Hip-Hop Rumors: A Legend In Jail!? Swizz, Alicia And Baby Go Out!

We all heard about the Joe Budden stuff, but now I got another rumor. I heard a Southern Hip-Hop King is in jail for similar reasons. I refuse to say their name, because I have a tremendous amount of respect for this man. But, female sources down in the bing are saying this is true. This doesn’t make me happy at all so I hope it is merely a rumor.

MONICA LEAVES TWITTER!

Monica’s finance has an alleged hateful ex that is spreading lies. So, Monica dumped Twitter. The rumors were that Shannon Brown had another baby out there, but that rumor has been debunked. Here is what Monica said:

Hey there. I want to thank all of u who have been so supportive of myself & family for so many years. I hate to say this, but I will no longer be on twitter.

I love the fact that I am able to speak to my REAL supporters but it has also become a way for people to do malicious things, when my sole intent was to spread positivity. I love u guys dearly and will find ways to stay in touch.

I have dear friends on twitter & team Monica will make sure u have all information on dates etc. Again I love u guys.

But this is better for the protection of my children, my family, fiancé and fans. Too much is being said that I didn’t say and for a person that believes so strongly in being 100 at ALL times. I just can’t do it. I will see all of u guys very soon.

KAT STACKS…THE TRUTH IS THERE

I heard one hell of a rumor. The rumor is, scientist say that the cure for AIDS may lie somewhere in the body of Kat Stacks. Scientists are requesting a meeting with Stacks to study her DNA on how she has effectively defeated the virus. They are extremely excited and feel this is a breakthrough for and will likely halt population control.

SIGNS THE WORLD IS COMING TO AN END

You know the government can basically wiretap you and listen in whenever they deem necessary thanks the public-approved Patriot Act. They got ya. But, here is the funny part. The government is not up on the latest in technology the way these tech guys are going at it. So, guess what the Gov is doing, in an effort to keep  spying? The Justice and Commerce Departments, FBI, and intelligence community is trying to demand that the telephone service provider no longer roll out their latest technology to the people. They are literally trying to MAKE THIS LAW. But, the laws are saying that they cannot find normal criminals anymore, not just “terror suspects” and whatever. That old Big Brother is wild! They want access into your gmail, phone…all of it. Probably your vid, pix of your naked girl…who knows.

 EPIC FAIL OF THE DAY

I’m sorry. I tried not to say anything, but I have to!

ILLSEED’S RUMORS

They saying Beyonce is preggers again. C’MON! Stop this!

Brandy says she hasn’t been “intimate” with a man in years – six to be exact.  Flo Riddah’s game must be weak, dun. She told Life & Style mag, “I was very interested in him. I mean, how can you not be — he’s very attractive. But there was just something about us that didn’t click.”

Click here for Kanye West on Ellen, where he talks about getting his teeth taken out for diamonds. WOW, DUDE!

DO YOU CARE?

Nobody cares, but Ciara and Keri Hilson got on ustream to prove they have no quarrel with each other. Here is the video.

SWIZZ, ALICIA AND BABY EGYPT GO BABY SHOPPING!

Congrats again to the happy family. I know some people are pissy, but not these three.

