(AllHipHop News) Super producer Pharrell Williams has revealed he’s been emotionally hurt over his song “Blurred Lines.”
Not only does Pharrell regret writing the “r#### lyrics” on the song with Robin Thicke, but the tune also cost him a few million bucks.
In December of 2018, Pharrell and Robin Thicke were ordered to pay $5 million to the estate of Marvin Gaye.
The pair were sued in 2013, and accused of ripping off the singer’s 1977 song “Got To Give It Up.”
During a new interview with GQ, Pharrell, and super-producer Rick Rubin discussed the implications of the lawsuit.
“It hurt my feelings because I would never take anything from anyone,” Pharrell said. “It really set me back”
Pharrell agreed the song shared some similarities, with Gaye’s record but that was about it.
According to Rick Rubin, the verdict will have vast implications for creators.
“It’s bad for music,” Rubin says of the lawsuit. “We’ve had an understanding of what a song is, and now, based on that one case, there’s a question of what a song is. It’s not what it used to be. In the past, it would be the chords, the melody, and the words. Your chords, your melody, and your words—none of them had anything to do with [Marvin Gaye’s song].”
