Artist Creates Amusing Illustrations of Jay Z’s “99 Problems”

In 2004, Jay Z told the world that he had “99 Problems, but a bi**h ain’t one.” The epic signature song was about racial profiling and the inevitable trouble that accompanies street life. The song didn’t truly outline all of the problems that the Jigga Man faces everyday, but one graphic artist has a few amusing ideas.

UK Graphic Artist and Illustrator, Ali Graham has done design work for Estee Lauder and Michael Kors, but since June he has been releasing daily “problems” billed as “the illustrated adventures of a certain rap superstar.”

Released daily on Tumblr, the illustrations are sometimes based on actual things that come out about Jay Z in media, others are based on lyrics, and others still  are just funny for the sake of being funny. Prints of each illustration is available on the Tumblr, for $19.99.

AllHipHop.com talked exclusively to Ali Graham about his hit illustrations and about the cultural impact of one of the greatest rappers of all time.

AllHipHop.com: Where did you get the concept?

Ali Graham: 99 Problems was playing on my mp3 player one day, and it got me thinking – what 99 problems could exist for someone of Jay Z’s status.

AllHipHop.com: Why Jay Z?

Ali Graham: Jay Z is a household name, whether he’s known for his work, or just being married to Beyonce. I liked the idea that “even world famous rappers have problems,” however mundane. He’s also got really vivid lyrical imagery that is fun to play with visually.

AllHipHop.com: Why did you choose to give him mundane problems like, “Brain Freeze,” or reaching the smoke alarm?

Ali Graham: The mundane stuff, as you say is very humanizing. He’s reached such a point of fame and success that people forget he’s prone to suffering the little things in life.

AllHipHop.com: Have you heard from him?

Ali Graham: No word as of yet. If he has seen it, I hope he enjoys.

AllHipHop.com: What has the response been from fans?

Ali Graham: Response has been amazing. I chose the arbitrary date of June 1st to launch, and it was pure luck that just a couple of weeks later MCHG was announced., since then feedback’s been absolutely incredible.

AllHipHop.com: Are the prints selling well?

Ali Graham: The prints are selling exceptionally well … almost too well. I’m trying to stay on top of orders, while juggling other jobs, and creating daily illustrations. Fortunately people are being very patient and supportive.

AllHipHop.com: How do you choose the problem for the day?

Ali Graham: Some problems I have in a list, others are responses to topical stuff happening at the time. I like to stay current, as it gives the project a fresh, unpredictable vibe.

AllHipHop.com: Do you plan to do any other artists?

Ali Graham: There are lots of fun plans for the future, at the moment I can’t get too ahead of myself as I’ve got to finish this current set, and make sure all the prints get sent out successfully. Stay tuned.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Lookie Who Drake May Be Signing!

Drake may be the next great mogul in music. And, no I am not his biggest fan. But I have to say, this dude seems to be able to work and operate in all sections of the game – R&B, hardcore rap, pop rap, Lil Wayne/Jay, Kanye/Diddy, girls, dudes and even the weirdoes like The Weeknd…and then some. So, what’s next? Looks like there i already talk of Drake signing Ma$e to a deal. Man, I was looking at that picture of Diddy, Ma$e and the crew at Drake’s OVO Fest last week….thinking.

This could work out best for Diddy! If Drake signs either or both Cassie and Ma$e, Diddy will get a check. And, not for nothing, both are stars – both Ma$e and Cassie. I think Drake could actually take them over the top. Diddy’s not the same party animal from back in the day.  There’s no comparison to Drake, but Drizzy is doing his thing.

Holy smokes. Aaliyah is reaching Biggie and Pac levels of obsession. Remember the last rumors about who would be paying baby girl in a biopic?

Well, there is a new contender in the rumors. The latest is that none other than Cassie is to play Aaliyah in a biopic. Not sure how this factors into the Solange rumor. Now, a lot of people are crying foul, but Cassie and Aaliyah have a lot of similarities. I personally just don’t think they look a lot alike, even though both are beauties.

I’ve got no hate to Cassie, but I have absolutely no idea how well she acts. Solange seemed like an actress of sorts. Aaliyah was definitely an actress.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Meek Mill Stops Near Brawl Between 50 Cent And Former G-Unit Affiliate

I’m not sure all of what has happened between Trav and 50 Cent. I just know they had some back and forth on Twitter a ways back. But today, a video was posted that shows a near disaster was averted by Mr. Meek Mill. Trav called 50 insecure and a bunch of other stuff about him not looking out for people. Then 50 responded with telling that if he didn’t love Trav’s brother, he would have been cracked his head. Lastly, he told Trav not to ever come around him.

The video picks up there, with Trav coming around 50 Cent on stage at MixshowLiveATL 2013 this weekend. Now, for whatever reason, 50 calls out Meek and then Trav is in tow. It seems like Meek and Trav are cool. Maybe he got a new deal with Dream Chasers Records? Peep it:

Anyone who claims to know how YC The Cynic rhymes is not a true listener of YC’s at all. “The Bronx Bomber” has his own way of getting a point across this is true. However, that particular way morphs, changes and evolves through every project he puts out.

What you heard at the beginning of his career is not what you get from the YC of today. In fact one might argue that the YC of 3 months ago is not the YC of today!  Nor should it be. He will never be pigeon-holed into staying true to anyone else’s ideas of who he is supposed to be as an artist. How completely Hip Hop of him!

Besides an impeccable flow and a wisdom far beyond his young years laced throughout his lyrics, YC The Cynic adds dimensions to his work though non stop metaphorical genius. Nas Helps Displaced Unemployed Man Raise Nearly $40k For His Family

(AllHipHop News) Nas has been known to spit the real on songs, but he’s also changing real lives in Washington D.C.
Stanley Young is a single father of eight kids. He’s also an unemployed contraction worker in D.C.

