Kendrick Lamar Says Competitors Need To "Try Harder"

(AllHipHop News) Kendrick Lamar does not seem too impressed by any of the responses sent at him after his “Control” verse shook the industry; including one recorded by Meek Mill. Kendrick sent subliminal shots at the MMG rapper during a show in New York City after Meek released the track “Ooh Kill Em”, and The Black Hippy member has a message to anyone else that recorded response tracks as well.

“They need to try harder,” Kendrick told TMZ. “[Jay Z] that’s the big homie, but everybody else got to try harder.” Kendrick did not answer the pap’s direct question about Meek’s “Ohh Kill Em.”

Meek Mill told MTV News that he spoke with Kendrick at Jay Z’s Made In America Festival. The Philadelphia native revealed that he told K. Dot that he had to figure out how to respond to him in a respectful way, because he felt Kendrick’s verse was in friendly competition and not meant to be disrespectful.

“I’m from Philly, when somebody comes at you, they come at you in a very disrespectful way, like they’re gonna kill your mother in their raps and all types of stuff,” said Meek. “So I was just thinking of a way I could keep it respectful, but still talk that work so you know that I mean business.”

K Dot might be running teen’s backpacks but Meek Mill, along with Drake is running the muthafucking game right now.

    • Sadly, this is true….but they aren’t running it because of skill, more like they were chosen to promote the feminization of the Blackman.

      • Arrie Mental Woodard

Edo, who is promoting the feminization.. MMG? or rappers as a whole? i know you got some insight behind your statement fam!!

      • I won’t say MMG promotes feminization, although they do seem to be promoting Bish@$$ne$$ & Corrections Corporation of America (Private Prisons…think about it…who makes better commercials advertisng prison than officer Fawlse?) and without knocking Drake’s hustle, I will say this, music is very powerful.

Back in the 60’s, songs that charted were James Brown’s “Say It Loud : I’m Black & I’m Proud! (Which was a response to his LL Cool J’s “Accidental Racist” song of the day ) & Aretha Franklin’s “R.E.S.P.E.C.T.”…& then there was a rebellion / riot.

Then came the dope, coke, crack, etc., until Public Enemy’s “Nation Of Millions” & KRS One’s “By Any Means Necessary” set off consciousness in rap. Then we had the Rodney King Riots.

The more self respect you have, the less you are likely to let people violate you.

We went from “Don’t Believe The Hype” to “Everyday I’m Hustling” in one generation… look at that lost generation now, jobless, locked up, under educated or dead.

It isn’t a coincidence, nor should it be viewed as one.

        Tell ’em DOG!!!

    • om3n78

sad but drake is on top but meek i feel its more what lable he on his cd was trash and didnt sell.Cass killed him twice But mmg keep makeing moves so it look like he hot and the cash is heavy so we pretty much being fooled

      • Arrie Mental Woodard

yo do they play whole albums in clubs….NO….. half of the people on here probably dont even buy the albums just find a sight and download. if you go into a club and Meek’s intro comes on the club mufuggies go bananas…singing the ish at the top of their lungs… they all have their own lane. A balance in hip hop is needed. Meek doing his thing, how are you being fooled. That man got his own life, none of these rappers is fooling me bcuz i got my own life and dont live and die by their music

      • om3n78

being fooled thinking they music the truth are they really not talking bout who gangsta are not r how they life only speaking on music and meek 2 me only has like 5hot joints..but as a lable they winning mmg on top period

    • Dubz

My dude said Kdot running the backpacks but then said Drake running the game??? Drake got girls and kids buying his albums…Meek Mill aint selling and that GKMC is not a teeny popper album….this shit is funny.

    • Tony G.

u stupid ass..meek aint running shit but twitter and instagram…eat a phat one u lame ass

  • TruthSerum

This kids ego is outta control for a dude with one hit album under his belt. I mean, granted, he is alot better then the trash on the radio but considering the times we’re living in, that doesn’t really count for much, it’s like saying you were the best Heavyweight Boxer in the early 90’s when washed up 50 year Old George Foreman was still a title contender…….And, regardless of how irrelevant you think alot of these cats are, Kendrick started all this goofiness with that verse and has been hiding behind the “I sell more records so its not worth my time” cop-out to avoid acknowledging these dudes are kinda goin in on him…….. Out of all the cats who have called him out, and who’s he respond to……….Meek Millz lol…….. Talk about only picking the fights you know you can win smh Yeah he might sell the most records but he’s really the least capable of all the cats who have responded. If Kendrick really wanted to prove himself like that “Control” verse implied, he’d respond to Papoose, he might only sell a few thousand records but at least it would making for an entertaining war of words……..

