Funkmaster Flex Talks Drake Vs Kendrick Lamar & Quentin Miller Reference Tracks (VIDEO/POLL)

SHOULD DRAKE BE CONSIDERED IN THE SAME CATEGORY AS K. DOT & J. COLE?

(AllHipHop News) Last summer during the highly publicized feud between Drake and Meek Mill, Hot 97 personality Funkmaster Flex inserted himself in the middle of the rivalry.

Funk Flex was the person that released the Quentin Miller reference tracks which helped fuel the backlash directed at Drake over ghostwriting allegations. The New York based DJ later dissed the YMCMB representative on the radio as well.

In a recent interview, Flex spoke about the comparisons between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. After first suggesting the two Grammy winning rappers were the equivalent of Tone Lōc vs Rakim, Flex went on to explain his thoughts on the matter.

“I like Kendrick. I like Drake. But I guess Kendrick just gets a different type of respect. I didn’t say it. Obama said it,” stated Flex. “It’s just different, but everyone likes it. It’s different. Nothing wrong with that though.”

The conversation then turned to ghostwriting. Flex admitted he thinks Drake is great at making music, but the Bronx native still diminishes the chart topper on his personal list of best lyricists.

“It’s okay to lend a couple of words for a hook. It’s okay to tweak a verse when your man is sitting there with you,” added Flex. “You want to know why I lashed out so hard? Because he disappointed me.”

He went on, “I didn’t believe it. I saw the kid freestyle. I won’t take nothing away from him, the successful part…  my argument is Top 5 in success. If you have a J. Cole and a Kendrick that exists, then it just shifts a little bit. That’s all.”
