Dave Chappelle pulled off one of those moments that people are going to be talking about for a minute after he brought Kanye out at The Comedy Store in West Hollywood during the “Netflix Is A Joke” festival.
The crowd didn’t know what was coming, and when Ye stepped onstage, the entire room went absolutely silent before erupting into chaos.
Chappelle had just finished his set and was hosting when he decided to introduce his surprise guest, cracking a joke that landed hard: “Kanye West has lost more money than I’ve ever made.”
Ye didn’t perform anything, but his presence alone was enough to shift the entire energy of the night. He walked through the crowd, shaking hands with people near the stage, connecting with fans in a way that showed he was genuinely enjoying the moment.
When he reached the stage, he got a standing ovation that went on for what felt like forever. The two of them stood there together while the applause kept rolling, then they walked off side by side as the crowd continued losing it.
The Comedy Store lineup that night was absolutely stacked with heavy hitters.
Shane Gillis, Chris Rock, and Louis C.K. were all performing, which meant the room was already packed with comedy royalty before Kanye even showed up.
The embrace of Kanye is far different from the treatment he is receiving overseas after he was banned from the UK and several of his stadium dates were canceled in Europe over his past anti-Semitic comments.
“The Netflix Is A Joke” festival runs through May 10, and if this first week is any indication, there’s going to be plenty more surprises before it wraps.
