Rodney King was shot earlier this morning in San Bernardino, California today (November 29) police have revealed.
King, who was infamously beaten by four members of the Los Angeles Police Department in 1991, was involved in a domestic dispute , although police are still investigating the shooting.
According to the San Bernardino County Sun, King was admitted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton with gunshot wounds to his arm and back area. King’s videotaped beating at the hands of the officers caused international headlines in 1991.
The four officers were trial and subsequent acquittal in 1992 sparked the deadly Los Angeles roits, which killed 55 people, injured thousands and caused over $1 billion dollars in property damage.
King was awarded a $3.8 million dollars in a civil case and used the money to launch Straight Al-Ta-Paz Records, a Hip-Hop label that featured a band named Stranded, as well as King himself, who recorded a song after his famous catchphrase: “Can’t We All Just Get Along.”
King has been arrested several times since the 1991 incident on a variety of charges ranging from domestic violence to drug intoxicatoin charges.
