They haven’t worked together in so long, and like most groups that break up, they’ve come into their own, so it’s almost like sharing that spotlight again, but it’s coming along. I’m excited.”

For those that don’t know, Groove Theory came on the scene in 1995 with their classic hit single, “Tell Me.” The success of the RIAA gold certified song paved the way for the group’s self-titled debut, which included the follow-singles “Keep Trying” and “Baby Luv.” After a couple of soundtrack appearances —“Never Enough” on Love Jones in March of 1996 and “It’s Alright” on Sunset Park that April—the group drifted apart with Larrieux pursuing a solo career and Wilson unsuccessfully replacing the songstress with Makeda Davis.

Once Groove Theory officially split in 2001 after its sophomore album was shelved, Wilson continued his work as a producer with collaborations with Mary J. Blige, Beyonce, Amerie and Toni Braxton to his credit as well as a string of acting roles.

Now that the original Groove Theory line up is whole again, Rosemond believes new music will arrive fairly soon.

“In about two months, real light promo through the Internet and see how radio and people react to it,” he said.

5.       R. Kelly Confesses to Having More Trapped in the Closet Capers

Just when you think everything has been brought to light in R. Kelly’s Trapped in the Closet series, the pied piper of R&B has more in store

In a recently released video, Kells reveals the Trapped series is far from over. In fact, the crooner is just waiting to unleash the next round of chapters in a series that centers around the aftermath of a one night stand and the drama, lies and capers that follow.

“I just finished up 15 chapters,” Kelly said in the video. “I need to know if this is what you want from me. Ya’ll let me know because I’m ready…”

Although I did enjoy the first round of Trapped in the Closet saga, I have to take a page out of the Saturday Night Live Playbook and ask “Really R. Kelly?!”

Is this really artistic creativity or a true case of stuck on stupid progression not regression? Really?  Don’t be fooled, though. I probably will listen and check out the videos to these chapters. But really. I’m just sayin.’

In Other Words…

Former Chappelle’s Show cast member Charlie Murphy is bringing is stand up comedy act into your home with the release of his first live performance DVD, I Will Not Apologize. The Image Entertainment video is slated to hit stores on Tuesday (Feb. 16).

Two years after cutting a rug on Dancing With the Stars, Toni Braxton is returning to reality TV with a show of her own. Although details are slim at this time, the series, titled Braxton Family Values, will debut this fall and feature the six-time Grammy winner and her family.

Musically, Braxton’s new album, Pulse, will hit stores on May 10.

Former Destiny’s Child member Michelle Williams has utilized her vocal talents to help a terminally ill youngster. The  singer fulfilled the wish of Sam Campbell by recording a song he wrote, titled “Make It Last.” According to reports, Campbell suffers from a brain defect known as Chiari Malformation.

According to Williams, the tune was an impressive display of Campbell’s ability to create something worth singing on. “Sam’s song is really good! I wasn’t writing like that at the age of 15,” she  told OK magazine. “I have to step my game up, for real!”

No doubt. Melanie Brown has her fair share of admirers who are sweet on her. Now, the former Spice Girl can capitalize on that with lollipops she had a hand in creating. Media sources report Brown designed two new “couture pops” for the online candy store SugarFactory.com. The lollipops, called Purple Passion and Lilac Swirl, feature jeweled sticks

With her new lollipops, the entertainer joins fellow SugarFactory pop creators Kim Kardashian, Britney Spears and the Pussycat Dolls, who each have their own candy brands.

As we continue to enjoy the music on Alicia Keys’ latest album, The Element of Freedom, she has already moved on to the next project. WENN reports that Keys has plans to exercise her love of collaborations while voicing a desire to get in the studio with Grammy winning rock group Kings of Leon and “Paper Planes” singer/songwriter M.I.A.

“Working with other people is definitely something I want to do more of. I love it a lot. It takes me out of my element into a whole other world,” said Keys.  “I’d love to collaborate with Kings of Leon and M.I.A. I think would be crazy.”

