B.I.G.’s Estate Hit With $5 Mil Lawsuit Over B.I.G. Home Vids

(AllHipHop News) Faith Evans has been hit with a lawsuit over personal home videos of Christopher “Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace.

Kaushi Entertainment and Dro-Entertainment filed their lawsuit in L.A. County Superior Court, claiming that they struck a deal with Evans in February of 2007 to sell the personal videos featuring B.I.G. for $30,000.

Kaushi Entertainment claims they were supposed to purchase the films from RocDarling Films, a company owned by B.I.G.‘s associate, Damion “D-Roc” Butler.

Kaushi Entertainment says they made the payment to B.I.G’s estate and received permission to use the videos, which were never delivered.

The company seeks over $5,000,000 in damages over the botched deal. Also named in the lawsuit are Faith Evans, Damion Butler and RocDarling.

Butler served almost eight years in prison for his role in a violent 2001 shootout in front of Hot 97, between members of Lil Kim’s camp and men affiliated with rappers Capone-N-Noreaga.

He was released in late 2009.

Lil Kim also served a year in prison over the shooting for perjury and conspiracy.

The news comes on the heels of a brand new recording deal for Evans, who inked a deal with E1 Entertainment earlier this month and launched her own label, Prolific Music Group.

As a result of the deal, Evans is working on a television reality show titled It’s All About Faith in addition to her first album in over five years.

Dorrough Talks Gangsta Grillz; New Album

(AllHipHop News) Dallas, Texas rapper Dorrough and DJ Drama recently released a Gangsta Grillz mixtape called the Number 23.

Inspired by Lebron James’ success on the basketball court, Dorrough dropped the mixtape in hopes of giving fans something before his sophomore album comes out this summer.

The mixtape includes all original beats and features verses from Shawty Lo, Yo Gotti, Slim Thug, Chalie Boy, Fat Pimp, Zillaman, OJ The Juiceman, Diamond from Crime Mob, Zaytoven and Lil’ Tony.

“The mixtape has been getting a lot of attention for the songs, ‘Don’t Spill My Drink’ and ‘I Stay-A Bay Bay’ ft Dallas All Stars,” Dorrough told AllHipHop.com. “Even though people are trying to buy them for $10 or $15, I’m giving it back to the streets for free. I’m just out there putting them out on the web and everywhere.”

Dorrough is currently touring from Tuesday to Sunday and has yet to dub a title for his highly anticipated sophomore album, which is the follow up to his August 2009 debut, Dorrough Music. “I feel like if Lil’ Wayne can put out free music at his level a lot of artists need to consider that. At the end of the day this is what I do,” Dorrough told AllHipHop.com. “I do music and I want to give the world what I’m doing so y’all can get ready for the album that drops this summer. We haven’t really come up with a name for the album yet, but whatever it is, its gonna be fire, you can guarantee that.”Dorrough had no idea his hit single “Ice Cream Paint Job” would reach the level of success it has reached today.

Originally starting off as just a mixtape song, the single quickly gained attention on the West Coast and the video, directed by Dr. Teeth, was eventually nominated for a BET Award last year.

“The shows really just let me know that I really got a presence around the country. I mean, when you start off, you hear about different stuff, but you really don’t know about it until you see it,” Dorrough said.

“I was just putting out music and to be honest I never intended for ‘Ice Cream Paint Job’ to be a single.”“When I go do shows I see the reactions, the females show love, the bros show love,” Dorrough continued. “All across the country I’m getting the same kind of love I get here in Dallas. So with that being said, it motivates me to keep doing what I’m doing and I’m gonna keep doing it how I do it.”

To date the single “Ice Cream Paint Job” has sold over 900,000 copies worldwide.

Ice Cube: I AM THE WEST

Editor’s Note: Ice Cube wrote the following on his blog, where he announces the name of his new album and why.

I

AM THE WEST…is the name of my new record. After completing about 65%

of my music, this is the perfect title. This s**t is cocky, no

apologies, West Coast gangsta s**t. I can’t help it. That’s what I do.

June seems too tight for a release, but July is very doable. We’ll see

how things go. Now that I have my title, I can work on the concept of

my photoshoot and artwork. I want to provide early merch before the

drop date.

