Young Jeezy, T.I., Bone, Nominated For American Music Awards

Atlanta bred rappers Young Jeezy and T.I. and Cleveland’s Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and join chart dominators Beyonce, Akon and Justin Timberlake as nominees for the American Music Awards, which were on announced on Tuesday (October 9).

Young Jeezy, Bone and T.I., who have two nominations, will also go head-to-head with Beyonce, Linkin Park, Justin Timberlake and American Idol’s Chris Daughtry, who all have three nominations.

Young Jeezy’s The Inspiration will go head-to-head with T.I.’s Tip Vs. T.I.P. and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s Strength & Loyalty for Favorite Hip-Hop Album of the Year.

Bone scored nominations in the favorite Hip-Hop/Rap Group category, while fans of Young Jeezy, T.I. and Fabolous will battle it out for Favorite Male Artist of the Year.

Reggaeton rapper Daddy Yankee will go against Juan Luis Guerra y 440 and Jennifer Lopez for Favorite Latin Artist of the Year honors.

The American Music Awards will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and will take place on November 18th at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California.

For the first time in the 35-year-history of the American Music Awards, fans votes determine the winner by voting online in each category.

Nominees were originally selected by a balloting system compiled from data supplied by industry publications Radio & Records and Nielsen Soundscan, which tracks retail music sales.

The ballots were then sent to a national sampling of 15,000 people, who voted based on their musical preferences and how many albums they purchased each year.

After examining voting procedures of the past, management at AMA decided to opt for the Internet to gather votes, as opposed to the earlier method.

“The Internet allows us a way to bring millions of potential voters into the voting process,” said Terry Bateman, CEO of Dick Clark Productions, the company producing the AMA’s.

“Now instead of limiting the voting to thousands of people, millions of people will have the opportunity to vote,” Bateman said. “It is America’s awards show, so why not let the public choose which nominees win?”

Rappers Face Jail Time In UK Under Proposed Gay Rights Law

Rappers and musicians in the United Kingdom will face jail time under a new law being created which will outlaw hateful lyrics against homosexuals.

According to Justice Secretary Jack Straw, the proposed law will cover gay men, women and bisexual people, as well as transsexuals and disabled people.

“It is a measure of how far we have come as a society in the last 10 years that we are now appalled by hatred and invective directed at people on the basis of their sexuality,” Justice Secretary Jack Straw told reporters.

Ben Summerskill of gay rights organization Stonewall said he was “delighted” and that the law would help protect gays and lesbians from hateful lyrics and actions.

“We refuse to accept any longer that there’s no connection between extreme rap lyrics calling for gay people to be attacked or fundamentalist claims that all gay people are pedophiles, and the epidemic of anti-gay violence disfiguring Britain’s streets,” Summerskill told The BBC. “We anticipate, as always, a tough battle with our traditional opponents in the House of Lords but remain determined to secure complete equality in the criminal law.”

The new proposal comes on the heels of the controversial and recently passed Racial and Religious Hatred Act, which received Royal Assent in 2006.

The law does not prohibit the criticism of gays or lesbians, but protects them from calls of violence from detractors, because of their sexual orientation.

Anyone convicted of an offense under the act could face up to seven years in jail.

“Fighting hatred, prejudice and discrimination will be at the heart of everything this government does,” added Equalities Secretary Harriet Harman.

Hip-Hop Rumors: New Jay-Z Rumors! Illseed Rides For Tribe! Common Gets Kerry?

Never Fear – Jim Jones is still – BALLLLLLIN! The deal is in stone and its a joint venture. Look for the story in the news. JIM JONES BALLIN’ TOO SOON?We heard the chit-chat that Jim Jones had signed some super duper dope deal with Columbia and Rick Rubin and the gang were ready to move. But there has been speculation that Jim might have jumped the gun. There is supposedly a very detailed and intense legal process that must be working out before all is finalized. I guess we’ll see. COMMON GETTING’ IT, GET, GET, GETTING’ KERRY WASHINGTON!I thought Kerry Washington liked the other man, not the brother man. If that’s the case, that’s your flavor, but I hear she might have had a change of heart or something. My VA connection LG told me that Kerry with Com was at the Norva show in Norfolk, VA. They say Virginia is for lovers and this seems to be the case with these two. Oh yea, Common and Q-Tip have a group coming out called The Standard. Good. Maybe they will ban together to set the “standard” and get rid of posers. Speaking of…LUPE FIASCO– PEACE OUT.”[Tribe] didn’t sell 10 million records, so why would people think they had a blanket on the world like that? MC Hammer was way more popular to me than Tribe Called Quest.”OK…I wasn’t going to say anything about this, but now I have to. I am disgusted beyond words. First, understand, I was once one of Lupe Fiasco’s most ardent supporters (click the link). I used a big word like ardent, because I believed. Now, after this “Fiascogate” thing. I have to call it a day.Seems like Lupus has created more than a fiasco (yeah it sucked, sue me). Why would this non-selling record j####### talk about sales and popularity right after 1) Tribe was honored, 2) after he sold triple balsa wood and 3) he’s nothing in the big picture of Hip-Hop. What began as a tribute on a large stage at Hip-Hop Honors devolved into a tet-a-te with Hip-Hop itself when Lupus forgot the words to “Electric Relaxation.” Forgotten lyrics happen to the best of performers in the moment, but the aftermath is what’s sad. He was already looking foolish and then he went and opened his mouth (or in his case, typed on okayplayer.com). ATCQ is greater than Lupus. I ride for them like I ride for Pun. I smacked the spit out of somebody’s mouth in the early 90’s for saying some foolishness about Rakim being wack and he’s not even my favorite rapper! That wasn’t right, but there are some things you just don’t say. I hope that the robot dancer has alienated his fans, stans and future stans. “Those hip hop elitists who think [Tribe] hold the crown and the copyright to hip hop, I listen to 8Ball & MJG and I think they’re better than you [Tribe].”-VibeI’m beside myself at the blatant disrespect by this clown. If you are a Hip-Hop head, you need to be as sickened as I am. Q-Tip, Phife, Ali and Jarobi – I got ya back homies And shout out to 8 Ball and MjG…y’all crazy dope too. CANIBUS RETIRED?I’m not sure, I can’t confirm, but I am getting word that the Canibus man has called it a day and retired. Now, this isn’t confirmed, but a source at his old label tipped me off that the man regarded as one of the best battle rappers ever is turning it in. I think it had – in part – to do with the poor sales of his last CD, For Whom The Bell Tolls – didn’t sell too great. Since, I’m not sure, I did a lil’ research. I didn’t find much, but a lot of his websites haven’t been updated and stuff. If this is true, we’ll be sad.Click here to read an editorial on Canibus called “Lyricist’s Last Stand.” What would have happened if Canibus had blown up the way DMX, Jay-Z, Ja Rule and them had at the time? Just for kicks, somebody in the Ill Community is suggesting that Cani just signed to Murder Inc. I have a hard time believing that, yet there is an interview that seems to refute the rumors. CASSIDY IS MAKING BEATS?What does Cassidy have in common with The Game, T.I., and Snoop? I don’t know what the deal is, but I heard that Cassidy is now making music. That’s right, I heard Cassidy is making beats! You know, I have yet to hear any of his work but I’m sure he’s ill. I hope he didn’t start this just to avoid paying Swizzie. Lol.JAY-Z TIMEI heard Jay-Z had a nice little conference call with a bunch of media and some interesting things came out of it. We all know that American Gangster is coming out and we’ve seen tracklistings and whatever. Well, I heard that – in addition to the songs we know about – I hear that Timbaland might make the album. Kanye submitted two beats, but Hov didn’t take either. Also, there is the matter of “Dead Presidents III” and that song is FIRE – even though it is just a snippet. It sounds like a mythological update of the original. BLUE MAGIC – DISAPPEARS?Also, I heard that the video for “Blue Magic” will not becoming out. I heard that Jay has expressed reservations about releasing the video and now “Roc Boys” has leaked…that’s the second single. How’s the second single going to come out before the first single’s vid? Click here to listen to “Roc Boys,” a radio rip.Do you guys remember Pretty Ugly? I do, he’s right up the way from DE in Philly. He’s dropped a pretty powerful Jay-Z diss that he’s posted at his myspace page. Click here to listen to “Question to Jay-Z.”Now, I declare that this is speculation, not a rumor or anything I have heard in the streets. KANYE VS MOS DEF – PART 2!You thought it was over? Nah…They did it again like Brooklyn!

FOXY BROWN – MEET MAN WITH CLUBI might lay off the Foxy Brown rumors! She’s not in love with the New York papers. In her new CD, she says, “So, hop off my d**k, I got a 32-shot clip aimed at Page Six.” OUCH. Anyway, peep this clip of a person that looks just like Foxy Brown getting into an altercation with a man in traffic. I think it is Foxy…look at it…you can tell. It was looking really cool until the man had the club! Cheater! What were you gonna do? Beat up Foxy Brown!?!

Shout out to Lorenzo the PR Prince.ILLSEED’S QUICKIESShout out to Ken P, my rumor homey from another mother.  Rumor has it Tyra Banks has new sex tape. New? Was there an old one I missed?Mike Vick is probably going to have to pay back that $20 million to the Falcons. Wow. Stanley Burrell is dead, but that’s not MC Hammer! A guy with the same name as the rappin’ OG passed away. J-Lo has finally confirmed her pregnancy, not that anyone cares at this point. Bobby Brown had a heart attack. Don’t be cruel.RIP to Christopher Reeves AKA Superman who died 3 years ago, yesterday. That guy seemed so cool. I felt like I knew him.  Lil Wayne is out of the bing.Boss Up – let the boycott begin! GHOSTFACE ALBUM THE SAME DAY AS WU TANG?Is this a Def Jam CD? This is odd to me!