B.G. Pleads Innocent To Gun Charge

(AllHipHop News) Former Hot Boy member B.G. has pleaded not guilty to a gun possession charge in a New Orleans court yesterday (February 11).

B.G., born Christopher Dorsey, was arrested in November 2009, when police stopped a Chevy Tahoe for an undisclosed traffic violation.

According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, a search of the vehicle uncovered three loaded guns and two extended clip.

Additionally, two of three guns had been reported stolen. In addition to B.G., Jerod Fedison, 18, were charged each charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

The third man, Demounde Pollard, was booked on gun and drug charges, but prosecutors dropped the charges. In June of 2009, B.G. was arrested and booked into jail on drug charges and was also arrested in Texas, court records show.

According to court documents, B.G., 29,  failed a drug test late last year. Yesterday he was ordered to pay $350 to undergo another drug test next week.

B.G. recently released a video for “Back to the Money feat. Magnolia Chop,” taken from his most recent album, Too Hood 2 Be Hollywood.

B.G. rose to fame with Hot Boys group members Lil Wayne, Juvenile and Turk.

Lil Wayne is slated to be sentenced to a year in prison on March 2 for attempted possession of a weapon, after police found a .40 caliber handgun on his tour bus in New York.

Turk is slated to be released from prison sometime this year, after serving a total of six-years of a 12 year-sentence, for shooting an undercover Memphis, Tennessee S.W.A.T. team member during a raid of a local apartment.

KID CUDI DUMPS HIS BAY-BOO?

It would seem that he dumped Amanda Bynes just as she said she loved “chocolate.” She’s getting her share of hate over her preference, as is John Mayer. But, she and Cudi were the “thing.” Who knows? It could be that she was too talkative? It could be that she loved Drake too at one point. It could be..Cudi didn’t like her. Who knows. Amanda got on Twitter and said:

“If something doesn’t work out with the guy I like, then I guess it just wasn’t meant to be! You can’t FORCE relationships/love. If it’s meant to be, it will be!”

“Oh well! It was fun while it lasted. I’m over it. It’s a good thing I never said his name so I can pretend like it never happened! I will just block him out of my memory!”

Speaking of the Kid. Remember when Kid Cudi punched that fan’s lights out for tossing something on stage? Apparently, Cuddles called him and apologized. Cool!

TAHIRY LASHES BACK AND JOE BUDDEN!

Apparently, Tahiry has said that she was sent to the emergency room due to Joe Budden’s alleged “wife-beating.” Here is what she had to say. I didn’t listen yet. The audio is below!

Beanie Sigel is still working on his next album.

EXCLUSIVE: C-Murder Says Young Trump Not His Son; Doesn’t Support Bow Wow Beef

(AllHipHop News) Imprisoned rapper C-Murder has lashed out at published interviews by his alleged “son,” who discussed the rapper’s life sentence, while simultaneously disrespecting rappers like Bow Wow, his mother and other rappers.

Rapper Young Trump, of The Rich Boyz, appeared on Streetz Disciplez Radio and claimed he was C-Murder’s son.

During the interview Young Trump revealed he had issues with Bow Wow, Yung Berg and Sean Kingston.

He labeled Bow Wow phony and called his mother a “s###” and called Yung Berg a “fa**ot.”

According to C-Murder, Young Trump is not his son, he is his cousin. “Young Trump is not my son, he is my little cousin,” C-Murder told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “For me personally, he’s young at this, so the beefs he’s into are something I do not support. For him to be saying I’m his pops and then disrespect Bow Wow’s mother like that….I don’t get down like that.”

According to C-Murder, his younger cousin’s comments have stirred up controversy for him, as he focuses on his appeal.

“I don’t want my name thrown out there with this,” C-Murder told AllHipHop.com. “I wouldn’t never dis anyone’s Mama and I don’t appreciate it being put out there. Let me people know what level I’m on. I aint got one enemy in the industry. I don’t believe in enemies and I don’t believe in beef. That’s my cousin and I love him, but I don’t agree with what he’s saying.”

C-Murder, born Corey Miller, is currently working with his legal team to appeal his conviction for shooting and killing 16-year-old Steve Thomas inside Club Platinum, a now-defunct Jefferson Parish Night Club.