Dipset Affiliate Noe Launches New Label Merlot Ent.; Planning New Album

(AllHipHop News) Dipset/Byrd Gang member NOE recently launched Merlot Heights Entertainment and is planning to introduce a new crop of Baltimore rap artists to the Hip-Hop game. NOE, who has been featured on several high profile Dip related projects, including Jim Jones’ Pray IV Reign and MOB – The Byrdgang Album, has also worked with major artists like Sean “Diddy” Combs, Ludacris and Busta Rhymes. “This is a monumental happening for not only my business portfolio, but for the Hip-Hop community of Baltimore City as a whole,” NOE told AllHipHop.com. While Merlot Heights Entertainment has secured major distribution, the NOE opted to keep the details under wraps, until the “ink dries.” He thanked Byrdgang leader Jim Jones teaching him the ins and outs of the music business. “I give a lot of credit to Capo (Jim Jones). He threw me in the mix and basically gave me the platform I needed,” NOE told AllHipHop.com. “He had to believe in me to a large extent in order to place his name and reputation on the line. He taught me to how to fish. This game is tricky. You can blink and you’re done.”NOE’S highly anticipated debut album NOE Heat, NOE Hot Water, is slated to hit stores in mid-2011. In addition to new solo music, NOE is planning to release his own squad of rappers named The Baltimore Bangahz, that features group members Huli, Shallone, Lano, Big Chuck Da Hustla, D’Nero, Ryda Rook & Rico. “Signing these artists wasn’t a decision based on talent and gimmicks,” NOE revealed. “I signed them based on their tenacity and grind. They don’t stop.”Merlot Heights Entertainment’s first release is titled The Guntouchables Vol. 1. The free mixtape available for download now and features the label’s entire roster.

ChartWatch: Lil Wayne BREAKS LOOSE!

ChartWatch for October 20, 2010

It’s a slow week again and there aren’t a lot of albums

coming out in Hip Hop but things should start looking up in the next couple of

months.  Albums are set to be released

from artist like Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, Jim Jones, Dirty Money (well see if

this one really comes out), The Game, Lupe Fiasco, Three 6 Mafia, Chamillionaire,

Devin the Dude, N.E.R.D, Cali District Swag, Kid Cudi, Nelly, Cee-Lo Green,

Madlib, Skillz, and more.

Last week I posed a couple of questions.  In reference to the Lil Wayne album being

release first as a digital copy and then one week later as a physical version I

said the quote below:

“Do you think the actual copy will really boost sales?  I mean, do that many people really still buy

actual CDs? “

Well apparently a lot of you out there do because this week

Wayne jumps up from 17 to number 1.  He

sells 410% more than last week by moving 118,747 copies of I Am Not A Human Being.  So

far the Young Money CEO has sold 250,831 copies of the EP.

We is followed by Eminem who drops down one spot to number

five but still manages to sell 49,907 copies of his latest album Recovery.  That brings the album’s totals to 2,833,913.

Waka Flocka Flame drops from 7 to 20 with his debut album Flockaveli.  The 18,187 copies sold this week by the

Atlanta artist brings the albums total sales to 54,611.

John Legend and The Roots take a dip, from 19 to 26, and

sell 15,087 copies of their 70’s inspired collaboration album Wake Up

So far the G.O.O.D Music singer and Philadelphia Hip Hop staple have

sold 125,792 copies.

They are followed by Gucci Mane whose third studio album, The Appeal: Georgia’s Most Wanted takes

the 32 spot, selling 11,961 copies.  So

far The Appeal has sold 93,553.

Finally, Rick Ross moves up three spots to number 40 with

his fourth studio album Teflon Don.  The 9,217 copies sold by the Miami rapper

this week brings his total to 434,118.

Dropping This Week

There are only one real album of interest coming out this

week (and I use the word interest real loosely).  Lil Scrappy drops his third studio album Prince of the South 2 this week.  I don’t see this moving too many copies but

hey…I could be wrong.

Ice Cube Confirms Beef With ‘New West’ Rappers Is Squashed

(AllHipHop News) West Coast veteran Ice Cube has revealed that any possible issues with rappers who represent the “new” West Coast rappers have been resolved. Beef between Ice Cube and a variety of new artists like Crooked I, Glasses Malone, Nipsey Hu$sle and Jay Rock seemed to be brewing this past Spring, when it was rumored that the new rappers were preparing diss records against Ice Cube. The issue began when it was reported that “New West” rappers were unhappy with Ice Cube for his lack of involvement in helping to establish a new batch of West coast rappers in Hip-Hop.All that may change, as Ice Cube has revealed to AllHipHop.com that their issues have been settled. “All that s**t is squashed, [we] are keeping the unity on the West Coast,” Ice Cube told AllHipHop.com. “They know I’m down to work any of them at any time, so there really aint anything to perpetuate. I’m glad ni**as was men about and just said ‘Yo it aint no beef’ and squashed it. The New West and the Old West can always work together to make money.”Ice Cube’s latest album I Am The West is in stores now.