For 7 or 8 years now the West Coast has been trying to do music that

appeals to the South and Mid-West. The words, “too West Coast” would be

heard throughout the industry whenever our music was played. Even by

our own DJ’s. Left coast MC’s were now trying to change their sound to

cater to all the followers. We lost our way. Thank God for b-boys like

Snoop, The Game & WC for keeping the West alive, but we were all

guilty of over reaching. No more. At least not from me. I do it how I

feel it; not how I think it should be done. Radio f**ked us up. I hate

the politics at radio. I don’t know who to pay to get my s**t played.

Having a hot song is not enough. Ridiculous.

I AM THE WEST. It’s coming….

Keep It Gangsta

50 Cent Sued for Leaking Rick Ross Baby Mother Sex Tape

The mother of Rick Ross’ daughter is suing 50 Cent for disseminating her private sex tape over the internet last year.

Lastonia Leviston processed her complaint yesterday (February 24) in Manhattan, alleging that 50 Cent used the tape without her permission, and has caused her to suffer “emotional distress.”

Last March, 50 Cent posted the video on his affiliate site www.boobootv.com as a form of psychological warfare with then rival Rick Ross.

The Queens mogul edited the 13-minute sex tape to include himself under his short-lived Pimpin’ Curly persona. As Curly, he hurled insults at Ross and Leviston, identified in the clip as “Brooke.”

“Double R? Does that stand for Rick Ross in the middle of her m###########’ chest man?! Oh this is cold blooded man. I told n***as I was the beast from the east man. They thought I was bullsh***ing. I ain’t bullshitting  no more man. 1 minute and 30 seconds n***a. You see the tape. It only been on for 1 minute and 30 seconds,” Curly ridiculed. I want you to watch this on your tour bus Ricky. I want you to watch this on your motherf***ing tour bus Ricky. Now how the f**k you gonna say you a boss and you run a motherf**king crew and can’t even control your b**ches. Is this n***a licking on the Rick Ross tattoo? The n***a licking on the Ricky tattoo. Oooh s**t. Oooh man. Somebody need to make an announcement!”

The male participant’s face in the clip is blurred out and has never been identified. According to Leviston’s lawsuit, the tape was made in 2008.

Rick Ross’ other child’s mother, Tia Kemp, aligned herself with 50 Cent last year. She released a tell-all book and appeared in several viral clips, including one where the Queens emcee took her on a shopping spree.

Several months ago, Kemp brought Ross’ son to Floyd Mayweather’s mansion to take pictures with 50 Cent and the boxer.

Ross released his third studio album Deeper Than Rap in the midst of the feud in April 2009. To date, it has sold over 400,000 copies.

50 Cent’s 4th LP, Before I Self-Destruct, was released last November and is certified gold.

At press time, 50 Cent could not be reached for comment.

The Foreign Exchange: Class In Session; Music 3000

The school bell has rung and the lesson for today is Music 101 and it’s not just your ordinary Top 40 heard on the radio. But, rather a duo whose eclectic and eccentric sound which fuses “R&B, Hip-Hop and electronica,” earning them a rave reviews and the much garnered Grammy nomination. The Foreign Exchange consisting of Phonte of North Carolina and Nicolay from Holland, is more than a group with a funky name but the group to watch.

With a new album on the way,

AllHipHop.com: Your last CD was in 2008, are you planning to release any new music?

Nicolay: Yazarah (a fellow collaborator) has been touring with us and has been featured on all of our albums. She is actually one of the first artists that we are coming out with on our imprint. We are working on a new album for The Foreign Exchange for the fall. We definitely have a lot of music coming out this year.

Phonte: Yazarah her album is coming out in May with Purple St. James and then Zo! the keyboardist in the band he will be putting out his album in the summer.

AllHipHop.com: Artists are now taking the more expressive route and releasing mixtapes, is that something that you guys are considering?

Phonte: Not personally, for me. I really don’t see the purpose in releasing a mixtape, unless there is some concept behind it. If you are stuck on a major label and you can’t legally release music for retail then it makes sense. If you have a project that has samples that haven’t been cleared then it makes sense then but other than that I just see it as a waste of time. The time you spend rapping over someone else’s beat you can put that same energy creating something original for yourself. So to me, the mixtape thing has never interest to me that degree.

AllHipHop.com: Some feel music is becoming very formulaic, you guys manage to stay true without compromising your art, how have you guys done so and still appeal to music lovers?