C-Murder was convicted of the crime in 2003 and sentenced to a mandatory life sentence.

After a series of appeals that went to the Louisiana Supreme Court, his conviction was overturned in 2006, after it was learned prosecutors expunged the criminal backgrounds of their witnesses.

He was convicted for the crime a second time in August of 2009, but a juror went public after the trial, claiming the jury was corrupt and that she was pressured into making her decision.

Others claimed that a juror slept during deliberations, while another quoted from the bible and repeatedly asked to be excused from the case.

Even the judge sent jurors back to discuss the verdict during the trial, because he felt on juror may have changed a vote just to end the trial.

“We are in the process of reading over the transcripts now,” C-Murder told AllHipHop.com. “That’s taking 30-90 days. In three months, we will file and then go from there and pray for the best.”

Black History Month Fashion Tribute: George Clinton

George Clinton‘s goal with each outfit choice is seemingly to be as innovative, colorful, larger than life, and of course as funky as can be. With his multicolored wild locks still in tact at the age of 69, George never left his P-Funk style behind since he first broke out in the 70s, where he was the main act in the groups Parliment and Funkadelic. In 1981, he began his solo career, quickly becoming known as one of the pioneers of funk music, among the likes of James Brown and Sly Stone.

Unfortunately, his music career was not the prosperous ride that you would expect for an acclaimed singer, songwriter, producer and band leader. Due to shady contracts with record companies and mismanagement, George was ripped off from much of the financial gain he should have received for his work throughout the years. This resulted in the star suffering severe financial problems, and when his mother passed this past December, it was reported that he was having trouble affording funeral expenses. Throughout his career, George has collaborated with the likes of Tupac, Outkast, Prince, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and more, and continues to inspire artists of today like Snoop Dogg and MIA. Currently touring and working on an album with Sly Stone, George keeps going on – as does his wacky style.

“I remember watching a Funkadelic Live video aged 10 and wondering why the rest of the world didn’t dress in glittery hot pants, white big pimpin’ floor-length fur coats, sunglasses and fur hats, let alone carry space guns and novelty-shaped guitars. Clinton’s Mothership Connection spaceship beamed down to earth to wow us not just with music, but with an out-of-this-world dress sense too”. – Lauren Cochrane, Guardian UK

You can still spot Mr. Clinton with his signature hair, large shades, and eccentric gear. Just check out the latest video of the funk master at the 2010 Grammy Awards:

Sadly, it was just reported yesterday that George Clinton’s son, George Clinton Jr., was found dead at the age of 50 from liver failure. Our thoughts go out to George Clinton and his family. Source: Guardian UK

George Lopez: Dallas’ All-Star Hip-Hop Architect

As the NBA’s All-Star weekend approaches and seemingly every hip hop celebrity in the world gets ready for their featured party in Dallas, many heads are turning towards the Dallas rap scene, curious as to who the major players are in the “Big D”

If you know anything about Dallas hip hop you know that many people have tried to categorized Dallas as solely a “dance song” or “ringtone song” city, but some people in this area beg to differ. Since 1994 T-Town Music & More has been located in the Pleasant Grove Bruton Bazaar. The store has provided listeners with Dallas’ best hip hop music, mixtapes, DVDs.

The owner of T-Town Music & More, George Lopez, built his empire from this location and has been in the game for some time now. Whether it was developing relationships that helped up and coming labels like Rap-A-Lot, Swisha House and No Limit Records, or running T-Town Music & More, or creating one of Dallas’ most well know rap groups, DSR, George Lopez has built a hip-hop empire in Dallas that is seemingly unparalleled to any other hip-hop executive in the city.

“George Lopez will be remembered for years to come. He took the Dallas sound and spread it across the country as well as possibly making the greatest sacrifice for the city.” – Kiki J K104 Hip Hop and R&B of Dallas

“George is definitely a pioneer and he’s a trendsetter. His store helped break a lot of artists and his street tactics and marketing go so under looked in the market.” – Play of Grammy Award Winning Production Team Play-N-Skillz

AllHipHop.com: So, just so our readers know, tell me a little about who you are what you have done here in Dallas?