Akon: Back to Basics

After a much-needed break from the spotlight, R&B crooner Akon is stepping back into the lab to crank out a new album. Due out early 2011, Stadium, will infuse the various experiences that the Senegalese singer took in as he toured around the world over the last few years, especially focusing on his performance at the World Cup earlier this year in South Africa. When he wasn’t rocking the stage in Europe, Asia or Africa, the international pop star had his corporate hat on as the CEO and president of Kon Live Distribution making sure that his multi-platinum artist Lady Gaga remained on top of the charts. Now, as he readies the release of Stadium and with the success of Gaga, Akon chops it up with AllHipHop.com about life beyond his artistry as a businessman, philanthropist and the various changes that he’s made within his camp.

AllHipHop.com: What can we expect from your new album? The sound? Features? Production?

Akon: I am very excited about this new album.  This album is called Stadium. I was trying to make the most incredible international album. I want it to suit all ages, all nationalities, [and] all genres. I kind of wanted to push the envelope just a little bit further. I feel like it’s time, now that we’ve figure out a way [how] to keep this making the music move forward in a more positive light…change the sound up a little bit. It’s really high-energy…club and dance. The whole concept and the whole inspiration came from the development and preparation of the World Cup. I was doing a lot of music that we made solely for the World Cup, and I was making this music I started to realize…wow this energy is amazing. While I was in South Africa, doing the World Cup and seeing how these records were playing in the club and all these instrumentals that we did for the DJs were being reacted, and I was like this energy is the energy I need for this next album.

And that’s what inspired the whole Stadium sound, and I kind of wrote that into this new album. I mean it’s amazing man; I kept the features very simple, ‘cause you know I’m kind of personally more of a feature on myself.  It wouldn’t be fare to my audience if I had just a whole bunch of features on my album so I kept it pretty simple to where they can get the full Akon experience. But I did grab Ludacris on the record; you know I never really did a record with Ludacris, that’s like my homie I love him to death, but we never really got a chance to get in and do it big, so I definitely grabbed him on the record with more of an electro record with a hard ass 808 collab.  It’s crazy, it’s called “Drop Down Low” and I also grabbed Rick Ross for a record too.  We’ve been promising each other that we was gonna do a record forever, so I feel like this was the perfect time. That one is called “Give It To ‘Em” which is going to be my official first street single. So we are very excited about this new record now and how everything is moving and coming together.

AllHipHop.com: How did that record with Ross come about?

Akon: The record with Ross actually came about- it was primarily already done.  I hooked up with the Runners while we were in Miami, and that record just came, it was just stupid. I was saying to myself, “Man, Ross just sounds incredible over these type of tracks.” So it was only right that I pulled him; time couldn’t have been no better ‘cause he’s burning hot right now, so I felt like that was the perfect time for me and him to get together.  We reached out to him and he collabed and put it together for me.

Akon – “Give It To Em” feat. Rick Ross

AllHipHop.com: Has Lady Gaga’s success impacted your career in any type of way?

Akon: I think her success actually added to my career. I actually took more of a break on the artist side more than anything in the game because I was focusing more on Kon Live Distribution and making sure that the label itself was sustaining a certain way and have the possible elements to keep it rolling on a big scale to facilitate an artists like Lady Gaga. Honestly, I wasn’t focused on anyone but Gaga.  With artists like that, you don’t have time to focus on anything else. It’s been an incredible movement man, and I just thank God that she fell in my lap man.  Big shout outs to Troy, Vince, Jimmy Ivy for believing in me, and thank you Gaga because she’s the most incredible artist, the hardest worker, never complains, does everything she’s suppose to do, and adds to everything.  Out of all the artists that I have ever had to work with, she is the easiest artist I’ve ever had to work with- I don’t have to do any work on the creative side, at all. She’s the s###.  She makes it so easy for me to be an executive.  Like I have never seen anything like that, and that’s what I love the most. I think with her going this way, she’s never going to be able to fall down, or fall off. Unless she wants to decide that she wants to stop doing it.

