Charlamagne Tha God: 50 Cent Can't Get Back To Where He Was Musically (POLL)

(AllHipHop News) With the sales expectations for 50 Cent’s latest album Animal Ambition hovering around 35,000 units, there are many observers who believe the G-Unit leader’s music career has reached its plateau. One of the those people is The Breakfast Club’s Charlamagne Tha God.

During an interview with VLAD TV, the radio host commented on whether he thought 50 can get back to where he was at the height of his musical output. He also compared 50’s career trajectory to other rappers like 2 Chainz, Jeezy, T.I. and Jay Z.

Charlamagne said:

Nobody can ever get back to where they were. That’s just the nature of the game… Tity Boi and Dolla and Playaz Circle never got to that level level. They made great music. I love both they albums… 2 Chainz came out as a whole new person – reinvented himself. He was a rookie and he got to that peak. So, once you get to that level it ain’t never about being that new, hot guy anymore. Cause that new, hot guy is that new, hot guy. After that it’s just about being consistent and maintaining. Like how Jeezy’s done. Jeezy was that new, hot guy at one time. He was consistent and maintained.

That’s why it’s sometimes better to have careers almost like Jay Z and T.I. Reasonable Doubt came out critically acclaimed album, commercially it didn’t do so well. But if you watch Jay Z just grew and grew and grew with every album. Same thing with T.I. I’m Serious, critically acclaimed didn’t sell s**t. He got dropped from the label…But he grew. He grew, grew, and grew and got to a certain point.

After a while, like with 50, came out red-hot. 10 million records sold. Boom, right on top of that – G-Unit album. Boom, four million records sold. Massacre album sold like 10 million records. He capitalized off his moment. From that point on it was just about being consistent. And I think up until his last album he was consistent. Cause his last album really didn’t sell well, but 50 Cent is a brand. 50 Cent has maintained relevancy at being 50 Cent which is great.

The outspoken radio/TV personality added that Fiddy has “maintained” so that people “care about his name” which is enough for someone who has been in the game as long as 50 has.

What do you think? Take the poll below.

  • Papi Peligro

Over. 50 over. Its like Temptation doing Reunion tours. 3-6 Gunit all of them done. Juicy J has plateaued he’s done. Its over. You have to see the writing on the wall and start moving stuff in a different direction. Jay Z or somebody can stay relevant cause they have topics. Nas relevant cause he has topics. 50 still trying to get club play. ITS OVER.

    • The Legendary Troll

jay knows how to reinvent himself. this last album he dropped is almost like a whole new person from his earlier stuff.

      • Papi Peligro

Nah. It wasn’t really a reinvention. He still talking about the same things. Money. He just took the extravagance to a higher level. And replaced ho3s for wifey songs. That last album lost me. I

  • johnblacksad

Like we needed Charlamagne Tha God to know that… smh

always these titles makin it sound like beef or something

  • dehova

I think he wants to be the next Slowbucks.

  • The Legendary Troll

its over bro. Only way 50 will be hot again is if he reinvents himself

  • Ain’t No Future In Yo Frontin’

Who cares what this faggot Charlamagne has got to say? Stand your ground when some dudes come to confront you, you bitch. As far as 50 goes .. yeah he’s over.

  • TopShotta

He did his thing, and now it’s over; the only mistake I thought 50 made was not building and diversifing his roster for the most part the entire label evolved around 50″ so when he lost steam ..the label lost steam..but he still did his thing …. it’s the cycle fame! Only JayZ can go away and come back and still sell a million. He had banks/buck/game etc..but none of them could take it to the next it because 50 wanted to be the main one in the spot light and did not want anyone else to shine or was the rest of the team lacking to take themselves to the next level?