RICH BOY! “LETS GET THIS PAPER!”This is the song of the YEAR. That’s right! I’m saying it! The song of the year. Here is the rumor. Ma$e is on the original version of the song, but is mysteriously missing from the video. His voice could have been included even if he couldn’t be in it. Could it be some of  the

See her report and editorial below:Today was a sad day in Cleveland. I’m sure you saw it on CNN. Today a 14-year-old Cleveland boy shot 4 people. Two teachers and two students. I’m writing because I”m frustrated that the media is making it a poverty issue. The school Success Tech High School is one of the premiere schools in Cleveland with less than 200 students, 90% + well on their way to college. The real issue that no one seems to be addressing is that it was a CHILD that did the shooting, that needed help – mentally and emotionally. According to a teacher who tutored the young man she said he was bi-polor and it was possible him missed his meds. I just think that we need to do better in reaching out to these kids, no matter the race or the poverty lines…pain is pain. Lydia Caesar: Shining Through

Nowadays it’s harder than ever for new artists to stand out in the ever so competitive world of independent music. One emerging young female singer from Queens, New York, Lydia Caesar, is familiar with that grind all too well. With N.Y.C. being the most concentrated place for music artists to shine through, Lydia managed to capture the interest of many with her remix of Musiq Soulchild’s “Buddy.” As her voice graces stages and mixtapes, her hustle doesn’t stop there. Besides being a mother and a student, her accessories line and a budding acting career keep Ms. Caesar busy when she’s not making music. On the Judgment Day of Kanye vs. 50, we caught up with Lydia Caesar in New York right across the street from Kanye West greeting his fans at the Virgin Megastore. With that symbolic power of musical commerce, Lydia shared with us her plans to join that race as a star-runner. AllHipHop.com Alternatives: Why did you feel it was necessary to remix the song “Buddy”?Lydia Caesar: I love the song. I felt the song was hot and I personally didn’t think that the song meant what people said it meant. I really just thought it was kinda like his first single that ever came out [“Jusfriends”].AHHA: When I interviewed Musiq Soulchild he felt that you can be both lovers and friends with a woman. After hearing your remix it seems as though you think otherwise?Lydia: No, I think that you can be both. I just don’t think it’s cool to be just sex partners, at least not for me. If you have a mutual agreement then okay, but for me I think it’s better [when it’s] something with some substance. If you can find both that’s amazing, you can be friends and you can also be lovers and partners and all of that stuff. So I do think that you can be both. If my remix says otherwise, I’m sorry! I didn’t mean for it to come off like that. I wanted it to [show that] it’s cool to be buddies, but I want it to be more than that. I wanna be your woman, I wanna be your lady. I don’t want to be just some girl you’re sleeping with. AHHA: You seem to have your hands full with being a mother, student and having your own company. What still motivates you to pursue a career in music?Lydia: I feel it was a gift, I love to sing. I’ve been singing since I was about five in church, so I would say that is the major motivating factor. And also other music, I really vibe off of hearing other music. It inspires me so much where I feel like I can give other people the feeling that is given to me by artists out there. John Mayer is like one of my favorites right now. I love Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, Beyonce.  I think she’s an amazing singer, she’s a great entertainer. I love John Legend. Kanye [is a] good Hip-Hop artist.AHHA: You just mentioned Kanye, are you into Hip-Hop?Lydia: I’m into Hip-Hop, I would say not a whole lot. I do like more conscious Hip-Hop so more along the lines of Mos Def, Common and Kanye. I like Jay-Z, he’s dope.AHHA: With that whole thing between 50 cent and Kanye West…Lydia: I’m all for Kanye West, all day! I just think he’s a better artist. 50 Cent is good too, but if I had to choose I’m on team Kanye. AHHA: Do you have any worries raising a child while pursuing your entertainment career?Lydia: Sometimes. I feel that I might not be able to be with her as much. I wonder if I’m ever blessed to be able to go on tour, am I going to be able to bring her with me. I think about things like that but I know that this is what I’m supposed to do. Her father is a producer and I’m a singer, he’s a musician so it’s in her. She comes to the studio with me all the time. She sings in the car all the way to the studio. She always sees me singing. She’s with me when I’m writing my songs. Sometimes it concerns me, but I also think it’s gonna benefit her in her future. AHHA: Being that you’re so young and involved in so many ventures, how important is it to you not to limit yourself to just singing?Lydia: I think it’s important because I feel like I’m a well-versed individual. Like my accessories line – I love to create. I love it! It’s something that I just stumbled upon for myself, just making jewelry for myself. I got such a good response from people, I feel like it’s something else that I need to give to others. I know how it makes me feel when I get a hot piece of jewelry or a hot accessory, you know what I mean? To be involved in acting, these are all gifts that God has given me. I don’t want to limit myself, I want to try and give them all back. AHHA: What do you end up giving most of your time to?Lydia: Music. I would honestly say I’m giving like 90% of myself to music. My accessories line is not getting what it needs but, I feel like if you have your hands in too much, you’ll be giving a little to each. Right now I’m focusing mostly on my music, and I feel once I get some sense of stability where that’s concerned, I’ll be able to do the other things also. AHHA: Do you have any future plans for your company Caesarwest Designs, like a clothing line for example?Lydia: I don’t see that. I see more of a complete accessories line. Right now we just do earrings. I can see [it] becoming more of an accessories line where we can make bags, belts, shoes, all of that – even glasses. I don’t really see clothing, but hey if God would open that door for me then I would gladly walk in.AHHA: In today’s industry it’s not only about the talent anymore, but a marketable image and a great live performance. How do you set out to fulfill those expectations?Lydia: Practice, practice, practice. Always making sure that you’re representing yourself well. You don’t have to put on your heels all the time but still try to look cute and approachable; still try to look like an artist. For me, honestly it’s just who I am. I’ve always been very loud and funky when it comes to how I dress. So it works out. I don’t necessarily need a stylist, I can style myself which is great cause it saves money. Making sure that when your fans hear you on your CD and then they see you live, they’re not disappointed. I like to have a better live performance than my CD. I like for people to be like wow, she’s even better live. It also takes doing shows. I’ve seen a tremendous difference in myself from my first show and where I am now. AHHA: How is it that you have such a natural performance?Lydia: It’s two things. It’s one, being connected with my music ‘cause it’s all mine. I write everything so I feel comfortable with it. A lot of time you can tell the difference between when I’m doing a cover song and when I’m doing my song.  Also, I’m an actress so it helps. I’m studying acting in school. It’s just a part of my personality. I think that comes across on the stage so I have a sense of comfort and I think people can see that. AHHA: With you studying theater, what character portrays Lydia Caesar best?Lydia: Oh my gosh, that’s so hard. I would choose a Disney character. I would say Ariel from The Little Mermaid. I would say Ariel because she was very free spirited. She knew what she wanted, she wanted Prince Eric. She wanted to live outside of the ocean and she did that. Using her as an example, she got into some trouble along the way. I find that’s my story a lot of times. I have what I want, set it my mind, and I’m gonna do it. A lot of time that’s not always the best, sometimes you have to listen to others around you and take advice. But I’m very, very bull-headed and opinionated.AHHA: Being that you’re still in college, do you go out to party with your friends? Lydia: Definitely go out with my friends, we go out dancing and have a good time. I would say mostly what we do for fun is we go eat. We love food, we’re all mad greedy. I also like to go to other shows, seeing other artists on the come up. I saw Beyonce in concert at the Garden – that was amazing. I love music. If I can get out and see other performers I do that too for like down time.AHHA: What is your favorite food?Lydia: Spanish food. I love spanish food. But I also love, West Indian food too. I’m West Indian so, I love like the jerk chicken and curry goat and oxtail, plantains. I also wasn’t raised eating Spanish food, so once I was up on it I’m addicted. AHHA: Do you have an album in the works?Lydia: I’m looking to hopefully release my album in February. I’ve been recording for three years now.  I’m taking my time with it, I actually have enough material to put an album out within the next month or so. But I’m taking my time and [continuing to] record so that I have a good amount of songs to choose from and it can be something that will hold weight on it’s own. People will love it, it will speak to people and it will inspire people. I’m really, really lookin’ forward to that.

Game Review: TMNT

Game: TMNT

Publisher: UBISOFT

Released: 2007

Platform: Available on all systems, tested on the Nintendo Wii for this review

Rating: 3.6 out of 5

The newest in a long line of video games for fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle franchise, TMNT is not only the best console game out of the bunch, but it is also is the closest adaptation to the original Mirage Studios characters.

As a fan of the Turtles characters since middle school, I always take some time to check out any video game title that features the Mutant Ninjas. Konami’s first 8-bit Turtles game kind of sucked, but that didn’t stop me and my friends from playing the hell out of it. Many of the arcade and console games in the Turtles franchise since then have been great, with hours and hours of replay value. My personal favorite was Konami’s 2003 offering, gorgeous on the Xbox, with some of the best cel-shading rendered characters of any comic book adaptation I’ve played. However, this newest offering out-classes all of them.

As many critics have already noted about the game, it borrows much from the controls already established by the Prince of Persia line. This is outstanding, as the POP series was not only classic fun, it really helped spearhead a new level of platform game animation and expanded the range of movement for almost every game across the board. The controls are responsive and the action is fast paced. This is light years ahead of the first NES Turtles game, which basically used the same engine as the first Contra home console version. Each Turtle has a different special ability, Michelangelo can use his nunchucks like a helicopter and float a little bit, Donatello can pole vault gaps with his bo staff, Raphael strikes the quickest and can throw his sai, while Leonardo has a deadly range and is the most effective fighter with a katana in each hand.

The 3D environments are superb. Your missions take you throughout New York City for a good amount of the game. You run over roof tops, shimmy across the face of skyscrapers – even traipse upon the surface of the huge balloons of the Macy’s Day Parade high above the streets. When I actually got to the part where you jet atop the balloons it was an awesome moment, the scale was magnificent and that was the point where I really was like, “This is exactly how a ninja gets down, damn right.” The perspective is outstanding and the city is rendered nicely, with a smattering of graffiti burners and throw-ups all over the city.  Some larger graffiti pieces, maybe some commissions by a group of dope writers could have made this look a little more fly, but still this is one of the better looking urban environments I’ve had the pleasure of navigating. The camera is fully automated and was adequate to navigate without hampering the game play.

