(AllHipHop News) More information is creeping out about Dr. Dre’s upcoming “top secret” project with Apple.
Dr. Dre’s longtime partner Jimmy Iovine revealed some of the details about Dre’s new TV show during an appearance at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour on Saturday (January 14) at the Langham Hotel in Pasadena, California.
Iovine was there promoting the upcoming Allen Hughes documentary “The Defiant Ones,” which centers around his longtime relationship with Dr. Dre and their successful businesses over the years, including Death Row Records, Aftermath Records and Beats by Dre, which eventually sold for $3 billion to Apple.
Iovine said the new series Dr. Dre is working on with Apple will be scripted, and will be based on Dr. Dre’s life and career, which also includes discovering artists like N.W.A, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar and others.
“Vital Signs” will be a racy, dark drama with the first season featuring six original episodes, directed by Paul Hunter.
According to Jimmy Iovine, the push into scripted original content for Apple is meant to make the company better suited to take on brands like Amazon, Hulu, Netflix, Spotify and Pandora.
“We’re fighting free,” Iovine during his talk, reports Variety. “With Netflix there is no free. Apple Music is trying to create an entire pop culture experience that’s going to include audio and video. If ‘South Park’ walks into my office, I’m not going to say, ‘You’re not musicians.’ We’re going to do whatever hits pop culture smack on the nose.”
“The Defiant Ones” is slated to be released on HBO this spring, while there is no release date attached to “Vital Signs.”
