Wu-Tang Clan Fans Devise A Plan To Give Away $5 Million Album For Free

(AllHipHop News) Unless you happened to have an extra five million dollars in your bank account, the likelihood you will be able to own the new Wu-Tang Clan album Once Upon a Time in Shaolin is very low. That’s because only one copy of the LP is being given to the highest bidder, and according to RZA that amount now stands in the 7-figure range.

Two Wu fans have created a plan for the masses to get access to the project. Russell Meyer and Calvin Okoth-Obbo started a Kickstarter campaign to purchase the album. If they raise enough money to outbid other potential buyers, they plan to release the music for free.

The description for Once Upon A Time In Shaolin – For Wu Fans, For Wu People reads:

For all the fans who won’t be able to pay 30-50 bucks to listen to a double album in one sitting, let’s raise enough money to buy this album and then turn around and give it away for free. Wu members can still get their CREAM and the rest of us get to enjoy an epic album instead of some uber rich bastard keeping it to himself like a collector’s item.

As the founder of this group I pledge to not keep a single penny of the money raised. Every cent will be bid to win the album. If we don’t get it then everyone gets their money back.

“I can’t imagine RZA being upset if enough Wu-Tang fans get together and raise enough money to purchase [the album],” said Meyer. “We don’t want some guy in Dubai who literally has money to burn to buy it as a collector item that only six people will get to listen to.”

The campaign will run until June 9th. As of press time, 245 backers have contributed $1,487 of the $5 million goal.

I am honestly, realistically willing to put $20-$25 down… it’d be cool if it works

Somehow, someway… I think we’re gonna get to hear this album eitherway

Beware, RZA has ripped off hundreds of fans who paid for stuff over a year ago, through Soul Temple records, our money was taken and nothing has shipped. RZA has said several times that everything is going to be taken care of, but then doesnt do anything. Ive been a wu fan for 20 years, but i unfortunately dont see myself giving them anymore money until I get what I paid for. check out the Boycott Soul Temple Records facebook page, Im one of hundreds of people who were ripped off

  • Man what if…what if somebody does outbid these fans for say 5.5 mil. What if the album is garbage…I doubt it highly…but what if? That would be a very expensive coaster man….I fk with the WU but Rae acting like he don’t wanna be on there….without him what yall think about that? Ol dirt Mcgirt already gon…I would hate for the album to be wack, without Rae and dirt dogg I’m kinda skeptical. Hope they got a healthy dose of ghost on that bitch tho…

    • FRUKOH

      it aint wu without rae

      • ILLAmusic

Rae is on this…he most likely won’t be on a better tomorrow

  • I really wanna hear how they gon sound and what they have to say, especially since they done got older.

What does a $5 million dollar album sound like. Hopefully nothing like 8 Diagrams. That’s like buying a scooter for the price of a jet.

  • Montezuma1

RZA has a lisp. End of story.

  • Truth Powell

This isn’t an album. This is a bunch of verses pieced together with a cheap producer. This is Wu Killa Beez vol 3 at best. I love Wu but I’m not interested.

  • hpbudda

Rza said rae on this one, he not on “a better tomorrow”…which is the album for the masses

  • FRUKOH

rza production been wack for too long, I wouldnt pay $5 for this album

  • brotha_man

i was probably gonna get it for free regardless. if rae aint on it dont want to hear it

    • Terrance Goodman

N he already said it was lack luster so I agree

  • Reblogged this on HUEY mix wit RILEY.

  • Ain’t No Future In Yo Frontin’

Broke people have to be creative i guess (no disrespect)

Sounds like a grand marketing scheme. Promote two albums when in actuality there is only one. Get five mill off the rip and build up interest for an album they were going to release anyway. This album for the masses is a bunch of leftover tracks that they didn’t plan to use anyway besides teasers to gauge interest. No way they would release that lackluster single as their first comeback record. Just my opinion.
