Footwear giant Puma has tapped rap pioneers Doug E. Fresh and MC Shan to help promote their new Puma x YO! MTV Raps line of Hip-Hop footwear and apparel named after the hit television show.
Doug E. Fresh and MC Shan are winding down a radio/press tour of Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and New York to promote the collection.
The pair will make a live appearance in Boston tonight (September 7) on WJMN 94.5 and WERS 89.9’s Hip Hop Lounge show.
“We want to make sure people understand what YO! MTV Raps really means,” Doug E. Fresh said of the tour. “It’s bigger than a name and label. Hip Hop is what it is today because of the show.”
The collection features limited edition footwear and apparel created by Doug E. Fresh, MC Shan, Big Daddy Kane and YO! MTV Raps co-hosts Ed Lover and Dr. Dre.
Puma is also producing five YO! MTV Raps Puma Suede colorways ($80), T-Shirts and hoodies, inspired by the rappers, including MC Shan, who was an early champion of the Puma brand on his early Hip-Hop records.
“YO! MTV Raps shed a spotlight on an important time in music history and brought musicians like me, MC Shan and Big Daddy Kane to a larger audience,” Doug E. Fresh continued. “By partnering with Puma on this collection, we are able to capture the show’s essence and continue the legacy the show worked so hard to build.”
The Puma x YO! MTV Raps line will be available at all Puma Concept stores on September 15.