The controls are very natural once you get a feel for the range of motion the turtles can now accomplish. One glitch on the Wii, which could be annoying, is that if the Wii remote is not pointed directly at the screen, your character can get stuck in a squatting position while the controller vibrates non-stop. There is nothing on the screen to indicate what is causing this and for awhile I thought I was taking some sort of damage. Fear not, because once the Wii remote is again pointed at the screen game play returns to normal.

The Wii remote works so well with the game that it seems like the unlockable mini-games were made just for it. One mini game has you chucking shuriken at guerilla soldiers and the way you flick your wrist is so natural that it’s hard to imagine playing this board any other way.  In this title the mini games are really solid, one in particular that stands out is very Tron-esque in its design with an all digital 3D environment that just looked so dope I had to play it over and over so I could check out the background some more. A note to all game publishers: some people like the mini games so do not slack on this aspect! Thankfully TMNT delivers with more than half a dozen fresh little games that I’ve already unlocked so far.

You can also unlock bonus weapons and Easter eggs with points you get from completing the missions. I unlocked one called “ghastly gas” which makes your turtle fart hella. It’s hilarious because it is totally random – you might be jumping or fighting whatever when you bust a hot fart and a plume of gas comes out of the turtle’s a**. Be cautioned: the fart spray looks just like the hot steam from some pipes which causes damage. One time I farted and got a little scared because I thought I had just burned the Turtle.

The voice acting is solid, even though as an original Mirage fan I get tired of the sophomoric “dude that’s totally awesome” and pizza jokes all the dang time. But I am not mad at this game! This version manages to capture the grittiness and dark tone of the earlier Eastman and Laird universe. For some reason I feel like superheroes continue to make the best video game characters. I mean, Ultimate Spiderman and Hulk: Ultimate Destruction are two of the sickest games ever for the Xbox. I’d like to see a TMNT RPG for the new consoles with Fugitoid as the main character.

Overall, if you like platformer games or are a fan of the Turtles, you will enjoy this title. It looks sharp and plays well. The characters are well suited for the action and the environment is compelling.  (This sh*t is Ninja Gaiden status with turtles!) Furthermore, this is one of the few movie adaptations for gamers that deliver an experience that stands on its own as a good time. This title probably renders best on a PC or Xbox360, but even on the Wii the backgrounds are handsome and the controls are peppy. Go Ninja Go Ninja GO!

Median: Median’s Relief

The lone guest appearance from Little Brother’s stellar 2003 debut The Listening, Median has held his gifts for the longest, operating off of message boards and networking sites to get his music out there. Now having linked up with Wordsworth and Oddissee’s home, Halftooth Records, almost five years later than his Justus League cohorts, the MC drops Median’s Relief (Halftooth). The common man themes of rap are passé. Records like Blackalicious’ “Swan Lake” or The Pharcyde’s “Passin’ Me By” were anthems 15 years ago, but today’s audience appears to resonate with fantasy above reality. That being said, Median, undoubtedly a commoner himself, uses creativity to bridge the gap. “Brenda’s Baby” is a ‘what-if’, linking 2Pac’s early hit to the recent film Maria Full of Grace. This isn’t presented as a Canibus/Killah Priest-esque conspiracy theory, but rather as a rap fan watching an art flick, and comparing the two. Equally, “How Big is Your World” disguises itself as a 9/11 reflection, and works as a simple message for change. With a mic presence and delivery not unlike Speech’s of Arrested Development, Median has a mild-manner, almost conversational flow. This serves as nice contrast to the aficionado attitudes from MCs in today’s underground and the baritone growls of the mainstream. To some, Median – and his subject matter, may be vanilla and drab. However, who knew that being common could be so different in Hip-Hop?Production matches the middle-of-the-road lyrics. 9th Wonder provides four cuts, most notably the aforementioned “How Big is Your World,” which instills a Premier-like timing, with warm accented tones, and scratches in the chorus. Newcomer Ant B holds it down with “What Would You Do?” which has chilly congo drums and deft vocal sampling. At no point does Median rely on Khrysis, Nicolay or 9th to deliver him a hit, but rather, each luminary provides their Soul compositions against Median’s reflections in a cohesive way.Median’s Relief follows in line with the Halftooth catalogue. The Wilmington, North Carolina MC has a lot to offer. Perhaps 16 tracks is a bit too much, and the numerous remixes and updated older tracks get the listener bogged down in reconsiderations. Still, at several points in the album, Median proves himself different from his group-mates, and chooses a less-traveled stance in Hip-Hop that makes him accessible to anyone willing to admit they’re just normal. Charges against The Alchemist were later dismissed, but yesterday, Prodigy, 32, admitted to possessing the unlicensed .22-caliber gun.

AHH Stray News: Fergie, Palestinian Rappers DAM, Eazy-E/NWA

Rap group The Black Eyed Peas were forced to halt a performance in El Salvador, after group member Fergie became ill. Fergie told over 10,000 fans shortly into the group’s performance that she was sick from seafood poisoning and could not continue. The concert was organized by Two Show and was a date on the group’s Monkey Business tour of Central America and Mexico. While Two Show didn’t offer an explanation for the cancellation, fans speculated that Fergie was drunk. Two Show said the group’s performance would be rescheduled in 90 days and offered a full refund to fans who were disappointed. “I have never canceled a show in my life,” Fergie told fans. “I was basically sick on my deathbed with food poisoning. And I said I can’t do the show, I can’t do it. I am not one of those b###### who cancels her show from exhaustion.” She then launched into a rendition of “Big Girls Don’t Cry” with the crowd. The show ended shortly afterwards.

Palestinian Hip-Hop group DAM will perform live on stage at the Jericho Stadium in the West Bank in the Palestinian territories with Canadian rock star Bryan Adams on October 18. The concert is one of two “People’s Summits” being staged by the One Million Voices movement, which seeks to establish a two-state solution to the Palestinian/Israeli conflict. The second concert will take place in HayYarkon Park in Tel Aviv, Israel and will feature local musicians, poets and celebrities. NFL WEEK 5 Wrap-Up

First let me say, I apologize to all of you guys this week for being late with the write-ups.  With work and family, this past week has been very hectic for me and I will try my best to get my write-ups and picks to you A.S.A.P.  You guys have been very responsive to the last few posts I’ve written and I enjoy writing them.  The least I can do is to get them in a decent amount of time so we can have some fun discussing the games.  Secondly I wanna apologize to my friends, family, coaches and supporters for standing by me in such a difficult time.  I have surrendered myself to the proper authorities for making false statements to federal authorities and will surrender my 5 gold…Oh, my bad, I had a Marion Jones moment. That video cracks me up every time I watch it.  Let’s talk football.

1pm games:

Tennessee Titans (3-1) def. Atlanta Falcons (1-4)

Location: LP Field, Nashville, TN

Score: 20-13

The Titans offense was still on their bye this week and it showed.  The Titans had 5 turnovers against the Falcons and yet, the Titans still won.  While the Titans offense was still on the bye, their defense was in the game mentally and physically.  The Falcons were held to 198 total yards of offense.  For most of the season, the Falcons problem has been running the ball.  In last Sunday’s game, they also had problems throwing the ball as well.  Joey Harrington was 16 for 31 with 87 yards passing and 1 interception. The score was 13-13 with 2:10 left in the 3rd quarter when Harrington threw an interception to Titans’ Safety Vincent Fuller on the Titans’ 32-yard line that was returned for a touchdown.  That made the score 20-13.

After that interception, Falcons’ head coach, Bobby Petrino, replaced Harrington with back-up QB Byron Leftwich due to Harrington’s poor play, hoping to spark his offense.  Leftwich was as hopeless as a penny with a hole in it.  Leftwich finished the game 2 for 8 with 28 passing yards and 1 interception and no spark.  Titans RB Chris Brown had 10 carries for 28 yards and 1 touchdown.  Once again, none of the Falcons’ RBs tallied 100 yards of rushing.  Warrick Dunn finished the day with 10 carries for 27 yards and no touchdowns.

Jacksonville Jaguars (3-1) def. Kansas City Chiefs (2-3)

Location: Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, MO

Score: 17-7

You would think Larry Johnson would have had a big game against one of the weakest rushing defenses in the league.  Think again.  Johnson finished the day with 12 carries for 26 yards and no touchdowns.  The Jags held the Chiefs to 10 total yards of rushing.  That’s terrible.  Not only did the Jags stop L.J., they also knocked the snot out of Chiefs’ QB Damon Huard in the 4th quarter.  A pass intended for WR Jeff Webb was intercepted by Jags’ Saftey Reggie Nelson. Huard injured his shoulder on that play.  He left the game with 8:21 on the clock with his team down 17-0.  Huard finished the day 19 for 30 with 196 passing yards, 1 interception and no touchdowns.

The game was all but done, according to the score, when the Chiefs’ 2nd string QB, Brodie Croyle entered for the injured Huard.  With 1:40 left in the game, Crolye started a drive from the Chiefs 30-yard line and drove his team to a touchdown on the Jags 13-yard line.  Croyle hit WR Sammy Parker with a 13-yard strike to make the score 17-7 with 0:03 left in the game.  Good for them.  The Chiefs scored a touchdown…at the end of the game.  Really? Wow.  Croyle was 6 for 13 with 83 passing yards and 1 touchdown.

Arizona Cardinals (3-2) def. St. Louis Rams (0-5)

Location: Edward Jones Dome, St. Louis, MO

Score: 34-31

When it rains, it pours and right now it’s a tsunami for Cards’ QB Matt Leinart.  First, your head coach decided he wants to use a “two quarterback” system and have you split time with the resurging veteran QB, Kurt Warner.  Now, you get sacked in the middle of the 2nd quarter in last Sunday’s game by Rams’ LB Will Witherspoon and break your collarbone.  How much does your life stink right about now?  Oh, by the way, you’re a baby daddy.

