PnB Rock died following a shooting in Los Angeles on Monday (September 12).

The former Atlantic Records artist was shot during a robbery at Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles. He was eating with his girlfriend Stephanie Sibounheuang at the restaurant.

Los Angles police Capt. Kelly Muniz said the shooting took place at 1:15 p.m. local time. The attacker was allegedly trying to steal jewelry.

“He shot the victim and ran out the side door to a getaway car and then fled the parking lot,” Muniz told the Los Angeles Times.

PnB Rock, whose real name was Rakim Hasheem Allen, was rushed to a hospital but eventually pronounced dead. He was 30.

The Philadelphia native, known for his melodic style, initially gained attention with his RnB mixtape series. He signed with Atlantic Records in 2015.

PnB Rock’s breakthrough single “Selfish” dropped in 2016. It was his first song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 51 in 2017. It remains the highest-charting solo track of his career.

“Selfish” was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America in 2017. The single appeared on his GTTM: Goin Thru the Motions project, which dropped that same year.

GTTM: Goin Thru the Motions became PnB Rock’s first release to crack the Billboard 200. The gold-selling tape peaked at No. 28.

He also released his debut album Catch These Vibes in 2017. It debuted at No. 17 on the Billboard 200.

TrapStar Turnt PopStar, PnB Rock’s sophomore studio LP, arrived in 2019. It debuted at No. 4, earning him the first Top 10 album of his career.

PnB Rock expressed frustration with Atlantic Records in 2021. He left the label after dropping SoundCloud Daze this past January.

Earlier this month, the rapper/singer delivered a new single titled “Luv Me Again.” He released the song independently through New Lane Entertainment.
