President Obama Tells Jay-Z He Loves BP3

(AllHipHop News) Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 album has received its biggest endorsement via President Barack Obama. In a recent interview with BBC One, Jay-Z disclosed that the President loved the LP and was playing it during their recent phone conversation.

“Barack loves Hip-Hop, when I called him he was playing Blueprint in the gym,” he explained. “I’ve been invited to the White House a couple of times. Hopefully we’ll keep him in for 8 years so I’ll have time to get there.”

Obama has been a self-admitted Hip-Hop fan for years, and first met Jay-Z in 2008 as part of his goal to help emcees use their art to spark critical thinking and bridge generational rifts.

Also, the then U.S. senator was hopeful to see Hip-Hop artists as a whole move away from the misogyny and materialistic slant that’s gripped the art form’s mainstream in recent years.

“I’ve met with Jay-Z, I’ve met with Kanye [West]. And I’ve talked to other artists about how potentially to bridge that gap. I think the potential for them to deliver a message of extraordinary power that gets people thinking [is great],”Obama told BET on the special What’s In It For Us? “There are times, even on the artists I’ve named, the artists that I love, that there is a message that’s sometimes degrading to women, uses the N-word a little too frequently. But also something that I’m really concerned about is they’re always talking about material things about how I can get something; more money, more cars.”

Jay-Z acknowledged the Hip-Hop nation’s potential political power, but rejected the notion that artists should tone down their messages. Instead, he insisted that artists have a responsibility to speak on the uncomfortable truths of society, and not relegate their art to propaganda.

“Sometimes there are hard truths in rap, they’re not packaged with pretty ribbons. Sometimes the realities of the situations are harsh and they need to be told,” Jay reasoned to the BBC. “We’re the poets of our generation! Those truths and those honesties need to be told and sometimes that will rub people the wrong way but that don’t mean you don’t tell them. I think when rap is done brilliantly it can inform you of a problem, things that are going on.”

Even as the pro-Obama Hip-Hop songs slowed following the President’s January 2009 inauguration, Jay-Z has remained one of his strongest supporters.

The Brooklyn native spoke favorably of Obama throughout Blueprint 3, including the songs “What We Talkin’ About,” “On to the Next One,” and “Reminder.”

Today (February 19), President Obama will hold a town hall meeting at Nevada’s Henderson high school, followed by speaking engagements at the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce, and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

AHH Stray News: Lil Wayne Surgery, LMFAO vs Mitt Romney, Masta Killah Live

Lil Wayne had a marathon surgery session this morning to fix his teeth prior to a year-long stint in jail, which is scheduled to start on March 2. The rapper was slated to be sentenced to jail on February 9 in New York, for attempted criminal possession of a weapon over a July 2008 incident. The sentence was delayed so Lil Wayne could have his platinum “grillz” removed. Additionally, he received eight root canals, had several tooth implants redone and had various real teeth repaired during the eight hour session.

A member of the group LMFAO was thrown off a flight from Vancouver to Los Angeles on Monday (February 15), after an altercation with politician Mitt Romney. TMZ.com reports that Sky Blu attempted to lean his seat back while the plane was still on the tarmac. Romney allegedly became enraged and started yelling for him to put his seat back up. Sky Blu allegedly smacked the former presidential candidate’s hand off of him. Authorities then boarded the plan and removed the rapper off of the flight. According to reports, LMFAO videotaped the entire incident. Representatives for Romney denied Sky Blu’s claim and stated that he was the aggressor.

Wu-Tang Clan member Masta Killa will release a new digital-only album on March 30th titled Live On Stage. The 16-track album is Masta Killah’s first recorded concert album and features the rapper’s standout verses he was written ver the past 17-years ranging from his 2004 solo album No Said Date to his verses on GZA’s Liquid Swords and Legend of the Liquid Sword albums. The full track listing is below:

FAKE CASH MONEY OIL CO?

Check this out, circulating on the net.

As for what Bronald is doing in the oil and natural-gas business, the Williams brothers declined through their publicist, Kia Selby, to comment. Selby said she was unable to provide information about the oil company. Bronald doesn’t have a listed telephone number. Numbers for residences in New Orleans and Florida that are linked to Bronald in state records don’t take incoming calls. Officials within the oil industry have also reportedly denied its knowledge of Bronald Oil.

Further reports by Bloomberg show that the oil company is listed as serving oil to Oklahoma, Florida and New Orleans, but Oklahoma’s oil industry authority claimed to have never heard of such a company and said that they have never partnered with Bronald Oil & Gas LLC. Records in Oklahoma also list the address for the corporation to be a beach front condo in Florida. This all doesn’t add up to be a good scenario for Bronald especially since they just launched.

Tony Rock: More Than Chris Rock’s Brother

As one of Brooklyn’s funniest, Tony Rock is far from following in his big brother’s footsteps, instead he’s blazing his own path in the world of comedy and beyond. With his Rock the World brand set to conquer the stratosphere one laugh at a time, Tony Rock is about to set it off with his first ½ hour comedy special, which kicks off the new season of Comedy Central this week. One of seven brothers, three of which are comedians, Rock has been making us laugh for years on stage, in film and on television most notably as Dirk Black on the long running UPN comedy “All of Us” which earned him a BET Comedy Award nomination. With a politically incorrect disposition, the hilarity of his live stand-up show has crowds laughing out loud while shaking their heads saying “Oh no he didn’t!” Currently touring the country with his one-man show, Rock took time out to talk to AllHipHop.com about what’s been going on in his world. AllHipHop.com: What’s going on Tony how have you been?Tony Rock: “I’m on the road, about to go to Atlanta, then DC then New York before my Comedy Central Special airs on February 19th. I shot it in September and its finally airing on February 19th. It’s the new season of half hour comedy specials and mine is first.?AllHipHop.com: Why did it take so long for you to get your special?Tony Rock: I don’t know, I think they thought I was gonna say cracker or something like that. They probably thought I couldn’t do a show without the vulgarity but the cursing doesn’t make my jokes, my jokes are funny with or without the cursing. I just talk on the stage like I talk to my friends. I don’t filter myself when I talk to my friends and yall are my friends. Y’all know what I mean when I say that M#### Fu**a is crazy.AllHipHop.com: Do you miss being on television? Are you working on getting back on TV?Tony Rock: I do. Actually I had a pitch meeting yesterday. I pitched my sketch comedy show to comedy central yesterday; they’re kinda warm to the idea. I guess that’s what they say to you but I’m gonna keep pitching it.AllHipHop.com: Good luck with that. I saw you on TMZ recently talking about Game and Tila Tequila so I want to get some social commentary from you.Tony Rock: Yo this is the thing here’s what I should have said, see people hate on Tila Tequila, but I LOVE Tila Tequila. First of all everybody loves Asian chicks, that’s a fact. And on top of that, she’s Asian and she’s a lesbian, that’s like having cake with pie on the inside.AllHipHop.com: But you must admit, she’s a tad off at times.Tony Rock: What girl isn’t a tad crazy? Show me a girl who isn’t crazy and I’ll show you a girl whose phone is not ringing off the hook. Every girl that other chicks be like ‘yo that bi**h is crazy, it’s a line of ni**as waitin to f**k this girl.AllHipHop.com: You are crazy. Did you go to the Grammy’s? Who did you like?Tony Rock: I didn’t watch 1 second of the Grammy’s. I’m not a Grammy dude because I can’t sit thru a bunch of acts that I don’t know who they are and I don’t care who they are. I’m more of a BET Awards guy because I know all the acts, I know who’s nominated, and I know their songs. Grammy’s are like ok we’re gonna give you a little bit of Hip-hop and then back to this white stuff that yall don’t listen to. I can’t sit thru a Lady GaGa or a country artist. I don’t even know who yall are.AllHip-Hop.com: Ok since you’re all about Hip-hop, give me your top 5 emcees.Tony Rock: In no particular order Jay-Z, Big, Nas, Rakim, and Grand Puba, honorable mention, Kool G Rap and Big PunAllHipHop.com: I’m not mad at that list but its way East coast slanted.Tony Rock: Tupac is not even in my top 10 yo!AllHipHop.com: I wasn’t saying he should be but Pac isn’t the only West coast artist who has mad a contribution to Hip-hop.Tony Rock: No I said that because my boy just asked why I didn’t say Pac, but I’m a Hip-hop head from New York. We base it on lyrical ability and lyrical dexterity. Pac never said anything like “Dead in the middle of Little Italy do we know that we riddled some middle man who didn’t do diddly”AllHipHop.com: Well he didn’t have to; he’s Pac, but what about Ice Cube? The West has plenty of lyrical dexterity.Tony Rock: Cube is dope. Cube is better than Pac.AllHipHop.com: I agree with you on that and I love the East coast too, I’m just saying the West coast tends to get over looked a lot that’s all.Tony Rock: See people are gonna take that the wrong way and think “oh he doesn’t have love for the West coast” and there are a couple of West coast cats that I do love but you said MY top 5. I can’t just put somebody in from the West coast just to show my support for the West coast; no you said my top 5 – now deal with it! AllHipHop.com: I know and I’m really trying to change your mind.Tony Rock: Don’t get mad because I have an opinion.AllHipHop.com: Ok moving on. On the show “Everybody Hates Chris” the character based on you, “Drew” was the popular one with all the girls and everything, and your brother Chris wasn’t so popular. When did the tide shift and is that why Chris got into comedy to compete with his little brother?Tony Rock: Nah (laughing) my brother has always been funny. I’m not trying to sound like some rapper or anything but I think its just that I was always more in the streets than my brother was ya know, like being at the park playing ball and kickin it with my friends in the neighborhood so they just knew me more. He was more the normal guy ya know, school, and work, and I was just running the streets doing whatever.AllHipHop.com: People always say comedians have tortured souls, were you tortured?Tony Rock: Well tortured soul is different then actual torture but yes we (comedians) are. Its just the pain of dealing with things, we just deal with things a lil different ya know? We might love a lil harder, be a lil more clingy, maybe a lil more emotionally involved so that’s when the torture comes in when it doesn’t go your way.AllHipHop.com: But you told me once before that you don’t love remember? Your never getting married remember?Tony Rock: Yeah, well eh – Kanye Shrug – (laughs) I doesn’t mean I don’t care. I get emotional and connect to some people though and if it doesn’t work there’s a sense of loss.AllHipHop.com: Who would be your top 3 females in Hollywood that you would like to date if you could date anyone?Tony Rock: Does Halle still count she just dropped two babies.AllHipHop.com: What difference does that make she’s still gorgeous.Tony Rock: Ok who else, I don’t want to say Beyonce that’s too obvious, everybody says her besides I don’t want to disrespect in case I run into Jay somewhere and he be like so you wanna date my wife huh? I’ll say Lucy Lu and Selma Hayek is she still fine?AllHipHop.com: See now you gonna get all the sista’s mad at you (laughs)Tony Rock: You said Hollywood who’s Black in Hollywood?AllHipHop.com: Umm Taraji, Gabrielle, ZoeyTony Rock: Ok you’re right its Black History Month lets change it for the sista’s. Halle Berry, that chick on that show the forgotten Rochelle Aytes and lets keep it real black Precious.AllHipHop.com: (laughs) You probably just made her day she might have her agent call you tomorrow. In the spirit of Black History month lets have a Black History Hip-Hop moment. Who would you pay tribute to in Hip-hop this month and why?Tony Rock: Well I’d have to say Will Smith, first of all because he gave me a job, but also because he was the first rapper to get a Grammy wasn’t he?AllHipHop.com: Yes.Tony Rock: Also he just always holds himself in such high regard around the crackers ya know? When he’s around them White folks he makes them think hey maybe those ni**as aint that bad.AllHipHop.com: You are out of control! You’re always so funny are you looking for new roles to play? What would be your ideal role?Tony Rock: I want to do a drama with my brother. I want me and my brother to do something serious.AllHipHop.com: You were kinda serious in that movie with Queen Latifah on HBO.Tony Rock: It was a serious movie but I was funny. There was AIDS all around me and I’m still like hey I’m funny! (laughs)AllHipHop.com: If you had AIDS would you stop having sex?Tony Rock: Absolutely.AllHipHop.com: That’s good. You strike me as the if I gotta go I’m taking all yall with me type. Tony Rock: Nah, I’d probably just move to the mountains and disappear.AllHipHop.com: On a lighter note, tell us about your special and what we can expect.Tony Rock: February 19, Comedy Central. The new season of Comedy Central presents its ½ hour specials. There were about 24 comedians who taped their specials and I was the last guy to his special and I’m the first one they’re gonna show so that should tell you something about the work I put in, its dope. I was excited all my brothers were there, my whole crew from Brooklyn, it was crazy.AllHipHop.com: Were you going in on anybody?Tony Rock: Nah I talk about the Kanye thing a lil because that was fresh in the news, I talked about the guy yelling out “you’re a liar” at Obama because that had just happened but the other stuff I just kept it observations and jokes.AllHipHop.com: Speaking of Obama, how do you think he’s doing in office?Tony Rock: I love Obama. There is nothing bad you can say about Obama. He’s the President but he’s dope because uppity Blacks love him and hood ni**as like him because you can still see just a lil bit of hood in him. Like when he gets out the helicopter and walks across the grass. Its like you can see there’s a path there for him but he’s like fu** that I’m walkin’ on the the grass and he got that lil bop in his step so hood ni**as are like ‘I can see a lil bit of myself in him’ and bougie Blacks are like Yes he represents us well.AllHipHop.com: (laughs) you are too much. You don’t have any rap albums or anything coming out do you?Tony Rock: Man I always keep a hot 16 ready.AllHipHop.com: Stop playing, let me hear something.Tony Rock: “I came a long way from getting money off the books, now I’m in LA getting money off my looks, and I’m kinda handsome so I gets mad checks I’m cashin, ni**as mad and they hatin I aint mad I’m just laughin’.”AllHipHop.com: Thanks Tony and good luck with everything.

Drake Lashes Out At Fake Promoters; Warns Fans Of Scam

(AllHipHop News) Canadian rapper Drake has come forward to clear his name in regards to a group of phony booking agents and false promoters, who continue to use his name for financial gain.

The latest string of fake bookings were concentrated in the south. In all instances, the individuals have misrepresented themselves as Drake’s manager in order to secure and then pockets deposits for the phony shows.

“It has been brought to my attention that false promoters and booking agents are illegally using my name and likeness to promote concerts and club appearances for their own financial gain,” Drake told AllHipHop.com in a statement today (February 18).

“It is frustrating for me to hear that many of my fans, who like myself are innocent victims in these scams, have been misled due to the greed of these promoters,” Drake stated. “I apologize to any fan that has been a victim of these circumstances or feels let down by false advertising.”

Drake is co-managed by Bryant Management and HipHopSince1978. His bookings are handled by International Creative Management (ICM).

In November 2009, it was revealed that an imposter was utilizing Twitter and Gmail to secure deposits by posing as Cortez Bryant, the CEO of Bryant Management.

That individual was never apprehended.

“Please be assured that my team and I take these matters seriously and are actively cooperating with authorities. I cannot thank my fans enough for supporting my music and all that I do,” Drake stated.

Romeo Throws Free Concert At Six Flags For Haiti

(AllHipHop News) Rapper/actor Romeo has announced plans to host a free concert at Six Flags Magic Mountain in order to collect books for schools being rebuilt for students in Haiti.

Romeo and The College Boyys have teamed with I Heart Haiti Kids and Six Flags Friends, the philanthropic arm of Six Flags for the concert. Fans can bring 2 books to Six Flags Magic Mountain, which is located in Los Angeles.

In addition to receiving discounted admission to the theme park, Romeo, The College Boyys, Kyla Pratt and others will perform at the theme park.

“We are focusing on the importance of education and helping devastated Haiti kids through their recovery process to receive a basic education,” Romeo told AllHipHop.com. “In the U.S., a basic education is a necessity but in poor countries like Haiti, it’s a luxury. Every kid, no matter how poor, deserves a basic education. Our mission is to give Haiti kids a chance at a good start. By our team effort and our kids getting involved and doing their part, we are touching the hearts of a nation of kids that have lost so much.”

Romeo stated he realized it was a challenging, time consuming process, but he would continue to campaign and call on his celebrity friends to assist him in rebuilding schools throughout Haiti.

“By donating and recycling books we are giving Haiti kids the opportunity to read, stimulate their imagination, hope, and dream, envision, and prepare for their future,” Romeo noted. “I’m also reaching out to my other celebrity friends such as Jaden Smith, Miley Cyrus, Justin Beiber, Keke Palmer, Jonas Brothers, and Nick Cannon to help join in on this movement.”

Romeo’s free concert at Six Flags Magic Mountain takes place on Saturday, February 27.

I Am The Epic Beard Man

“Showing these young punks what the business is.” – Jay-Z

I am the The Epic Beard Man.

I am standing on the road of life and I am looking in both directions at the same time.

I am roughly half the age of the 67-year-old man that beat the hell out of a young whipper snapper that apparently thought he was a thug on an Oakland bus.

I am staring at my previous life as a young, wild dude that had no issues with a lil’ after school fight and what I hope to be one day. I think about myself now. A workout fanatic. I box. I lift weights I never saw in my younger days. I run miles I never ran in my 20’s. And I have a mind that is keen on keeping what I have and protecting all that there is to protect (myself, my family and my belongings).

Then there is the other me. The me I see in decades to come.

In times of unrest and beef, I see myself as Thomas Bruso aka The Epic Beard Man.

He may be White, but he is what I hope to be when I get older. Old and ready to give anybody what they are asking for and then some if there is a problem. He beat that young chump like he stole his last piece of chicken and I love it.

But the young dude didn’t realize that The Epic Beard Man has been through some s**t in his life! Thomas Bruso is a Viet Nam Vet and he’s got several other names like Tom Slick, Viet Nam Tom and other colorful names. Young dude, who people now call “Coolio” for some reason, didn’t realize that The Epic Beard Man had been tasered at an Oakland A’s game and didn’t flinch (the first time). Bruso stood up to police (after acting quite unruly) and was the first person in A’s stadium history to be tasered during a game. It took a second jolt of 50,000 volts for him to be taken out. The cops were scared to face his imposing 6’1″ and 280 frame.

So what made this young fool think that he could give The Epic Beard Man a beat down so easily? He’s clearly an idiot that’s why. First, he came was turned into a fight talking way too much. Second, he continued to menace the elderly man despite Bruso’s willingness to walk away (while talking junk). Thirdly, he put hands on the man and wasn’t ready to throw down. He had one hand wrapped around a subway pole as The Old Bearded Epic Man rained hard rights and lefts to the face of “Coolio.”

At the end of the brief fight, “Coolio” was leaking blood all over the place and whining for an AMBALAMPS.

So, the moral of the story?

I am a mother f**ker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (The phrase was on the back of Brus’ light blue shirt.)

Seriously, I know several Brusos. They are my father, my uncles and other older dudes that are simply cut from a different cloth than a lot of these younger dudes. They have hands bigger than your face just because they use them so much in physical labor. These men don’t exist too much these days…Straight like that. I’m glad to have them in my bloodline though. And, honestly, despite the hype, Epic Beard Man vs Black Guy is not REALLY about age. And its definitely not about race, even though a lot of people are making a big deal over it being an old White man versus a young Black man.

It’s about riders and punks, in the immortal words of Pac. Which side are you on? I am the The Epic Beard Man.

On everything.
