Missy Elliott Discusses Her Creative Process On ‘The Read With Kid Furry & Crissle’ [VIDEO]

The entertainment icon gets her flowers on the Fuse late-night talk show.

(AllHipHop News) When Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott was presented with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards, the living legend thanked Kid Fury and Crissle during her acceptance speech. That’s because the two popular podcasters were instrumental in Missy getting that special recognition.

Additionally, Kid Fury and Crissle got the chance to show love to Miss E in person when she stopped by The Read on Fuse. This week’s episode features Elliott discussing her process for writing music, creating concepts, and more. The television show’s hosts also honor the four-time Grammy winner with the “Missy Elliott Annex” and the “Missy’s Things Award Show.”

“When I create, I go in the studio and make sure that I say things that I can show visually,” says Missy in a sneak peek clip of The Read provided to AllHipHop. “I don’t just aim to make records that end up on the charts. I got to be able to see it visually.”

Throughout her three-decade career, Missy has wowed viewers with groundbreaking visuals for songs such as “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly),” “Work It,” “Lose Control,” and “Get Ur Freak On.” The latter hit’s music video was particularly memorable for celebrity cameos, saliva, and a crystal chandelier.

“‘Get Ur Freak On’ – I was like, ‘Yo, I feel like I want to hang from a chandelier,” the Atlantic recording artist tells Crissle and Kid Fury. “They were like, ‘Okay, no problem. Coming up.’ They bring in a little chandelier. I’m like, ‘No, I’m talking about a huge chandelier that I want to hang from.’ It’s always crazy stuff.”

Missy’s innovative aesthetic was supported by fellow iconic visionaries Hype Williams and Dave Meyers. Those respective directors were behind the lens for several of her most notable videos that dominated MTV and BET in the 1990s and 2000s. Fast forward to present-day and Misdemeanor is still leaving her mark on YouTube in the 2010s.

Just this year, Missy let loose Iconology which has been accompanied by seeables for “Throw It Back” (16 million views) and “DripDemeanor” (3 million views). Iconology was met with favorable reviews from critics. The 5-track EP joins a critically-acclaimed catalog that also includes the full-length projects Supa Dupa Fly, Da Real World, Miss E… So Addictive, Under Construction, This Is Not a Test!, and The Cookbook.

The Read With Kid Furry & Crissle episode featuring Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott is scheduled to air November 1 at 11 pm on Fuse. Previous installments of the talk show are available for streaming at fuse.tv.