    • Pap will end K Dots career. So will Joe Budden, and you know it’s a wrap when Budden roasts you over your own beat.

K Dot has industry backing, but he is really just a paper champion the industry is backing….kinda like Don King holding the Heavy Weight Title for 7 yrs through John Ruiz.

Say what you want about Big George, he’s a beast….so is his little brother, Bernard Pop’Kins. Bad analogy. Big George was the young Mike Tyson of his day.

Lyrically, K Dot is trash, a mediocre MC at best.

Mos Def, Immortal Tech, Krs One are just a few of the MC’s that don’t claim to be King, but could get elected president.
West Coast Hip Hop has never been lyrically advanced with the flow. Even PARIS, possibly the hardest & dopest MC from the West Coast wasn’t really considered an MC, but more of a down @$$, hardcore, angry, not giving a Fugg type Mudda Chucka, that Hip Hop could relate too.

The flip side is, Control, is the official Battle beat of Hip Hop because of him, so for that, he gets mad props & a pa$$.

      • JerZeBoy

I cosign the Buddens comment – Kdot can spit but people weren’t saying how dope the verse was, they only bring it up because he name dropped a ton of people and the King of NY comment, otherwise it would have been overlooked.

      • Would have never heard it if he didn’t name drop & call himself the King!

      • Jeffrey Wilson

I agree with you about Paris. I used to rock that on cassette. I think you should throw in Del and Heiro crew as lyrically on top but people sleep on.

Also I think Killer Mike is a young Ice Cube and Chuck D into one.

      • Del is Cube’s cousin, and is into singing now.
        (Handsome Boys Club?)

Killer Mike is Cube & Chuck….sometimes, but I guess since Cube isn’t always Chuck, that analogy is still tight.

      • Jeffrey Wilson

I just think that about Killer Mike because he can do political, angry, sometimes gangster stuff, but mostly because he can do these things without race bashing white people.

Don’t sleep on Del. He is dope. Check out his stuff. I think No need for alarm and I wish my brother George was… is his best stuff

      • Yeah, Killer Mike is the truth & Del, honestly, was better than Cube, it’s just that Cube was more hardcore.

      • $5422264

I think Chuuwee is the absolute best of all the young MCs and he’s from Sacramento.

      • That may be true, but peep how he doesn’t have to say it…he lets his skillz speak for him.

He knows we (His brothers & sisters) are the ones who make him #1, not chart position.

Even though he may not have the charts on fiyah, he’s still hotter than Richard Pryor..(Post Mort-em)

      • $5422264

Good point. I think it’s like one of the earlier comments said that Lamar is gettin a bit of an ego with all the attention and next level of lifestyle he’s experiencing. Hopefully his sound don’t change but we’ll see.
I’m trippin off how our avatars got this shyt looking like Wild Kingdom! haha

      • Oh ‘Chet! I just peeped that!
All we need is JohnBlacksad & MadVillian to run the jungle.

K Dot has Dre’s backing & gassing, but he ain’t fugging with Chuuwee or any of the established old heads, but he is creating that buzz, on the business end, he’s winning & earned a spot in Hip Hop history, but that spot is indicative of the signs of the times.

      • Fugg NY rappers, you need to Kill yourself!

    • Tony G.

Kendrick aint hiding me one interview where he said I sold more albums..etc etc…he responded to Tweet Millz in this vid cuz that’s who the man asked him about

  • Pingback: Kendrick Lamar Says Competitors Need To “try Harder” |

  • Too bad he’s only responding to those that are in the current record sell running. I believe Budens response was solid. Its just that Buden doesnt currently have a record out in the runnings of a kendrick or Meek. Another thing, it seems like his demeanor has changed a lot over the last few months. He use to be so humble and seemed like a cool cat. This video makes him look like an arrogant ass clown. Thats what happens when you get a little praise and fame, let all the ish go to your head. All and all, the kid is good at what he does, better than half the rappers out now, he can stand on his pedestal proudly and speak his mind.

    • Tony G.

      he answered a question

      • You ol’ double quarter pounder wit cheese face lookin ass muuuhh fuuuuhhhk, Ol’ Kellogs Rice Crispy Treat knee cap having ass muhh fuuuhk… Ol’ I cant beleive its not butter by the ear lobes lookin ass muhhh fuuuhhhk -_-

  • MrNoName2K

LOL! This nigga really feeling himself. Ok the verse was ok, wasnt all super hyped up like everyone made it out to be. Just a obvious attempt to kick up dust to get attention and why not direct at the city where you know rappers going to stand up and puff they chest out. Hell( with all due respect) you can throw a rock blindly in NYC and hit a “rapper”. Lol like I said, he played yall and won. Man promotion off that one bar from NYC..