AllHipHop.com: Could you see yourself falling back?

Akon: Falling back? I think I am always going to be writing and producing. I don’t think that part of it is ever going to stop. Even if I come in tomorrow and say, “Look, I retire.” I will probably retire from being an artist, you know going on tours and collaborations and all that stuff, but I’m always going to be writing and producing for other artists, that’s like my passion; I don’t see me ever leaving that.  The touring aspect is really hard because the whole time while I wasn’t putting records out here in the states, I was over seas touring the current six songs that I have off of the Freedom album and the Konvicted [album]. I was constantly on the road, and when you dealing with the success of my level, and its on a world wide scale, the world is a lot to cover. So by the time I came back around, I still feel like I just dropped the record. But for my audience here in the states, they are like, “Yo I ain’t hear ‘bout you in almost a year and a half” and I’m like, “Man I ain’t went no where.” But I actually I did, I’ve been traveling, moving around, doing tours and dealing with labels so I think that now is the perfect time…giving the crowd a little bit of time, and now we can come really heavy.

AllHipHop.com: Your relationship with Gaga, is it a close one?

Akon: Yeah, I love her man…she’s like a little sister.

2008 Interview With Akon and Lady Gaga

AllHipHop.com: Do you have any philanthropist efforts coming out?

Akon: Absolutely, I got the Konfidence Foundation. We are very active in Africa. It all strung from concept of creating a better future for the kids in Africa. I started realizing as I was growing up and as I was coming up in this business, I allowed myself to be educated, period.  And I think that was the moment where I became more of an entrepreneur; I understood what the essence of business was. And that was just sitting down and listening and learning from all my mentors coming off of Steven Rifkind, Quincy Jones, Jimmy Ivy, you know just hearing everyone talking and you’re hearing it out. Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson, as they create and how they came up and give you little pointers here and there, you have to those little pointers and use them in your own platform and it actually work for you.

AllHipHop.com: Rumor has it that you fired your team. Is there any truth to this? If so, what kind of changes have you made in your team?

Akon: I heard a lot of all that you know, “Akon fired his whole team” this that and the other. But see what people don’t understand is, as you grow, everything grows around you. They are all still working with me; they are all still working with Konvict and Kon Live.  They’re just working on their different artists. Me personally as an artist, a lot of my team came from a touring aspect.  That was the only changes that I made.  From my touring aspect, I changed and delegated them to other projects because of the fact that…it was a perfect team for what we was doing at the time.

But now that I am going to go straight domestic and on a huge level to show them what a real tour act is like here from Africa to the states.  I needed a team that could give me and reflect what it is that I was visualizing here in the U.S. So what I did I just went and got a couple people that I was working with and knew from the tour market and kind of brought them in to take my touring to a whole other level. Before I was focused on my touring, I was more focused on production, writing, the label. Now that I am going to take this artistry to another level, I feel like I have to get the right team that can facilitate what I’m visualizing on the stage to really show my fans here in the U.S. what kind of touring I do. So I had to get the people that I feel like was perfect for the job.

AllHipHop.com: Are you going to be heading out on tour?

Akon: Yeah, right now we are putting it together. Early next year…I’ll be able to announce all of it soon. I can’t wait.

