(AllHipHop News) Many modern music producers have been very vocal about the lack of proper compensation for their work. That financial frustration led to Sonny Digital suggesting the need for a producer’s union, Southside slamming Interscope Records, and Metro Boomin blasting Atlantic Records’ APG Division.
Atlantic is now facing more accusations of unfair actions. Longtime Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller collaborator Eric “E. Dan” Dan accused the company of not labeling bodies of work as an “album” in order to avoid paying creators.
“The [2016] Khalifa album – I don’t know if they called it a ‘street album.’ They came up with some really clever name that essentially meant, ‘Everyone involved, you’re going to get paid half what you normally do,'” E. Dan told BeatStars. “It’s a thing. I’ve seen it happen more often over the last few years. Anything to save a buck for these labels.”
E. Dan also claimed the same cost-saving categorizing took place with Snow Tha Product’s 2013 free mixtape Good Nights & Bad Mornings 2: The Hangover. The ID Labs head stated, “They called it a mixtape. They didn’t treat it like it was an album which is just their way of not paying me a whole lot.”
The verified J.U.S.T.I.C.E League Twitter account backed up E. Dan’s accusations. A Tuesday night tweet from the production team read, “Been said this, but all labels do it [with] black music. It’s all about the bottom line. What angers me is the black executives that let it happen.”