Nicolay: I think we just honestly, followed our hearts, our instinct, speaking for the both of us—I think there is one reason why we make music and that is we love making music. We think from the perspective of the music first and foremost no matter what we do, no matter what opportunity that comes along. I think we always try to make decisions that come from our gut, our heart and our instinct. I think people pick on up on that, people see that and love that out about us.

Phonte: I agree with all of what Nic said. I think a lot of has to do with the fact that we think as fans. We are first and foremost fans of music before we are musicians. I bought records before I made records. We just really think what a fan would want and I think about what would appeal to me as a listener and a consumer, that has been the guiding light.

AllHipHop.com: Independent labels are now becoming the trend with up and coming artists. How do you explain the success with your label from your perspective?

Phonte: I just think it goes back to just thinking of what a fan would, that is on the business side. On the creative side it’s also from what a fan would want to some degree. We make music first and foremost for ourselves. But for me a lot of it comes from a selfish place it comes from me making music that I want to hear and putting out the music that is missing. So that is what I think why we have been successful. First and foremost keeping the fans in mind and creatively doing what’s in our heart.

AllHipHop.com: The group name is unique, who came up with the name The Foreign Exchange?

Nicolay: That was Big Pooh, right?!

Phonte: Yeah, it was Big Pooh–my partner from Little Brother. He was in the studio working on the first album Connected. I can’t remember, I think we were working on Nic’s groove and he was like yeah man its like a Foreign Exchange and I was like damn, it is like a foreign exchange and the name just stuck.

AllHipHop.com: When did you guys meet on the website okayplayer.com?

Nicolay: Early 02

Phonte: Yeah “02”

Nicolay: It has been eight years at this point. It was early 02.

AllHipHop.com: When did you guys meet face to face? ?

Phonte: I would say 04.

Nicolay: Yeah, I would say 04.

AllHipHop.com: Wow! What an unorthodox approach to make music using the Internet to produce music. Your first album was put together over the web without ever meeting each other would you recommend that to someone coming up?

Phonte: I don’t even have to recommend it I know cats who are doing it already. Its just funny how a paradigm can change, when we first started you know doing records via email was something radical. “You doing this record with this cat and you never met each other.” It was seen as something so out of the norm. Back in the in day it was unorthodox, but now it is the norm.

AllHipHop.com: Were there any difficulties or complications putting together the first album?? ?

Phonte: Other than the time difference that was probably the biggest obstacle. Really!? then it wasn’t an obstacle because I am night person and Nic is a day person. So when he is getting ready to go to bed I would still be up and we catch each other online. I would work in the studio; go to sleep and Nic would work. He would go into the studio; work, go to sleep and I would check on what he did—that is pretty much what it is like now. Other than the time difference that was the only big problem I could think of.

AllHipHop.com: We talked extensively about the first album; tell me about Leave It All Behind and that album?

Phonte: Leave it all behind just a new beginning, I guess. Just leaving the pass behind, move forward and not letting any of your worries or doubts hold you back. That was pretty much the meat of it. You can read into it and interpret different ways.

AllHipHop.com: What is going on with Little Brother and is there a future album coming out?

Phonte: There is an album coming out April 20 and that will be our last album, there is nothing coming after that. Me and Pooh are the best of friends; we have taken the Little Brother brand as far as it can go.

AllHipHop.com: After this release, (Phonte) will all of your attention if not a good chunk will be directed to the Foreign Exchange and future projects?

Phonte: Yeah, me and Nic are just really focusing more on building the Foreign Exchange brand and getting ourselves out there as a songwriting and production team. We will be more focus on that, of course the new The Foreign Exchange album and then sometime next year I will do a solo album one thing I have yet to do. So, um that is the plan. The Foreign Exchange album will be in the fall, sometime around October.

AllHipHop.com: How will your solo album differ from The Foreign Exchange brand?

Phonte: I am only three songs in so, I can’t call it. It will be more rhyming.

AllHipHop.com: When you said you plan on developing The Foreign Exchange brand, what other avenues are you looking at other than songwriting, producing and rapping?

Nicolay: That pretty much covers it, I know that our first priority is to get those releases out and get ‘em heard by as many people and build our brand as producers. We do stuff all over the place and that keeps us on toes, we are busy with new shows and music—that pretty much covers it.