With QB Marc Bulger and RB Stephen Jackson out with injuries, it was time for the back-ups and rookies to step up for the Rams. Veteran QB Gus Frerotte and rookie RB Brian Leonard did just that.  Frerotte finished the game 24 for 43 with 262 passing yards, 3 TDs and 3 INTs.  Lenonard had 18 carries for 102 yards and no touchdowns.  Not bad for his first start.

For three quarters, the Rams held tight with the Cards.  It was a back and forth showdown though a series of touchdowns and field goals in the previous 3 quarters that made the score 20-20 going into the 4th quarter.  Gut check time and the battle had just begun.

With 1st and 10 on the Cards 37 yard line, Frerotte threw an interception to Cards CB Roderick Hood that was returned for 68 yards and the touchdown. That made the score 27-20, Cards take the lead.  With 8:48 left on the clock, Rams kicker, Jeff Wilkens, hit a 31-yard field goal to make the score 27-23.  Kurt Warner answered back with a 1-yard touchdown run to extend the Cards lead to 34-23 with 3:14 left to play.  With 0:20 left on the clock, Frerotte hit TE Randy McMichael with a 29 yard touchdown pass to bring the Rams within 34-29. The Rams went for the 2-point conversion and mad it with a pass from Frerotte to Torry Holt to make the score 34-31.  Jeff Wilkens went for the onsides kick and the Cards recovered, ending the game.

Warner was 14 for 28 with 190 yards passing, 1 touch down and 1 interception. Cards WR Larry Fitzgerald led all receivers with 9 catches for 136 yards and 1 touchdown.   Despite the loss, Frerotte got big contributions from Rams WR Torry”Big Game“Holt and McMichael.  Holt finished the day with 5 catches for 89 yards and 1 touchdown while McMichael had 3 catches for 45 yards and 1 touchdown.

New England Patriots (5-0) def. Cleveland Browns (2-3)

Location: Gillette Stadium, Foxboro, MA

Score: 34-17

I’m going to be honest with you guys.  Right now, I don’t what else to say about the Pats except that they are good.  That’s it.  I can run down all of the stats and the numbers and it wouldn’t matter.  As boring as Bill Belichick may be, he wins.  That’s all that matters.

The Browns did score some points; a 42-yard field goal in the 3rd quarter by Phil Dawson got the Browns within 17 of the Pats.  Whoopee.  Browns QB Derek Anderson hit WR Tim Carter with a 21-yard pass to get within 10 to make the score 20-10 with 14:26 left to play in the game.  Then Tom Brady had enough with the Browns shenanigans and on the next drive hit TE Ben Watson with a 25-yard pass to make the score 27-10.  With that pass, Brady tied HOFer Steve Young as the only 2 QBs to have 5 consecutive games with 3 TD passes or more.  Put Brady in the Hall right now.

The score was 17-27 with 0:52 left to play when Kellen Winslow, Jr. a.k.a. “Evel Knievel”, fumbled a 15-yard pass that was recovered by the Pats’ CB Randall Gay for a touchdown which pretty much drove the “nail in the coffin” for the Browns.  Brady finished the day 22 for 38 with 265 passing yards and 3 TDs.  Randy Moss finished the day with 3 catches for 46 yards and no touchdowns.  This is the first game this year when Moss had under 100-yards receiving and no touchdowns.  That didn’t matter as Ben Watson and WR Donté Stallworth  made up for Moss’ absence.  Watson had 6 catches for 107 yards and 2 TDs while Stallworth had 4 catches for 65 yards and 1 touchdown in the win.

Carolina Panthers (3-2) def. New Orleans Saints (0-4)

Location: Superdome, New Orleans, LA

Score: 16-13

The Saints are a mess.  The offense looks totally discombobulated and the defense is playing well below their potential.  Here is a team in a weak NFC South division, with the players and intelligence to take over the division, yet, they haven’t found a way to make it click this season.  With RB Deuce McAllister out for the season, it’s now time for Reggie Bush to step up.  That was put on hold last Sunday when the Saints met the Panthers.

Jake Delhomme sat out last Sunday with an injury and “White Gloves” got the start again.  David Carr was 10 for 17 with 119 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception.  What was really impressive was the fact that Carr was drilled by Saints’ DE Will Smith in the 1st quarter, sat out of the game for a couple of series, came back into the game, and led the Panthers down the field to the Saints 35 yard line in the 4th quarters with 2:14 left to play.  The drive helped set up a John Kasey 52-yard field goal that won the game for the Panthers as time expired on the clock.  Saints’ QB Drew Brees has been awful as of late.  Brees finished the game 29 for 47 with 252 yards and 2 INTs.  Bush had 27 carries for 67 yards and no touchdowns.

Game of the Week: NY Giants (3-2) def. NY Jets (1-4)

Location: Giants Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ

Score: 35-24

What happens when you bench a player for the first half of a game for violating team rules?  You get 2 INTs from that player and the win.  That’s what happened in Giants Stadium last Sunday with the G-men and the J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets. Jets met.  A home game for both teams, Giants’ rookie CB, Aaron Ross, tallied 2 of the 3 turnovers the Jets made in last Sunday’s “Hudson River Shootout”. I’m beginning to hear the cries for Jets back-up QB, Kellen Clemens getting a little louder.  Chad Pennington is struggling really badly and it doesn’t look like it’s going to get any better.  Pennington finished the day 21 for 36 with 229 passing yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception.  Despite his performance, it was still a good game.

The Jets took a17-7 led into half time when the returning Brandon Jacobs had a 19-yard run for a touchdown that changed the score 17-14.  The Jets answered back on the ensuing kick-off when Leon Washington ran back a 98-yard return for a touchdown to make the score 24-14.  With 0:42 left in the 3rd quarter, Eli Manning hit TE Jeremy Shockey with a 19-yard touchdown pass to get the Giants within 3 point with the score 24-21.  With 8:07 to play in the 4th quarter, Manning found Plaxico Burress for a 53-yard bomb for the touchdown and the lead with the score 27-21.  The icing on the cake for the Giants was a 43-yard interception by Ross with 3:28 left in the game to extend the lead 35-24 which was the final.

Manning was 13 for 25 with 186 passing yards, 2 TDs and 1 interception.  Brandon Jacobs finished the day with 20 carries for 100 yards and 1 touchdown.  Burress had 5 catches for 124 yards and Shockey had 2 catches for 33 yards.  The Giants defense was on top of their game once again by holding the Jets to 55 total yards of rushing.  If the G-men keep up with their defensive ways, we may have to start calling them the D-men.

Pittsburgh Steelers (4-1) def. Seattle Seahawks (3-2)

Location: Heinz Field, Pittsburgh, PA

Score: 21-0

What do these 2 teams have in common?  Both teams embarrassed the Niners in the previous 2 weeks.  The Steelers squashed the Niners in Week 3, and the Seahawks beat the Niners in Week 4.  That’s about it.  In a Super Bowl XL rematch, the Steelers showed football fans why they beat the Seahawk the first time.  Good ball management and defense that’s ranked #1 in the league would give any team a chance to win. The Steelers total time of possession was 40:45.  Compare that to the Seahawks’ time of possession, 19:15, and you can see why the score was 21-0.

Ben Roethlisberger was 18 for 22 with 206 yards and 1 touchdown.  That touchdown came in the 2nd quarter at the 2:00 mark when he hit TE Heath Miller with a 13-yard pass to make the score 7-0 going into the half.  6-year veteran, Najeh Davenport, was the short yard specialist in this game.  He ran in 2 TDs, one for a yard and the other for 5 yards that helped the Steelers win the game and improve their record to 4-1.  Steelers RB Willie Parker had 28 carried for 102 yards and no touchdowns.  The key to they Steelers’ win was their relentless defense.  The Steelers allowed 38 rushing yards and 106 passing yards.  That’s why they are the #1 ranked defense in the league.

Washington Redskins (3-1) def. Detroit Lions (3-2)

Location: FedEx Field, Landover, MD

Score: 34-3

If you read my picks from last week, I said the Redskins would win because they would stop Jon Kitna from throwing the ball all over the place to those good Lions’ WRs.  What I didn’t know was that the ‘Skins would put 34 points on Lions and hold them to a field goal.  Make a statement, why don’t you?   That was what the ‘Skins defense did as they held the Lions to 144 total yards of offense.  ‘Skins QB Jason Campbell was 23 for 29 with 248 yards and 2 TDs.  This young man is progressing to be one of the top guns in this league.  His game play this year has shown how much he has matured in his position of quarterback for the ‘Skins.  Mike Sellers had 5 carries for 24 yards and 1 touchdown.  He also had 3 catches for 36 yards and 1 touchdown.  One of his touchdowns came at the 2:00 mark in the 2nd quarter when he ran in a 1 yard touchdown to extend the ‘Skins led 14-0.

The Lions got on the board in the 3rd quarters when Jason Hanson kicked a 39-yard to make the score 14-3.  The ‘Skins came back a got a safety on Lions QB Jon Kitna with 1:10 on the clock to extend their lead 16-3.  An 8-yard pass from Campbell to Sellers plus a 2-point conversion from Campbell to TE Chris Cooley made the score 24-3.  A Shaun Suisham 28-yard field goal gave the ‘Skins a 27-3 led and with 0:57 left on the clock, Kitna was intercepted by the ‘Skins CB Carlos Rogers who returned the interception 61 yards for the touchdown to give the Redskins a 34-3 win.  Kitna finished the day 16 for 29 with 106 passing yards, no touchdowns, and 2INTs.

