Dr. Dre's Son Explains Why His Father Did Not Want Him In N.W.A. Biopic

(AllHipHop News) As of today (June 26th), Ice Cube’s son O’Shea Jackson is the only relative of from the original N.W.A. group to have a starring role in the upcoming biopic, Straight Outta Compton. According to Dr. Dre’s son, not only did he try out for the role but his father was one of the people who decided against his son acting in the movie.

Dr. Dre’s son, Curtis Young recently appeared in the film My Trip To The Dark Side and will be appearing in a new film entitled Blame It On The Hustle. While Young’s acting career is burgeoning, he informed XXL that his biological father felt it was not enough to portray him in the upcoming N.W.A. biopic:

I actually tried out for the role, ’cause the casting company called me. But my father wanted somebody with more acting experience, and I haven’t been acting for a long time, so I’m happy for the guy that got the role. It’s one of those things where we want what’s best for the movie and for the film. I had a lot of fans that were upset about it, but whatever’s best for the film, that presents it in that light, then I’m for it.

Young was born on December 15, 1981 and first met Dre after a DNA test proved Dre to be Curtis’ biological father. Curtis currently has an album out on iTunes entitled Doctor’s  Note and an upcoming album Product Of My DNA that he has been working on since 2010:

It’s a story based on my life, what I’ve been through, and me finding out who my father was in a DNA test. Feel good music at the same time, but it’s gonna be more story tracks, more all-around talking about the struggles and me overcoming them. Really more personal, things I have to get off my chest. Let people understand who I am and know me for Curtis Young and not just as the son of Dr. Dre.

“I actually tried out for the role, ’cause the casting company called me. But my father wanted somebody with more acting experience.”

Good decision by Dr Dre and good for Curtis Young to understand it and not acting like a spoiled brat.

      • I can say Curtis rap skillz is alot better than his dad and his tracks are right on Dre’s heels, Curtis is very talented very much so….

    • Poseidon

Agreed. This looks like it’s gonna be a high quality film with the names of the people involved in the production and behind the camera. A lot of money is going into it and I’m sure they want to present it in the best light possible. Props to young Curtis for understanding the demand for high level industry professionalism. You can already tell it’s going to be one of the best rap bio-pics thus far. Might even exceed 8-Mile box office sales, who knows…..

    • Dope

He’s not a spoiled brat because he was a fully grown man with an average Compton life when he first learned Dre was his father.
Had he been raised in wealth and sheltered from real life from day one, then he’d probably be a brat.

  • Casor_Greener

NEver good to have to take a DNA test to determine your father….

  • Killuminati

i wish ice cube would have done the same…i want this movie to be good and have seasoned actors

    • BlazeA

Jason Mitchell (cast as Eazy E) was working in a kitchen when he auditioned. Though now it’s coming out that he does actually have some acting experience, truth is, these actors are mainly amateurs. It will be interesting to watch nonetheless.

      • Killuminati

        yea we can only hope…

  • Mr007

Know me for me, not my father…….yet you drop two albums that reference who your father is……..OK

    • W.E.B. Du Bois

YES – and the latest one called ” Product of My DNA ” — lol , foh

      • hoeyuno

Could you imagine though growing up in Compton then finding out when your in your early 20s that dr.dre is your pops…it probably hasn’t even fully soaked in yet…..can’t blame the kid for wanting to brag a bit…

      • Sean Taylor

        That’s nothing to brag about.

      • hoeyuno

Why not Sean? ? You always have something serious to say…Do you frequent the M.A.D.D. site also??

      • W.E.B. Du Bois

your missin’ the point of us respondin’ to what he said

  • Markus

I wonder if the movie will address the in house fighting and how honest they will be as far as each other’s roles to the group’s demise.

    • hahahaa!

But Ray ray put in all the hard work though.

  • AK

if it takes you 4 years to make album just give up.. but i see where he gets the lagging from..

    • Bruce

How long did your last album take?

      • AK

It shouldnt take more than a few months for the whole process, everyone is different but if your really working on it everyday could take anywhere from a couple weeks to a couple months record it all , than a month to mix and master and it should be ready . Of coarse if you work on it once a month its gonna take forever but that just means it aint a priority in the first place.

    • bigg dogg

u been workin at mcdonalds for 4 years…. jus give up

  • El Dogga