AllHipHop.com: Tour dates! When are you guys touring?

Phonte: Check out our website theforeignexchangemusic.com, we have dates in April, May and the summer.

AllHipHop.com: It just dawned on me, are you guys working with Darien Brockington on his up coming release? ?

Phonte: We are working on something it probably won’t come until next year. He is on the projects we are releasing. He is on Yazarah’s album, he’s on Zo!’s album and he will be on the next Foreign Exchange album. Ladies will definitely get their share—their fix of Dbrock.

AllHipHop.com: Is there anything else you want to add?

Phonte: No, Look for Yazarah coming out in May—we are so proud of it. Zo!, look for that in the summer and The Foreign Exchange in the fall. Everyone just spread the word!

What in tarnation is going on with you people?Campbell pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct of a hazardous and physically offensive nature back in October. CHANCE ENCOUNTERSPeep what my homey Chance has to say about these rumors in these streets. Remy sets the record straight too. No boom boom with Remy Ma!

WAY BACK WHEN

DJ Whoo Kid just released this footage he’s been sitting on for a while.  Check out this interview with Kanye West before he got in the car accident:

REMY DID NOT F**K NICKI

When a video of some AG talking about how she used to f**k with Remy Ma surfaced a lot of people claimed it was a pre-fame Nicki.  Miss Minaj has denied the allegations and now Remy Ma is denying them.  She called into the Jenny Boom Boom show from the joint and cleared everything up.

Here’s the video that sparked all the rumors:

KEYSHIA’S SISTER PLAYING GAMES

Keyshia Cole’s un-famous sister, Elite, had a little fun with the blogosphere yesterday when she congratulated her sister on giving birth.  After the story broke she went back to her Twitter and said:

Ummmmm…I don’t know what she was trying to prove but this was just annoying.  I can understand if she made some random rumor up but congratulating your pregnant sister on giving birth???  Why would anybody think you’re lying???  I guess she just wanted some attention.  This media Tom Foolery is probably why Keyshia don’t be f**kin wit yall like that no more.  I’m just sayin.

YOUNG BERG SAYS HE WASN’T ROBBED

The rumor is Young Berg was pistol whipped and robbed during a home invasion at a party in the Hollywood Hills.  Berg released this video to clear things up.  Apparently he was in Vegas when the alleged whipping occurred.

Is the Internet to blame or is Berg’s reputation for having his possessions easily removed to blame???  I must admit I didn’t doubt the story one bit when I heard it.  Sounds like the kind of thing he’d be involved with.DO YOU LIKE ME???  Check Yes or No

Arron Afflalo, currently of the Denver Nuggets, and Ciara???  Maybe.  CiCi has been spending a lot of time rooting for her friend Carmelo Anthony and Arron, who sources say is very shy, tried to break the ice on Twitter.  He hit her saying “r u only allowed to cheer for one nugget? Just wanted to say Hi since I walked past you a hundred times this summer ;)”.  Awwwww do we have a high school romance brewing???  50 better put a ring on it before Arron scoops her.

SNEAK PEAKI can’t co-sign the message behind this song but the video is looking like it’s gonna get a thumbs up.  Teairra Mari and Soulja Boy recently linked up to shoot the video for her single “Sponsor” and she was keepin it real sexy:

L.A. REID GETTING THE BOOT???

Lucian Grainge, Chairman  and CEO of Universal Music Group International out in the UK, will replace Doug Morris as CEO of Universal Music Group (UMG) January 1, 2011.  UMG is the parent company of Def Jam and as you may know L.A. Reid is the Chairman of The Island Def Jam Music Group.  I’m hearing when he takes over there will be a lot of “re-structuring” at Universal and Mr. Reid’s head may be on the chopping block.  Apparently Lucian isn’t happy with a string of disappointing projects including Rihanna’s last album, which only sold 2.5 million worldwide while her previous album sold 2.6 million in the U.S. alone, Mariah’s last album flopping and Lady GaGa becoming a superstar at Interscope after Def Jam dropped her.  Also, Lucian isn’t very happy with L.A. Reid’s self promoting demeanor and thinks his private parties, media presence and a reality show he is currently shopping are a gross display of his wealth.  L.A. DID just move his Hitco Publishing company from Universal to EMI might be getting ready to split.  Hopefully this Shyne project pays off or it may be the final nail in the coffin.