Goerge Lopez: I’ve been in the music business for a long time now. I’m like an old school DJ/ retailer/ promoter/CEO, I’ve done it all. I started DJing back in 1983. Been in the mix music wise for a couple of years now. Opened up a record store in 1994, T-Town Music & More, we were the first ones to bring Screw music to Dallas. I was part of the whole movement with Swisha House, Hump at Sucka Free Records, D-Wreck there at Wreck Shop. Pretty much I was the one that brought all that music over here. I was bringing the Swisha House music, Wreck Shop, we were pumping the Rap-A-Lot music pretty hard out here. I was the new record store in ‘94, but I hooked with those guys in ‘95 and ‘96 . Worked with Master P, pushed a lot of No-Limit stuff out of my shop. A lot of people knew me because I used to push a lot of No Limit, also a lot of Houston music. For years, people would come to the music shop. They knew we had everything, No Limit & Rap-A-Lot had to offer. The DJ Screw mixtapes, the Swisha House mixtpapes, the Lil’ Flip mixtapes, people knew we had it all.

From the first day that I met OG Ron C, to G Dash, to Michael Watts, to Hump at Sucka Free, to D Wreck at Wreck shop. You come to my city, let me know I got you. You know what I’m saying?

Music-wise, we got tons of stores in Dallas. I made sure that their product was in a lot these stores, because I believed in the movement that come out of Houston and the movement that came out of the South. So being that said, everything that was going on with shows, features in D-F-DUB, you know I made happen

AllHipHop.com: Can you tell us about some of the artists that you have really worked with and that have worked Dallas hard? What artists have really killed the streets for your company? What kind of movements do you got going on?

Goerge Lopez: The first guy that I stared working with out of Dallas was Kottonmouth. I mean he sold crazy numbers and he was a beast in the streets. You know he has a lot of hits and he is a legend here in Dallas. I also worked with Pimpsta, Mr.Pookie and Mr.Lucci. I worked with them for about two and half years. Everybody knew how many numbers they moved. I worked with a lot of people man. I was blessed enough to work with Big Al and his crew. When I was young I would go to the Twilight Skating Rink, which was a big skating rink here in Dallas, the legendary Dr. Rock, Dr. Funk, those were like the big type DJs in Dallas back in the 80?s that were doing their thing, Then I started hearing the whole new movement going on, that was the Nemesis, Ron-C, Fila Fresh Crew, Fresh Roc Production, I started getting a lot of knowledge on the Dallas scene, so you know, I was working with artists that were building up and bubbling. But me learning all that, me working with Houston artists, I was like, You know what? I need to have a Dallas movement of my own started. So we put a group together called DSR and we sent flows to Ray Face and the Boss Hogg Outlawz and the Color Changing Click, which was Chamillionaire and Paul Wall, they was already doing his own label thing. We sent some flows out to his way. We sent some out to Swisha House, and they check them out. So that’s how DSR kind of just started, you know the new movement in Dallas and this was like 2001.

AllHipHop.com: Who was in DSR?

Goerge Lopez: DSR was Fat B, Big Tuck, Tum-Tum, Addiction, Lil Ronnie, and Double T. That’s six artists. It wasn’t that small to begin with because I worked with a lot of artists and I didn’t know what I wanted and a lot of new artists that I was working with were pretty good. So really when DSR the name first started, I had actually like 17 guys and it was like I liked all of them. Now with us starting this movement, now you got all these other Dallas artists making their own movement for Dallas and I love that. People say, “Man, are you against it or do you hate it?” Man you know what? This is the way I look at it, “bad press is good press.” You got your good press out there that’s good and you got your bad press out there. You got people saying, “What do you think about the whole dancing movement?” I say, “Dog, we don’t dance, we boogie down here. This is what we call the boogie movement.” What do you think about that, people say this, “people are writing in magazines about this and that, about one hit wonders?”

