(AllHipHop News) The Root’s Questlove certainly took exception to controversial Fox News pundit Bill O’ Reilly’s latest remarks towards slavery, which seemed to minimize the harsh conditions that were enforced upon the enslaved.
The initial comments which sparked the backlash originated on O’ Reilly’s “O’Reilly Factor” Fox News program Tuesday, when the media giant chose to address an excerpt from Michelle Obama’s speech at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia stating the following:
“I wake up every morning in a house that was built by slaves, and I watch my daughters, two beautiful, intelligent, black young women, playing with their dogs on the White House lawn,” the First Lady said.
In an attempt to fact check the First Lady’s statement, O’Reilly then offered some of his thoughts on the conditions that the slaves were subjected to.
“Slaves that worked there were well fed and had decent lodgings provided by the government, which stopped hiring slave labor in 1802. However, the feds did not forbid subcontractors from using slave labor.”
Questlove of The Roots definitely did not take a liking to O’ Reilly’ statements as he shared a post on his Instagram which provided an enlightening backdrop to many of the harsh conditions that slaves were subjected to.
He also addressed O’ Reilly directly for statements that the longtime Hip Hop artist felt were misleading.
“There is nothing more dangerous than a man in a suit pretending to be a journalist giving revisionist history on the ugliness that was slavery.”