Here L.A. is on his recent trip to Belize to draft Shyne:

I’M JUST SAYIN’Foxy Brown is aging a lot better than some of her counterparts.Mashonda and Swizzy’s divorce should be final soon…happy belated b-day to Mashonda.Ummmm…What was the point in Beyonce’s bodyguard releasing a statement if he wasn’t going to address the allegations he’s sleeping with Beyonce?  It was basically here’s who I am and I love my job.

The Dream and Christina Milian say their new baby girl, Violet, will be here by Sunday.  Congrats!!!!

If you’re coming to the Leaders Of The New Cool show tonight come say HI!!!Peace – ChanceCDR Twitter Facebook and Gmail

AllHipHop ChartWatch: Sade Stay On Top, Lil Wayne & BEP Stay Top 10

ChartWatch for February 24, 2010

After 10 years without releasing a new album, Helen Folasade Adu managed to claim the number one spot. The Nigerian born, British songstress better known as Sade continues to hold the top spot selling 191,000 copies of her sixth studio album Soldier of Love.

The Black Eyed Peas jump from eight to three by moving another 66,000 copies of their latest offering The E.N.D.

They are followed by Lil Wayne’s rock album which remains in the 10 ten since its debut three weeks ago. Rebirth moves 59,000 copies and grabs the number five spot.

Lil Wayne also has some good news when we look beyond the top ten. The YoungMoney CEO’s compilation album, We Are Young Money, moves up eighteen spots to 21 selling 20,000 copies this week.

Jay-Z also moves up the charts from his position at forty-four last week. The Blueprint 3 holds the 31st position this week selling 16,000 copies.

The next two artists haven’t been in the top fifty for the last few weeks but it looks like their fans have given them a much needed boost. First up is Gucci Mane’s latest offering, The State vs. Radric Davis, which moves another 14,700 copies and helps the Atlanta rapper claim the 39th spot.

Finally, Marshall Mathers a.k.a Eminem enters back onto the top fifty and claims the number 45 spot. The Detroit MC’s chart topping album, The Relapse, moves another 13,700 this week.

Dropping This Week

First up is 1/3 of the Hip Hop trio Dilated Peoples, DJ Babu, who is releasing the second edition in his Beat Tape series. The Beat Tape, Vol 2 is Babu’s eighth album and those not familiar with him as a solo artist should definitely take a look at his previous works or YouTube some of his DJ work.

I don’t know too much about this next artist but she’s being released by Stones Throw Records so she might be worth a listen or two. Georgia Anne Muldrow has worked with Erykah Badu, Madlib, Mos Def, and this week drops her latest album SomeOthaShip.

Keeping in the same vein as Georgia we have another Stones Throw artist. Madlib drops Medicine Show No. 2: Flight To Brazil. This is another album that I don’t know much about but it’s from Madlib and Stones Throw so it’s one you should definitely pick up.

Finally Planet Asia & Gold Chain Military release Chain of Command. I’m off my game because I don’t know much about this album either. Someone let me know about some of these underground albums if you’ve heard them.

That’s it for this week. We’ll see what charts next week.

Yelawolf: Odd Man In

Not many new artists can afford to be this crass and flagrant in entertainment. Perhaps his daring antics should garner our attention more. Yelawolf is concentrating on being the best at what he does, and right now he’s carved out a niche that he clearly dominates successfully.  The young rapper has the self-made power and desire to provide a blended cure to Hip-Hop. He’s not ecstatic about the possibilities of bling and would probably jump over a barrel of Maybachs to push a Chevy. Yela is not afraid to keep it country boy simple and let the product do the talking.

For some Hip-Hop heads it can be difficult to embrace someone who might not fit a traditional criteria of rap music. This Alabama native is different, but he pulls it off without having to pucker up and sell his soul, rather he acutely chooses to sell his music. He has many variables that emerge without limits. He has worked to perfect every component of his career and is still grooming himself daily for his adventures in entertainment.  Already having worked with Raekwon, Juelz Santanna, Slim Thug, Bum B, Pill and many more Yela doesn’t emulate anyone but pays homage to the culture he’s loves and respects. Yelowolf allows for Hip-Hop to stretch beyond its wildest imaginations.

AllHipHop.com: You’ve been doing this for a minute, but how long have you been waiting to get right here at this point in your career?