Houston Texans (3-2) def. Miami Dolphins (0-5)

Location: Reliant Stadium, Houston, TX

Score: 22-19

What do Louisville’s Brian Brohm, Kentucky’s Andre Woodson, and Boston College’s Matt Ryan have in common?  One of these three college QBs will be the Phins #1 pick in the NFL Draft this year.  They have to be.  You can’t make the same mistake twice.  Well you can, but Dolphins head coach, Cam Cameron, would have to be out of his mind if he doesn’t take a QB this year.  They may even be the #1 pick overall if the Phins keep playing the way they have been playing.  The Phins had a chance to win this game, but as fate would have it, it was déjà vu all over again.

With 3:54 left in the 1st quarter, Phins’ QB Trent Green, fumbled the ball on the Texans 30-yard line.  Phins WR Ted Ginn, Jr. recovered the ball and in a scramble to save the play. Green tried to block Texans DT Travis Johnson at his knees and in the process of the block; Green was kneed in the head by Johnson, sustained a concussion and was carried off on a stretcher. The play was an eerie reminder of the hit Green took last year, which ended his season.  When life hands you lemons, you make lemonade, and that was what the Phins did.  4-year veteran and Phins back-up QB, Cleo Lemon, steeped in for the injured Green.  Lemon was 15 for 27 with 151 yards and 1 interception.

The game was a kicker’s duel. The Phins kicker, Jay Freely, and Texans kicker, Kris Brown, combined for 9 field goals.   The score was 19-19 with 0:06 left in the game when Brown kicked the game winning field goal to win the game at 22-19.  Brown set a single game record by making 3 field goals over 50 yards.  Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown ran for 114 yards on 23 carries and scored 1 touchdown.  The Texans QB, Matt Schuab, was 20 for 34 with 294 yards and 1 interception.

4pm games:

Indianapolis Colts (5-0) def. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-2)

Location: RCA Dome, Indianapolis, IN

Score: 33-14

Colts head coach Tony Dungy believes that when you have a guy who is inured on the team, you just go to the next guy on the depth chart.  Well the Colts’ depth chart is very deep.  WR Marvin Harrison, LB Rob Morris, who is out for the year, Safety Bob Sanders, and RB Joseph Addai out for last Sunday’s game, Peyton Manning had plenty of options to got to with the likes of rookie RB Kenton Keith, WR Reggie Wayne, TE Dallas Clark and rookie WR Anthony Gonzalez.  Manning was 29 for 37 with 253 passing yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT.  Wayne, Clark, and Gonzalez each had 7 catches.  Both Wayne and Clark scored a touchdown.  Keith had 28 carries for 121 yards and 2 TDs.

Indy was on top of their game on both offense and defense.  The Colts defense held the Bucs to 17 total rushing yards while the Colts offense had a total of 400 total yards of offense. That’s really good.  By the start of the 4th quarter, the Colts had a 23-7 lead when Manning hit Reggie Wayne for 9 yards and the score.  The game was way out of hand when Bucs QB, Jeff Garcia, found TE Alex Smith for a 3 yard pass for a touchdown to make the score 30-14.  With 2:57 left to mplay, Colts’ kicker, Adam Viniterihit a 35-yard field goal to seal the deal for the defending champs with the score 33-14.  Jeff Garcia finished the day 18 for 23 with143 yards and 2 TDs.

San Diego Chargers (2-3) def. Denver Broncos (2-3)

Location: Invesco Field, Denver, CO

Score: 41-3

The Chargers did it.  They finally listened to the people, ran the ball and won the game.  Chargers RB Michael”Buner” Turner had 10 carries for 147 yards and 1 touchdown.  The reason I brought this up is due to the fact that if you can run the ball, it opens up the passing game.  The numbers never lie.  Philip Rivers was 13 for 18 for 270 yards and 2 TDs.  TE Antonio Gates had 7 catches for 113 yards and 1 touchdown while WR Vincent Jackson had 3 catches for 84 yards and 1 touchdown.  What also helped the Chargers get their 2nd win of the season was their defense.

The Chargers held the Broncos to 72 total yards of rushing.  Broncos RB Travis Henry had 16 carries for 65 yards and no touchdowns.  The game was over by the end of the 1st half when Chargers kicker Nate Kaeding hit a 45-yard field goal to make the score 20-3.  After the 1st half, River threw 2 TD passes and Turner ran 74 yards for a touchdown.  Broncos QB Jay Cutler was 23 for 36 with 232 yards and 1 interception.

Baltimore Ravens (3-2) def. San Francisco 49ers (2-3)

Location: Monster Park, San Francisco, CA

Score: 9-7

The Niners stunk up the joint last week in their 23-3 loss to the Seahawks.  The Ravens lost a heartbreaker last week to the Cards.  Both teams came into last Sunday’s game hoping to turn their fortunes around. The Niners have one of the worst run defenses in the league and the Ravens are still the Ravens.  That means their defense is always on point.

The Niners hung with the Ravens going into the 2nd half when the ravens were up 6-0.  The score was 9-0 when Niners QB Trent Dilfer found WR Arnaz Battle for a 23-yard touchdown pass to get within 2 points of the Ravens with the score 9-7.  With 2:44 left in the game, Niners kicker Joe Nedney

missed a 52-yard field goal that would have given the Niners the lead and the win.  The Ravens defense held the Niners to 163 total yards of offense.  The Niners were held to 49 total rushing yards.  Dilfer finished the day 12 for 19 with 126 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception.   Niners RB Frank Gore, who’s been really off this year, had 16 carries for 52 yards and no touchdowns.  The often-injured Steve McNair was 29 for 43 with 214 yards and no touchdowns.

Sunday Night Game:

Chicago Bears (2-3) def. Green Bay Packers (4-1)

Location: Lambeau Field, Green Bay, WI

Score: 27-20

The Bears defense made their presence known last Sunday night against their divisional rivals the Packers.  Brett Farve and the Packers were riding high on a 4 game win streak and were looking to go 5-0 against an offense weary Chicago Bears team. The Packers had a 17-7 lead going onto the 3rd quarter when Bears kicker, Robbie Gould, hit a 44-yard field goal to get the Bears within 7 points with the score 10-17. Packers’ kicker, Matt Crosby, hit a 37-yard field goal to extend the Packers lead 20-10 with 9:06 left to play in the 3rd quarter.

With 4:24 left to play in the 3rd, Brian Griese found TE Greg Olson for 19 yards for a touchdown.  That put the Bears within 3 points of the Packers with the score 20-17.   Gould hit a 36-yard field goal to tie the game 20-20 with 14:18 on the clock in the 4th quarter.  With 2:11 left in the game, Griese hit TE Desmond Clark with a 34-yard touchdown to give the Bears a 27-20 lead.

With 1:58 left in the game, Farve lead a charge starting at the Packers 37-yard line.  Farve drove the Packers to the Bears 32-yard line when he threw a bomb to the end zone that was intended for WR Donald Driver that was picked off by Bears’ Safety Brandon McGowan for a touchback and the win.  Griese finished the day 15 for 25 with 214 yards, 2 TDs and 1 interception.  Cedric Benson had 27 carries for 64 yards and 1 touchdown.  Farve finished the day 29 for 40 for 322 yards, 1 touchdown and 2 INTs in the loss.

Monday Night Game:

Dallas Cowboys (5-0) def. Buffalo Bills (1-4)

Location: Ralph Wilson Stadium, Buffalo, NY

Score: 25-24

Cowboy fans wonder why the team’s owner, Jerry Jones, hasn’t given starting QB Tony Romo a contract extension.  Maybe the 6 turnovers in last Monday’s game might be a clue.  And like the Titans, they ‘Boys still won.  Yet again, go figure.  Romo finished the night 29 for 50 with 309 yards, 2 TDs, 5 INTs and a fumble.  Throughout all of that, Romo led the Cowboys to two of the best game winning drives this season.

With 3:45 left in the game, Romo started the drive at the Cowboys’ 20-yard line.   The score was 16-24 in the Bills favor when, working out of the shotgun formation, Romo led the Cowboys to the Bills 4 yard line.  With 1st and 4, Romo hit WR Patick Crayton with a pass in the end zone to put the Cowboys within 2 to the Bills with the score 22-24.  On the ensuing kick-off, the Cowboys recovered the onside kick on the on the Bills’ 47 yard line.  With 0:18 left on the clock, the Cowboys got to the Bills 35-yard line.

With 0:02 left in the game, Cowboys’ kicker, Nick Folk hit a 53-yard field goal to win the game.  Then the fun begins.  Right before he kicked the ball, Bills head coach, Dick Jauron, called a time-out trying to freeze the kicker.  The move worked twice this year, once for Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan and Raiders head coach Lane Kiffin and it gave both of their teams the win. The original kick was called off and on the 2nd try, the Cowboys made it again.  Aha, take that Dick!!  As they say, the Cowboys rode off into the sunset with the victory.  The Cowboys also held the Bills to 81 rushing yards and 148 passing yards.  Jason Witten had 9 catches for 103 yards and 1 touchdown while Crayton had 6 catches for 63 yards and a touchdown.  This was a big win and an even bigger confidence builder for the Cowboys going into their Week 6 match-up with the 5-0 New England Patriots.

Beanie Sigel: The Answer

Beanie Sigel indeed auditioned for the role of Christopher “The Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace in the late rapper’s forthcoming biopic, but he’s already long been typecast. Sigel himself admits that whether it be via the Broad Street Bully’s aggressive rhymes, his roles in the State Property 2 flick, or his own well-documented run-ins with the law, people often walk on eggshells when initially meeting him one on one. Regardless, it’s been two years since his release from prison and he’s ready to release his fourth album, The Solution.  So no, Beans isn’t prone to randomly flip out and doesn’t always maintain a surly demeanor. When speaking on his impending Roc-a-fella/Def Jam album, the man Jay-Z and Dame both wanted on their prospective teams in the post-Roc-a-Fella dynasty era is damn near giddy—stressing that he’s working this new album like it’s his first.

