KRS-One recently sat down with N.O.R.E and DJ EFN on their Drink Champs podcast to discuss rappers writing their own lyrics. KRS-One says he doesn’t have an issue if rappers get a little help with their lyrics. They naturally discussed the allegations surrounding Drake and his ghostwriters. KRS believes that it diminishes him in front of those that write their own lyrics, however he wants you to look at the entire art form of rap and emceeing. He said now when it comes to those that spit the raw from their own heart you have to step up to the plate on that level, but he basically says whether a person wrote it or not one can still deliver some great music. KRS said,
“If you have a dope writer that can make you sound like something, go ahead and get with dude. I don’t give a f*ck where it comes from. There are secrets in Hip Hop. The dopest dudes had dudes writing for them. If Rakim came to me with a rhyme. I’d say that sh*t.”
