The Met Gala has some rumors.
In 2026, the conversation is less about fashion and more about who didn’t make the cut. There is a so-called “ban list,” but how many are real and which are speculative. The event’s tightly controlled guest list is now also a non-guest list.
At the center of the speculation is Anna Wintour, the longtime gatekeeper of the gala, who ultimately decides who ascends the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. While no official blacklist exists, Wintour herself has confirmed at least one permanent exclusion: Donald Trump. During a past appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, she stated plainly that Trump would not be invited back.
Beyond that, everything else falls into a murky mix of rumor and industry politics.
TV personality Tim Gunn is one of the banned one, who has long been rumored to be persona non grata after publicly sharing an unflattering story about Wintour. While Gunn has not confirmed any of this, his absence in recent years has kept the story alive.
Now, we can get to Kanye West and there are a number of reasons why he’s reportedly not allowed in the house. It seems to stem from his series of antisemitic remarks that also has him banished from most of Europe.
You already know about Nicki Minaj. The news finally caught up to our rumor. We had this way back in March! Nicki’s absence from the 2026 gala has sparked a lot of rumors. For the record, there is no confirmation of that claim, and yet, it is pretty much confirmed.

She had an eight-year run.
The only person publicly confirmed as unwelcome is Donald Trump. During an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Anna Wintour was asked who she would never invite back. Her answer was simple and direct: Trump. Now, that is a loud and proud, powerful statement.
The Met Gala not so much about banning people but making it so exclusive, only a few an afford it. But, it ain’t about money either.
Fashion houses typically purchase tables and fill them with celebrities so there’s that.