Look if this one hit wonder can make two or three million dollars and put the city of Dallas on the map, I will congratulate them. You know what I’m saying? Cause if it was so easy, why didn’t someone else do it all these years? You know what I’m saying, I respect everyone’s hustles and I respect everyone’s music.

Me as a retailer I’m going to get people that want to buy dance music, I got people that want to buy trapin’ music, I people that want to buy this and this and that. I’m here for it all, I’m a retailer/DJ, and so me if I like good music, I’m going to push it.

AllHipHop.com: Tell me a little bit about some of the artist that you have coming out right now.

Goerge Lopez: Right now I got my marketing company called Jin Ent. I’m really trying to buildup my marketing company. I’ve been in this marketing company since ’07, slowly and gradually. Right now the three artists I’m working with right now hand and hand. I got a Latino rapper, and I hate to say Latino rapper because people categorize him already, but when you hear his music. His name is Rock. He’s from Pleasant Grove. He’s got a song called “Gotta Get The Cash”. I’m getting ready to start pushing that real heavy.”

Another artist I’m working with, he’s got his own company called Bonecide Entertainment. His name is Bone. He’s got a song right now on the radio called “Ringtones” Ft Rizzo and he’s got a new song called “Goodtimes”, and that’s the record that we are pushing right now. You might have seen him on the new Ozone Magazine; he’s on the front cover of January’s edition. He’s going to be on the front cover of Block2Block Magazine for the All-Star edition. He’s bubblin.

And Big Tuck of course. Me and Tuck since day one. You know what I’m saying, I’m managing him right now. I got my marketing company that is 100% behind him, Jin Entertainment, so it’s like right now I’m in the mix marketing, promotion, distribution, anything you need and that’s what I’m doing. We got a distribution called Music Access; we are located here in Dallas. People are comparing us to Southwest Wholesale, that was the biggest distribution in the south; they closed up a couple of years ago. There was another distribution that was out of Gonzalez, Louisiana that was real big that was pushing a lot of southern music, well they shut down now, so right now the only thing in the south is Music Access Distribution. It’s me and my partner Robert Gonzalez, and we are pushing a lot of music here in the south now. The whole movement, I’m behind it 100%, all these artists that need distribution they are coming through us. It’s about you networking. We’ve gotten so far because of the people we’ve networked with.

We’ve networked with the key people in the game. Not just anybody. We deal with the key people in the city. We go to Miami, we deal with the right people, we go to Atlanta, and we deal with the right people. I mean these are the movers and shakers that we deal with, we don’t just go to anybody. I mean we cool with everybody. We keep our business nonstop on conversation, emails, phone calls everything non-stop every time, and that’s how when you are pushing your music you have to be on top of your game. If not you are going to fall into the cracks because there are a lot of rappers that are trying to get on. People don’t understand that this is a business and a business runs with money but that it also runs with relationships and networking and that a lot of the stuff we built on.

Dr. Dre Files Lawsuit Over The Chronic Royalties

(AllHipHop News) Dr. Dre has filed a lawsuit against Death Row Records, the legendary record label he co-founded with Suge Knight.

Dre, born Andre Young, filed a federal lawsuit against the company that purchased Death Row out of bankruptcy, WideAwake-Death Row LLC.

According to the lawsuit, Dr. Dre has not seen any royalties from his groundbreaking hit album The Chronic since 1996, the year he left the label due to a strained relationship with Knight.

Death Row Records was put up for sale, when Knight lost a $107 million dollars default judgment to Michael and Lydia Harris.

The Harris’ claimed they invested $1 million dollars, but were cut out of profits by Knight.

WideAwake-Death Row Records LLC purchased the storied gangsta rap label and all of its assets for $18 million dollars during a sale in 2008.

Dre claims the new owners, who have issued releases and reissues by Snoop Dogg and Kurupt, are selling digital, remastered copies of The Chronic and The Chronic Re-Lit, both without his permission.

Ownership of the label is still in question.

In November of 2009, Laura Lavi, who claims to be the sole CEO of Wideawake-Death Row LLC., accused co-owners New Solutions Financials of diverting funds and assets illegally.