    • Wholetime

jay left because of fif dont ever forget that. he retired because he aint wanna sell 200 thousand first week while fif was selling 1 mill. he aint want to drop an album that might go plat after a year while fif was going plat first week and 5 times plat by year end. Plus as much an asshole fif can be i think he knew if he stayed in the game at that point while fif was playing target practice with rap niggaz that fif would have come for his head and crushed him at that point. And only thing that keeps that nigga hot now for real is ye and bey .. his shit sucks to me. I respect slim dont get it fucked up but i dont like his shit i have never brought a jay-z album and never bumped it in my whip ever

  • Tyfromthechi

50 will never sell 10 mill again but he could get hot again and u can’t count 50 out

  • Obi Won

I’m a 50 fan, and even I know that its over, in regards to sales anyway. Music has changed dramatically since The Massacre, hell since Curtis. Curtis was probably his last good selling album and that was bc of the hype and comp it had with Kanye (that was good for hip hop in General). But I wouldn’t say its 50’s fault, times and music has changed. Shiiiidd, the music he makes isn’t even popular anymore. That “slug in a hat” music has died down. Its still around but its really the time for the “Cool Kids” time to shine. The dudes who weren’t really hood, but were in the neighborhood outside (KRIT, Cole, Kendrick, Wale etc..)

    • dehova

I think he’s damned either way. I was just about to disagree with you then came to this conclusion. If he continues the dissing people get bored (as I have with all the ‘money and better bitch than you’ talk. Then if he changes it up (Ayo technology) people say he’s going soft. Cha, he needs to do an LL. Chill, come back with a posse cut on which some upstart pisses him off and then come again

  • dee

I’ll make my judgement after the g-unit album

  • Slaughtr

I’m NOT A JAY Z FAN, and in fact fifs shine is not over so get the fck off Jzs dick. How J reinvented hisself I’m puzzled. I respect 50 because he keeps it real wether anybody likes his methods or not. This rap shyt is just what it is rap shit not hip hop so I wish niggaz would stop thinking todays rap is hip hop.

  • Hector G

sorry Charlemagne but your wack comparison of titty 2 chainz to 50 cent isn’t flyin with me. artists like 2 chainz are PISS compared to 50.

Ya’ll know 50 gonna get at Charlamagne for this right???

  • GP

    who cares!

  • Rico

Charlamange about to get “Slow Bucked”

    • trilltalk1

  • RayStantz

He’s not gonna get back to GRODT but he can get off that Candy Shop shied and still be appealing to people. I like a lot of his new music. It sounds more organic now than his last couple of albums/mixtapes. He just needs to keep putting out consistently good music and with his own label/indie route, he has no excuses now. Show and prove…

  • IceBergSlim

Yes and as I said before when this cat first came out I was on it.. I just new this cat was going to change the game. He tried but he took the wrong path, he kept going at dudes for dumb reasons. Yeah Pac was beefing wit different cats to but the difference them dudes was coming at him and he only responeded when it was warranted and he had to address it. 50 cent this bammas kept going to various dudes and refused to focus on his music also talk crap about Dr. Dre and as we all know do not bite the hand that feeds you. It was cool that he made that investment and made a nice piece of change but he lost focus. Then he started talking about his crew and then he re-unites with them man I wouldn’t even want to roll wit a cat like him he has the right name 50.. a 50/50 dude can not trust shady. He should focus on other business ventures and let the real rappers rap

  • djdyg

the same could be said for 99% of artists

50 is gonna check Charlamagne for saying this real shit.

  • What magne said is real. It’s hard to recapture those moments. The new album was pretty good, but I’d like to hear 50 on some different production. I even liked the idea of Pharrell producing a whole album by 50. That could be a classic.

  • baller187

fifty should stop rappin and enjoy his 100 mill, its getting embarassing

  • disqus_8gQkV1Y55t

There was nothing wrong with what charlamagne was actually on point. Album sales in hip hop are dead. Its a brand new game and if fif comes out and sells 10 thousand the first week it still doesn’t matter..only pop stars sell millions these days..

I keep telling people that blogsites are gaining more power everyday and will be the destruction of black music as we know it. but people think i’m kidding.
Artist / Entertainers can’t be themselves anymore. everyone has turned into a music A&R and industry expert. but trust the black community to tear down the R&B / HIP-HOP artists, dickride the generic ones and throw away and alienate the legends who have put in work. it’s sad.

  • BakingSodaFree

50 been done so why is this even a topic? Nobody has been checking for 50 musically for a while now. He ethered himself with wack music and foolish antics.
