(AllHipHop News) Hip-Hop star Wyclef Jean will announce his bid for the President of Haiti, a source has confirmed with AllHipHop.com exclusively.

Sources close to Wyclef confirmed with AllHipHop.com that the rapper will announce his bid for the country’s highest office next Thursday, on August 5th.

The 37-year-old was born in Haiti, but immigrated to the United States at the age of 9-years-old, when he landed in Brooklyn, before settling in South Orange, New Jersey.

As a member of The Fugees and as a solo artist, Wyclef has sold millions of records, in addition to collaborating with artists like Paul Simon, Gloria Estefen, Destiny’s Child, Carlos Santana and others.

The rapper sprung into action on January 12th, when his native land was leveled by a 7.0 earthquake that left 300,000 people dead over a million others displaced.

Even prior to the earthquake, Wyclef Jean’s Yele Haiti organization raised funds for the country, but after the deadly earthquake, the rapper helped raise over $10 million dollars in less than three months.

The rapper will make his official announcement just two days prior to the country’s August 7th deadline to submit his plan for running for President.

Analysts are predicting that Wyclef Jean will easily win the race with his financial connections, influence among the Haitian youth and his political influence around the world.

The news of his candidacy has stoked fears in opponents planning to run for the head office in November.

"I think if Wyclef is allowed to run he will have a straight victory," political leader and former presidential candidate Himmler Rebu told Reuters yesterday.

Jean, who maintained his status as a citizen of Haiti, was in the country yesterday, where he was preparing for his upcoming campaign.

The rapper/musician also has political clout in the country.

His uncle, Raymond Alcide Joseph, has been the Haitian ambassador to the United States since 2005 and helped Wyclef’s drive to raise money and relief aid for victims of the massive earthquake.

Elections are slated for November 28th.

Go for it.
from a rapper... to President. BIG!

Haiti stand up.

Even Jay-z can’t beat this with any move he’ll ever makes. LOL

but seriously, most importantly you know he’s doing this to help the country and not monetary gain or even power cause this dude been pushing hard for Haiti since the grammy’s with Haitian flag (lol) and beyond.

He has a heart for his people. Anyone oppose him is pure hater, even the other candidate. If they care for the country they’ll let him go and recognize his influence, power to get the country back into some type of shape after the catastrophe.

If a person like Wyclef is not in that position it’ll be no time soon before Haiti gets rebuild cause other nations don’t care, but with Clef’s relationships etc... they’ll lend their hands faster to help him help the country.

Even if he doesn’t win or some obstacle come about (only reason for him not run really) i applaud the attempt.

I’ll say this though, the goons and Macoutes can try to off him cause they already know it’s a win for him. They don’t play out there.

Politics is not entertainment. It is a more serious business that deals with people's lives. George Bush will tell you what happens in the presidency when you are not prepared(even with a masters degree in economics from Yale and experience as a Governor of a big state) and America is a rich nation. Poor as Haiti is,the problems are a hundred fold.Mere popularity and good intentions are not the only qualifications for leadership.

You know what. He can't fail. I mean, how much worse could things actually get in Haiti? His most important job is to lobby for the country. Make sure the money comes in and make sure it doesnt disappear in peoples pockets. Thats tough enough, but if he succeeds in that, then thats a big step for Haiti. With all due respect, Haiti is a nation that is right now depending on the goodwill of other nations, nothing more nothing less. So a president with 'international allure' and connections can do a lot of good.

From Wyclefs perspective, though... I hope he's prepared for it. I hope he can get a good team around him. He might be a celebrity and a national hero. But theres people out there that expect some kinda kickbacks and wont hesitate to stab him in the back (or worse) when they don't get that. He has to be prepared to work DAY AND NIGHT (that means at least 80 hours a week. Thats what the job requires and thats what he owes to the people. It will be tough, dangerous, and probably, goddamn depressing. So I hope he's prepared.

Lets be real: He'll become president of a sh*thole (once again no disrespect. not talking about the culture or the people). And when he's done, it will definitely still be a sh*thole, but possibly in a better state then it was before.

I commend him for doing this but I hope he knows what he's getting himself into.

cosign huey and riley.. but this aint over until the elections are... but to be honest,, the educated haitian doesnt really trust clef.. of course he will win the vote cuz most of the pl who vote are the most nuneducated and the most helpless ppl.. so any catchy sliogan and/or popularity willl get him the votes...thats a given... and we still dont know who is oppenents are.. but in haiti.. talkin about who u are goin to vote for is taboo... nobody is to be trusted... and u wont say anythin until the person wins out of fear if u were ever against that person that they will eliminate u if they win... evewr since the duvalier days. the walls had ears...but whoever is president... i hope they are for 200% for the populations well being... cuz if they do bring much progress they can end up being president for life.. ever since haiti's independence we've only had 2 presidents... if someone is actually bringin results.. the haitians would vote him for life.. all we need is more jobs and education in every domain... we just want a president with his heart in the right place.. not one who will let the money and corruption get to him... i hope clef is jus strong enough to deal with those obstacles.. cuz of other member of govt see that he isnt on the same page as them.. they can easily manipulate him into gettin murked or thrown out... he hasnt been in haiti much so he may not know how they actually roll... there are some slimey n***as out there.... real dirty politics... even magic or superstitions plays heavy roles in this... he may know this.. but he may not know how to utilize it...

The power of Hip-Hop... If you know anything about the culture, we take nothing and turn it into something. Just like we did with break beats in disco songs and turned them into complete songs. We can anything by any means.
Salute the culture!

This is GREAT for Haiti. I never knew why anyone (the past Presidents) that cared for their people couldn't just do what was right for their country, and not just enrich themselves (and their family) with the countries minimal wealth and donated financial aid from other countries.

It starts with giving a f#@k. I think he's the BEST candidate for the job. PERIOD.

If he builds a strong team around him...this could be very positive. But him right now with like no experience...I don't think he's ready. The humanitarian voice of the people side...yeah he can get it done. Good will embassador etc...but he needs a strong, unselfish, trustworthy team around him...

If that's what it's to be...I pray for his success to get Haiti back onto it's feet