J. Period and Black Thought Team Up For Live ‘Illadelph Edition’ Mixtape

(AllHipHop News) DJ J. Period and The Roots’ lead vocalist MC Black Thought have released a one-of-a-kind mixtape titled the J. Period Live Mixtape (Illadelph Edition) EP. The latest collaboration between the pair was recorded live onstage on September 26th, at the Toronto-based Hip-Hop festival, The Manifesto. The 30-minute EP features live J. Period remixes with Black Thought rhyming over new and classic rap tracks, singles by The Roots and for a finale, the rapper impersonates his favorite MC’s. “What I love about the Live Mixtape is that it separates the real MCs from the studio MCs,” J.Period told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “As a performer, Black Thought is unmatched in his breath control, and his voice live on stage is just as compelling as it is on wax.  That was the motivation behind this EP, and the fact that it plays as well as a mixtape as it does as a live show is a testament to Thought’s incredible abilities as a live MC.  There’s no one else in his league in that regard.” As an added bonus, DJ J. Period and Black Thought are offering the 30-minute J.Period Live Mixtape (Illadelph Edition) for free, as a download. “I came to do this just on the strength of J. Period’s [invitation],” added Black Thought.  “I appreciate J. Period’s hustle. He’s dedicated and he goes in. Once he has a vision, he’s gonna see it through to fruition.”To download the J. Period Live Mixtape (Illadelph Edition) EP visit http://www.jperiod.com/livemixtape.

Kanye West Pops Up On Ellen

This is why nobody “urban” gets to interview Kanye too much anymore. Because, of these mainstreamers giving him all this love. No shots. Ellen gave him an interview and he talks about the VMA’s, the how Mos Def told him to go away, his mother and some other assorted goodies. Kanye took out his lower teeth and replaced them with diamonds? All this and a “Runaway” preview.

AXE Drops T.I. As Spokesman

(AllHipHop News) Rap star T.I. has officially lost his gig as a spokesman for AXE body spray, just days after he was sentenced to 11 months in prison for violating the terms of his federal probation. TMZ.com reports that AXE will “no longer feature T.I. in our promotional campaign” and has already removed the Grammy Award winning rapper from their official website. A federal judge sentenced T.I. to 11 months in prison on Friday (October 15th), after he and his wife Tameka “Tiny” Cottle was found to be in possession of ecstasy after a traffic stop on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles on September 1st. Yesterday (October 18th), T.I. appeared on Ryan Cameron’s V103 radio show, where he discussed his pending jail sentence. The rap star vowed to never return to prison after his latest, upcoming stint in federal prison. “I’m gonna take it a day at a time,” T.I. explained. “I got a little while to plan. One thing I’m not gonna do is, I’m not gonna talk and make a whole lot of promises and do this or do that. I’m gonna speak more through my music and my actions. And I’m gonna let God lead me wherever that may be.”

Beastie Boys Scrap Hot Sauce Committee Part 1; Move Forward With New Album

(AllHipHop News) The Beastie Boys are moving forward with plans to release new music next year, after scrapping their highly anticipated album Hot Sauce Committee Part 1. The Hip-Hop group scrapped the album last year when Adam “MCA” Yauch was diagnosed with cancer of the preaortic gland and lymph nod, last year. Hot Sauce Committee Part 1 was supposed to be released this year, but was put on hold so MCA could undergo treatment. “It was really disappointing to have to hold the record and postpone the tour, but doctor’s orders,” MCA told Entertainment Weekly earlier this year. “We may or may not [release the album] depending on how my health is come September. We want to but we have to play it by ear…we finished the record over a year ago, so we want to take a look at it and re-evaluate and make sure it is what we want to put out there and that we are still happy with it…”Just recently, the group revealed that they were shelving the album indefinitely, but they will still release Hot Sauce Committee Part 2, in the spring of 2011. While details on the album are scant, the second installment of Hot Sauce Committee is reported to feature a number of guest appearances. Fans of the group are hopeful that The Beastie Boys will be among the final list of inductees to be eligible for nomination to be inducted into the 2010 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The final induction ceremony is slated to take place March 14th at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York.

Big K.R.I.T.: Mississippi Messiah

Big K.R.I.T.: Mississippi Messiah By Seandra Sims

A small, haze-filled concert venue off Canal Street – Santos Party House – plays the backdrop for the “Smokers Tour’s” New York stop. Backstage in a 15’ x 15’ room are 15 or so random people, many of them doing what the tour’s title invites them to do. There, tucked quietly among his own followers is Big K.R.I.T. – not smoking – but excited about the tour performances that night.

