Billionaire Alki David Wants To Take Battle Rap Mainstream Starting With “Ether” Event

DISCOVER THE BILLIONAIRE BEHIND THE "CASSIDY VS DIZASTER" RAP BATTLE

(AllHipHop News) One of the most memorable parts of Hip Hop culture from 2014 will most likely be the fact that battle rap exploded beyond YouTube. From the Eminem sponsored “Total Slaughter” TV show and event to the BET Hip Hop Awards featuring battlers performing on the main stage during the show, the lyrical competition is slowly creeping its way into the mainstream.

Billionaire Alkiviades “Alki” David of the Greek Leventis family is looking to push battle rap even further into pop culture. The self-confessed fan of Hip Hop and former break dancer sees battle rap as a valuable art form. David’s first move into the industry will be the upcoming “Ether” showcase for his FilmOn.TV internet television site.

“This is definitely the beginning of a UFC-style league for battle rap,” David told the Phoenix New Times. “It’s an intellectual sport and real social commentary.”

The main event for “Ether” is the much talked about match-up between Cassidy and Dizaster. The event will also present a “hologram experience” that will include special guests. David has prior history involving virtual performances. He played a role in the creation of the Tupac Shakur hologram at the Coachella Festival in 2012.

“The format has to be something the mainstream can understand,” said David. “I think what’s going to happen is the poetry of the spoken word will be elevated more and more, because eventually saying ‘f****t’ and ‘n***a’ are going to have to be replaced by something more competitive… There’s only so far you can go.”

“Ether” is scheduled to stream live on December 6th.

  1. For Us By Us. I compare this to that scene from Django Unchained where Leonardo Dicaprio’s character sits watching two slaves fight to the death for less than they’re worth. Pass. Culture needs to own what’s theirs

    1. BIG MIKE SOMETHING SERIOUS

HipHop/Rap should have they own Distribution by now, cut the middle man out the picture, but our people won’t invest in our own. Scared money=No Money. So are we really surprise outside sources jumping on a change to double their profit, It’s always about the numbers, and the right product to exploit.

      1. Lol I know I didn’t include the periods and quotation marks. but the beauty is you still tried to understand which shows true intelligence on your part God bless u 🙂

    1. Only if these brothers and sisters don’t go in “floyd mayweather “minded on handling there business many hate on him but he’s never been cheated out his product ” himself ”

  3. Coming soon to a Smack battle near you…Macklemore vs. Lonely Island if this fool has his way. He is right in saying the lines will have to progress beyond the common standards, but to make it mainstream would mean taking the bite away just so certain demographics can have more say in it. Bottom line is: either you can spit or you can’t. No need to water it down to make a dollar and there are battle rappers that aren’t black that are pretty good. What needs to happen is clearing off the damn stage of the groupies, hoes, and state props and leave the rappers up there alone to handle business. I want to hear them not the fanboys in the background.