This interview was conducted about a day before his latest legal debacle, so let’s hope Beans can stay free from further trouble, because in a year when either ultra-hipster MCs or hyper gangster posturers are winning, Sigel’s introspective street Hip-Hop is a worthy stimulant for fans needing an alternative fix. AllHipHop.com: So what’s The Solution?Beanie Sigel: To what?AllHipHop.com: Word is the title was Return of the Bad Guy, so why is it now The Solution?Beanie Sigel: The first song I recorded when I had came home, it was a track that used a sample from the Scarface movie, so that’s where that came from. That was the first song I did called “Return of the Bad Guy”. That was the generic title. And then I started recording; towards the end I was searching for a title cause the music, to me, it was strong, it was different in production and a lot of things I usually do as far as music wise than my other albums. I think this might be the strongest one to date as far as the music, the lyrics, the production. So, The Solution. The solution to me for a lot of things as far as getting the music that I want to hear in the course of a day, I really can’t hear it if I’m listening to the radio or watching videos. It’s the solution to that, for me. It’s the solution to problems, whether it be mine or somebody else’s. I made a lot of songs that people can get stuff from. AllHipHipHop.com: You record The B. Coming knowing you were about to go to jail, besides that was there any difference in your approach to recording this new album? Beanie Sigel: The B. Coming, I was rushing. At first while I was taking my time doing a lot of songs. When I do my album; I record, if I ain’t feeling the music, I’ll put it away. He might be like [pointing to his associate], “Naw, you crazy, that song’s it.” That’s been my whole thing in my career. I record like 15, 16, 17 songs and they ready to put that album out as soon as I get that one that they think can be a single, they ain’t even worrying about the second or third single, “Put it out, put it out!” I always was rushed. This album here will be my first album I can say I completed [it] at my own pace and I’m comfortable and I’m ready to put it out. AllHipHop.com: The music didn’t sound rushed on The B. Coming and you had a plan going in, did it not come together?Beanie Sigel: The promotion plan ain’t go through. I knew I was going to have to go away for a minute, everybody knew. So I did as much as I could once I found out what my time was, I had to go away for a year and a day. I did enough things that if I couldn’t promote it physically there was a visual. I did seven videos in five days. I recorded my whole court process. My whole house arrest time, I did like 18 weeks on house arrest. A whole mixtape I recorded in my house on house arrest—I brought equipment and built a studio in my house. I was in there recording songs everyday. I had all that footage on film. After I went in it was like put it out and it do what it just do. I think if [the label] paid a little more attention to it, for what it was that album could have been a lot bigger. I mean it went gold but if they had pushed it man…The court stuff it was there, so it was like, What can I do to use this to help me? Anything that they tried to use against me I was using it for me. I did a lot of work man but I felt it went in vain. AllHipHipHop.com:: So what’s the label is this new album coming out on, Roc-a-Fella/Def Jam? Def Jam?Beanie Sigel: Def Jam.AllHipHipHop.com:: Def Jam, ok…Beanie Sigel: Roc-a-Fella [chuckling]AllHipHop.com: Fans where expecting you to hit the ground running when you were released from prison, did you take your time on purpose?Beanie Sigel: Actually when I came home…I ain’t write no music while I was locked up. I ain’t write one rap when I was away. AllHipHop.com: Why not?Beanie Sigel: Just the atmosphere, it wasn’t it for me. I ain’t feel it, yanahmean? I was in jail so I wasn’t Beanie Sigel, I was regular. So I didn’t even think about writing raps. I was writing my raps without writing them, if that sounds…that’s an oxymoron, whatever. I was writing my raps without writing them by just soaking in a lot of stuff that was around me. Stuff that I was seeing, hearing, interacting with different people in the jail. The raps was already there I just had to put them down when I came home. I had a lot to talk about, so it was there. I just had to put it down and get to the music. So when I first came home, just with the situation of the Roc-a-Fella break up and the split up there was a lot of things that just turned me off from making music at that point; on the business side of things. When I finally got my situation straight, like I wanted to have it, I started recording. I wanted to have a break. It felt good to have a time out for a minute. I ain’t wanna leave from the music, go away to jail, and then come back and jump right back into it. I wanted to get time to relax, downtime, family with my kids and stuff and just slowly get back into it and that’s what I did. Usually I just go in the studio and just record; whether it’s 16 bars, put that on the beat, sit it over there and we get back to it. I ain’t do that on this album. When I went in I knew I was going in to make a song. I ain’t do mixtape stuff, none of that. Everything that I was writing was for album purposes. AllHipHop.com: You just mentioned wanting to get your “situation” straight, what do you mean?Beanie Sigel: My situation as far me getting back into the thing. Making that transition from the Roc-a-Fella split and where I was going to be and what I felt that I wanted at the time from the label or whatever. Once I got that straightened how I wanted it, that’s when I went in and started recording. AllHipHop.com: Is it true you’re not going to be working with Dame anymore or is that just a rumor?Beanie Sigel: I mean a lot of people thought I was going to be on Dame Dash Music Group when I came home. That wasn’t the case. I was in the position where I had to choose between two of my friends and I wasn’t willing to compromise that so I just backed out of the whole situation period. AllHipHop.com: But you’re on Roc-a-Fella/Def Jam now, so how did your current situation come to be?Beanie Sigel: I’m on Def Jam/Roc-a-Fella. AllHipHop.com: So I’m assuming you’re cool with both of Dame and Jay-Z still?Beanie Sigel: Yeah, I don’t have no problem with nobody. It’s just that actually, to be totally honest, I was always still signed to Roc-a-Fella, being binded by contract. It really wasn’t a matter of making a choice, it was just a decision. Cause really they could have kept me binded by my contract and there wasn’t nothing I could do about that. AllHipHop.com: So what’s the status of your clothing line?Beanie Sigel: Right now I’m trying to iron a lot of things out with the clothing line. When I had to go away a lot of stuff was just left in Dame’s hands and he made a lot of decisions with the clothing line that I wouldn’t make. Right now I’m trying to straighten out a lot of business so I can get the clothing line back how it should be.AllHipHop.com: Will the clothing line still be called State Property?Beanie Sigel: If we can’t iron out the situation I’ma just move on to a new situation. AllHipHop.com: What’s about the cartoon you were working?Beanie Sigel: Yeah, The Playpen. I’m still trying to push that. The people I had working on the cartoon they made a lot of decisions on what they thought that I would want to happen and a lot of things got screwed up. I’m still in that process of fixing a lot of things. People took it upon theyself [sic] to do a lot of things, to make a lot of decisions that wasn’t correct.AllHipHop.com: It seems like you gotta…Beanie Sigel: Start all over. That’s what this is. That’s how I’m working right now, like this is my first album, coming out, starting all over again.AllHipHop.com: One line you said on the album was, “Gonna learn that I was more than a gun and a song.” You saying you’ve been misunderstood?Beanie Sigel: Yeah, I’m more than a gun and a song. You can’t just judge a person by the media nowadays or what you read because nowadays good news is no news. There’s a lot of good going on that you don’t hear about, cause it’s not exciting. That’s why they got magazines and tabloids, it’s gossip. A lot of people just think that’s what it is. They look at the movies, people who don’t know me, Who’s Beanie Sigel, they look at State Property and they be like, Oh that’s him. I’m stuck with that character. [mimicking a scared voice] I wanted to say something but I was scared, cause in State Property you looked…But this is not State Property, this is real life. AllHipHop.com: You ever wonder if what if instead of rolling with the Roc you had rolled with The Roots?Beanie Sigel:  No, I ain’t never think about that. Umm hmm [Note: Sigel asks, “What you think?” to his associate, who says, “Roots fans wouldn’t have been ready for him.”] I don’t think we would have complimented each other, at the time.Actually them vocals on “Adrenaline”, I probably recorded that maybe a year prior to me even meeting Jay-Z. Me and Tariq [Black Thought], we grew up together. Actually that was my first rhyming partner in elementary school. Me and Malik B, we was real tight so I went with him down to the studio one time. When I recorded it, I wasn’t even thinking about being a rapper. It was just something that I knew how to do. So I went down there with him, we was in there f*cking around. Scott Storch was playing for them at the time so he was just playing around, bullsh*tting on the keyboard and he had made the little beat or whatever, he just was f*cking around. Malik kept telling me go ahead record, I’m like, “Nah man, I ain’t doing that sh*t.” So they had a couple of raps that I had did that day cause we was just in there bullsh*tting around [but] they recorded it. Then when I got signed with Roc-a-Fella, I had put out a mixtape. I was just putting joints out in the street, they had called and said, “Yo, what you going to do with that verse you had did on the jawn?” So I came down to the studio and they had my vocals from back then and I ain’t know what they was talking about at first. So when I came down and I heard it, I ain’t even remember that sh*t. I had to keep listening to it and I went in there and re-did it over for them. They was like “Yo, we want this verse right here, the same way you did it, cause it wasn’t even a full beat [originally]. That’s how that song happened.AllHipHop.com: What’s the status of you and Kanye West?Beanie Sigel: I ain’t go no problem with nobody. I don’t want no trouble. [coyly]AllHipHop.com: Think you would ever get another track from Kanye West?Beanie Sigel: If he do it. I believe so.AllHipHop.com: Has it been a struggle not compromise your music, it seems like you’ve had the luxury of doing what you want to do. Beanie Sigel: I always did my music the way I want. I’ve made a couple of records that I wouldn’t have made.AllHipHop.com: Like what?Beanie Sigel: [laughing] I ain’t going to do that cause it’s going to sound crazy. It’s a couple of records that I wouldn’t have did that I was talked into. “Alright, I’ma try it.” [But], I ain’t never going to compromise my music because that means I’m compromising myself. I can only give you what I got. I think I make good music man. AllHipHop.com: The first single “All Of The Above” with R. Kelly opens you to new fans. But isn’t he suing Jay-Z?Beanie Sigel: I don’t know nothing about that. AllHipHop.com: So there was never any static from the label for his participation?Beanie Sigel: No, it was a business decision. It wasn’t, “I’m doing this against Jay-Z.” If he was, get some of that money back through the song. It’ll pan out in the end. It was a decision that I made for the song just to capture a couple of people who may not know Beanie Sigel. The song was a crazy song and I think R. Kelly just took it do a different level of music that I never would do on my own. Whether it had been R. Kelly or whoever. AllHipHop.com: Did you consider anyone else?Beanie Sigel: I considered Akon for the song and I was going to go with Akon but he was on tour. We tried to reach out to T-Pain too and couldn’t track him down; he was doing so much. Me, I ain’t want to get caught into that—I’ma use T-Pain cause he’s winning right now. I don’t do that. AllHipHop.com: What’s your take on Gilly and Cassidy’s beef. They squashed but what’s the vibe in Philly as far as animosity between rappers?Beanie Sigel: I don’t know, it was some words between them about who was the King out of them two, who was the king of Philly. AllHipHop.com: And a lot of people say Beanie Sigel is the King of Philly…Beanie Sigel: I’m never going to be the self-proclaimed, I ain’t going to do that. I’ll let the public decide what that is. And it ain’t no disrespect to my city but what I got to give is bigger than just Philly. I don’t want to be just the king of Philly. That’s been there done that. I’m trying to take over something else. You can fit Philly inside of Brooklyn. It’s a lot of big things that come out of that small place as far as history. Back in the day they put they thing down for people to move out and take over different spots, from what I learned. It’s bigger than just here. We got to take this thing across the globe with it. So I’ma take my game across the world. AllHipHop.com: You hit the scene when commercial rap music was making a lot of money but you kept underground sensibilities and had strong sales, are you worried about continues success in today’s climate?Beanie Sigel: To be honest, I ain’t know nothing about none of that when I first started rapping. Commercial, that’s a small advertisement campaign on TV. I ain’t know nothing about all that, crossing over, I was just doing what I was doing. That’s what I continue to do. AllHipHop.com: What’s your take on the Hip-Hop Cops?Beanie Sigel: I think it’s a waste of time as far as just targeting rappers. I mean it’s crazy. That’s like having NBA cops, or NFL cops. Same thing. It’s people in all aspects of business that do things or whatever, so if you going to do one, you got to do them all. Don’t just target Hip-Hop. People got to realize, people is people. No matter what they occupation is or whatever. To me a visual is more [impactful] than just hearing something. If you hear about something that one thing, but when you see it…like Hollywood makes movies that do this stuff all day. It’s the parents jobs to keep their kids in order with what they consume. I think that Hip-Hop Police sh*t is wack. AllHipHop.com: If you got the Biggie role how would you prepare for it?Beanie Sigel: I don’t know if I want to say this and people run with it before I get it. But I’ll go one hundred percent at it. I’ll do a lot of studying as far as every little thing. I ain’t telling these ni**as what I’d do, so they can run and do that sh*t man, I need that. AllHipHop.com: You got a song with Styles P on The Solution, when you were beefing with Jadakiss and the rest of the Lox was it ever really that serious?Beanie Sigel: Nah, cause me and Jadakiss had saw each other and we even talked about it like, “What’s up?” And then I was like “[Let’s] keep it going.” Cause steel sharpen steel. You only as good as what you go up against. I once read that you can’t judge a man by who his friends is, but who his enemies are. They said you can’t judge the weight of a man, actually, by who his friends is, but by who his enemy is. Who he going up against? Who he beefing with? That’s how you judge the weight of a man.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Prodigy Going To Jail? Eminem’s Mom Pens Book! Pleasure P Bounces On Pretty Ricky!