To escape the noise, he agrees to be interviewed in the only remotely hushed place available, a single-stall, graffiti-ridden bathroom that appears heavily used. Still, the Southern boy from Meridian, Mississippi, is poised like it’s a red carpet and tuxedo night, and clearly humbled by the attention. In a lowly stall 2,000 years ago, a savior was born, and in this bathroom stall, one gets the feeling that the leader of hip-hop’s next generation has just been born.

True underground Hip-Hop fans already know Big K.R.I.T. Since 2005, Big “King Remembered In Time” has been spreading his rap the old-fashioned way – from town to town and crowd to crowd. Like Jesus, he’s different from his competitors. He raps and produces his own tracks. He sampled a song from England singer Adele for his popular “Hometown Hero.” He’s a rapper’s MC – no real gimmicks or flash, just cleverly crafted spitting for his believers.

“Hip-Hop to me is like storytelling. It’s about telling your life story, so that’s what I do as far as my music,” says Big K.R.I.T. “You feel different ways all the time. One day you might feel like sh*t is all f**ked up; the next day, you’re feeling extra fly. I try to express my belief in spirituality and what I went through financially, poverty, relationships. It’s important that people understand that I’m a human being at the end of the day.”

On this night, the crowd at Santos shows Big K.R.I.T the most love on “Children of the World” – a soulful chastising of the industry and excess materialism, that they recite like his disciples, word for word. Two minutes into the song, he drops the background away completely. Like a good choir in a hot church somewhere deep in Mississippi, he doesn’t need the music to carry the song. “They gave me hell/like I asked for it/signing everything under the sun/but they ain’t ask for K.R.I.T.,” he chants a cappella, eyes closed, absorbing the crowd participation. Near the end, the crowd goes wild, but he’s in a trance at the moment – possibly in disbelief at his own fame.

“That’s why I signed him!” yells Def Jam’s Sha Money XL after the song, while surrounded by a small entourage of his label family. This past June, the former G-Unit architect and current Senior VP of Def Jam signed Big K.R.I.T. to a deal quickly after hearing him. Things are moving fast these days for the young rapper, who has only been with his Cinematic Music group handlers for nine months and is eager to get into the studio to record his Def Jam album. Opportunities like the “Smokers Tour,” where he shares stage time with artists like Curren$y, Wiz Khalifa, and Smoke DZA, are offering prime exposure to help build Big K.R.I.T.’s growing fan base.

“K.R.I.T.’s buzz is from all the hard work he put in over the years prior to linking with me, and then getting with the right team – Cinematic & GFC New York,” says Jonny Shipes, president of Cinematic Music Group. “Nothing happens over night…it was a long time coming and deserved for K.R.I.T. I got a call from Sha Money XL one day telling me he was moving over to Def Jam. I played him K.R.I.T. , he went nuts, and the rest is history.”

As far as being Hip-Hop ‘s young savior, Big K.R.I.T. isn’t quick to accept the label. On “Children of the World,” he makes it clear that he doesn’t have the answers to many of life’s tough questions: “If I can’t trust my own government/who can I trust?/Shorty might have AIDS/like who can I f**k?/Sure enough that be the day/that the rubber bust.” Lyrically, he says he’ll never be afraid to dabble in topics like God and morals and being a hypocrite like some others.

“I think it’s extra important to be honest,” says Big K.R.I.T. “Every time you see me, I’m the same person as my music. I’m just gonna pull my weight, and hopefully at the end of the day, I do what I’m supposed to do, and hopefully I inspire another young artist to do what their supposed to do. Then we can take hip-hop back to where it was, as far as the golden era when I loved it.”

Says Shipes, “I look for timeless artists that paint pictures with their words. K.R.I.T. is an amazing artist, and, I plan on giving that to the world raw and uncut. [He]produces all his own music, sings, and can rap his f**ckin’ ass off, so I’m not worried. I would rather him have 100,000 less fans than compromise his brand.”

In a time of Barbies, light-skinned rap-singers, and heavy Louis Vuitton flossing, only the rap audience will determine if Big K.R.I.T.’s career can go the distance. After all, they crucified Jesus for being better than the others – but not before he had a chance to start the world’s largest movement.

Amen.