Yelawolf: I wasn’t waiting per say but rather I’ve been just working to get better and better. I’ve always challenged myself to reach the next level. After the deal with Columbia we put out “Slick Ricky and Bobby” which was a tribute to Talladega Nights, then we did “Stereo” which is Hip-Hop ’s tribute to classic rock, next we released “Arena Rap” which is an experimental band EP.  We’ve just been working, working, working, and decided to release a rap project “Trunk Muzik.” We released that on the first of January and it just caught fire online. So it’s not really about waiting to get to a certain point, but it’s about doing what feels right and making music that feels good then letting the people decide what they like.

AllHipHop.com: We see all of these reality TV shows like “American Idol” and “Making the Band”  you did the “Road to Stardom” with Missy Elliot. Can you tell me whether that experience helped to launch your career at all, or at the end of the day when the cameras cut off you still had to grind from the bottom to the top?

Yelawolf: I would give people the advice to really study a situation first. Man, I was hungry when I did that I had just had my first baby so at the time when they were auditioning for that show I just went for it. I saw an opportunity so I went for it. I mean being seen and getting exposure is always a good thing. Because of that show in part is how I met Jeremy Jones and Jackie Chain from Huntsville then got over to Atlanta. I mean everything happens for a reason, but as far as the reality show and what it stood for it was some bulls**t. I had actually auditioned for the next Hip-Hop superstar which is what they were telling me the show was about, but when the finalist all made it on to the show it was really random. They had some singers, dancers, a Christian artist, some rappers, and some wanna be rappers all mixed in together. It was wack to me but still a good opportunity. I gotta thank Missy for putting me on but, no, it didn’t launch my career.

AllHipHop.com: Now you have a great track record in the mixtape game. How would you describe your growth from Slick Rick and Bobby to  Stereo to Arena Rap to the current Trunk Muzik?

Yelawolf: My main areas of progression, is in songwriting and through performance. Especially in my performance is were I’ve grown the most. Going back to Slick Rick and Bobby I have the same hunger for rap and delivery as an emcee, but when you fast forward to Trunk Muzik I just went into overdrive. I just wanted to out do everything that I’ve ever done lyrically. The hunger has gotten stronger. The need and want to succeed and be the best has changed drastically. I also got a better grip on the value of my team; the whole team has actually progressed as a unit, which is why all of this is happening. It’s not just my records, its not just me performing, its that collectively we’re grinding and making it happen.

AllHipHop.com: When can the people expect to see the album?

Yelawolf: Before the year is up you’ll have a full length album. I think we’re going to do another mixtape. I don’t know the title and I don’t know when it’s going to drop and I haven’t even recorded one record for it yet. But I’m not worried because we record really quickly. We recorded “Trunk Muzik” in a week’s time. We’re really just focused on putting visuals to “Trunk Muzik” right now. I’m going out to do some shows for South By Southwest then after that I’m going on tour with Wiz Khalifa, which I’m very excited about too.

AllHipHop.com: I’m thinking about the line in your song “I Wish” when you state “I wish a motherf*cker would tell me I aint Hip-Hop .” Are you running into a lot of haters out there? Because your music is so eclectic do you feel that it is meeting with any resistance or producing any misconceptions for you as the type of artist you are.

Yelawolf: Yeah I think that concept came from people crossing there arms at my shows, and no matter what I would come out with or what type of show I would put on you still have those motherf**kers who are just gonna keep their arms folded. So that record is for them. Actually one time when I was live with Raekwon and opening up for him in Atlanta I came out and had a few hecklers. For the most part the crowd was feeling it, but there were a few people who were just out right booing me and talking s###. So I stopped the music and I dropped “I Wish A Motherf**ker” would because that record is specifically for those types of people. And I delivered every line straight to the dude’s face then jumped into the crowd and delivered the rest of the record to his face. I have a few records for those types of situations like “I Wish” “F**k You” and “Don’t Make Me Pop The Trunk.” It’s all apart of my intensity as an artist.

AllHipHop.com: I know you love Alabama, so I want to know has Alabama been showing the love back to you. Are you going to get the keys to your city now or have a street named after you, lol?