Nas has helped the man and his family raise funds so that he can move his whole family in a new residence and personal gave $5,000. The rapper spoke on Stanley’s behalf on a site called Crowdtilt.

Stanley Young is an unemployed construction worker and single father. Two weeks ago, a fire destroyed his home. His family is stuck in a hotel, but time is running out. I am also a single father, and we don’t get enough credit in this country. I’m committed to helping Stanley and his eight (yes 8!) kids. Moreover, I believe and hope that we should all, as a community, come together to help our fellow American men and women when they need us in desperate situations like this. See if you can’t find a few dollars to help the Youngs get back on their feet with me. We need to raise enough to extend their stay, and maybe even afford a down payment on a new house or something.

This is real. It is me. I’m putting in $5,000 myself. Never done something like this, but I have faith that our American community can pull together a miracle for this strong family who needs our help right now. If we can get to the $20,000 goal, I’ll put in another $5,000 too.

Exclusive: Gillie Da Kid Talks Rapping to Acting + Will Smith Co-Sign

(AllHipHop News) In the final part of AllHipHop.com’s interview with Gillie Da Kid, the rapper touches on jumping in the studio with Philly legend Will Smith.

Will Smith stopped by so Gillie could show him the trailer for his upcoming film “Brotherly Love” co-starring Ving Rhames.

“For me it was a blessing. I call myself ‘Gil Smith,’ so in 2014 I’m officially changing my s**t to Gil Smith. I sat down with Will and I told him ‘I’m transitioning from the rapping to the acting like you. Can I use the name?’ He told me ‘go ahead’ and run with it.”

It didn’t end there. Big Will jumped in the booth at Bat Cave Studio to lay a verse for the King of Philly.

“It was a beautiful situation. Will came through and showed me some love and got in the booth. I’m truly blessed to know good people, have good friends and great relationships.”

Gillie wouldn’t say if said the unnamed track will come out on his Religion Records album Welcome to Gilladelphia.

Signs The World Is Coming To An End: Student Twerks For School Project!

I am not sure of the entire scope of the situation, but I am sure that there’s very little place for twerking in class. BUT, guess what? A student apparently twerked in class as a part of her class assignment in PHYSICS class. Now, there are some ambiguous parts. First of all, I am not sure that its the actually student, because this chicks a$$ is brolic! And, the white instructor is seen in the back getting his jollys off. So, I’m going to assume he wouldn’t do that if it was one of his students with her a$$ out. But, the RUMOR is that a STUDENT did the actual twerking.

KINGS OF TWERK: THE YING YANG TWINS SPEAK (ON TWERKING, KANYE WEST AND FRENCH MONTANA)!

But, this happened. There is a video of a physics class presentation of a woman twerking to “Who Let The Dogs Out.” But, there is a catch. The chick has a pair of huge tats on her butt of TWO DOGS. So, the dogs are smacking into each other as she claps or twerks. Everybody is getting their rocks off, but not the guy that is commentating in the video below. Peep this out. The actual twerking starts about 1 minute in.

Hip-Hop Rumors: Classic R&B Rumors, How Whitney Saved Bobby From Murderous Madman

This may be common knowledge but I never heard it until very recently. But, back in the day, Bobby and Whitney used to get it in apparently. Bobby was out in the “world” and accrued a debt of about $25k to a coke dealer. Well, the dealer could not get to Bobby, because he was very well guarded. So, the debt was “bought out” by a man named Preacher and he said he would get the money – and then some.

This all happened in about the year 1993, some 20 years ago.

At the time Whitney scored a huge hit in “The Bodyguard” oddly. And she was well compensated on it. But Preacher and his crew “The Preacher” crew tied Bobby up and kidnapped him. He told Whitney they need to play up $400,000 or Bobby was dead. Now, I’ve heard of Preacher and his work. He was not to be messed with. He was a well known killer. The way I remembered him was with the killing of Rich Porter’s little brother. They just killed him AFTER Rich was killed…they couldn’t get any money out of Rich at that point.

Anyway, Clarence “The Black Hand of Death” Heatley aka “Preacher” was a 6-foot-7, 260-pound behemoth and he didn’t play for nothing. I’m assuming Whitney realized this, because she paid up and got her man back. When she did, it was something like this.

They knew they pulled Bobby out of the jaws of death for real. Neither Bobby or Whitney ever confirmed or denied the rumors.

She’s now down with Drake and Noah “40″ Shebib’s OVO Sound. Obviously, this will be a partnership of sorts, but definitely give Cassie hopes of taking it to the next level. Her mixtape RockaByeBaby did well and she’s expected to burst out with a new single thing year and album early next.

Speaking of Diddy and in case you missed it – Diddy’s stalker was arrested AGAIN after he was seen chilling at the mogul’s pool. The man, Quamine Taylor, was taken in by police in East Hampton, Long Island. The neighbors saw a strange man lurking around the house. Previously, he was seen at Diddy’s house drinking liquor and even sleeping in Diddy’s bed. CRAZY!

NEGATIVITY GOT CHRIS BROWN!

Well the female rapper, who’s name I don’t remember, is now saying sorry to Beyonce. Basically this is just another media hit for her. But since the last couple days have been so slow, I’ll report on it.

“I would tell Beyonce the drama is unintentional, the respect is real. If you listen to the song, you’ll understand why I came out with the story. I’m not sorry, it happened, but I’m going to express my story in my songs. I do apologize for how you feel — I love her and respect her. The reason I didn’t go there and pursue something with Jay is because of Beyonce. It’s not intentional to hurt her or embarrass her or put her business out there.”
