Wow.
You learn something new every day. Apparently, Drake and his dude 40 used to work for Dr. Dre as writers! Around 2005, a 19-year old Drake was paid about $10,000 to write. He was also housed in a posh neighborhood. The term over there at Aftermath was short and Drake when about his business. This was three years before the homie Drizzy dropped So Far Gone, his seminal album. About that time at Aftermath? Drake said, “It was some of the most strenuous militant s**t I’ve ever done. But no usable songs came out of it. When I think of how he worked us, it’s no wonder he didn’t get anything out of it. It was just writers in a room churning out product all day long.” This quote is apparently from John Seabrook’s book, The Song Machine: Inside The Hit Factory.