PRODIGY GOES TO JAIL!?

I hope Havoc is comfortable with being a solo act, because I heard that Prodigy is about to a multiyear bid in jail. Yeah, you know he had a case and a trial in New York City recently. I’m hearing P had to call it a day and plead guilty. Either that, or he was found guilty. Sad. First Saigon taps him and then this. I thought we rapped to get away from this stuff. Maybe I am wrong…hope so.

SHOUT OUT TO THE PEOPLE!

I want to send a super big shout out to all the people that voted for AllHipHop.com in the Hip-Hop Honors poll! We won Best Overall Hip-Hop Site! I only wish VH1 would have let me give an acceptance speech so I could get my ODB on. Anyway, I just want to say from the bottom to the top, AHH SAYS THANKS! We are here for the people! (Thanks VH1 too!)

EMINEM’S MOM PENS TELL ALL!

Eminem’s mother isn’t slick! I can read your mind! I know what you are doing! She has written a tell all book, “My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem.” The book is a tell all about the rapper and the relationship they have – from her perspective. Here is some of the summary:

:…She is still desperately seeking reconciliation with her former Mommy’s boy. Debbie reveals a bittersweet story of a single mother who gave her son everything in an attempt to make up for his absent father and her own miserable childhood. She tells the inside truth about Marshall Bruce Mathers III, and tries to untangle the outspoken and enigmatic alter egos Eminem and “Slim Shady”. It’s a rocky road and Debbie does not try to conceal the facts. This is her open letter to Eminem, a loving reminder of how they once were, and an attempt to set the record straight and refute allegations of her own drug abuse and tell the real story behind some of her son’s most famous lyrics.”

DAMN WEEZY!

I don’t know if this is common knowledge, but it is new to me. Lil Wayne is still in jail after being arrested in Boise, Idaho last Saturday. You know all about the police raid and how they allegedly found (60) pills and some weed. Each pill is 1 count! I heard that Plies was on the same bill and heard about what happened to Wayne and he just ROLLED. I heard he went from Idaho to Washington, to safety. They sure are rounding up the rappers!

LIL’ KIM AND SLICK RICK?

Before I start some mess, I was getting my old school on with Slick Rick and I was shocked and amazed to see Lil’ Kim in the video for “Teenage Love” by Slick Rick. Tell me that’s not the Notorious K.I.M.

BIG KIM AND HER NUDE PICS?

Some freakazoid tried to sell nude pictures of Kim Kardashian and her sister. Sounds like something you would want, right? No! The pictures were of the pair when they were underage! I don’t know how young, but they were young enough to have the FBI get involved. The Feds came in and they have taken all the pictures, dudes laptop and some other stuff. Why does it seem overboard with the feds all involved?

MATH VS IRON KING SOLOMON

This was a good battle. I like this kid Iron Solomon. I like Math in the fight though.

ILLSEED’S QUICKIES!

What’s going on with U-God and Tony Yayo? U-God called Yayo out recently!

The Roc Boys have officially ended their beef – that’s Beanie and Kanye!

Rich Boy has recorded a video for “Lets Get This Paper.” I cant find it, but you can find him talking ALL ABOUT IT – right here! AllHipHop loves this song!

I heard Common called Skillz out! Well, he called him out to be on the stage on the las leg of 2K8 tour. Shout out to Percee P and Q-Tip, were there in VA.They all freestyled for the people.

Kanye West is nicer than ever rapper – but Little Wayne. (LOL @ Little) I’m sure he said that just to get us talking. On the other side, there are some that think KRS will take offense. Doubt it.

Estelle, a singer in the UK, has quietly signed to John Legend’s label. I heard she has some nice producers in John Legend, Will I Am, Swizz Beats, Wyclef, Cee Lo, Mark Ronson and JD.

Timbaland reportedly produced Alicia Keys second single, “Like You’ll Never See Me Again.”

Shaq’s wife, Shaunie, reportedly wants him back…or wants him to want her back.

PLEASURE LEAVES PRETTY RICKY?

I got word that Pleasure has departed Pretty Ricky. Here is what was allegedly sent via his myspace page. I know nobody really cares, but look at it anyway.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Hit With New $5 Million Dollar Lawsuit

Sean “Diddy” Combs has been hit with another lawsuit, this time from a man who claims the mogul’s bodyguards beat him senseless at a nightclub in Manhattan last June.

According to the $5 million dollar lawsuit, which was filed in New York County Court this week, promoter James Waldon was at The Box on June 1, when he approached Combs to listen to a group he was working with.

Waldon claims that he introduced himself and the two men briefly exchanged greetings.

When Waldon asked Combs to view a performance by a Hip-Hop group, Combs allegedly called his bodyguards, who promptly beat him and threw him out of the club.

Waldon suffered from cuts, bruises and injuries to his teeth and mouth.

Earlier this week, a former consultant for Combs’ Bad Boy Entertainment Inc. sued the mogul for $19 million, claiming that he was not fully compensated for recording about 17 minutes of a 1994 performance by Notorious B.I.G which was later released.

Representatives for Combs were not available as of press time.

Steroids: Is It Really That Serious?

I love wearing my throwback jersey’s, especially those from the Negro baseball leagues.  These jerseys symbolize so many things: pain, suffering, success, fun.  But most importantly, they represent hard work that the individuals who wore them endured so that other African American players could achieve the American Dream:  baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and Escalades!?  I wonder how my now two-year-old daughter will feel about wearing the throwback jersey of the greatest player to ever play the game of baseball, Barry Bonds.

Despite his success in this sport, Bonds’ name and his records have been tainted with the accusations and stench of steroid use and his athletic prowess has come in to question.  The “clear and the cream” substances given to Bonds by his personal trainer who failed to inform him of what they contained were actually illegal substances used to enhance performance. But why is this steroid thing such a big deal?  Why is the home run record that Bonds now holds in question?

Simply stated, steroids are illegal, potentially harmful, banned in most professional sports and college, and usage is considered cheating. Among athletes on the elite level, some feel that if you are not using steroids, then you are not trying hard enough. Steroids can build muscle and increase an athlete’s speed and strength – that has been proven. The problem is that penalties are placed on athletes found to be using them, and if used for long periods of time the side effects can be embarrassing and potentially life threatening.

In women, the side effects of steroids include facial and body hair growth, male pattern baldness, deepening of the voice, reduced breast size and menstrual problems.  In men, reduced sperm count, impotence, breast growth, and decreased testicle size have all been documented.

