“Spread love, it’s the Brooklyn way”
(AllHipHop News) Truer words may have never been uttered by the late great Notorious B.I.G. and today (June 5th), it remains true. Spike Lee posted on his personal Instagram account a photo of a Brooklyn street being renamed after his classic 1989 classic film Do The Right Thing.
The entire Do The Right Thing film was shot in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood in Brooklyn. In commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the film, Lee stated on his personal Instagram account that one particular street from that neighborhood will be renamed after the film:
The City Of New York Has Changed Stuyvesant Street Between Lexington And Quincy In The Brooklyn Hood Of BED-STUY DO OR DIE As Do The Right Thing Way.
Less than 8 months ago, Brooklyn Community Board 2 denied LeRoy McCarthy’s campaign to co-name the intersection of Saint James Place and Fulton Street “Christopher Wallace Way” after the Notorious B.I.G. Councilman Robert Cornegy informed the New York Daily News that the street has not been officially renamed and could still be denied”
It’s a bit complicated, because the City Council’s standards for co-naming focus on people and organizations, not works of art. Nevertheless, I fully support this effort and will continue to work in every way I can to see the commemoration happen.