Yelawolf: For those who have access to the Internet back home, they know what’s going on and they are hugely supportive. Most people are just waiting for my CD to drop. Honestly in Alabama most people are still waiting for that hardcopy. I mean I live in a neighborhood where nobody has a computer and even if they do have a computer they won’t be online. I don’t even go online much at all. I mean I’ll go online from my Blackberry. I had to catch up I just got a Twitter right before Trunk Muzik dropped. I was forced to do that but now I love it. My town is real Hustle and Flow like the movie. It’s just dope boys and working class people living life. Alabama is hugely supportive of their artist though like I remember when Ruben Studdard won the American Idol there were billboards all over the state of him.

Interview with Yelawolf; story continues after video.

AllHipHop.com: You’ve had an interesting childhood. Your mother had you when she was a teenager and raised you on her own then you went to California to be a skate boarder. How have these experiences shaped your music?

Yelawolf: I mean everyday of my life has some how influenced and shaped what comes out on my records. All my experiences with my mom and those endless stories as a skateboarder mixed with the life of someone pursuing music, and life on drugs and alcohol has all shaped me. The other day I was just saying that the key to having endless things to talk about as an artist is in using concepts. There are millions and millions of things in the world to think about and create metaphors for songs. I use my own perspective, the things I’ve seen, and the things I’ve been through good and bad to create records. That’s one of the dope things about Hip-Hop  is that you can be unspecific and just talk about anything. Hip-Hop always you to stretch your story out forever.

AllHipHop.com: Do you apply the same focus into rapping as you do when trying to do a complicated skateboard trick?

Yelawolf: It’s exactly the same kind of passion. When I’m in the booth I get p##### off if I can’t drop the verse the way I want it in the first try. It’s like if I can’t land a trick that I know I can do that I’ve done for years I get mad. I punch s###; I punch the walls in the booth all the time cause I just get so p##### off when I don’t do what I know I can do perfectly. It’s also very independent when you’re on the mic and you’re trying to deliver something that you want, it’s an independent story that you’re trying to convey. It’s just you and the mic that’s all you got in there to get your point across. When you’re out there on the streets with your skateboard it’s just you and your skate board. You have nobody to blame but yourself if you f### up. It’s the same laws and the same principals. It’s about having a style and persevering and landing that s### just like persevering and making a record dope.

AllHipHop.com: Has the skateboarding community supported you as an artist?

Yelawolf: I would like to think so. For the most part all of the skateboarders that I’ve met are real supportive. Not every skateboarder likes Hip-Hop . I grew up skateboarding and through that the world of skateboarding has brought me tons of underground Hip-Hop  and the culture of the music. I’m just a skateboarder I mean I don’t want to write a record about skateboarding anytime soon but it’s just something that I do. I love to do it and I will do it forever.

AllHipHop.com: Most new artist try and fit a certain criteria and adhere to the rules of the industry, but you just don’t care, why is that?

Yelawolf: I really don’t give a f**k because it never pays to care about the politics of the industry. Somebody is always breaking the boundary anyway. I just leave it all up to my team. They trust me when I step on stage and I trust them to go handle the other s**t. I don’t get involved in any of the politics within the industry. I’ve been s**t on so many times by industry people that I just don’t give a f**k anymore.

Charlotte Hip-Hop The Focus Of ‘Crown Royalty’

(AllHipHop News) The Charlotte Hip-Hop community will be the focus of a new movie that will premiere this Friday (February 26th) titled Crown Royalty: The History of Charlotte Hip-Hop.

A red carpet screening for the movie will take place during CIAA Weekend at the Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte. Crown Royalty examines The Queen City’s Hip-Hop scene by interviewing local artists, labels, personalities and landmarks.

“Charlotte’s Hip-Hop scene is like so many other places that I’ve seen in my travels,” director Mehka told AllHipHop.com. “They have their own style and celebrities, but have yet to break into the mainstream largely in part to its location and small town perception.”

The goal of Crown Royalty is to expose Charlotte’s thriving music scene, which Mehka believes has been unfairly overlooked. “I hope this documentary shines a spotlight not only Charlotte, North Carolina but all the ‘Charlottes’ of the world,” director Mehka explained to AllHipHop.com.

Local artists like Diggie Die of Liquor House Records, Ike Turnah, Big Treal, Tiny T, Wolly Vinyl and Kam Moye, Royal-Tee, Maui, The Transfers, Sonny Rich and other Charlotte rappers are featured in the flick.