All individuals who use steroids are at risk for high blood pressure, strokes, high cholesterol, nausea, sleep disturbances, acne, increased aggressiveness, and mood disorders including anxiety and depression. Some of these side effects like the breast development in men and voice changes in women are irreversible. It amazes me that I get continue to get requests from athletes in my private practice for steroids.

Hip-Hop has had its bout with accusations of steroid use. LL Cool J was rumored to have used steroids to transforms his body into that of a Greek god.  He has denied using steroids as well as plastic surgery to improve his physique in his book LL Cool J’s Platinum Workout.

Whether it is to win at any and all cost or to look good and ripped in a shirt, success and vanity outweigh life and longevity in the psyche of steroid users. That is, until something bad happens like being banned from your sport, having a heart attack or not able to “get it up” when the time is right.

The road to success in sports is hard and education on proper nutrition, exercise, and rest is of the utmost importance.  Commitment to the sport on all levels is the only way to be successful. Is Barry Bonds guilty? Unfortunately some believe he is, despite being the greatest player to ever play the game of baseball. My advice to him and any young athlete is to never take or rub something on your body without knowing exactly what it is that you are taking or rubbing on you.

Wayne Wonder: Island Star

While hardcore dancehall was a mainstay of music in the early to mid ‘90s, its presence began to wean with the emergence of new artistic expressions of music, such as neo-soul and reggaeton. Yet, somewhere between the sheets, Jamaican born Wayne Wonder found a niche and introduced the world to reggae music with an R&B feel. Since recording his first song in 1988, Wayne Wonder has made a solid, yet subtle, statement of his ability to cross genres and make quality music. In 2003, he struck Gold with the Billboard hit “No Letting Go.”With no pressure to be anyone but himself and a soft spot for the ladies, Wayne Wonder is back with a new album, Foreva, to prove that reggae music, like all other forms, can be anything you want it to be. On his visit to New York, Wayne Wonder shared with us his love and appreciation of women, how much he admired Alicia Keys, and the pressure of being yourself, musically, in Jamaica.AllHipHop.com Alternatives:  You’ve been at this for many years. What keeps you motivated to keep at it when music is evolving so drastically?Wayne Wonder: I guess I love it. I always put my heart into it.  I’m always finding ways to reinvent myself by getting inspired. My creative juices flow in whatever direction they flow, like a river, you know? And I guess that’s inspired by the love of the music.AHHA: Now part of your creativity, once upon a time, was your alter-ego Surprize. Wayne Wonder: He’s still a part of it. My alter-ego is a part of my creative flow. It’s the surprise of it. So at times you’ll hear me open a song saying, “Wayne Wonder, featuring Suprize.”  That’s the part that surprises and motivates me. Even still, Surprize is that inner energy that pushes me. AHHA: You’re considered a dancehall artist, yet, you are very unconventional in your approach. Why do you prefer the ballads and mid-tempo songs to the harder, raunchier style of most dancehall artists?Wayne Wonder: That’s where my energy lies. That’s how I was inspired. My inspiration and encouragement come from [ballads and soul music]. I could get a hardcore dancehall beat, but I’d still be able to apply a nice melody to it and make it plain at the same time. You could take away the beat, later, and apply nice R&B chords around it and it would make a nice R&B record too. So that’s how I make my music, you know? It’s for everybody.AHHA: You have a unique, easily recognizable voice. Who were some of your musical influences?Wayne Wonder: Musical influences came from early on. I grew up in a house with my mother listening to Mahalia Jackson. We grew up on that and Beres Hammond, Barrington Levy, Jackson 5, Michael Jackson. Listening to them was like, yo, such remarkable talent, you know? We found ourselves gravitating to the people with that talent. Like, I listened to R. Kelly in the early days…Honey Love and 12 Play.AHHA:  The first song I had ever heard from you was “No Letting Go,” which was infectious here in the States. Where were you when you wrote that song and what was going through your mind?Wayne Wonder: I was actually in Queens, New York, in the basement and I was listening to the track. And I was just jamming to the song and playing some additional chords to it to let it compliment a song. It’s just about a girl…my relationship, you know? Me wanting to tell her how much I appreciate her, how I’m going to stick by her. It’s just a song of appreciation so all the ladies can appreciate it.AHHA: Do you think you’ll ever be able to top the success of that single?Wayne Wonder: Well I don’t even think about it that way. I treat it the same as any song that has good content and quality, that’s coming from the heart. I’m sure Jah will bless me and people will gravitate towards it. AHHA: Speaking of writing, for the early part of your career, you did mostly cover songs. Why?Wayne Wonder: In Jamaica it’s really hard to write, as producers don’t really believe in spending time to develop a writer. Like if I’m sitting down writing a song that needed a little more arrangement, they didn’t have time to do that, so they would be like, “Why don’t you sing something that people know?” Then I realized that it was time and it was okay to be myself. And Beres Hammond was the one that told me to write my own song and it will sound like a cover song. I did, and since ‘93 I haven’t turned back. It paid off for me.AHHA: After hearing some songs off your new LP Foreva, I am reminded of authentic R&B with a reggae tinge. Do you ever feel pressure to please both the people in the States by making your music more generic, and the people in Jamaica, by making your music rawer?Wayne Wonder: I just know that sometimes you have to let the music make itself, and that’s my philosophy. If I’m sad, I’m gonna sing about that. If I’m happy, I’m gonna sing about joy riding. If I had a bad night last night or I run into some cats that p##### me off, I might sing about something defensive, like enemies or struggle. It’s all about the feel, not so much thought into the pressure of it. I know that dancehall music is more DJ dominated, but as a singer I know there’s a place for me to fit in. Like you said, I’ve been doing this for so long. People must feel the music in some way and appreciate what I’m doing.AHHA: True. So tell me about this album. What are your top three favorite tracks and why?Wayne Wonder: “Again” is one of my favorites. You know, I’m a personal person, so when I put my pen to my paper or I hold a guitar to write a song, it’s gotta be something true. My work is time consuming. Sometimes I’m on the road and I tell my wife I’m going to call her and I don’t call her. I’m supposed to be calling and checking in, you know? So “Again” is just really saying, whenever I touch the road again, I’ll be taking you, so don’t cry. I like “Gonna Love You” also. It’s another one of those songs that let’s a lady know she’s appreciated, you know? And then there’s a song called, “L.O.V.E.,” inspired by all the war I see going on, and we need it. So those are my three favorites on the album.AHHA: Well we can never have too many of those songs, showing love to the ladies.Wayne Wonder: Yeah, because I learned one thing- love is lovely and war is ugly.AHHA: I couldn’t have said it better. I’m going to have to use that. Now on this album you collaborated with Trina, but in the future, who would you like collaborate with?Wayne Wonder: My dream is to do something with Alicia Keys, but then Baby Cham already got that chance, but I’ve always been such a big fan of hers. I actually read that she was a fan of my music as well, and that was surprising because I didn’t know that. So definitely Alicia Keys.AHHA: Ya’ll should make that happen. Have you heard her new song “No One?” It has a reggae feel to it.Wayne Wonder: No, I haven’t heard that. But I’d like to hear it. I know I think her father was Jamaican, so it’s in her blood, you know?  Maybe I should go by J Records and wait for her. [laughs]AHHA: Now reggae music has become a thriving force in the music pool over the past few years. What direction would you like to see it go in the next five years?Wayne Wonder: Straight to the top, with people to represent it the proper way, as one ofthe top forms of music.

Joe Budden Released By Def Jam

Rapper Joe Budden is no longer signed to Def Jam Records after being heralded as one of its most promising acts in the early 2000’s.The rapper said he was pleased to be leaving the label and looked forward to the next steps in his career. “I’m just happy we were finally able to cut all ties. I feel like I have all the talent in the world, but for some reason was never able to showcase it there,” Budden told AllHipHop.com. “I’m looking forward to whatever God has in store for me, and Joe Budden fans should know – today is a beautiful day.”While Budden’s self-titled 2003 album sold over 500,000 copies, he never released another album on the label. He also scored a hit record with “Pump It Up,” which was used in an NBA Campaign. In 2005, Def jam held a listening session for Budden’s second release, The Growth, but the album never materialized. Even without a second album in the market, Budden stayed relevant by releasing several popular mixtapes via the internet and the streets, most notably Mood Muzik 1 & 2.Def Jam president Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter recently told AllHipHop.com that he wasn’t exactly sure how to release Budden as an artist. “If you just want to throw an album out there then next week, [fine]… [Then] you’re recording [songs] about how we didn’t support it. We could do that,” Jay-Z said. “We could do that tomorrow. I don’t think that what he wants. I don’t think that what he needs. Maybe…I don’t know.”Urban legends and gossipers speculated that a 2003 lyrical sparring session might have led Jay-Z, who eventually became Def Jam’s president, to harbor resentment against the younger rapper. When Joe Budden’s “Pump It Up,” began to gain popularity in 2003, Jay-Z recorded his own version of the song, which began to get significant radio play. Shortly, Budden recorded a verse and added it on to Jay-Z’s. In each’s verse, it seemed like they were sending subtle lyrical jabs at each other. Jay-Z insisted that notion was completely false and backed up his statement with present examples. “That [lyrical sparring match] had never influenced my decisions. You see Beanie has a record with R. Kelly (one of his adversaries). Juelz Santana has put and album out. I’m way too big of a person to [do that]. I would never block anyone’s blessing, because of anything personal. If I didn’t want to deal with him, there’s other people there,” Jay-Z said. “I mean, why do we have a problem, I freestyled on his record. He probably made his career off of freestyling over other people’s records. If I start freestyling over other people’s records…Lord forbid.”Joe Budden has yet to reveal his next move, but the third installment of the Mood Muzik series has been highly anticipated, especially on the internet. Jay-Z has recently revealed his next album, American Gangster, to be released on Nov. 6. Fans can read an extensive look at the album by reading Manifest Destiny (The American Gangster Story). Listen to the Jay-Z / Joe Budden “Pump It Up” Freestyle below:
