Jay Electronica Returns To Twitter With Message For Lyor Cohen & Peter Rosenberg

(AllHipHop News) Two months ago Jay Electronica abruptly deleted his Twitter account, but the prodigal son has returned to the social media site with a few words for some people in the industry.

The Roc Nation emcee is calling for accountability from record executive Lyor Cohen, radio personality Peter Rosenberg, and others associated with Hip Hop.

Both Cohen and Rosenberg have been in the news this summer for controversial reasons. Dame Dash called on Cohen to address his role in what Dash sees as label heads pitting rappers against each other for financial gain.

Rosenberg angered many in the culture when he publicly accused Public Enemy’s Chuck D of “trolling” and questioned the rap legend’s recent participation in Hip Hop.

Electronica mentioned Cohen and Rosenberg by name in a series of tweets today. The “Shiny Suit Theory” rapper says Rosenberg needs to apologize for his comments about Chuck D and Cohen needs to answer some questions. Jay made it clear it’s not about “beef” but “accountability.”

I like Jay Electronica but is this really front page news? This guy hasn’t even sold a record in his life.

  • i’mreloaded!

    Nigga, shut da fucc up!

  • KobieDixon

Time for us to ride out.

  • He’ll yeah the time has come!!

  • $36424596

This dude is a nobody and none ya’ll ridin wit him.
White people buy the most albums, white people’s opinions mean more, and white people will continue to run the industry.

    • W.E.B. Du Bois

white people have no culture that’s likable, white people have copied off Us for styles – white people do have culture in child rape

      • Tizzy

Ever heard of a little thing called Country, Rock, Pop, Metal, Grunge? I’m pretty sure those are mostly “white people” genres that have PLENTY of culture and support amongst white people. lol smh

What you fail to realize is that Hip Hop is not even close to the highest selling genre of music anymore.

      • W.E.B. Du Bois

most those genres you named came from us – I’m also saying that we never copied styles or ideas from you – everytime it happens, you copy ours

      • Dope

What idea came fro YOU specifically? Don’t take credit for another man’s work just because those men share a few DNA strains with you. Do you, make yourself something instead of just going back to find someone similar to you in skin color and take his accomplishments as yours.

      • Opposite Of Everyone

what have YOU personally done though, brother…?

      • DJ7

Blues is the father of Country and Rock dumbass…the other two is just some weirdos making noise for other weirdos

      • Money Nice

What you fail to realize is that even in the genres you mentioned such as Country which derives from the Blues, Rock, and Pop were mastered by Black artists who were not given the same opportunities to excel during a time when racism and Jim Crow was at it’s highest point. Many white artists copied and stole black artists music and used it as if it were they’re own. Steven Tyler admitted to being influenced by Blues greats like Muddy Waters. Unfortunately Europeans are culture vultures and seek to piggy back off the back of Black artists and make more money because they control the system. Grunge sucks, Metal is a bunch of mindless screaming. Pop was mastered and dominated by a Black man turned White due to not having pride in his race but later came back to his knowledge of self before he passed. Whites have profited off of a genre that they swore up and down would never survive. Your people lack talent, resources so they steal to survive. No shade just truth!

      • Tizzy

STOP playing the race card and live in reality. You will actually get alot farther than blaming everyone for your lazy ass not doing shit in your life. GTFOH

You ever notice how our own people are quick to throw shade at our own? I rarely ever see that from other races when their artist rant really. Even if they do, they can afford it, there are more of them. I do not understand how anyone who is African-American can find fault in what Jay E is saying. The comments show me why me and my sisters are having a hard time finding strong black men. Be careful what you say about your own, they do. Jay and others are doing this for pride and dignity and respect for the culture that created itself. Come together on something brothers and sisters. Don’t be ashamed to stand up for your own, they do. Now man the fu(k up. I personally think it has become a gag reflex for black dudes to immediately blurt out “he aint ish”. Think before you speak, they do.

    • hitmhard313

Thank you for saying what i been saying for a long time we hate who we are but love who we can’t be but it’s okay they hated Jesus and his own people had him crucified. And y’all won’t find any good men out here when there’s a bunch oh hyena’s roaming around.

    • Poseidon

I can agree with most of what you’re saying, except for sentence number seven

———- Jay E’s more than likely doing this for relevance.———–

This man looks more and more like a publicity hounding opportunist every time he takes to his social media accounts. There’s a reoccuring pattern here. Now, I agree with his feelings on Dame’s opinions regarding this whole culture vulture issue, but he’s just using it here as a vehicle to further his own agenda (once again). He’s grasping for straws of relevance. Aside from that, he’s tryna walk into this situation like an authoritative figure but there’s something crucial here that he’s overlooked:

      Nobody answers to nobodies.

      • Opposite Of Everyone

The concept of ‘relevance’ is irrelevant to the culture. Rather it is a product of the corporate takeover and perception of rap as an industry. Hip-hop culture is about skills first. The measure of ‘relevance’ pertains to sales and as we all know those figures have nothing to do with quality of music.

        Jay wack though IMO…

    • yup, very true…The minute I saw it on twitter I was ready to find out how can I be down…Let’s support each other and stop this black on black hate.

    • Markus

Appreciated your thoughts. Your sisters out here need more influences like yourself in their lives.

Another fake revolutionary with a white girl and a pork sandwich….

Whatever Jay.. drop an album already.

  • 8Galaxy5

    This fu*king guy
He should stop talking as he was relevent.
Dude still has not dropped an album.
Basically,he is a nobody in the game.

    • Spirit Equality

If Jay Elec is a “nobody”, what are you “8Galaxy5”? An 85er, indeed.

      • Jake Zero

Spirit Equality, you must be either exhausted or laughing your head off continuously serving that exquisite Ether to these misguided ‘sheep’!

  • Sean Power

kmt he does ever few months than delete all the tweetsand bow downs

  • I been saying they need to clean house for a long time……It’s true the whole Hip-Hop industry need a make over…It’s time for change.

  • Eny Daboss

Yaws.. clean up? time like hip hop was something big … hip hop is music, pop etc are music away to express yourself…. what clean up is he talking bout? trynna put an album out then talk bout hip hop… a bunch of sheeps trying to follow other sheeps… dame trynna play jay and he is where he is now cause of it not cause of cohen….

    • Spirit Equality

“Hip-hop is not pop, if you call it that, stop” – Q-Tip. Hip-hop is a culture, not just music. And we respect our elders in this culture. Saying a veteran in this culture like Chuck D is “trolling” and “looking for attention” for making valid criticisms about the most influential radio station in the country is disrespectful. Jay Elec is right on the money. ps: “Sheep” is the same word, singular and plural; no -s is needed to make it plural.

      • Eny Daboss

are you the type of nikka that tryna kick knowledge saying that rapper should be killers and rapers? since the culture of hip hop was about it? knowing that none of them never did it? since you kicking grammar and knowledge.. cause most of those veterans didnt do ntn to keep it real… they hating on everything new and on every new rappers… cause if i go their way, hip hop is racist and only killers and drug dealers should listen to it or rap about it, i think hip hop was music … the same way jazz and other type of music ppl used to tell the world bout their feeling and conception of the environment where they living…. but your name is spirit equality… these nikkas lol

      • This is what I am talking about…One black man asks for change in Hip-Hop and his own black brothers are quick to talk smack without even looking at the facts to see how you can contribute to the movement…Black people wake up, let’s unite, stop the hate.

      • God Body

you have a very short and shallow perspective. Probably because your young. What you’ve been failed in is been given a correct historical and logical perspective of how Hip Hop has evolved over the years. You elders have failed you in that regard, but that doesn’t mean you can shoot your mouth off about schittt you obviously don’t have a clue about. When someone does actually ‘kick knowledge’ don’t just shoot your mouth off like you just did. Listen and learn from those who have more experience than you then make your mind up.

From how you wrote your last answer to SE it’s plain to see that ‘keeping it real’ isn’t what you think it is.

      • Sit back & take that “L” homie…he got ya’!

      • Spirit Equality

I’m not a “nikka”. I’m a black man. Yes, my name is Spirit Equality, “Eny Daboss”. Care to state any other obvious points without saying anything? Maybe you can get some of your “Eny Employees” to help you craft a better response.

Another one whining on Twitter. YAAAAAWWWWNNNNN…….

    • ihatehater

You mean sort of how you b*&ching here??

  • Markus

Totally agree with dude but in all honesty the problem is bigger than just music. The whole culture is suffering. There’s too many people comfortable with their ignorance. There’s too many people higher up the ladder than Jay Electronica that do nothing but profit from the present climate. There’s too many fools out here quicker to make jokes than make moves. And there’s too many buffoons who ask well what are you doing rather than opening dialogue to a solution. The hard truth is there is a way to reach the place where the culture belongs. Unfortunately we all aren’t meant to get there together. There’s far too many people who are not built to make that trip.

  • water_ur_seeds

    Who gives a fck???

Hes not gonna make schitt happen, he cant even release his own album…

Its annoying, all this other schitt we are always hearing from him, I just want a fckn album released!!!

You can’t diss chuck d period……Jay elect?!?!? He’s calling out lyor cohen for dame, but jay z calls lyor his mentor and Jay elect is signed to jay….I bet you this goes away real quick cuz Jay-Z ain’t tryin to hear that shit.

    • Unless there’s another jay Z power move in the works.

      • Eli Pinilla

I doubt it. The power move Jay did the first time, the one that kinda got him where he’s at today, he did with full support of Lyor. I don’t think Jay would ever co sign this. Especially when he knows the shit is coming from Dame….But I agree with jay elect though. Shit gotta be cleaned up. But he should start in house first. Clean up new Orleans and those fools over there at young money and work outward. As long as there’s people with slave mentality, there will be people out there ready to master them.

      • Politics!

Lyhor has been ontop since Russell, his days are over!

        Chuck D, etc.

This looking like some “accidental” John Gotti / Big Paulie at Sparx!

      • Eli Pinilla

Hahaha!!! Well Edo my G, we got front row seats.

      • Their bottom fell out when they tried to diss Chuck D.

That was a big miscalculation….then the whole Pac letter to chuck, angie M leaving….for Power 105…’chet is gonna change.

      • Eli Pinilla

Yea, in regards to rosenberg and ebro. I think they need to apologize on the morning show. The shit needs to be extra public.

But I can’t connect what Dames doin with what happened with chuck. It all just kinda came together. To me, those are separate issues. Even Angie leaving. When it comes to hot 97/chuck d beef, I agree, that’s a blow. But her leaving to go to 105, in regards to the execs and what dame talkin about, holds no weight cuz she’s just going to another radio station with the same control and same situation as hot 97, minus the disrespect for the legend.

      • Karma is a MuddaChucka!

Don’t think that didn’t sit on Antgie’s mind.

      • Eli Pinilla

Edo man, I don’t know what the f*ck they was thinking calling Chuck D a troll and shit like that. I don’t always agree with Chuck, but I would be damned if I ever came out my mouth like they did about him….they trippin too hard. And a lot of it is more ebro then rosenberg. Ebro put that energizer on his back.

      • He should have put a nuclear reactor in his back if he was going against Chuck! The man shut down a state ( AZ?) over the MLK holiday.

Maybe Dame was just in the right place at the right time, or it could just be that them dudes were already in a precarious position before they misstepped with Chuck, but one thing is crystal clear, if them dudes were Hip Hop, were really there, they wouldn’t have made that mistake.

Pac looked up to Chuck…..more Ninjaz looked up to Pac than Ebro, Rosenberg & Shot97 combined.

      • Eli Pinilla

Hahahaha!!!!!! That ngga needed some solar power f*ckin with Chuck. They lost that one before it even started…..Dame Def on some “right place, right time” type shit. • artcryme99

I want that Rosenberg apology too but I’d rather just see him gone. Nobody that came out of 90s hiphop culture would fix their mouth to dis Chuck, Rosenberg is a fraud he aint hiphop. And its clear that Rosenberg is really feelin himself for some reason? that shit is a mystery whats his talent being related to somebody

    • therealjjohnson

I didn’t see it as a diss honestly. It was more of a response. No one is above reproach.

      • artcryme99

what? It was a dis, he called him a name, fool. Rosenberg didnt feel the need to “respond” to any of chucks criticisms, and instead behaved as if he was the one beyond reproach

      • therealjjohnson

Well I guess you just dissed me because you just called me a fool. Maybe you didn’t see the video or hear the audio of his response to chuck, because it wasn’t disrespectful. It’s still on hot97 YouTube page. Chuck was tweeting them all weekend in regards to something they have no control over. He was mad at how hip hop was portrayed via summer jam. That was 50 and his goons who made people look bad. Not radio station.

      • Spirit Equality

Read Chuck’s tweets again, he wasn’t talking about 50’s performance, so your “that was 50 and his goons” makes no sense in the context of this discussion.

      • darksavior

it was a fn dis wtf is wrong with you people

      • therealjjohnson

Said he was trolling. That doesn’t rank high on the diss meter in my opinion. To each his own.

      • darksavior

He also questioned what Chuck D currently does to push hip hop culture forward ,Chuck D GAVE MOST OFF HIS LIFE FIGHTING INJUSTICE IN AND OUT OF HIP HOP THAT IS THE BIGGEST DISS OF ALL!, THE ONLY OTHER RAPPER THAT HAS GIVEN MORE IS KRS-1

      • therealjjohnson

So because he poses a question he is being disrespectful? Its so cliche to say Chuck D and KRS for everything related to hip hop.

      • ihatehater

Take your opinion and shove it up you uknowhere.

    • ihatehater

I couldn’t agree more. An apology is a must. But what’s even more welcome is his demise.

  • therealjjohnson

Jay need to worry about his own accountability. We still haven’t heard an album sir. Who’s accountable for that?

    • ihatehater

He doesn’t have to make a album. He doesn’t owe you an album you bum. Now, I am accountable for my comment, Like that?

      • therealjjohnson

This is what I don’t understand about you commenters…why must you be so emotionally involved? Why do u have to be a bum? The fact that you result to name calling as if you were a child, make me not take your opinion serious. Lose the emotion and just make your point. It makes you come off as an internet tough guy. And lame.

      • Opposite Of Everyone

Emotions distinguish healthy humans from psychopaths!

  • therealjjohnson

So why can’t anyone say something about Chuck D? Not like he was disrespectful. He asked a simple question, why Chuck always talking about what’s bad about hip hop and not embracing anything new? Only time I hear from him in the news is in response to something else. That’s where the “trolling” comments come from. And just because chuck D said it doesn’t mean hip hop as a whole agrees with it. Like Rosenberg said “respectfully” who made Chuck D the speaker for all things hip hop?

    • artcryme99

he was disrespectful you clown. He called him a name just like Im doing now, and didnt, couldnt respond to chuck’s argument. Chuck has been putting out music for decades, the only reason you dont “hear him in the news” is because people like Rosenberg run it. If you actually read what Chuck said, you’d know that he gave props to lots of new hiphop artists, just not those played by hot97.

      • therealjjohnson

So i guess you’re a tough guy huh? Thug on the internet much? This 54 year old man is out of touch with the current state of music. The generational gap is apparent. He is 30 years older than the people making music right now. It doesnt take away from his past accomplishment. But i can day he doesnt speak for Hip Hop as a whole. You know like i Know Rosenberg is a radio personality. He doesnt spin records on the morning show. He does however later in the evenings and on the weekend spots. And its “real hip hop” music and not the 10 hottest songs in the country. Im just tired of everybody acting like if someone has a difference of opinion, youre “dissing” someone. Its childish. About as childish as your response to my comment. Disagree with me, i dont care. But you result to fake internet tough talk and name calling like a child. FOH.

    • ihatehater

His clean record makes him the unchallenged speaker for HH. Ad calling someone a troll is not respectful. And you know this!!! So stop making excuses for the jackass’s comment.

    • Pirate7X

Chuck D; legend & Hip Hop leader who makes dope music.
      vs.
Rosenberg; radio troll & cornball who’s done NOTHING for even pop rap today.

Winner: Chuck D, 1st round knockout in 90 seconds Tyson-style.

      • therealjjohnson

I cant dispute Chuck D’s status as an elder in hip hop. Its solidified. But please link me to the last “dope music” he released since you put it in your response.

        Thanks.

      • Pirate7X

Please link me to anything Rosenberg has stated or done publicly of benefit, interest, or entertainment to the Hip Hop or Rap culture.

He is an employee with a big mouth and bigger ego beyond his actual leverage.

        Merci.

      • 5% Hov

U aint wrong but that doesn’t negate his point….
        Ciao

      • YaheardSyndicate

Chuck D and Public Enemy have plenty of albums on spotify. They got dropped by Def Jam because they released their album on the internet back when labels were scared of it. Chuck D is a pioneer and part of the reason youre on the internet talking about hip hop, but you might not understand that. Also Chuck D taught us to Fight the Power, but nowadays Hip Hoppers wanna be just like the Power. Ebro, Rosenberg, they are employees who just fill a spot. Why are they acting like they contribute anything culturally to music or life in general. The problem is, these guys want the spotlight like they are artists and they aren’t. If Rosenberg has to question who made Chuck D the authority on HIp Hop then that says it all. Chuck D made Chuck D the authority on Hip Hop.

      • Pirate7X

        Boom! Tell ’em YHS.

    • Sensi Star

Some say asking a question is never dumb.

But you damn sure proved that saying to be wrong.

“why Chuck always talking about what’s bad about hip hop and not embracing anything new?”

This isn’t hip hop. It’s bullshit rap. There is a difference. Tell me the last time you heard a song on the radio that doesn’t tell you to f’up your community, kill a black person, disrespect women or sell drugs.

That’s what rap is on the radio. The record labels will have it no other way.

Don’t give me Kendrick because that was a phenomenon.
If High Powered was ever played on the radio you would have a point.
That type of music was played on the regular before the record business found out they don’t have to be the KKK. They can get black rappers to spout the same thing.

      • therealjjohnson

First off that wasn’t my question, second…it’s still valid. Third, why do you equate hip hop as a whole with radio? I don’t even listen to the radio. I don’t care what they play. If you go to hot 97 to find out about hip hop then you are the lost one. Radio, or corporations have never been for anything uplifting…so stop looking for it there. Chuck D can complain to he is blue in the face and it will mean nothing. Hot 97 is never playing uplift the people music.!i don’t expect them to. Wouldn’t care if they did cause that’s not where I discover music. I wish y’all would be this passionate about something that actually matters in life. Feels good to “stand up for chuck d” smh. Y’all act like he Martin or Malcolm. He apart of the same system you claim to hate. And all the music he made wasn’t no uplift the people shit either.

  • Hector G

Someone should literally slap jay electronica. Old lame with an album dropping NEVER that NO ONE gives half a crap about. Now he’s BACK on TWITTER lol telling record execs and radio personalities what to do. Peace old man, if i was Rosenberg i’d laugh at you live on air..if i was Charlemagne you’re the donkey of the day…easy. Jay electronica IS literally the worst rapper almost EVER. ZERO MATERIAL, the small amount of material is overrated which consists of like 35 mins lol, everything is conscious garbage that actually makes little to no sense when one focuses on his lyrics. JAY ELECTRONICA is one quarter as good as TALIB KWALI was or is so this guy isn’t even making noise in his own lane. I hope…..matter fact i know you’re album will sell bout 9,000 copies worldwide in 2025 when you are 50, old turd.

    • Spirit Equality

If you won’t do it personally, don’t tell anyone else to do it. If you met Jay Elec in person, $500 says you wouldn’t do a thing to him. Stay on your keyboard typing angrily about how someone should get slapped over a tweet, Internet gangsta.

      • Opposite Of Everyone

the whole “you wouldn’t say that to his face” argument is illogical. You also probably wouldn’t taunt a Rottweiller or a shark/lion/gorilla etc in person but that doesn’t mean you respect it as anything more than a beast or animal.

      • Dumbest analogy ever!

      • Opposite Of Everyone

        how do you figure?

      • 5% Hov

        nigga please

      • Spirit Equality

You are indeed “the opposite of me” because you’re ignorant enough to draw an analogy between a black person and an animal. You were poorly raised and deserved better parents.

      • Opposite Of Everyone

WTF has being black got to do with anything brother ? ALL HUMANS ARE ANIMALS! The only difference is humans are the only species uncivilized enough to be threatening their own race with extinction. But you’re right in that I am indeed the opposite of you.

