Leonard Nimoy, who gained the affections of millions as Mr. Spock, has died at the age of 83.

The actor played the stoic alien character for years, helping propel Star Trek into a television, film and cult classic franchise.

Friday, Nimoy succumbed to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease from years of smoking.

Nimoy’s influence was evident in pop cuture, but in Hip-Hop, rapper/singer/producers Pharrell adopted the famous Vulcan hand sign for his Star Trak recording label with The Neptunes.
