THE TDE EMCEE SITS DOWN WITH THE BREAKFAST CLUB

(AllHipHop News) Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, and Ab-Soul have all dropped studio LPs over the last four years, but fans of the TDE camp have been waiting for Jay Rock’s project to hit stores. The Watts, California emcee is on the verge of releasing his 90059 next month, and he sat down with The Breakfast Club to talk about the album.

“Everybody was on my head like, ‘We’re supposed to wait until next year? I was like, ‘Nah, just hold it down. It’s coming,” explained Rock on the project’s delay. “Y’all want the Rock? Then pre-order the album. Then it’s gonna come.”

According to Jay Rock, his latest musical work is focused on the concept of trying to make it out of a tough environment and gang culture. The number 90059 is the zip code of neighborhood.

Rock was once connected to another famous Hip Hop imprint. His Follow Me Home project was released jointly between TDE and Strange Music, but Jay parted ways with Tech N9ne’s label.

“That’s family. I was blessed to be a part of their campaign,” said Rock. “I learned a lot from Tech.”

The interview also included Charlamagne Tha God asking Rock about co-writing in the TDE camp. The Black Hippy member addressed what he called the “Quentin Miller thing.”

“When we’re in the studio, it’s all about good vibes… We’re all pitching in,” he stated. “That’s they way you make good music. That’s the same way I feel the N.W.A. dudes did back in them days. It was like a party.”

He continued, “It ain’t like n*ggas are writing a whole paragraph for you… It ain’t always writing for other n*ggas. Not in our camp.”