      • Spirit Equality

Jay Electronica is black and he’s the person we’re talking about. Youre not intelligent enough for me to continue corresponding with.

      • Opposite Of Everyone

I think you’ll find Jay Electronica is human before he is black. He is also many other things; a man, a rapper, an under 50, someone who lives in America…. I’m not entirely sure why you feel the lowest common denominator/first level of categorization is his blackness?

And furthermore, your initial assertion that someone ‘wouldn’t do it in real life’ is an inference that they would fear a violent reprise eg. a loss of control or display of animal-behaviour from the recipient. Why would someone not dare say something to his face if there was no risk of violence/animal behaviour?

However as I’m not intelligent enough for you to correspond with perhaps you might instead merely ruminate on the matter…

        Peace brother.

      • 5% Hov

        LOL that nigga is trpiing.

    • ihatehater

You should slap yourself for posting an irrelevant comment. If you have a man crush on Jay and need to speak about him, go to his twitter you fa&. This is NOT abouy Jay!!!Stick to the topic.

    • 5% Hov

      I aint mad at you

  • anemia716

drop an album please. until then…

    • 5% Hov

      word

  • Mack

I agree with a lot of what Chuck D has said. And regarding Dash’s rant about culture vultures, hip-hop could probably need less Lyor Cohens and more Wendy Days.

  • dbfromdc

JAY Z AINT NEVER GOING TO PUT THIS NIGGA OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 0STFUUIGNANT0

Some are asking for an album or else his opinion aint relevant or something. How many are going to actually buy it, even if its the greatest sh!t however. Yet theyre still going to feel their (often ignorant) opinions are relevant.

    • Glasscut

And your opinion about somebody’s opinion is relevant..

I’m down for the evolution of HipHop. HOWEVER….. we need to pick a better and more credible leader. I’ll rock with Chuck D but Jay Electronica laid up w/that RICH WHITE WOMAN talking about accountability. LMAO~! I never understood this phenomena. Folks want to go against the WHITE MAN but you’ll lay with his daughter/sister. Ummmmm that’s counter-productive. Don’t attempt to appease me talking bout Black Queens/SIsta/Brothahood and you couldn’t even bring yourself to align with a Black woman. I know a few of ya’ll guys on here will call me a hater for this but it’s my opinion and I’m sticking with it. I will not lay down or have children by a White man when I want to start or be fully involved in the revolution of freedom for Black Ppl.

    • SAD_FACED_CLOWN

Another one of those “forever alone” types aren’t you?

      • EbonyLolita

Huh? Where’d you get THAT from? LOL Don’t worry about who and what I do. Just know that I got a brotha by my side!

  • digitallife

When mofo’s are getting money in the industry it’s all about “Look how i’m living” but as soon as the engine slows down and the spending has to be put under control then it becomes about “They pimping us”. Here’s some logic, be patient with me here. How about when the money is good you start opening your own business? How about you start offering better deals with more creative freedom? How about you start a marketing agency that sells us the product of intelligent artists better than that of the dumb? How about you use some of that bright @ss limelight at your highest point of fame to pull up lyricists like Talib, Mos, Common, etc? Nah instead we’ll just sit over here and complain. Them rich powerful dudes are gonna cut me a check to s t f u and perhaps bring me in on a situation. Hip-hop is organic it was meant to be a lifestyle and an art, not ideally a business. The bad part is there have been so few entrepreneurs willing to hold on to the businesses they start, first offer they get they sell it. When you had rocafella, bad boy, death row rocking everyone was selling. Nobody in those situations was controlling the artist, they got them great beats and let them flow. We got some crazy hip-hop out of it. Roc got sold, bad boy sold half to motown/arista, and death row imploded. What’d we get after that? Straight up marketing. Money ruined hip-hop, soon as mofo’s started feeling important, wealthy (not rich), and powerful it became all about that. You have more people talking about how hov stays on forbes instead of the fact he ain’t dropped a 5 star verse in years now. R&B singers now practically gotta turn the stage into a strip club to get a tour. The moment we stopped turning on the radio, buying big label albums, is the sooner our investment into indie artist will change the majors on how they release music.

  • Wdup wit that album doe? We know u ain’t worried bout it really, don’t even trip Jay we ain’t either
